Officer Kills Armed 18-Year-Old near Ferguson

Jim Suhr and Jim Salter, Yahoo! News, December 24, 2014

The mayor of the St. Louis suburb of Berkeley called for calm Wednesday after a white police officer killed a black 18-year-old who police said pointed a gun at him. The shooting reignited tensions that have lingered since the death of Michael Brown in neighboring Ferguson.

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said the officer was questioning two men–one later identified as 18-year-old Antonio Martin–late Tuesday about a theft at a Berkeley convenience store when Martin pulled a 9mm handgun on the officer.

The officer stumbled backward but fired three shots, one of which struck Martin, Belmar said. No shots came from Martin’s loaded gun, the chief said.

Martin died at the scene, though Belmar declined to specify where the fatal bullet hit Martin.

Berkeley is near Ferguson, Missouri, where white police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed, black 18-year-old, on Aug. 9, sparking weeks of sometimes violent demonstrations. {snip}

The 34-year-old, white Berkeley police officer, a six-year veteran of the police force in the 25,000-resident suburb, is on administrative leave pending an investigation, Belmar said. {snip}

The officer wasn’t wearing his body camera, and his police cruiser’s dashboard camera was not activated because the car’s emergency lights were not on, Belmar said.

Police released surveillance video from the parking lot outside the store. The nearly two-minute clip shows two young men leaving the store as a patrol car rolls up, and the officer gets out and speaks with them. About 90 seconds later, the video appears to show one of the men raising his arm, though what he is holding is difficult to see because they were several feet from the camera. Belmar said it was a 9mm handgun–loaded with one round in the chamber and five more in the magazine.

Police were searching for the other man, who fled on foot.

It was the third fatal shooting of a black suspect by a white police officer in the St. Louis area since Brown was killed. Kajieme Powell, 25, was killed on Aug. 19 after approaching St. Louis officers with a knife. Vonderrit Myers, 18, was fatally shot on Oct. 8 after allegedly shooting at a St. Louis officer.

Each shooting has been met by protests, and a crowd quickly gathered late Tuesday in Berkeley. The demonstration involving about 300 people turned violent.

More than 50 police officers, some in riot gear, responded. Video showed some wrestling with protesters. Belmar said officers used pepper spray but not tear gas. Four people were arrested on charges of assaulting officers.

Belmar said three explosive devices, perhaps fireworks, were tossed near gas pumps, and some protesters threw rocks and bricks. One officer hit by a brick was treated for facial cuts, and another was treated for a leg injury sustained as he retreated from an explosive.

{snip} Ferguson also was criticized for having only three black officers on its 53-member force. Seventeen or 18 of Berkeley’s 31 officers are black, as is the police chief and the city’s top elected officials, said Hoskins, who is black.

Belmar said Martin had a criminal record that included three assault charges and others for armed robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

Some protesters questioned why the officer couldn’t use pepper spray or a stun gun.

“Frankly, that’s unreasonable,” Belmar said. “When we had somebody pointing a gun at a police officer, there’s not a lot of time.”

Just proves that blacks don’t care what the circumstances are, all they care about is a black being killed by a white.

    • Bryce Armstrong

Thats not true, they care about a lot of other things, killing, raping, scamming social security, dog fighting, crace. The list goes on and on, they are not a shallow people.

There’s a chain store in the South that rents rims to Africans. It’s called RNR, Rent N Roll.

          • We have one in Greensboro called Rim Job.

          • .

          • They have those in St. Louis. Someone showed me one of their circulars a few years ago, and they had wheels as expensive as $3000 a pair, meaning six grand for all four. Who is gullible and dumb enough to pay $6,000 for wheels for cars that may not be worth even that much? Oh yeah…

          • They rent, but don’t necessarily pay. My wife managed apartments until recently and said rim repossessions are common, especially in the weeks after the NCA&T homecoming which is a big deal in the black community. They leave the car on blocks.

There are some overzealous cops out there but, in general, the war on cops is a strategic objective in the war on whites. It is an essential element in the islamo-black mission to destroy western civilization.

        • eldoradocreekskipper

So right. The middle easterners and blacks are attacking western civilization and whites, Europeans, also.

      • NoMosqueHere

        dog fighting is a biggie.

        • Who Me?

Blacks like dog fighting, Mexicans like cock fighting (chickens). White people like fighting animal abuse.

I forgot to mention whining, their MOST notable feature.

      • Realist

Whites do a lot of whining about blacks. Whites brought them here as cheap labor. Now whites are paying the price. ‘Cheap labor’ is never cheap.

        • Beowald

“Cheap labor” is still the objective of the pro-immigration Chamber of Commerce. Some people don’t learn from history.

