Mandatory Race Talks Roil Elite New York City School

Sophia Hollander, Wall Street Journal, March 13, 2015

A new program to weave conversations about race into the school day has polarized parents at the elite Ethical Culture Fieldston School.

The private school requires students in third through fifth grades to separate themselves into groups based on race–multiracial and general groups are also options–and engage in five facilitated 45-minute conversations throughout the semester.

Parents say the school is forcing children to make choices about their racial identity before they may be ready. They accuse the school of rolling out the program without adequate consultation or qualified staff.

School trustees emailed parents in February urging them to “offer our educators your trust.” An online petition had more than 200 signatures by Friday evening. There are 724 students in the lower grades.

“The world is not doing a very good job at teaching the issues of racial differences and commonality of human experience,” said head of school Damian Fernandez. “We at our school believe that we can do it better.”

Parent Sunny Hostin said she is Puerto Rican, Jewish and black while her husband is half-European and half-Haitian. Her biggest concern is the program’s mandatory nature.

“I think we have to question when is it appropriate to racially identify, the fluidity of racial identity and the role of schools in that,” said Ms. Hostin, who has an 8-year old daughter in the program.

She questioned certain activities, as when the teachers sang the hit song “All About That Bass” rewritten as “All about that Race.”

“I just thought, ‘What?’ ” she said.

Mandatory conversations during the day are a break from the traditional model at private schools, where so-called affinity groups are generally voluntary and held after school.

“We felt this was important enough reach everybody,” said George Burns, principal of the Fieldston lower school. “Nobody has ever asked why is your math program mandatory, why is the ballroom dancing program for fifth grade mandatory? They’re all really important parts of our program.”

Okay children, repeat today’s lesson after me: “All Whites are bad and all others are good.”

Okay time for a test to see if the lesson you’ve just learned has become entrenched in your young impressionable minds. Whoever gets it right gets a cookie, whoever gets it wrong must write the lesson on the blackboard 200 times until it sinks in.

    • TomIron361

It doesn’t matter. You can never brainwash people. Brainwashing must be continuous (nonstop – forever) to have any real effect beyond superficial. It was that way with the nazis and the commies and will be that way with these children as well.

      • Tylenol Jones

        I hope you’re right.

        • propagandaoftruth

That’s a great name. I think people should consider using symbols as names, like…

“Ampersand” sounds pretty and kind of sexy, so you could name your girl-kid “Ampersand” and spell it like this “&”. Then make the middle name “Asterix” and spell it thusly, “*”. The possibilities are ridiculous.

Does Tylonol gibs you $ fo dat?

Sincerely, your pasty brutha in arms,

#_ (That’s my new name, “Pound Underscore”). Keepin’ it reel!

          • Tylenol Jones

Glad you asked fam, those pasty white demons at over at Johnson & Johnson bribed Judge Goldowitz who was presiding over to dismiss the case my crackhead mother brought up against the evil corporation even after her legal team led by esteemed The Reverend and scholar Al Sharpton proved that she had been brainwashed by the white cis-gendered patriarchal heteronormative racist capitalist oppressive imperialist system (of which Johnson & Johnson is a part of) to turn tricks for crack hits and name my numerous brothas and sistas after different over the counter painkillers. It’s comforting to know that my white nigga #_ is down to hit a lick with ya boi when he run up on those fuccbois at they headquarters to get what his nahmeen?

    • LexiconD1

“Lessons” like these are good, so you can have the ‘talk’ with your child(ren) at home. Explaining all the reasons why what the teacher has ‘taught’ them is complete nonsense.

Then again, I was the parent who taught my son that all the Spongebob Squarepants characters existed as a life form in real life, and were not made up. We even Googled pictures. He was so excited, he told all his friends about it.

  • John Smith

Looks like even more affluent minorities don’t even understand why they’re pushing this propaganda on students.

  • Samuel_Morton

“Parent Sunny Hostin said she is Puerto Rican, Jewish and black while her husband is half-European and half-Haitian.”

This mishmash of genetic ancestry is like pornography to the mind of a cultural Marxist. Their eight-year old daughter is probably being groomed for the 2048 presidential election by an elite cabal of globalists.

    • Kenner

Sunny Hostin is a vile, rabidly anti-white commentator on CNN.

    • ElComadreja

She’s black and so is her husband, period.

