Teen Accepted into All Eight Ivy League Schools Holds Press Conference to Announce His Decision

James Nye, Daily Mail (London), May 1, 2014

In a move reminiscent of LeBron’s The Decision, the New York teen offered places at all eight Ivy League schools held a press conference on Wednesday to announce Yale was his choice.

Seventeen-year-old Kwasi Enin announced his eagerly awaited decision at William Floyd High School on Long Island and declared that Yale’s music program is what swayed his decision.

The senior hit international headlines last month when he revealed he had been accepted to every single Ivy League college backed by his parents who are both nurses and emigrated to the United States from Ghana in the 1980s.

Kwasi Enin

Kwasi Enin

Enin scored 2,250 out of 2,400 on his SAT. He was also accepted at Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania.

His incredible feat beat the odds–Harvard only accepted 5.9 percent of applicants in during this round and Cornell, which accepts more than the other seven schools, still only takes 14 percent.

Enin plans to study music and medicine and said of Yale, ‘I met people who were just like me–diverse in both science and music–and they told me how manageable it is doing both.’

The teen said he is looking forward to singing in one of Yale’s capella groups and playing in one of its orchestras.

‘I’m very satisfied with my offer,’ he said of Yale. ‘They’re very generous on their aid.’

At the news conference in the school gym, Enin thanked his parents and educators who helped him along the way.

‘Without their assistance, I would not be in this position,’ he said to NBC New York. ‘I would not have had the initial drive to strive for excellence.’

His mother said her son is ‘proving himself to be on the right path.’ She and her husband have sought to instill “strong moral qualities” in Enin and his sister since they were young, she said.

‘We are so proud and so excited about all that he has achieved,’ she said.

His father said he has always been strict about his children’s academics.

‘I told him, ‘Look, your worst grade in school should be a 95,’ he said.

Earlier this month, the admissions essay penned by Enin was released.

In the biographical statement he submitted for the Common Application, he wrote about how music is ‘the spark of my intellectual curiosity’ and helped him connect to his community through plays.

‘While onstage as Big Jule of Guys and Dolls during my favorite musical, I helped create a wonderful atmosphere in the school auditorium by singing and dancing,’ the essay reads.

He goes on to tout his involvement in the local men’s Doo Wop group as well as the chamber ensemble.

‘With improvement and balance comes success, and music taught me all of these virtues,’ he wrote.

‘My haven for solace in and away from home is in the world of composers, harmonies and possibilities.’

‘The self-guided journey known as music in my life excites my mind every day. My heart sings every day because the journey is already wonderful. Although I hope that my future career is in medicine, I love that I still have much to learn about and from the world of music.’

The 17-year-old from Long Island, who had already been accepted early into Princeton, got into Brown. Columbia, Cornell, Yale and Dartmouth on March 27.

By 5pm that day, he had six Ivy League colleges offering him a place at their institutions, and then the toughest of them all, Harvard, sent the William Floyd High School student an email.

The university has an acceptance rate of only 5.9 per cent–meaning only 2,023 of the 34,295 applicants will get in–and they wanted Kwasi.

‘I was like–this can’t be happening!’ Kwasi told Newsday.

He told The New York Post that much of his success is a result of his hovering ‘helicopter parents’, who both work as nurses after moving to America from Ghana in 1980.

‘He’s an amazing kid. He’s very humble,’ his father Ebenezer Enin said.

‘He’s been trained to be a high achiever right from when he was a kid.

‘We have been encouraging him to be an all-around student. So far, he has proved himself.’

If he was accepted into all eight Ivy League schools, I doubt he was actually going to go to Brown.

  • Luca

Geeze, not one word of thanks to America, the best place on Earth for people with African DNA, African immigrants and any other protected minority class. He should be kissing the ground and thanking his lucky stars he is no longer in Ghana where his future would probably be selling fruit and bush meat from a roadside stand or pushcart

    • APaige

And we lower standards for them. He did not even graduate in the top ten of his high school. His SATs were at the median for Columbia, which would be the fourth best of the 8 ivies.( behind Harvard, Yale and Princeton, right?)

  • Great reality show: Negro Worship Gone Wild. The cameras can follow Kwasi around all day and watch him do his thing as Kwasi struggles to overcome evil white racism. Meanwhile, they should follow the white kid with the perfect SAT score who wasn’t admitted because Kwasi race replaced him or her. They never tell you about the equally superior white kid, do they?

