NAACP Decries VA Group’s Plan to Fly Huge Confederate Flag near I-95

Cheryl Chumley, Washington Times, August 7, 2013

The NAACP has come forward in staunch opposition and anger about a heritage group’s plans to fly a 10-by-15-foot Confederate flag on a 50-foot pole south of Richmond, Va.—large enough to be seen from the corridor’s main highway, Interstate 95.

The Virginia Flaggers say it’s to show respect for those on the South’s side who fought and died during the Civil War, The Associated Press reported. And the Richmond area was chosen for a historical reason: The city served as the Confederate capital during the war.

The group estimates it will fly on Sept. 28, give or take a few days, and only be visible from I-95 northbound lanes, AP Press reported.

But the NAACP sees differently. Virginia chapter executive director King Salim Khalfani told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the flag would show Richmond as a “backwater, trailer park, hick town.”

You know what would really irritate King Salim Khalfani? Have a bunch of white people not even get upset at the backwater, trailer park, hick town references.
Those places, after all are still hundreds of years more advanced than what the blacks can do on their own.

    • So CAL Snowman

Exactly, a trailer park would actually be a massive upgrade from what they are capable of producing on their own!

      • Jefferson

Trailer parks look like Martha’s Vineyard compared to the slums that you see in countries like Nigeria and South Africa.

        • Buck Roeser

          Or Detroit or Chicago.

          • 1proactive2

I was going to write that. So accurate.

    • Sick of it

Considering his name, I’m sure he’d be more bothered by pig’s blood on his lawn.

    • CoweringCoward

Manufactured housing, with it’s running water, electricity, gas, telephone, internet, regular trash pickup and mail service is many THOUSANDS of years more advanced than what this “kings” folks have EVER DONE. Ooooga Boooga, shame on you for being white!

      • me

OOOGA BOOGA? LOL! More like, “Them Crackas think dey have rights and sheet! Mutha— gonna learn who own dis place. Whitey gonna get a cap pop in his lily ass.” I wish that they’d have stuck to OOOGA BOOGA-in Africa.

  • Puggg

Meanwhile, much of Richmond, Virginia is a ghetto.

    • BonusGift

Bingo; and even so he would see no irony in his comment. As city after city turns into Detroit (from “Paris of the West” to “Mogadishu of the West”), Birmingham, Philadelphia, Chicago, Richmond, etc. etcetera, we have to listen to the likes of this less than magic kneegrow spew out his judgment/bile on whether YT is allowed to fly the stars and bars. Is it just me or does this all get just a wee bit tiring?

      • me

It’s called ‘Bantu fatigue’. Watch two of Mr. Jared Taylor’s videos and call us in the morning.

  • So CAL Snowman

“But the NAACP sees differently. Virginia chapter executive director King Salim Khalfani told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the flag would show Richmond as a “backwater, trailer park, hick town.”’

I would be interested to see what King Salim Khalfani’s homeland looks like. This is beyond hilarious, black people claiming that White people will make Richmond look bad!

    • sbuffalonative

I literally did a double take when I read the name King Salim Khalfani. I thought two different articles (one on Africa) had gotten entangled.

      • TheAntidote

Insight into the mind of a negro: King = Thinks incredibly highly of himself but perhaps with a toss towards modesty rejects Emperor or Divine as first name. Salim = claims direct connection to the glories of Islamic civilization. Khalfani = a surname pulled completely out of thin air, yet ending in a vowel so as to suggest the realm of continental sophistication: Armani, Mizrahi, Gucci.

The mind of a child; a mind which apprehends the delusion that by renaming a thing one can completely transform it.

    • White Mom in WDC

Right on. I’ll take living in a trailer any day over living in whatever dirt mound this dude is from.

    • A_Companion_Unobtrusive

      A little background:

Before he changed his name in 1991 to King Salim Khalfani, a young Edward Duane Hudson, who dreamed of becoming an entertainer, grew up in Cleveland with the nickname “Hollywood.” (Style Weekly, Richmond VA)

A legend in his own mind, eh?

  • http://www.paradisegone.com/ r j p

King Salim Khalfani told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the flag would show Richmond as a “backwater, trailer park, hick town.”

And what does gang tagged everything in any place where black people live or can travel to say about a place?