          • Realist

        • Sick of it

Cheap labor doesn’t use up 80% of its work product to survive. Cheap labor would be poor, dispossessed whites in this country. Notice I didn’t say Hispanics, etc. because they get welfare benefits which make them rather expensive laborers.

        • Sheik Yerbouti

Today’s whites are complaining about crap that today’s blacks are doing. There is no justifying today’s crime with facts from decades and centuries ago. Those were different people.

This BS can’t continue. Time for blacks in the US to grow up.

Are you sure about that, I have the impression that they don’t care at all and are only groping for excuses for looting, murdering and pillaging.

    • Sick of it

Pretty much. It’s hard to paint a picture of hardcore murderers with badges specifically targeting black men when the real story makes me picture Barney Fife and wonder if they had forgotten their training or if they were ever trained to deal with a violent conflict.

  • Here’s the money quote from a presser that the mayor of Berkeley (and I can assure you it’s not Berkeley as in California) held late last night:

He does not believe this is a racially motivated shooting. “We are different from the City of Ferguson.” According to the mayor, “Jumping to conclusions without investigating is not acceptable.” He believes that close to 90 percent of officers do their best to serve and protect the community.

I deconstructed this statement like a good PR hack should, and what he’s saying here is that all those cops in neighboring Ferguson are nothing but a bunch of blood thirsty racist retrogrades.

Incidentally, the cop in Berkeley in this case is white and 34 years old.

    • propagandaoftruth

    • Usually Much Calmer

I heard it on the radio this morning. I thought and rejected your first assumption.
All he is saying when contrasting with Ferguson is, “Baby, please, please, PLEASE, I am begging you, don’t riot and destroy my town. I’m not like Ferguson, I swear.”

      • That could be a valid interpretation and it could be what he was really trying to say. (As if there’s really anything in Berkeley to burn.) However, those are the pitfalls of communication. You say something and mean something to ten people, yet all ten will walk away with their own interpretation, and not the one you intended.

That said, my deconstruction is the message that a lot of people will take away.

        • Nancy

What I took away from that quote was his belief that a minimum of 10% of his officers are either apathetic, dangerously incompetent, or bloodthirsty racist vigilantes.

“Close to 90%” of his officers do their best to serve and protect their community? Does this mean he’s not sure of which ones are in the 10% group? I likened it to being a teacher at a private school: If only 90% of the faculty did their best every day, I can guarantee the principal would be aware which teachers comprised the “Terrible Tenth” and would NOT renew their contracts next fall.

          • Max

Police Union and A.A. lawsuits will prevent getting rid of the incompetent/malicious.

      • AndrewInterrupted

The cop made a few mistakes, in that he didn’t call for back-up right away, and he allowed the blacks to surround him. He should have backed away to keep them all in his front. That’s how a lot of cops get killed, by allowing flanking maneuvers. This cop probably broke discipline to appease the PC crowd. It almost got him killed.

        • Daniel McGrath

The cop made a few mistakes. He didn’t eliminate enough of the garbage.

That almost happened to a cop in my town. When his partner came in, he saw another black about to shoot him in the back and shot the black guy. It was turned into a big deal despite the fact that the guy shot was a violent drug dealer. A violent drug dealer attempting to murder a cop in cold blood.

Right, a good young man who robbed stores, carried a 9MM, had an arrest

I doubt it was intentional, but it is distressing how their endless, irrelevant refrain about “unarmed” has even crept into the language here on AR. The circumstances are not important. Facts are irrelevant. What a place to live. And FWIW: Just a guess, but it wouldn’t surprise me to find the gun didn’t fire because he forgot to release the safety. Watch for this detail.

  • Lee_CPA

From the Atlanta Journal: “…the 18-year-old had a considerable criminal record in the less than two years since he turned 17, with three assault charges, armed robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.”

So, why wasn’t this young man, who looks like he could be Obama’s son, serving a prison sentence for all those offenses? How much longer does civilized society have to put up with these feral blacks, who rob, rape, assault and commit other violent crimes without abandon?

One of the photos show his alleged mother. I use the term “mother” strictly in the biological sense. Where is his father? Where were his parents when he was two, six, twelve, sixteen? Maybe if you were a real MOM and DAD, your son wouldn’t be laying on the coroners table.

That is completely wrong, we have already thrown millions of dollars at them, it does nothing.

100 years from now, things will be the same or worse than they are now. Blacks and whites will still be miles apart from each other and unable to live around each other. The only answer is for the two races to separate. That’s it, nothing else is going to work.

    Why ‘dance’ around this issue?

Fact of the matter, some blacks demand the ‘right’ to assault, murder, or rape anyone–particularly Whites as retribution for existing.