    • Puggg

Don’t be silly. He’s going to succeed at Yale. They’ll make sure if that, even if they have to drag him by the scruff of his neck into an easy major where he’ll get top grades all the time, and once he leaves Yale with all A’s of course, he’ll get hired on in some affirmative action job. I see him as a career urban public school superintendent, going from city to city.

He’s going to succeed, in the same sense that if you’re waiting to play a game, the other team doesn’t show up, the referees call a forfeit, then you can boast about the great game you played.

      • Yes, of course he’s going to succeed–in spite of all the obstacles that racist whites put in his way. “Reality” TV is the phoniest TV there is. Remember how Storage Wars was allegedly planting goodies in those storage units for the bidders to find.

As to his future, the way things are going, the Constitution be damned, he’ll be POTUS or SCOTUS or somesuch.

  • richard garyson

While 2,250 is an impressive SAT score, it is only newsworthy because he is black, and while such scores are not overly common for whites or Asians, they are almost unheard of for blacks. I saw an new clip about a black teen from Oakland who scored 2,100 on the SAT. Again, good scores, but only newsworthy for blacks.

    • AutomaticSlim

Yes, scholastically speaking he’s an outlier among his kind, that’s for sure.
But it still doesn’t mean he won’t C.O. and pull an O.J. somewhere down the line.
Remember the black doctor in Buffalo a couple of years ago?

He would have a better chance of becoming a free thinker if he had chosen his local state school.

  • nativist

The competition among Ivy colleges for blacks who can actually do the level of work required is so intense that it would be surprising if he had not been accepted (and probably courted) by all eight schools.

  • anew

His score is average for the Ivy League (at least for HYP), and his essay* is community college quality. And this is on the news. There’s that white privilege again.

He did write eight of those things, so I guess can cut him some slack. Plus, the combination of his poor writing and high SAT score probably means that he is a hard-working overachiever. But still, this is kind of a joke.

    • connorhus

Ya my first thought was “That is an Ivy League Essay?”

Not that I have any right to be a grammar policeman myself. I don’t bother to follow even half the rules when I comment or write, but he sure does like his sentence fragments.

    • I was going to post about that. His essay is pure mediocrity. I Googled around and read a few examples of Ivy League essays. They were like reading novels.

  • GB101

His incredible feat beat the odds–Harvard only accepted 5.9 percent of applicants in during this round and Cornell, which accepts more than the other seven schools, still only takes 14 percent

All these universities accept 100% of black applicants with SATs scores like his.

  • Quick everyone, gather the kids and neighbors around the TV, a young black man is about to announce what college he’s decided to attend!

Seriously, I wish the kid well, but if this were a young white male, it wouldn’t have even made the local news let alone garnered the attention of the nation. In their own way, the MSM is conceding that blacks are less intelligent in that they’ve made such a big deal about Kwasi Enin. If this were a routine or normative occurrence, nothing would have been said. But because it’s so rare – and because it fits the Leftist multicultural ‘narrative’ – they make a big deal about it all.

    • Grantland

I remember some breathless article entitled “African boy harnesses the power of the wind” – Time magazine, I think, when I still read it. Some teen in an African hellhole had built a very crude small windmill with an electric motor powering a light bulb. That’s it.

      • Stan D Mute

Reminds me of the YouTube video news reports on “African Aeronautical Engineers” who have built an airplane or helicopter. You can expect the result of course, but you have to see, SEE, their creations as they attempt to get them to fly. If you’ve not seen this, go right now and google it.

  • MekongDelta69

“His incredible feat beat the odds”

NO it didn’t. And no, it WASN’T ‘incredible.’ The only ‘odds’ were b/c he was black.

How many White kids got 2,400 (equivalent to 1,600 in my day) on the SATs? A LOT. Were they offered admission to ALL the Ivyies? NO.

This was simply a stunt by leftists to see which Ivy could out-grovel the other Ivyies.

    • TXCriollo

A lot of people do one asian kid in my school got like a 1590 and was turned down by Harvard and yale

    • Strike_Team

Beating incredible odds would be a white male student getting a score of 800 on the essay portion of the SAT. It’s well known that this part of the test, graded “objectively”, was created in order for kids to be able to push their race front and center. Woe is me tales of suffering the pain of racism from black, Hispanic, Jewish, Asian, whatever non-white group you can think of, are guaranteed to generate a score far higher than what the student’s writing ability would dictate given neutral subject matter. This isn’t some made up urban legend. Tutors have been instructing kids with the correct “make up” to write essays like this for years.