And I take offense to “hick town”, just as they would take offense to me calling some place “n—-r city”.

What they ought to do is fly the Bonnie Blue. But I guess not enough people would get it.

    • Romulus

      I would. I remember.

  • jane johnson

It’s a redneck thing; I would never expect someone named…THAT…to understand. I refuse to even dignify that nation of islam alias by typing it.

    • baldowl

I remember seeing the “It’s a black thing. You wouldn’t understand” t-shirts when I was in college a while back.

I’ve come up with a nice counter: “It’s a white thing. It’s innately impossible for you to understand.”

      • TheAntidote

        “White men can’t jump”—-”Black men can’t think”

        • Wethepeople

          We can’t jump, invented ladders.

Blacks can’t think, still waiting for their alternative..

  • HJ11

Good for the Flaggers. I was expecting to see one of them say some mewling crap about “we’re not racist,” but I didn’t see it in the article. Good.

    • Conrad

I still say we need a new flag to speak to the time we are in. The Confederacy is over. Hitler is past. We need a flag that says white loyalty over all else.

      • Romulus

The white tree of Yggdrasil is one option, much like the one on Aragorn’s chest in LOTR. Understand this, however! ANY symbol we choose to represent our solidarity will be torn asunder in the court of liberal opinion. So eff ‘em, I say!

        • Wethepeople

Yggdrasil is a good choice. Libs, Marxists and the diverse swarm have been trying to chop our life tree down for a long time, it’s about time we showed our appreciation for her.

      • http://countenance.wordpress.com/ Question Diversity

The Confederate Battle Flag is the ideal flag for Dixierons (white Southerners).

        • Sick of it

Or just call us the Southron people. It’s an old moniker.

      • Spartacus

The Celtic Cross would be a good choice, even if you’re not a christian :

        • Romulus

These are all good choices. The symbol of the solar cross that central Europe used to use would never be allowed. One that could unify the people is what’s important. The power of some symbols cannot easily be discarded.

        • http://www.amren.com/ Michael Christopher Scott

Shouldn’t that be red and not black?

          • Spartacus

Well, the Celtic Cross has many variations, but this is the one most commonly used .

    • HJ11

Part of this thread has now changed into one about one type of flag or symbol we aware Whites should have.

That wasn’t the point of my comment. I have no particular feeling for the Confederate flag one way or another, but I see it as a symbol that does have some meaning for some Whites and thus I support these Whites and their absolute right to use if they wish. I’m fed up with Whites having our rights, our culture and our history erased one small step at a time.

No more erasure of White rights, White culture, White history, White people!

  • http://countenance.wordpress.com/ Question Diversity

NAACP issues a press release opposing Confederate Flags along an interstate highway.

That and $7 will get you a latte at Starbucks today on 2nd Amendment appreciation day.

    • me

I oppose Black ‘History’ month and Black invention myths. I also oppose Black crime, Black racism, Black rap ‘music’, and lots of other Black things. I will not get a chance to oppose these things in a press release without getting Zimmermaned. I am not free, except to think, say, and do as I’m told.

  • Spartacus

Why the hell do people give this much attention to the jews’ dogs from the NAACP anyway ?

    • baldowl

      Conditioning.

      • Romulus

Operant conditioning! Palov’s dog. Pavlov, of course being jewish.

      • sbuffalonative

I constantly see Spartacus’ comments being deleted. Do you know why? While I don’t want you to repeat them, can you give me a general sense of what comments are being deleted and why?

  • APaige

I am Midwest by birth, some might say Northerner, or ‘Yankee’. I have not felt any reverence nor distain for the Confederate flag. I had relatives fight for the Union. No offense, it is someone else’s history to me-a real history, a proud history- just not mine. But until they take down the ‘pan-African’ flag flying over Malcolm X college in Chicago, King Salim Khalfani needs to shut-up. To my ‘Southern Brethren’…fly your flag with pride. The honor, strength and tenacity the Confederacy put forth in fighting the Union is something everyone should respect and admire.

    • Conrad

If you are loyal to your race you are no longer a Yankee or a Confederate.