They never want to be held to any standard of behavior; yet others are to legally prevented from resisting or defending against their unprovoked attacks.

Furthermore, they demand that any attempt, under a court system built around the rule of law, evidence and facts by abolished in favor of mob rule and ‘justice’.

This attitude has all but been encouraged from none other than the White House, DOJ and the media–along with growing restraints to curb any protective or defensive action by LE.

Make NO mistake, the potential increasing violent and bloody incidents initiated by negroes in 2015 is quite high.

Be prepared so you will not be a victim.

The current situation with black America has been coming for quite sometime. What do I mean? As all the posters here on this site are aware there’s been a tremendous amount of not only violent but random and exceptionally cruel viciousness from young black males against all members of society starting around Bush 2’s second term. Especially unsuspecting whites. This coincides with a new generation of young blacks born in the early 90s, raised and coming of age in a 24 hour a day rap culture while simutaneously being told the white man did it at every turn. A toxic mix of nihilistic criminality and chip on the shoulder pathology that breeds psychopaths with no regard for fellow citizenry. What’s happened is that people and law enforcement are starting to get the message and are shooting tards left and right. This is what blacks are upset about. The argument that the entire “hands up movement/ protests are a reaction to “police brutality/ white privilege/institutional racism is non sense. This is about a group of people that are pissed they’re not being allowed to get away with crime.

It’s not a new thing. Griffith’s Birth of a Nation pointed out it was going on during reconstruction. My heavens, it was going on since 1492 and the Columbian Exchange.

  • RacialRay

Even hoodrats are not stupid enough to point a gun at the po-leese without the intent to fire. The cop was entirely justified to empty his clip into the miscreant at that point. What I can’t get through my head is why ANY white cop is still on the beat in a majority-black area.

Sooner or later I am going to lose my empathy for these white cops who stay on in black neighborhoods, knowing full well that they are marked men.

    • MrGJG

What can they do? They can’t pick and choose where they patrol. This is their livelihoods, it’s how they put food on the table and support their white families.
I guess they could claim mental stress and get full disability. Most white people don’t think that way. White people have honor.

      • toldev

I disagree with that. I once had a good job then ended up being not such a good job once I got a black boss. I mearly switched jobs.

    • Sick of it

Neighborhoods like this become black in less than 10 years. You know that, right? From full white to full black. I’ve seen it.

  • Mack0

Only his death would have proven he wasn’t a racist. Like Jesus he would have died for traymichael Browntin’s sins.

  • KyraNelson

“Belmar said Martin had a criminal record that included three assault charges and others for armed robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon”.
18 years old & this is what he has to show for it. Imagine all the possible carnage coming from this one person, nipped in the bud.. Most families would be ashamed of someone like that. Not his mom, though. Business as usual.

    • Dave West

It seems like the bigger thug that the “innocent” black person who gets killed is, the more likely, their previously nonexistent family is to support them. Take Eric Garner for example, he has been caught selling illegal cigarettes 5 pervious times and has been arrested more than 30 times in his magnificent criminal career that was cut shot by the “racist” NYPD “gestapo.”

    • RileyDeWiley

That’s just since he turned 18. Everything else is juvie and not released.

      • KyraNelson

What age would the crimes be charged as adult? 18? You mean all that in one year????? Sheesh. Good riddance.

        • Missouri sets 17 as the minimum age for adult criminal responsibility in all cases. So his entire adult record was run up since his 17th birthday.

The key move in the whole Ferguson ordeal was Ferguson police chief Thomas Jackson’s decision to release the Michael Brown convenience store robbery video. This effectively check mated the media’s ability to portray Michael Brown as a saintly child. Without this move I’m afraid the media would’ve been able to cause an avalanche of public opinion, white public opinion specifically, to come down against Darren Wilson. The usual suspects have criticized this move as the police trying to justify the shooting after the fact. In reality, it was simply about combating the unconscionable media bias against whites and police. I’m glad he had the guts to do it. It’s sets a good example for us all. Fight back!

    • Epiminondas

We’ve come a long way since the Bush administration railroaded those LA cops in the Rodney King episode. I’ll never forgive that ghastly New Englander for that. It was exactly the kind of move Eric Holder would have made.

    • What that did was bust the narrative from an optics and PR perspective. Three days later, when Eric Raymond analyzed the first autopsy, that’s what took things to “beyond a reasonable doubt.” Meaning this thing became settled science on August 18.

    • BlueSonicStreak

Never forget that Holder wanted to withhold that video.

