Intel Allocates $300 Million for Workplace Diversity

Over the last year, Apple, Google and other big technology companies have faced mounting criticism by civil rights leaders about the lack of diversity in their work forces, which are populated mostly by white and Asian men.

Now Intel, the giant chip maker, is taking more concrete steps to do something about it.

On Tuesday, Intel said the company’s work force would better reflect the available talent pool of women and underrepresented minority groups in the United States within five years. If successful, the plan would increase the population of women, blacks, Hispanics and other groups at Intel by at least 14 percent during that period, the company said.

In addition, Intel said it has established a $300 million fund to be used in the next three years to improve the diversity of the company’s work force, attract more women and minorities to the technology field and make the industry more hospitable to them once they get there. The money will be used to fund engineering scholarships and to support historically black colleges and universities.

The company also said it would invest in efforts to bring more women into the games business, partly as an antidote to the harassment feminist critics and game developers have faced in recent months. {snip}


Many of the largest technology companies have released reports showing that roughly 70 percent of their employees are men and 30 percent are women. Depending on the company, blacks account for anywhere from 2 to 7 percent of workers at big tech companies.

The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr., who has led a campaign to pressure technology companies on diversity, said Intel was going beyond what others have done to remedy the imbalance in their work forces by setting more specific goals for hiring.

“There is no comparison,” said Mr. Jackson, the founder and president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, who has spoken to Intel about its plans. “It is far beyond at this point. I think others are going to follow their lead.”

Intel’s goals, though, face the harsh reality described by many technology leaders: The supply of skilled workers from underrepresented groups, especially in technical fields like engineering, is limited.

Rosalind L. Hudnell, Intel’s chief diversity officer, cited statistics showing that just 18 percent of undergraduate engineering degrees go to women. That makes it especially difficult to improve diversity at Intel, which leans more heavily on technical employees than other tech companies.


Intel’s employment statistics are fairly similar to those of its peers. It has published company gender and race statistics for over a decade. Its latest figures show that 76 percent of its American employees are male, 4 percent are black and 8 percent are Hispanic.

    This money will mainly be used to hire the close relatives of black reverends with cracker jack box theology degrees, hiring them into useless make work jobs at Intel, in non-tech departments like HR/Personnel, EEO, and what not. That’s how you shut black reverends up, by giving stuff to either them or their relatives.

    Tech companies can also count on much of that money going to black consultants with Affirmative Action degrees, preaching at endless meetings about all the joys of diversity without provide one logical example.

    First, they will waste money by paying the consultants and then, they lose productivity by having their employees sit there and receive nothing tangible for their time spent.

    Another transfer of wealth scheme. And Jesse will get his kick back fee from his consultants.

    I’m sick of this sort of thing. I’m no tech guy (I’m in college for physical therapy), but this I do know; to work in tech, you have to do well in advanced mathematics. Negroes can’t do mathematics. (Or science, technology or engineering) Everyone knows that including Jesse the Negro, but no one will say it. I want to be the Intel CEO for one week. I’ll do it for free too, I just want to tell all these race baiters to get lost and if they want negroes to work there (or anyone for that matter): computer literacy tests. No hiring someone with some idiotic, made up degree just so negroes can say they have a degree, most likely from a negroes only college (therefore bringing into question if they actually did the coursework or if the curriculum is actually college level). Take the test, if you score in the top say 15% of everyone taking the test you get a job. It’s a private company, responsible to shareholders and people have to be able to perform, regardless of race. The best person deserves the job, not the best negro.

    I work for one of the biggest defense contractors on the planet and we can’t buy a qualified black engineer at any price. We are so loaded up on ‘tokens’ but we’ve actually had to sacrifice a number of overqualified Asian employees through the years, in a most perverse, suicidal genuflection to the quota system. Try to imagine the lunacy of retaining barely literate Hispanic single mothers in part-time ‘technical’ positions while letting go of Asian doctoral students because our numbers did not meet the goobermint-mandated “diversity standard”. That is the sad reality of the direction in which my field has gone.

    Just where does Intel think its going to find those magical unicorns to fill its diversity slots?

