Republican gubernatorial candidate Jerry Kilgore embarked on a whirlwind tour of downtown Culpeper Wednesday, making quick stops in Frost Café, The Cameleer and Clarke Hardware to chat with voters.

Kilgore also sounded off the broad issue of illegal immigration. He said local police should be given the authority to enforce all laws.

“What part of illegal don’t we understand? We have seen such a tie between illegal immigration and gangs that are committing violent acts,” said Kilgore. “We need to step up to the plate and be realistic and hit this problem head on by giving local enforcement the ability to arrest and detain and call the immigration officials and have them picked up. If they’re committing crimes, they shouldn’t be here.”