      • Romulus

Thank you for that. I see ALL race loyalists as brothers and sisters. Im honest with myself. I am as pale as a medium brown haired fella can get. I know what I am. I don’t pretend to be Germanic (like the Jews), Celtic, or Scandinavian. I will defend their blood born right to be one though.

      • http://countenance.wordpress.com/ Question Diversity

However, people are far more motivated by ethnonationalism than racial nationalism.

      • DerekaGrandon

That’s right. Love your kith and kin.

    • http://www.amren.com/ Michael Christopher Scott

I also have a Welsh flag at home, but we flew the Stars & Bars on July Fourth. Our HOA rules say that flags on display must be “American” flags.

Direct ancestors fought on each side in that “Unpleasantness” as their state ancestry dictated. While I believe the States’ Rights position fundamentally correct, the bombardment of Fort Sumter was a hideous political blunder.

      • Romulus

Too bad some amreners didn’t make it out to Gettysburg this year. The sense of community was so strong , it brought a lump to my throat. I felt lifted up. I saw two gentleman cross the flags in honor of our departed. Moving is an accurate description.

    • Sick of it

Your ancestors were forced into the war at gunpoint. No hard feelings.

I should have added “to carry on the fight.” It’s been one of those days. Someone needs to stand up for the confederate flag.

I think I will avoid Richmond like the plague.

Richmond, The Paris of the Confederacy, or does that epithet belong to Atlanta or Birmingham?

“backwater, trailer park, hick town.” flag.
    May the Detroit city flag.

  • Romulus

King salami can go get bent! That is the best news I’ve heard all week. I cried aloud when I read the heading. If not Southern heritage, who in the worlds flag should they fly?! Mexican? Foreign. The only other thing that would we acceptable would be OLD GLORY and the STARS AND BARS side by side as a symbol of unity of the tragic end of half a million white boys lives.

  • dave

who cares what the NAACP says, they fly the african flag. this organization is the most radical and racist group in america. fly as many stars and bars you want. if they dont like it too bad. the confererate flag is part of american history and southern culture. many many whites died under that flag. you dont like it dont let the door hit you in the butt.

  • IKantunderstand

First of all, King, really King? You are aware that the word “king” is not a word in an African language, you know that, right? You know that there was no word for king in Africa? Right? Africans didn’t even know better to call their leaders “kings”, you got that from Whites, right? Yo King, you know that Blacks never were smart enough to develop a written language, right, you know that King? And yet, really King, you are going to characterize the citizens of Richmond VA. as “backwater”, REALLY, REALLY? Your ancestors not only did not ever develop a written language, but your current relatives back in Africa would be delighted to live in a trailer. Seriously. Seriously, you have the nerve to call anyone White in the United(for now) States of America as living in a “backwater”? As opposed to where you would be living if your ancestors hadn’t been luckily picked to be a slave in America? That’s right, you should be counting your lucky stars that your ancestors ended up as slaves in America. Every single Black in America should thank their lucky stars that their ancestors were brought to America as slaves. And every single White American should curse the days that these Black savages were brought to our shores. Frankly, slavery has been nothing but a boon for those Africans lucky enough to be rounded up for slavery by Arabs and Red Sea Pedestrians and delivered to the shores of America. Every single solitary Black in the United(for now) States of America, should get down on their knees and pray thanks to God, they were delivered from the hell hole that is Africa. But are the African Americans thankful? NO. Gee, do you see Kanye, or J Z , or Oprah, moving to Africa? Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Farrakhan, or Obama’s pastor Wright moving to Africa? Do you see Maya Angelou, or Samuel L. Jackson, or Spike Lee moving to Africa? And yet, these ingrates do nothing but castigate us, for what? Lifting them and their ancestors from the dank, disgusting filth of their homeland, Africa. We saved these people, from ignorance, starvation, and early death. WE SAVED THEM. Now, we are vilified for everything we did on their behalf. Everything we continue to do on their behalf. Holy cripes. Enough, is ENOUGH. . Big deal, Whites were used as slaves, everybody has been used as slaves. What makes the Blacks in the United (for now) States of America so special that they will always be treated with kid gloves? What ever on Earth did White people do, that we are the only ones cursed with the Black plague?l Again. This Black plague has the ability to wipe us out, completely. Mind you, after we are gone, no one will remember:” Ashes, ashes, we all fall down”.