  • superlloyd

“The world is not doing a very good job at teaching the issues of racial differences and commonality of human experience,”

If this idiot were a race realist and taught the unassailable, scientifically verified racial differences that there self evidently are then he would be doing a valuable service. Instead, this will inevitably lead to a blame YT free for all with white students being shamed into confessing their white privilege and guilt.

I thought George Burns was a dead comedian. It sound like his doppelgänger still exists. What a joke.

    • TruthBeTold

Here at AmRen we talk about racial differences all the time.

  • TruthBeTold

engage in five facilitated 45-minute conversations

    Gotta love facilitators.

  • JackKrak

Ok, but how are you going to accommodate my Polish-Vietnamese-Indo-Cuban-Inuit-Pygmy-Aztec child on Islamic holidays and guarantee his vegan meal during Ramadan?

    • Hammerheart

Either you or your child straps on the suicide vest and then takes a stroll down to Old Town!

  • $43,265.

    • George Lortz

Is that the yearly tuition at that “school”? If so, they’re being ripped off; but they deserve it.

  • Cindy

So strange this article mentions Sunny Hostin.
She’s a commentator on CNN and she absolutely loathes whites.

She was on CNN during the Ferguson riots and her take on what was happening was,
“What you see here (blacks looting) is the frustration people feel when they have to constantly deal with racism.”

This black woman is an attorney, columnist, and social commentator on CNN and Headline News. She’s wealthy enough to send her kid to an elite NYC private school.

Yet claims racism is rampant. Constantly. All her “social comments” are against whitey.
Sunny Hostin used affirmative action to get even with whites.
She is the end product when you give blacks a “chance.”

    • Sunny used to be with Fox. She would go head to toe with Bill O’Reilly in short segments. It was boring. Bill O isn’t someone I like anymore, but he mopped the floor with her in those mini-debates.

      • Charles Martel

He only mopped the floor with her with logic and reason that blacks watching couldn’t understand. So any black watching would consider her the winner.

    • Light from the East

She’s good at justifying crime with group frustration, isn’t she? Not bad from a product of affirmative action.

    • ElComadreja

It’s like wondering why you got bit by a snake that you let into your house.

  • Deacon Blue

And here I am complaining about how public schools focus on teaching how to facilitate
White Genocide…errr…”Diversity” while heck!!! I could be paying >$80K/year to send both my children to a swank private school like this one here. I guess I should not
complain about the forever rising property taxes I am held hostage to pay for “public
schooling” after all. There. I feel so much better. It’s amazing to me that a bunch
of entrepreneurial science gurus have not banded together to start a K-12 educational
program with a hard bend towards STEM subjects, perhaps some language and
geography/history studies (none with any “African-American, Contemporary Feminist,
or Lesbianourwayhomo” prefixes though) where student rank and grading is strictly
a meritocracy based on fixed point testing. Imagine if you will a school where the
children go to learn about useful stuff like…Math (and not “Maff”), Physics, Chemistry,
Biology, Computer Science, Logic, Western Civilization, Classic Humanities, etc.?!?
To remain in the school a student would need to maintain a raw “B” (3.0 on a 4.0 scale)
average each semester. No “Black/Mestizo Bonus” no “Scale for Inner City Living”
and no Mulligans for “Economically Disadvantaged Life Circumstances.” You either
have it or you do not. I suspect that by the time the children were going on age
7 or 8 that most of the students would be Caucasian and Higher Asiatic. Hmmnnnn!

    • bv

Home school the kids or organize it with a group, that’s the answer! Well do it as long as it’s still legal.

  • The New Yorkers sending their kids to the school are undoubtedly all libtards, but even some of these brain-dead, anti-white morons are questioning this nonsense. Of course the reason they’re question it is that it involves SEGREGATION. Damn, old George Wallace has got to me loving it from the grave: “Segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever” or something like that.

From the school’s website – State of the Schools address April 2014

One of our strengths as an institution is our diversity. We know that diversity in all its manifestations contributes to learning and makes institutions stronger. Today, 60% of the members of the school’s Administrative Council are people of color. Since 2011, we have increased the diversity of our faculty and staff, from 24.4% in 2010-11 to 27.6% in 2013-14. In our student body, the percentage of students of color has increased from 30.6% when I arrived in 2011 to 33.5% today.