  • Cannot Tell

One of my white friends scored 2300+ on her SATs when she graduated from high school in 2008. She didn’t get accepted into a single Ivy League school. The unfortunate truth is that this young man’s race probably helped him get in.

I once read an article on how to get accepted into an Ivy League school. I expected a long article instructing students on which AP classes to take and which SAT prep book to use. Instead the article consisted of one sentence worth of accurate advice: Be in the top 10% of your race.

    • dd121

      “Probably helped him”. Ya think?
Even if he goes to medical school, he’s not going to be my doctor. Any black doctor I encounter, I just have to assume that he’s an AA placement.

    • saxonsun

      No “probably” about it.

  • Too bad he didn’t apply to and didn’t get accepted to the University of Miami. For he, too, could have taken his talents to South Beach.

    • bilderbuster

My poor parents are so ashamed that their once proud “Sun Tan U” is famous for the antics of it’s now naturally dark student body.
Even during the 70’s and 80’s the only time one saw the Africans on Miami Beach was if they were pushing a lawn mower.
The buses that came from the mainland in the morning and left in the afternoon filled with the Blacks who had jobs but didn’t live on “The Beach” were referred to as “The Congo Express” by us youngsters.
It’s people resemble a third word country now and not one of the better ones either.

      • Stan D Mute

It’s bad, yes. But look at *how much* worse it gets during Memorial Day weekend or “urban beach week”! On any average day, my family can go enjoy a quiet meal in an outdoor cafe with our dogs on Lincoln Rd. We can shop the Apple store and walk out with a plastic bag containing thousands of dollars in merchandise. No police in sight. It is still civilized. All that changes completely for “urban beach week” when the Beach becomes Detroit. I’ve lived in both. I’ll take the rude and pushy Jews and Russians over the Africans any day. And the contrast of “urban beach week” serves well to illustrate for the gays and Jews who run the political machine what NOT to allow the Beach to become.

        • saxonsun

If you want pushy Russian Jews, go to Brighton Beach in Brooklyn. They think they own the country.

        • bilderbuster

The third world part is more mainland and north of 63rd st. on the Beach.
Many shops and restaurants close for “vacation” during Black Beach and last I heard the NAACP was very upset about that.
Then there was the Black owned hotel scam.
          Remember that one?
There was a Black boycott of Miami because the Cubans snubbed Mandela because of his friend Castro.
Tourism increased because of the boycott LOL!
South Beach should remain in pretty good shape as long as Joe’s is still there and Blacks don’t develop a taste for stone crabs.

          • Stan D Mute

Like Disney, price keeps many of the Africans out of South Beach. This should continue and increase with the latest boom on Brickell (just 5+ years after the latest “bust”!!). Too much money on Fisher, Star, Palm, Hibiscus, and the Beach itself for it to go very wrong. Mid-beach is worse yes. And really up to Surfside isn’t it? But look what’s happened in Sunny Isles and I think we will see mid-beach rising and the undesirables move to the strip between I-95 and the Turnpike (biscayne & 95 further south).

The suddenness of the demarc can be startling. Thinking east of Biscayne vs west of Biscayne from downtown up to Aventura.

Surprising a bit the very rich that will live one guard gate from Africa. Very unlike isolation of Palm Beach island.

          • bilderbuster

It took only a decade for Sunny Isles and N.Miami to go from nice neighborhoods to dark crime hubs but the good folks of Miami Shores are still stubbornly holding on to their territory west of Biscayne Blvd. due to it’s country club.
During the 1980 Black riots in Miami, life on The Beach went on uninterrupted. They just raised the drawbridge at 79th st. and a few cop cars at Venetian was all it took 🙂
Right across the Bay from The Beach is the perfect example of the suddenness of the demarc: Bay Point!
It’s been that way my entire life but that could change for the better if The Design District pans out.
I miss it and still visit but I left for good in 98.
            Good Luck!

He’s a very smart guy. 2,250 on the SAT puts him in the top 1%. He deserves to get in to an elite university. But I did considerably better than him on the SAT, and I didn’t get in to one Ivy League. Obviously just being at the top. Have to also be “diverse”, which I am not.

    • [Guest]

      >>>He deserves to get in to an elite university.

I know that there are intelligent blacks. They are, of course, a small percentage of their race. If he’s successful, fine. BUT I think that I’ll wait for the other shoe to drop on this one.