  • Hunter Morrow

Is there anything that would make a black city look like a “backwards, savage, Section 8 ghetto nig town?

    • IstvanIN

      I’ll take “Blacks” for $100.00.

      • George

$100,000? Most of them wouldn’t retail for a tenth of that sum.
Richmond has a median per capita income of $26,034. The median per capita wage income nationwide in 2011 was $26,965.
Seems like the city is pretty darned close to average when it comes to income. Blacks, incidentally, compose 52.3% of the city’s residents as of 2011.
So, odds are good they won’t need to wave placards depicting Detroit.
Richmond will *be* Detroit soon enough.

        • IstvanIN

I wrote 100 dollars and zero cents, not $100,000. You missed the game show reference entirely, I was answering Mr. Morrow’s question.

What is ‘Bantu’ character, Mr. Trebeck. They should have a special Jeopardy for ‘Black History’ month, featuring the categories:

King Salim Khalfani? What’s amazing is that these people expect to be taken seriously with names like that.

“…show Richmond as a “backwater, trailer park, hick town.”

As opposed to a vibrant, multicultural paradise I suppose.

  • Howard W. Campbell

Why not print 30 * 40 foot pictures from around (Detroit, Newark, Baltimore, Gary, etc) and fly those as flags along I-95. Then this group can post those along a 2 mile section of 95 as a part of Undertow Economic Success Week.

While printing and flying these pictures would bring out the “Chorus of Execration”, this is a variation of something I saw on TV once. The (Detroit) Pistons were on the road and on the in house jumbo-tron, the operator started posting pictures of derelict buildings, burnt out cars, and so on to whoop up the crowd. It wasn’t so much a whoop session as the members of the audience started laughing at the Pistons players. In very short order, the NBA commissioner threatened the owner of that team and this stunt was never repeated.

  • IstvanIN

This is why countries like Germany and Japan don’t allow you to name your child just anything and countries like Britain don’t allow you to name your child with titles. Unless King Salami is King of the Congo, of course, and a visiting president of the NAACP.

Any flag that upsets a black man named King Salim Khalfani can’t be all bad. I’m a Yankee. When I see the monster that the federal government has become I get more and more sympathetic to the rebel cause. Who wouldn’t want to secede from Washington, D.C.? The main thing I want the federal government to do is slash immigration and control the borders. That’s the one thing it refuses to do.

  • Tacitus1

“backwater, trailer park, hick town.” Oh MY ! What a brilliant intellectual eloquent expression of the English language. My big question would be did this modern day Shakespeare study at Oxford or Cambridge ?
On the other hand, I think the great cause of this cultural misunderstanding the fact that many today live in ahistorical mindset. Those of us who get called “neo-confederates” in fact enjoy a vast array of historical interest. We are fascinated by the historical roots to the Troy legend, Julius Caesar, the crusades, two world wars, and yes the American “Civil War”. Of America’s wars, we seek to put those events into a historical perspective with a sense of objectivity, while the best the NAACP can do is call us names.

  • NeanderthalDNA

“But the NAACP sees differently. Virginia chapter executive director King Salim Khalfani told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the flag would show Richmond as a “backwater, trailer park, hick town.”

So…why does that make me want to take the flag down?

Blacks, besides being the kings of crime, misery, and violence across the country, sure are a sensitive lot, aren’t they? They act like children slighted by a playground friend. Too bad they aren’t as sensitive when their brethren are destroying cities and killing each other. Just a thought.

One of the ways they’re trying to help that goal along is to slowly erase any and all aspects of Whiteness, White identity, White values, White culture, White ethics, White subcultures and White cliques and White interest groups. This is why the don’t want the flag to fly.

When I take the train into Los Angeles, i have to look at Mexican flags flying in yards that we pass by. I find that extremely offensive. King Salim or whatever should worry about that even more. Blacks in Mexico are treated like dirt.

  • TheCogitator

Yeah, but the Bonnie Blue is a darker blue, a prettier blue, and is the symbol I use here. Since blacks are so dumb, and indeed most whites have no knowledge of the Bonnie Blue, it is the stealth flag. Flying it thumbs a nose at them and most are too uninformed to know.

  • Fr. John+

” “backwater, trailer park, hick town.” Oh, you mean like Detroit?