Also, the school head DAMIAN J. FERNANDEZ has a B.A. in International Relations and Latin American Studies, M.A. in Latin American Studies (Political Science), and a Ph.D. in International Relations. Jebby Bush also has a degree in Latin American Studies.

Seems like even private elite schools are having “diversity” crammed down their throats

    • A Pre-K through 5th grade school whose tuition this year is $43,265, meaning that kids who attend it come from parents who can afford $43,265 for elementary school tuition per kid, isn’t having anything crammed down its throats. If there’s any cramming going on, it’s in the active sense.

      • A top end pre-school in Florida is around $12K/yr and the very best private high schools (American Heritage) are in the $20K+ range. Of course Florida is not NY.

    • Hammerheart

Why don’t people ever question ‘diversity is our strength’? When diversity is NEVER a strength in any other thing, and often just weakens the main element? Do we want space shuttles to be made with a diverse collection of metals? How about putting a diverse range of chemicals in our drinking water? I’m going to attempt to load a diverse range of calibers in one my AR-15 magazine in hope to see an increase in performance.

Luckily, you can immediately peg someone as a mouth-breathing retard whenever they mention diversity within ear shot now.

      • Vito Powers

        A quote from Malcolm X:

“If I have a cup of coffee that is too strong for me because it is too black, I weaken it by pouring cream into it. I integrate it with cream. If I keep pouring enough cream in the coffee, pretty soon the entire flavor of the coffee is changed; the very nature of the coffee is changed. If enough cream is poured in, eventually you don’t even know that I had coffee in this cup. This is what happened with the March on Washington. The whites didn’t integrate it; they infiltrated it. Whites joined it; they engulfed it; they became so much a part of it, it lost its original flavor. It ceased to be a black march; it ceased to be militant; it ceased to be angry; it ceased to be impatient. In fact, it ceased to be a march.”

        • ElComadreja

Good old Malcolm Excrement. Let’s revisit his analogy using cream that’s had feces added.

        • Hammerheart

They didn’t even want white liberals around during Malcolm X’s time. Why do they bother sticking around?

“The world is not doing a very good job at teaching the issues of racial differences”

    You got that right.

  • WR_the_realist

“The world is not doing a very good job at teaching the issues of racial
differences and commonality of human experience,” said head of school
Damian Fernandez. “We at our school believe that we can do it better.”

If you want to experience a very good job at teaching the issues of racial differences just attend the next Amren conference. But third to fifth grade is a bit young.

  • dd121

I know the racial propaganda is effective on a lot of young people, but there are corners of the internet where a large segment of our youth have heard the pitch but have rejected it in the face of boon behavior. There is a very strong undercurrent of pro-white anti-black speech that many openly advocate. Of course there is no mainstream media which will even discuss the pathology of blacks.

  • Stogumber

    My five cents:

First I remind you that the School was founded as an “Ethical Culture” institution. It’s useful to study “Ethical Culture” – a movement of German Jews reinventing themselves as Universalists around 1900 -, because there’s the breeding gound of a lot of our present “liberal” moral suprematism, with its included moral contradictions.

Secondly, we have nothing to lose here. If the School wins, it will promote still lacking white identity. If the School loses, it will undermine existing black identity. But an interesting part will be played by Jewish parents: I hint that they won’t like their children being clamped together with white goyim and incited to feel guilty as whites.

    • bv

They like inciting it but not following it, unfortunately.

  • Light from the East

“Parent Sunny Hostin said she is Puerto Rican, Jewish and black while her husband is half-European and half-Haitian. Her biggest concern is the program’s mandatory nature.”
That’s strange because she worries about her child’s feeling but she did say her ancestry and her husband’s. Didn’t she tell her child the fact of who they are? Din’t her child watch TV and realize her look is different from any major group of people around the world and is not allowed to ask even why? Even “mixed” people have to know the concept of race otherwise what makes them “mixed”.

  • Suffer a good ass whipping by a gang of nasty black girls and you’ll change your attitude real fast.

    • ElComadreja

Nasty black girls. Are there any other kind?

      • Charles Martel

        Nappy ones.

  • Multiculturalism is cultural Marxism. White Christians out of the way then the NWO will reign supreme.

  • Realist

As long as whites allow it, it will happen.

  • TheMule61

Our first topic of conversation in our equality and racial tolerance forum is “Why are white people so evil?”