  • MrGJG

You my friend are suffering from the malady called “negro fatigue”. It’s a common affliction usually brought on by over exposure to the Africanus Americanus.

tried to watch the BroadChurch series.. David Tennant in a microscopically small English coastal hamlet where there are no Blacks. child murder ensues.. they just had to bring in a black male, to date the White sister.. it starts off he’s funneling drugs to the sister, then all ends well as he’s welcomed into the family.. puke! he was the only Black in town, and lived on a dairy farm.. yeah, right…sure.

it won’t surprise me if the heebbeeb slaps a giant opaque black grinning face over the entire screen in the near future.

    • kikz2

a Christian acquaintance on fb, had posted a thing about a ‘world child choir’ event he was to attend recently… i felt like asking him, had he noticed that in this ‘world’ there was no White face? i let it lie.

  • Caucasoid88

Since 18 of 31 police officers are black, no one will be able to criticize it for not reflecting its community. They just want to be violent.

  • Belinda Boundreau

    One word: Rosewood.

  • Cid Campeador

IF we compare the number of Whites killed by Blacks with the number of Blacks killed by Whites the White body count is a winner. Most Blacks killed by Whites are generally confrontations with Law Enforcement.

False. You never allow them to your flank, in the clouded douche bag you’re peering through. He backed up about 30 seconds late. He would have been backing up toward the street from the direction reinforcements were arriving. You’re using the Mayberry RFD handbook.

Can you think of anything more stupid than pointing a gun at a police officer?

  • Magician

I cannot think of anything fatally stupid than pointing a gun at a police officer. Police officers always have to deal with people who can potentially murder them and/or others.

I searched around and found a photo of Antonio Martin’s girlfriend, Keanna Brown, and her comments.

““He didn’t deserve to die,” Brown told The Huffington Post outside the Mobil gas station where Martin was shot. “He was so scared, I’m telling you, he was so scared. He looked at me like ‘Baby, please jump in between and say something to save me.’””

This waste of oxygen continues to amaze me. He is so scared he wants to hide behind his girlfriend. What a combination of unbelievable stupidity and cowardliness.

  • Americaandthewestshouldbewhite

These blacks and most non whites are really a waste of space. I sued to be against abortion for moral religious reasons, but now if a black and non white wants to abort, I would not stop them. They are actually doing us a favor by not bringing a future liability on the welfare roll.

  • Steve_in_Vermont

“Are these people really as stupid as they seem……”. Yes, they are.

  • Jacobite2

The problem isn’t strictly race. The problem is that crime, along with government welfare checks, is the basis of ‘urban’ neighborhood economy. As criminal enclaves, peopled by criminals, who is surprised that police aren’t welcomed? Who is surprised that police, of any race, will never be welcome?

  • eldoradocreekskipper

All of the recent shootings used as an excuse for riots and protests have been justified. These are not anti-police protests, these are anti-white protests and attempts to take over law enforcement.

  • Magician

    How ridiculous! How disgusting!

A man can point his gun at a police officer but the police officer is obligated to use a “stun gun” or a pepper spray at the man who is pointing his gun at him?

The man who pointed his gun at the police officer, and the rioters who are demanding that the police officers start using pepper spray at urban youths who are pointing his gun at the officers, are making the police force of this country really angry and hate them…..

  • A Freespeechzone

‘He was trying to get his life back on track’ is ALWAYS mentioned when a thug or gang member is killed.

Guess it makes the ‘parents’ and ‘community’ justify their anger for the person who killed them–more often than not, in self defense.

  • paul kersey

The black was going to shoot the cop to try to get away. He knew he would get serious time for carrying a 9mm with the serial number filed off, carrying firearm while robbing the store, under 21 carrying the firearm, etc. and most likely they had drugs on them as well. that is why. Blacks know the law he did not want to serve 5 years at 18 years old. The safety was probably on and he could not fire.

When one group says to the other that they want a free reign to commit murder and mayhem without interference, what you have is a declaration of war. But like the pre 9/11 days, we mistakenly pretend that we can ignore such declarations. By killing our people one or two at a time, blacks and the media can bury the stories to prevent widespread white public outrage. All the histrionics of the protesters are attempts to justify (if only in their minds) their future violent crimes against whites. Our rules of engagement require us to act only in self defense. Blacks are on offense. They don’t like going up against cops and CCW because they frequently lose those contests. So they murder our women and the elderly because they’re cowards. This is the real racial injustice taking place in America in 2014. It’s the land of the free for black criminals – innocent victims, not so much.

  • kikz2

it’s BPD.. Black Personality Disorder.. or BWB..Breathing While Black.

  • Not quite; they would be vociferously demanding gun control for whites, as if white gun owners somehow cause blacks to shoot each other.

  • Throwing explosive devices in the environs of a gas station does not seem particularly bright… oh. Never mind.

  • Paleoconn

I suppose The Talk doesn’t include ‘never point a gun at a policeman’. It would appear that you need to spell everything out for the yutes.
