A gang fight at a north-side school Wednesday night left three Sheboygan boys injured and involved at least 30 teens armed with chains, bats and bricks, Sheboygan police said Thursday.

The teens, members of rival Hispanic gangs, clashed shortly before 7 p.m. on a playground at Washington Elementary School, 1238 Geele Ave., said Lt. Tim Eirich. As of Thursday evening, police said nine of the people involved had been arrested.

Each of the seven arrested earlier Thursday has had previous contacts with city police, Anderson said. The gangs involved were the Sureno 13s and the Latin Kings, two of the larger gangs in the city, police said.

Eirich said the fight—which drew about 10 police officers—was unusually large for Sheboygan.

Zempel said about 48 gangs are known to either be in Sheboygan or have been active in the area.