There’s no doubt he’s a sharp kid. He stands out because he’s black. If he were white or Asian he wouldn’t merit any attention at all. And he would not have been accepted to all eight Ivy League schools. If he were a white male, it’s likely he would not have been accepted to any of them.

  • Bobbala

I wonder how he would have scored on a 1920s junior high test in Kentucky …

  • sbuffalonative

Enin scored 2,250 out of 2,400 on his SAT while many more whites were not admitted while having perfect scores on the SAT.

    • willbest

In fairness, SAT doesn’t measure work ethic, drive, and charisma which are more important to success if you meet the intelligence threshold for whatever occupation. I know quite a few blue collar small business owners with nothing more than a high school degree pulling far more money than the engineer in cubicle #5, and all those guys are far more beneficial to society than the combined work of half of each Ivy league graduating class.

      • Strike_Team

Amongst the white population, I often wonder how many very, very smart people out there don’t even bother to go to college. Either they had no interest in college, or didn’t perform up to their up to potential while in HS because of a lack of parental support or school was boring (because of their intelligence) or other factors. I am convince that the Asian population performs at the very top of their potential, actually over-achieving in many cases, but hey, good for them. But I wonder about whites, whom I think under-perform as a group, and I wonder what these non-collegiate but very smart people are doing, how they’re faring in the anti-white job market in the US.

Then again, there are the smart whites who coast through school, pursue easy subjects as majors in college and the like. We’re a mess in more than a few ways.

        • Stan D Mute

A lot of VERY intelligent white people are ridiculously medicated to deal with depression. The smarter you are, the more f’ed up and hopeless this all seems to be. You are governed, *ruled*, by imbeciles. The overarching aim of the society appears to be destruction of the highest and dilution of the mean by elevation of the lowest. This is pervasive. Corporations are *exactly* like government with a tiny “elite” that got into Harvard or Wharton by legacy admissions ruling the organization designed to drive out the creative intelligent problem solvers. The dysgenic effect is enormous. How many ultra intelligent people even have children?

  • Doomispixulated

Hilarious that this is news all the way over in London. He overcame the odds hahahaha, the overwhelming odds. Hahahahhaha what a joke. Affirmative action had little to do with it. I’m sure it was that stunning piece of literature he produced about his musical genius that sealed the deal.
As Ramzpaul might quote “Wow, just Wow!”

That college essay wouldn’t land a white student in a UC. It was about how music inspires Kwasi, which is probably the most cliche college application essay topic there is. Just by the way he writes I can tell he isn’t very intelligent at all.

  • Malgus

    Breaking News!

A random black kid you’ve never heard of and don’t care about got accepted to all eight Ivy League Universities over genius white kids who busted their butts and got a perfect on the SAT’s. It is widely known that he was chosen because he was black. It is assumed that whichever school he chooses, that school’s administration will certainly make sure that he not only does not fail out, but actually gets straight A’s, no matter the quality of his work or even if he shows up for classes. This will guarantee that he will graduate a total incompetent and enjoy a long and fruitful career in Government.

Now let’s join Bob and take a look at tomorrow’s weather…

Are there any SAT to IQ converters for the 2400 point SAT?

    • Urbane Neanderthal

He’s probably around 140-145 IQ very average by Ivy standards.

      • richard garyson

That seems very high. I have read that after 1994, the SAT does not correspond as well to IQ – so much to the point that Mensa does not use them for admission. Also, the average IQ in Ghana is 70~, so it seems extremely unlikely that anyone of Ghanian descent would have an IQ approaching 140.

        • Urbane Neanderthal

It is extremely unlikely for an African to have an IQ over 130, one in 3.5 million unlikely, over 140 is one in 368 million, but considering there are 900 million sub Saharan Africans there are a few.

You are correct that Mensa does not accept SAT scores, and the reason is because they are not IQ tests, but that does not mean there is no correlation between SAT score and IQ.
The correlation between SAT score and IQ was found to be very high at 0.82 (Frey and Detterman 2004)

The kid is smart, probably in the 140 range, but it’s just a guess.

          • richard garyson

Interesting. I remember reading in Erectus Walks Among Us that the sub-Saharan frequency for a 130 IQ is about 1 out of 44,000 (which implies there are only 22,000 sub-Saharans with IQs of 130 or higher). Where does the one in 3.5 million figure come from?

          • Urbane Neanderthal

If I recall correctly Fuerle cited studies of American blacks and those studies assumed the blacks had the same IQ standard deviations as whites which is not the case.

I do recall for certain that Fuerle cited the number at 0.00044% had IQs over 130.
