Anti-Islam Politician Wilders Aims to “Paralyse” Dutch Govt

Anthony Deutsch and Thomas Escritt, Reuters, January 23, 2015

Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders is counting on concern over Paris militant attacks to help him “paralyse” the centre-right coalition government and stake a claim to greater national influence.

Accused by critics of inflaming tensions in a land that has long welcomed workers from Morocco and Turkey, Wilders goes into local elections on March 18 with his Freedom Party commanding about 25 percent support–far more than any other and enough, possibly, to give him a blocking vote in the Upper House.

His message to Dutch electors, couched with warnings of “islamisation” of Europe, was direct.

“Vote, vote today. You can perhaps send the government home,” Wilders said, in an interview with Reuters. “If not, you can paralyse the government. So those are very important elections.”

However, while Wilders may be able to block legislation in the Upper House, he would be hard pressed to find coalition partners to form any national government. At best he might increase his power to press anti-immigrant policies.

Liberal Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s cabinet nearly collapsed in December after losing a vote in the Upper House, where he lacks a majority.

“Most people expect that he (Wilders) will gain some seats, and perhaps even a considerable number of seats,” Henk te Velde, a political historian at Leiden University.

He accused Rutte of failing to jail militant jihadists and said the army should be deployed to protect potential Dutch targets.

“If somebody makes an attack, you are not a perpetrator, Mr. prime minister, but you have blood on your hands, if somebody commits a terrorist act in the Netherlands.”

Wilders wants to block all Muslim immigration and take away the passports of criminal offenders of foreign descent. {snip}

Wilders, on the same al Qaeda blacklist as the slain editor of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, said he would travel to all 12 provinces to meet voters.

“There will be a lot of security, but I will do it anyway, even if it’s just to let the other people, the terrorists, see that they will not be able to stop the democratic process.”

An opinion poll taken after the Paris attacks showed the Freedom Party winning 31 seats in the country’s 150-seat parliament, more than doubling its showing in the 2012 elections and becoming by far the largest party. The governing Liberal-Labour coalition would win just 28 seats.

If there are any more publicized muslim attacks any where in the world and he uses them in his campaign he might stop the wheels of government. The question is: how long can he paralyze government before the king calls for new elections? And would a second election give him more power or turn the public against him?

  • MekongDelta69

As usual, leftist Reuters slants everything the way they want:
“Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders is counting on concern over Paris militant attacks to help him “paralyse” the centre-right coalition government and stake a claim to greater national influence.”

    As opposed to, something like:
Pro-Dutch politician Geert Wilders is trying to save his country from muslims.”

    • Lygeia

Amen to that. The mainstream media (MSM) is so completely morally bankrupt and does not report the real dangers in the world.

    • Yancy Derringer

Yours strays further from the ideal of hard news neutrality than Reuters’ version. “Save”? No thanks. Just the facts, ma’am. I can decide for myself what needs saving.

    • Here is another one:

“At best he might increase his power to press anti-immigrant policies.”

This is so common in the media and the mouths of liberals.

Being anti-immigration (*the process* of transforming a whole nation from one thing into another) is not the same thing as being “anti-immigrant” – which implies a hatred of individuals you may never have even met, and thus implies bigotry against individuals.

It is a sneaky little trick when they play on these semantic nuances. Language is very important – and as you say, it could quite easily be turned around to positives or at the least, neutrality, if they wanted to do so.

  • SentryattheGate

I wonder what that Muslim mayor of Rotterdam thinks of Wilders? I cheered when I read that Wilders’ platform is to stop all Muslim immigration!

    • Yancy Derringer

      Me too.

“Moroccan-born mayor of Rotterdam tells fellow Muslims who do not appreciate the ‘freedoms’ of living in the West to ‘pack your bags and f*** off’ on live TV.” – Daily Mail UK, under that headline.

      • Americaandthewestshouldbewhite

He may say that, but does he really mean it?

        • Sick of it

He might, being of Berber descent. Imagine how the Copts feel about muslims in Egypt.

  • Chip Carver

The problem Wilders has is the electronic voting machines used in the Netherlands – that will no doubt have the Usual Suspects applying financial pressure or other pressures on those overseeing their operation and “programming”. Look what’s happened in the US if you don’t think this is serious.

    • Lygeia

This is why I always vote a paper ballot. I never use the electronic voting machines.

