Fighting Back: Residents Force Feds to Scrap Plan to House Illegals at Va. College

S.A. Miller, Washington Times, June 16, 2014

The Obama administration Monday abruptly halted plans to shelter some of the children surging across the border at a defunct college in rural Virginia, as the White House has continued to see its efforts to house the children throughout the country be thwarted by opposition from local officials.

As many as 500 children were to start arriving this week at St. Paul’s College, a recently closed historically black college in Lawrenceville, Virginia. But the Health and Human Services Department’s plans were stymied, at least temporarily, after town and county officials objected to the short notice and complete lack of community input.

“We were stunned,” said Robert F. Pecht III, president of the Lawrenceville Town Council, who learned of the plan Friday evening. “We were told it was a done deal. The lease was signed, and that was it.”

As the feds worked over the weekend preparing the campus for the arrival of the children, whom officials said would be ages 11 to 17, public outrage erupted in the community, which is about 70 miles south of Richmond.

Letters flooded the town council offices, including from nearby residents threatening to boycott the town if the college became a way station for illegal immigrant youths.

Rep. Robert Hurt, the Republican congressman who represents the region, sent a letter to HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell on Monday morning demanding she halt the project. After the delay was announced, Mr. Hurt said it should be the beginning of a total rethink.

The administration has scrambled to find temporary housing for the children, who are pouring across the border in unprecedented numbers.

Plans to house some of the children at an empty office complex in Baltimore were halted after the city’s Democratic mayor and Maryland’s two Democratic senators objected as soon as the details were announced.

In Virginia, the administration signed a five-month lease with an option to renew for up to three years, all of it before officials caught wind of it, said Bernard L. Jones Sr., chairman of the Brunswick County Board of Supervisors.

He said HHS officials estimated that a steady stream of children would be housed on the campus, each child staying about 30 days until being reunited with a parent.

Jerry Prince, the owner of Prince’s Barber Shop in Lawrenceville, said that he wanted what was best for the children, but he feared the children would bring diseases to his town.

“Even kids carry diseases like smallpox, chickenpox and scabies,” said Mr. Prince, 40.

The fears may not be unfounded.

Immigration officials have said many of the children have never seen a doctor until they are intercepted by agents at the border, and head lice and scabies screenings are part of the initial checks.

After seeing the local opposition to the Lawrenceville site, HHS officials hit pause.

“The project of developing Saint Paul’s College as a site for caring for minors in the Unaccompanied Alien Children program is on hold pending community input,” said Kenneth J. Wolfe, spokesman for HHS’s Administration for Children and Families.

HHS officials will attend a community meeting about the plan Thursday in Lawrenceville.

AmRen‘s good news article of the week…

  • A good example of effective local activism which we need to see and be doing more and more of.

  • Truthseeker

I know just the place where these kids can stay: In the homes of the traitorous politicians who insist on letting them be in this country. Surely they have enough spare rooms, right?

    • DonReynolds

They are Quislings, siding with the invader.

    • Erasmus

Cram them into the Obama house in Chicago. They’re Central Americans. Several families should be able to live in a single room.

    Sruprise surprise!

As many as 500 children were to start arriving this week at St. Paul’s College, a recently closed historically black college in Lawrenceville, Virginia.

A HBCU closed. Or would that be a HNCU.

    • bilderbuster

Does anyone care to guess who is going to profit for housing these Diseased Future Tin Horned Dictators of America at the HBCU?

  • The Final Solution

The crack in the dam is now a full-on flood. The only way to stop it is at the border. Our govt. diverts all the funds to the symptoms rather than the cause. America’s third world future is pretty much sealed.

    • Erasmus

And our “leaders” had better realize that this time we’re taking names.

  • DonReynolds

“The administration has scrambled to find temporary housing for the children, who are pouring across the border in unprecedented numbers.”
They do not need housing. They have a home to go to in their own country and they desperately need to go there. The Federal government needs to turn them back at the border, as they should any adult alien attempting to enter the country illegally.

    • bilderbuster

They need to be returned to the other side of the border that they invaded from.
After that it’s Mexico’s turn to play the “humanitarian” role and worry about returning them to their country of origin.

      • DonReynolds

You are absolutely correct. Whether they are from Korea, or China, or Afghanistan, or El Salvador…..makes no difference. They are not required to return to their home country, they just cannot come here.

  • dd121

Obama’s war on whites continues unabated. Do you think anyone will resist?

    • Einsatzgrenadier

They’re going to have to resist or future generations of whites will have to clean up after the Baby Boomer generation. And by clean up, I mean get rid of the nonwhite parasites and fight a civil war or two.

      • bilderbuster

It’s about time that the people who are drawing up the contracts to house the invaders started getting visits to their homes and asked directly what their true motives are.

    • So CAL Snowman

      • dd121

        Maybe, under the right circumstances.

        • bilderbuster

          If not now?

          • dd121

I think when society is disrupted and broken down.

