Church Opens Immigration Clinic

A Holland church is launching a free legal clinic to assist low income non-citizens deal with the complexities of U.S. immigration law.

First United Methodist Church will operate the clinic, called Justice for Our Neighbors. The program is a United Methodist Church mission and the clinics in Holland will be the second in Michigan. A Grand Rapids church began offering the clinic in February.

“It’s a free immigration legal services program,” said Mary DeRidder, staff liaison at the Holland First United Methodist Church. “This is for people who cannot afford to go to an immigration lawyer.”

The clinic will operate one day a month. It will help non-citizens deal with issues ranging from visa issues to deportation.