      • IstvanIN

How do you know the paper ballet is thrown away?

  • Luca

Geert Wilders. Now, this is a man.

  • Samuel_Morton

More and more people are beginning to realize that when a news source says ‘anti-Islam’, they actually mean ‘pro-Europe’.

  • Preparation HBomb

Some think this man is a Nazi. I don’t. I think he is a Dutch patriot, concerned for his country. This is what Europe and America should emulate. I unhappily believe it’ll take another horrific hit right here in the USA to get the Muslim terrorist threat into the heads and hearts of Americans. Everybody watch out for the Academy Awards in that regard. I hope I’m wrong, but…. Just a hunch, folks. The thing is, I’ve been right before.

    • “Nazi”

Anyone who would call Geert Wilders a Nazi is a real mental piece of work. If you read AR for long enough, or read some of our other favorite websites, you’ll find out that some of us think that Wilders isn’t strong enough, that he dwells too much on Muslims and not on any other problematic non-white groups, and panders to Jews and Israel even though Dutch Jews want absolutely nothing to do with him. Criticism which I myself sorta agree but sorta disagree with.

      • Sick of it

The pro-gay thing actually bothers me more, but yeah, problems all around.

        • Remember though, it’s The Netherlands, where almost anything goes.

          • Martel

The most popular politician in our country has publicly stated he wants an entire ethnic group to move back to their own country. who you got in the USA?

          • Yancy Derringer

Rub it in, why don’t ya?

          • Sick of it

            Jeff Sessions

          • jayvbellis

Well, we got Rand Paul – running for President of the United States and meeting and posing with Al Sharpton to champion the cause of black mobs protesting and looting for freedom in Ferguson MO.

          • But haven’t you noticed that Rand Paul is still slumming down there in the high single digits at best in most polls? And while we weren’t looking, he went and developed himself a reputation of flip flopping worse that John Kerry.

          • Rustler

They got Ted Cruz, who wants amnesty for illegal aliens and an increase in “guest workers.” He’e become the new favorite of the moronservatives.

Be thankful that American style conservatism is not a factor in your country.

          • Seniorsquadldr

Niemand! en zijn tweeling broer, Niemand. Nobody and his twin brother nobody.

        • Preparation HBomb

I am concerned about groups who hate our country and are in a position to do us major damage. Islamists fit that bill front and center. Ghetto-ites and illegal aliens also fit that bill. I don’t care about gays and others who are not aggressive, not armed, and have no agenda with the primary motive of killing all who are not like them. I’m old enough to know it’s smart to pick my battles carefully, and so I choose Islam and the ghetto blacks, along with illegal immigrants, as my opponents.

          • Sick of it

That’s all fine and good unless you have kids. Homosexuals are not born that way…they recruit.

          • saxonsun

I’m a gay white female. Heterosexuals have tried to recruit me since I was born. All gays suffer that crap from “straights.” It didn’t work, thank the Lord. I’m still normal–a lesbian. But your post was good for a laugh.

          • Sick of it

            “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

            And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” Romans 1:18-32

            Good for you, Saxonsun!

          • Tarczan

I wished you’d have nine kids, but regardless if you are for whites I’m ok with it.

          • BlueSonicStreak

            >> Heterosexuals have tried to recruit me since I was born.

            [MIC DROP]

There it is. The hole in the entire “recruitment” argument:

If it were in any way possible to “recruit” others to your sexual orientation via indoctrination, exposure, bribery or threats, homosexuals wouldn’t exist.

          • Preparation HBomb

And where did you get that information? That’s insane. No gay person that I know – and since I’m from LA I know a lot of gay persons – “recruit.” That is not possible. No one can just “turn gay” unless they are already leaning that way innately. And YES gay folks are in fact born that way, just as you were (presumably) born hetero. I have 4 wonderful grandsons, and I am not worried one iota about any one of them. In fact, if you look at crime statistics, they are in much greater danger of attack by a heterosexual male just checking out foreign territory….Really, people, use some common sense here; if you’re just on this site to hate, you’re boring.

          • Tarczan

            Children can be recruited.

      • NoMosqueHere

Wilders doesn’t “pander” to Israel. He empathizes with Israel’s predicament, i.e., being surrounded by 100s of millions of muslim maniacs who want all jews dead. He wants Israel to win, as do I.

        • meanqueen

Me too. I can’t understand the thinking of anyone who would stand against Israel and for the Muslims.