        • Ringo Lennon

I think it will take some national incident to flare up a percentage of white people. Then once it picks up steam the country will be ours.

  • The people win one once in a while, but the mestizos will end up in somebody else’s back yard.

Refuse to supply the housing site with water or electricity my friends who are targeted by the feds to take the thurds. Make the feds house them on military bases, thus peeing off the military and making the feds nervous about what a disgruntled soldier might do.

Make the chaos work in our favor, hastening the day that resistance becomes meaningful enough that the feds have to stop them at the border.

    • DonReynolds

I would burn the house or tear it down first…..or maybe store hay in it. The feds cannot take the house and they are not going to fix the house. I can keep it off the market for YEARS of very slow remodeling. The needlework alone could take decades……and I might even change my mind later and let a friend or relative use it instead.

  • 4321realist

    Send them to Chicago.

    • bilderbuster

      Chicago’s full already.

      • r j p

    • Ringo Lennon

Send them to St. Louis. They don’t have any.

  • IKUredux

Oh, please, the only reason this was probably stopped, is because this college is going to be declared an historic monument on the “freedom trail”, or some such crap. Can’t have the little mexican pigs screwing the place up. Or, somebody in that town knows somebody in WDC who is high enough up in the rotten hierarchy to stop it. Seriously, the feds don’t care how the locals feel about their displacement. Trust me, there is something else afoot there.

  • MBlanc46

We not only do kick the little bahstahds our, we house and feed them at our expense. We’re feeding the hand that’s going to bite us.

  • SoulInvictus

I don’t see what is so difficult about finding a solution for this.
We have a navy with a $155.8 billion budget.
We have a coast guard with a $9.8 billion budget.

Are there somehow no boats purchased with these billions?
Load them up, take the short cruise down to their country of origin.
Unload them with their respective port authorities.
Their citizens, their governments jobs to deal with.

If libs want to be super generous, charter a few cruise ships and contract some licensed daycare or social workers. Shouldn’t they be eager to reunite them with their families there after all? I know south of the border isn’t paradise in some places, but am I missing something and some sort of famine or WWIII broke out down there and I just somehow overlooked the news?
I don’t get why there’s discussion one about needing to host them anywhere here.
I haven’t seen anyone propose anything along the lines of the above…

Why hasn’t he been impeached, there are only a limited amount of things that the federal gov. are supposed to be concerned with and one of the most important is border security.
The fact that Obama is undermining this security is in itself grounds for impeachment, but the congress is so corrupt and useless that he has been getting away with breaking a multitude of laws without suffering any consequences.

  • Vito Powers

I am willing to bet that it’s religious groups that are funding the smugglers bringing these kids across the border. It’s all about playing on emotions. Who can be so cruel as to deport women and children, blah blah? Please place and house them in Kennebunkport Maine and Austin, Texas where they will be welcomed with open arms.

  • Who Me?

Way to go for starters. Obama lets em in, but nobody lets em stay, so they have to go back home. (Probably not, but it’s a happy thought.) Love to see Obama put his money where his mouth is and take in 4 or 5 of these 16-17 year-old MS13 gangbangers for a couple months and see how well he still likes these “poor children”….

  • Erasmus

McCain, the Bushes and Obama’s well-heeled friends can all house them at their private mansions. It is time for our “best” and “brightest” to start feeling the consequences of their mis-guided and nation-destroying policies.

  • kikz2

i don’t see anybody in the FED ponying up to house homeless American children or Vets for that matter.

    it does amaze me…

FEMA has been tasked with the readiness to logistically move extremely large numbers of citizens during natural disasters since the freakin’ Carter admin.. you’d think they’ve have the facilities and logistical abilities to accomplish this in their sleep.

  • Let’s not forget Martha’s Vinyard!

    • r j p

      1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?
      It’s already a crack house.
      Why not make it official?

  • Truth Teller

On another site it was reported that it is a majority black town. So much for brown, black and tan solidarity.

  • kikz2

i pray to God that’s accurate, and the first i’ve heard of it..somebody has to stop this, even on principles of public health/CDC issues.

Goodhair has only said he ‘doesn’t have the troops’ to protect the 1200mi TX border. he also said, that the job was in exclusivity the province and responsibility of the Fed.

i did read ystrdy a directive to the DPS from Goodhair to its head, authorizing more border agents to be installed ..until….and no restrictions on funding… and also that the states were duty bound to ‘step up’ if/when the Fed fell down… well, the Fed is changing diapers, handing out condoms, and running chauffeur svc to various inland cities presently…….. so i dunno.

Goodhair’s angle on the taped interview was one of worry inre the invasion, as it had been determined that middle eastern -terrorist types are gaining number in the crossings. no one mentioned how this had been determined. sounds fishy to me, even though i do accept the ‘official line’ that there is a strong and growing presence of islam in Mex/S.A. goodhair/lindsay graham are both raising flags on this.. i just wonder if they are predictive of another ‘false flag’ to some final staging of the police state…. or worse….?
