British Conservatives Bring Record Non-EU Immigration

Gregory Hood, American Renaissance, February 28, 2020

In December, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson showed conservatives (big C and little C) the way to win. He supported spending more on medicine. He announced a tougher immigration policy. He said he’d “get Brexit done.” Patriotic, working-class voters spurned socialist Jeremy Corbyn and delivered a Conservative majority. The Tories even cracked the “Red Wall” — the districts that have voted Labour for decades.

What has happened since? Mr. Johnson’s adviser Andrew Sabisky resigned after a media smear campaign. It was discovered that in 2016, Sabisky said “intelligence is largely inherited” and mused about mandatory contraception for welfare recipients so as to avoid creating a “permanent underclass.”

The former is unquestionably true.

Jared Taylor supported the latter as long ago as 1992, and so did many American state legislators. A former Labour MP, Gary Johns, suggested the same thing in 2014. It’s sensible unless Western nations want to keep subsidizing poverty.

There’s more bad news. Mr. Johnson’s new immigration policy makes it harder for Europeans to enter the United Kingdom but easier for many non-whites. The Prime Minister will cut down on low-skill immigration, but a “points system” that’s “blind to country of origin” will let in educated Indians, Chinese, Africans, and other groups.

Conservatives have been in power since 2010, but last year, people from outside the EU arrived in record numbers. Many were Chinese or Indian students. Some Chinese are a security threat in the United States; UK security services warn Britain faces the same problem.

Conservatives should study Boris Johnson to learn the way to campaign, but not to govern. Boris Johnson’s government is like President Trump’s. There’s tough talk, an infuriated Left, but no real change. This is the worst possible combination. Mr. Sabisky’s resignation shows that the British government will not even listen to novel solutions to social problems, let alone use them.

It’s satisfying when conservatives win elections because leftists become hysterical, but symbolic victories aren’t enough. There’s a time limit. White Britons will be a minority in their own country by 2066. Until conservatives throughout the West address the demographic crisis, they are doing more harm than good by lulling patriots into a false sense of security.
