‘Race Is Being Looked at’ as a Possible Motive in Attack on Driver in Detroit

Stephanie Gallman and Kevin Conlon, CNN, April 9, 2014

Three suspects were charged Tuesday for their alleged roles in a vicious mob beating of a Detroit tree trimmer after a car accident last week.

Bruce Edward Wimbush Jr., 17, Wonzey Saffold, 30, and James Deontae Davis, 24, are three of the dozen or so people who attacked Steven Utash after he inadvertently struck a 10-year-old boy who had stepped into a road, Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody said.

Utash, a 54-year-old grandfather, immediately stopped his vehicle to help the boy and was allegedly “severely beaten” with “fists and feet,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a news release.

He’s been in a medically induced coma since.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig wouldn’t go so far as to the attack a “hate crime,” but, he said, “the issue of race is being looked at” as a possible motive.

He gave credit to a woman who stepped in as Utash was being attacked, CNN affiliate WDIV reported.

“Just her presence, offering aid to this gentleman, may have saved his life,” Craig said.

She told WDIV that Utash gained consciousness at one point and asked, “Is the boy dead?”

The prosecutor’s office said the boy who was struck by Utash’s truck was taken to a local hospital and treated for a leg injury. Woody said that he was unsure of the extent of the boy’s injuries but that he is at home recovering from the accident.

All three have been charged as adults with assault with intent to murder and assault with intent to do great bodily harm. A fourth suspect, a 16-year-old boy, was also arrested, but prosecutors are still deciding if he will be charged as an adult.

None of the charged suspects are believed to be related or linked to the boy or his family, said Jennifer Moreno, a police public information officer. She says the beating was “a spontaneous response.”

But some are asking whether the beating last Wednesday reflects a state of racial tension in the Motor City: Utash is white. The child he hit with his truck is African-American, as are all of this alleged assailants, Moreno said.

Local defense attorney Cliff Woodards II says the lack of outrage in the African-American community reveals hypocrisy among its leaders. “Imagine, though, if this happened to a black tree trimmer who was passing through Roseville?” wrote Woodards, who is African-American, in a Facebook post he titled “Shame On Us.” Roseville is the suburb Utash hails from.

“Al Sharpton would have been on a plane before the man got out of surgery. Local community leaders and pastors would have taken to the airwaves and the pulpits in search of justice for this fallen hero.”

Maybe the tide is turning for a change. Im still very cautious of the establishment right playbook.
“Their” message can be clearly evidenced by american thinker. It started off as a good siteand then increasingly rolled out the same talking heads visible on FNC every night.
Any website that has internet ads, the usual suspects, articles from a gay guy, and a right hand brutha is certainly following a pattern.

All this is to say is, be leery of the Rino Right! If they win the midterms and nothing changes with regards to “OUR” situation, then you know that the elites dont give a d*m about preserving America. Only about keeping the peace!

The tide aint changing. How many of these beatings are there? They are nightly, aren’t they? They keep Amren and NewNation in business.
The only tide that changed is that it now comes in a bottle instead of a box.

There’s a ghetto epidemic of stealing Tide liquid laundry detergent. It has become a medium exchange in the drug trade in Bell Curve City.

If the savage beating and stomping of yet another White person by the Africans must pass another weighty politically correct “debate” to determine that the motivation was race, perhaps a determination should be made as to whether White people have taken leave of the good sense that God gave them.

  • Jesse James

Ha ha ha, “a possible motive”?

  • Pro_Whitey

My take away is, never stop, no matter how bad it looks later.

    • MBlanc46

And remember Mr. Utash’s name so that you can refer to this case when you explain why you didn’t stop.

  • foundingstockcracker

For some odd reason, that things lips reminded me of the ass on a Baboon.

This story is basically a microcosm of the USA; a White man attempts to help a black and is beaten nearly to death for his efforts.

  • D.B. Cooper

Has ANY black police chief ever charged ANY blacks with a hate crime? EVER?

    • Nathanwartooth

Blacks do get charged with hate crimes, but ONLY if they admit to it.

As long as they play dumb and say that they didn’t do it because he was white, they wont be charged with a hate crime. So basically if they get a lawyer before they talk to the police, they wont be charged with a hate crime.

The other night that same network almost made me puke when the co host (white woman) was comparing this gang beating of a white man by blacks to a mob of college kids raising Hell after a final four basketball game. The talking head said something like “it’s pretty hypocritical that when this incident in Detroit happened people automatically assumed it was racial and in Arizona no one mentioned race”. Something to that effect. Libtarded media bias.

  • FozzieT

“Jennifer Moreno, a police public information officer…. says the beating was “a spontaneous response.”

    Spontaneous blackness in action.

    • A Freespeechzone

If the races were reversed, the police, media, politicians and Obama would demand that the incident be considered a race crime and be prosecuted as such.

The value of a White life is diminishing under Obama…and will continue to do so until people seriously take personal protection as necessary for survival.

      No apologies.

    • Luca

But only a spontaneous response that might be appropriate for the mentally ill, psychopaths or feral sub-Saharans.

Not the kind of response one would expect from normal civilized human beings.

    • Dale McNamee

      ” Spontaneous blackness “… That’s a great one, Fozzie T !

‘Race Is Being Looked at’ as a Possible Motive in Attack on Driver in Detroit”

Breaking News: Tidal waves may bring moisture!

I really don’t know that motive is important here. The result of these punks’ handiwork is clear for all to see. There’s video of them administering the beating to Mr. Utash. All those involved in it need to be permanently removed from society, regardless of their motive.

    • A Freespeechzone

Eliminated would be more permanent and beneficial to society.

  • A few days later in Dirt-Rot, there was a similar crime, a black mob beating at a gas station, and the victim, an upper middle aged black man, ended up dying.

There are so many of these crimes that are hate crimes, racially motivated. I happen to think this one may not actually be racially motivated. It may have been just a matter of opportunistic blacks striking at a known and convenient target.

I say that, then actual evidence of racial animus will be uncovered, (the one time the cops bother looking), and I’ll look stupid for what I just said.

  • Make an example of him display him in a walk of shame in the media and repeat and add race hate will not be tolerated in any form

  • clemensb

Maybe it was in response to a rude and disgusting video.

  • Bartek

The last Republican President had more token Blacks on his staff then this Black President has.
What makes you think a Repuublican would actually reconsider their lack of support and concern towards the White people who vote for them?

  • [Guest]

    >>> …a woman who stepped in as Utash was being attacked….

Yes, and this woman is being pushed as near the center of the story as possible only because she’s black. The goal is to put the face of supposed black heroism on an event that should be all about black savagery.

  • Since no police officers were present as witnesses, how could this Jennifer Moreno public information (read “propaganda”) officer possibly know whether this vicious beat-down was a “spontaneous response”?

  • Ograf

Those people are dim witted and highly excitable. By the time they realized the violence of the car accident and saw a White man trying to help they all went ballistic and realized (in their simple way of thinking) they maybe could beat a White guy up and get away with it. The fact there is a lack of response from the media and the White community will only encourage the violence to escalate and worsen. We need to have a million man march to say no more genocide will be tolerated on our people. And back it up.

  • Absence of evidence is never evidence of absence.