          • Rustler

Muslims didn’t write the 1965 immigration act. Muslims have no power or influence in America.

          • UncleSham

Maybe if we drilled for our own oil that would be true, but since much of our economy is still dependent on oil from the Middle East, Muslims do have a significant influence in America.

          • If America was the technologically advanced country it used to be before diversity became the ruling all-important goal we wouldn’t need Middle East oil. There are long term better alternatives to oil but there is really no impetuous to develop them.

          • UncleSham

There are plenty of scientists and engineers looking for alternative energy sources, but thus far no one has come up with any thing as cost-effective as oil. We have more than enough oil reserves in our own country to be energy independent immediately, but the environmentalists won’t let us drill for it. I’m sure that we will find a replacement for oil eventually, but the technology is not quite there yet. Who ever develops that replacement first will become very rich, so the motivation is there.

          • Spikeygrrl

            * IMPETUS.
“I had no impetus to call her impetuous.” 🙂

          • Sick of it

We can produce fuel equivalent to gasoline from cellulose. Who created the oil industry in America? That will lead you onto the path to the truth.

          • UncleSham

The truth is that the process of converting crude oil to gasoline is much more efficient than making a gasoline-like product out of plant matter.

          • meanqueen

Oh, no, not at all! It’s not like they are flying airplanes into our skyscrapers and attempting attacks on our White House and our Pentagon. It’s not like they bomb our marathons, or like they murder thousands and thousands of our citizens. It’s not like they have terror cells and terrorist training camps embedded all over our country. It’s not like their monopoly on oil has us by the balls. It’s not like our president is, you know, a MUSLIM. It’s not like we don’t have dozens of Muslims in critical positions in our government and our CIA. Give up the Jew hatred and face the real problem.

        • Preparation HBomb

I agree!!!! I support Israel 110%!!! Netanyahu is the only leader out there who stands up to the Islamic maniacs without backing down one inch. Israel kicked Islamic ass in 6 days back in 1967, and they will do it again if pushed. Note that Saudi Arabia and Egypt and Jordan are now scared sh*tless with the change in power in Yemen, which is Iran-backed. They know Iran will soon have the bomb, and if they do, Yemen will — and all that will force the Saudis and Jordanians to get their own bombs. It will be a solid sheet of glass in all the Muslim countries if that happens, and that would include Israel. I don’t want that to happen. BTW, our guys have quietly been building up our military forces in areas close to Yemen over the last few months, knowing what was going to happen there — for the purpose of rescuing Americans stranded in Yemen, and doubtless for other goals…

        • OyVey00

Israel is the sole reason we even have Muslim terror attacks in the West. They wouldn’t have a grudge against us if we weren’t bombing their countries to help Israel.

And don’t forget it’s American Jews who have worked tirelessly to convince the whole world that multiculturalism is a good thing.

      • Preparation HBomb

I have seen Wilders referred to in the media as a Nazi, a long time back. Now they ignore him completely. I am on his side. And let us not forget, the Dutch were under Nazi rule for several years during WWII. They know better than let that back in. More power to Wilders!!!

    • jayvbellis

Neo Cons, Christian Zionists and the cursed MSM will just spin another brutal Muslim terrorist attack in the USA in to something foreign like the US military attacking Iran… Maybe starting a war with Russia over Ukraine…. Something stupid, counter productive.

      • Sick of it

They are trying to provoke folks with a Russian spy ring story right now. As if other nations do not have spies in our country.

  • dd121

Do you suppose that multiculturalism isn’t working out as well as they’d hoped?

    • newscomments70

Just let millions more pour in, everything will fix itself.

Accused by critics of inflaming tensions in a land that has long welcomed workers from Morocco and Turkey …

OK maybe so, but South Moluccan extremist immigrants from their former colony of Indonesia (the Dutch East Indies) were lobbing bombs way back in the 70s. There are none so blind as those who will not see.

Remember the train? Moluccans. Most Indonesians are Moslimes.

They’re the strongest party, but are still in opposition since all other parties are banding together to keep them out. Behold, goyim. This is democracy. The will of the people has been heard.

    • newscomments70

It’s the same in Sweden. The “conservatives” in the Riksdag are allying themselves with the liberal parties to “save immigration”.

  • Brady

An otherwise typical European liberal who understands Islam for what it is. In this age, though, that in itself is enough to make him worthy of support.