          Everything you mention is only a matter of time for the Chinese.

          I have no doubt that left to ourselves and our culture, Whites would have outperformed everyone (look at the innovation of Germany before and during WWII. Even the Russians and our space programs came from those men and their achievements).

          But take note that arguably the highest quality phone, the iphone, is manufactured in China. Don’t fool yourself, the West with its shackles of Third Worlders and the loss of our work ethic is on a downward spiral and the Chinese are moving forward and will not repeat our immigration mistakes.

            I’ve written often that the reason there are so many foreign students in these grad programs is basically H-1B: H-1B draws in the foreign students, hoping for a job after graduation; the influx suppresses wages, causing America’s best and brightest to avoid STEM careers. An influential National Science Foundation position paper predicted this 20 years ago, and it proved quite prophetic.

            My own recent research found that the former foreign students, now working in industry, are actually LESS likely to produce a patent than are Americans of the same age, education etc., in the fields of computer science and electrical engineering.

            So, the less innovative are displacing the more innovative, a net loss.

            Work by Vining and others shows that E. Asians do in fact have a narrower SD (standard deviation) in their range of IQ scores across their population. This is likely why the “smart fraction” theory holds up so well. The E. Asians have a 3 – 5 point edge in average IQ, but whites have a much wider distribution, with the percentage of whites with IQs over 140 much higher. Couple that with the higher creativity and better divergent thinking overall in Caucasians and there’s the reason for the lag when it comes to Asians inventing things.

            Overall we are “better,” but within their mass populations, they have man for man at least as many intelligent and creative individuals. They are drawing from over 1.5 billion people

This goes against the primary activity of most white activists, namely complaining about other demographics, but we do have special interests in living in a safe, healthy, pro-family environment, and that should be the focus. It’s hard to take, but complaining about other demographics is not our job.

      My son is studying EE/CS at a UC in California.

      He’s already been subjected to these “diversity” lectures in the IT workplace.

      The last lecture he was forced to listen to was from a tranny (I’m not kidding he/she was very proud of having had gender-reassignment surgery, I’m sure at taxpayer expense) – demanding more “people of color” and gay/transgendered people be placed as characters in video games.

      The feeling was after the lecture (all were unfortunately too afraid to say anything during the lecture since the prof was sitting right there and it could affect their grade) — if trannies, gays, blacks- whoever- want to see more “poc” or gays, etc. in video games – there is nothing stopping them from raising funding and then designing, creating and programming their own games – a two year process.

          The good news is, the students, according to my son, are not buying into the PC lies – in fact, they see straight through them. They want to design and create video games and understand what does and doesn’t sell.

          I think the brainwashing started to wear off at the end of high school when this group of high-achieving, high IQ Whites (and yes, Asians too) saw blacks and browns far below them in class rank and test scores fawned over by major universities – offered full rides, etc. – while they were rejected by many of those same universities. Of course, these engineering students either pay full freight or their parents (like me) pay. One math book was over $300 (!!).

          Funny, there don’t seem to be any black or brown electrical engineering students in any of my son’s classes, but the “black/chicano studies” seems to be full of them.

      I’ve seen “diversity” hiring, and this is exactly the way it works. A certain number of incompetent tokens are hired. They typically do little to no actual work, or very shoddy work, while qualified whites bust their humps. This is of course overlooked by the employer. The whites quietly and discreetly grumble about it, but tolerate it because to complain about it means getting fired. The “job” of the token is to be a “professional minority” and simply be “seen” in the employer’s environment, while highly qualified whites or Asians are either not hired, or hired as contractors or consultants with no benefits or job security while the black token is lavishly paid.

      The costs of this inefficiency are transferred to the customer (or the taxpayer) who essentially pays a “diversity tax” in the final price of the product.

      Someone else in this thread stated that he wished he could be the unpaid CEO of Intel for a short time, and he’d give everyone hell. So would I, but it’s a moot point.

      Just as democracy applied to public politics is degenerative, a publicly traded corporation is the business world’s equivalent of a democracy. You and I know what we would do as Intel CEO, but by the same token, you and I will never be the CEO of Intel.
