The two teens involved in the shooting are Isaiah Pretlow, 19, and Tafahree Maynard, 18. Police believe Tafahree fired the shot that killed officer Antwan Toney, who had been on the force for almost three years.

Gwinnett County Police Department Sgt. Jake Smith said the suspect’s car fled the scene after the shooting, though later crashed. The suspects fled on foot.

Police told media that Isaiah and Tafahree were together when Officer Toney was called to investigate a “suspicious vehicle” Saturday afternoon near Shiloh Middle School outside of Atlanta.

Officer Toney was shot while approaching the car, officials said.

Isaiah was arrested and taken into custody. He has been charged with aggravated assault, according to Ayers. Tafahree was killed after a state-wide manhunt ended with him being shot and killed by police last night.

Ayers said initial reports indicated there might be as many as four suspects involved, however, police narrowed down the number to two in Toney’s death.

But here’s the strange part of the case. Members of both Isaiah and Tafahree’s family took to social media last night claiming that the shooting was “self defense.” The family members claim that he teen boys were “racially profiled” and were “protecting themselves.”

There has never been a successful case of self defense against an officer by a Black person in America.

Officer Toney {snip} is also Black.
