Wales’ Foreign-Born Population Rises by 82 Percent in 10 Years

BBC News, March 4, 2014

Wales’ foreign-born population rose by 82 percent in 10 years, new figures show.

Polish-born people represent Wales’ largest migrant group during the decade up to 2011.

The figures from Oxford University’s Migration Observatory showed the number of migrants living in Wales has soared in recent years.

The population of Wales in 2011 was 3,063,456, with about 167,871 of those born outside the UK.

Merthyr Tydfil saw its migrant population rocket by 227% during the 10 years to 2011—from just 807 non-UK residents in 2001 to 2,641 by 2011.

Senior researcher Dr Carlos Vargas-Silva said: “The biggest change has been the increase in the Polish-born population, which increased more than twenty-fold, becoming the biggest migrant group in Wales.

“This has been particularly apparent in Merthyr Tydfil which saw the second largest percentage increase in its migrant population of anywhere in Great Britain.”

Wrexham, Swansea and Newport saw their migrant populations more than double in the same period.

Cardiff had Wales’ highest migrant population at 45,967—an increase of 99% during the 10 years under scrutiny, while Blaenau Gwent had Wales’ smallest foreign-born population at just 1,502.

‘Significant’ increase

According to the report 95% of Polish-born migrants in Wales have arrived since 2001. By 2011 there were 18,023 Polish-born residents, while 10 years previously there were 1,427.

Jolanta Atkinson, chair of the Anglo-Polish Society for Chester and North Wales, has lived in Wales for 40 years.

She said: “When I first came to Bangor, all those years ago, I was the only Polish person. Now it’s a very big community.

“I can see the difference over the last 10 years, where people can speak English now and they send their children to the local school, and they are helping the economy by working and paying taxes.

“The majority are young people who are willing to work hard and bring up their families in Wales.”

She said the chance of greater opportunities for work was the main reason for people wanting to live in Wales.

She added: “Wales is very welcoming and I know people who have praised it as a fabulous country, and they really mean it.

“I’m Polish, my husband is English, but my two children are definitely Welsh.”

The number of Welsh residents born in Ireland was 12,175 in 2011, while 11,874 were born in India.

While Wales saw its migrant population increase more than England and Northern Ireland it still had the smallest proportion of migrants of all the UK nations.

The proportion of foreign-born people in Wales was 5.5%, making it smaller than England (13.8%), Scotland (7%) and Northern Ireland (6.6%).

“Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” This is not a coincidence. This is all part of the globalist strategy to reduce whites to minorities in their own countries. Mass 3rd world immigration is the ethnic cleansing and race replacement of whites.

    • wildfirexx

Yes, but with the exception of the Indians, the Irish and the poles are obviously white.

  • Spartacus

Did anyone bother asking the Welsh whether they agree with this ? No ? Thought so…

Either do voters in a bogus ‘democracy.’

    • Lagerstrom

They didn’t ask the Welsh because they knew what the answer would be. Then, when a Welsh native objects, they’re just called a big fascistnazibigothomo/islamophobic big racist barrstard!
      Easy.

She is Polish, her husband is English, but her children are definitely Welsh. I don’t know how that works. Don’t get me wrong – I’d far rather have Poles in Wales rather than Africans bu

As far as I am aware the future of the Welsh language at present is quite positive. I believe young people are far more likely to speak it than older people. It’s certainly in much better shape than the Irish language.

How about the Eisteddfod being held in Urdu with the Druids break-dancing around a Chinese Dragon?

    • gemjunior

People will think such a thing is an absurd proposition, but it is actually the best analogy I’ve heard to try and explain what is going on.

      Translation from the old Welsh:
      Eistedd: Ethnic
      Fod: Multicultural talent-contest,
Semi-based on The Goodies Welsh football playing Druid episode from long ago in the 70s.

I don’t have anything against Poles, but I think they should stay in Poland and deal with their problems in their own country.

“Polish-born people represent Wales’ largest migrant group during the decade up to 2011.” Why is the birth rate so low in Poland, like 1.35, but much higher in the UK, around 2.00? The Polish did not welcome German inhabitants in Silesia or Pomerania, so they might have a clue on how the Welsh could feel.

The Polish did not welcome German inhabitants in Silesia or Pomerania, so they might have a clue on how the Welsh could feel.

I get the distinct impression that Poles care only about Poles.

        • Ella

It would not be so irritating if they hired more locals instead of favouring Polish hires as I read from previous articles. This is where conflict becomes inevitable.

  • Diana Moon Glampers

While I sympathize with the Welsh, I will trade our immigrants for theirs any day.

  • IstvanIN

A Pole could marry into a Welsh family and eventually become, over generations and picking up traditional Welsh names, Welsh, but let us be serious, foreign born is one thing how many descendents of the foreign born are there? How much of the populations is at least 50% Welsh and ALL White?

Wales is a VERY small principality on a small island that could easily be wiped out by non-British immigration.

  • Long Live Dixie

    “Wales is very welcoming . . ..”

The sure sign of a country that does not wish to survive.

  • Long Live Dixie

According to Wikipedia, Poland is 96.5% Polish. Why are Poles leaving their ethnically homogeneous country to swamp Wales and other Western countries that were already overrun with Third World immigrants?

    • wildfirexx

probably because their part of the EU, and have a better standard of living!

    • DudeWheresMyCountry?

A friend of mine who is German and in his seventies who grew up in Berlin tells me going from Germany to Poland is like going from The US to Mexico in many ways. Poland is a second-world country but they have access to a first-world country… that about sums it up.

      • shmo123

In some ways perhaps. Warsaw, for example, is hardly a third world city–it’s lively, clean, historic and growing. It’s come a long way since the Germans left it a smoldering pile of rubble. I can’t think of a third world country that would have determination, technical knowledge and wherewithal to do the same thing.

In defense of the Poles, one has to remember that they have only been masters of their own fate for about 40 of the last 220 years. From their final dismemberment in 1795, to the end of the communist stranglehold, they were subject to the worst of European history– a divided land, foreign rule, subjugation, deportation, gulags, destruction of their cities, the slaughter of the intelligentsia, denial of education and on and on. Yet, to many people, they are held to the same standards as their richer neighbors, who look upon their shortcomings in business, finance etc. as failures. Same game, different set of rules.
Finally, if Poles are in the UK in the numbers often repeated in the press, it is surely because the draw is the same that has led countless millions of others to do the same throughout history– economic benefit. If you join a club whose members have vast economic disparities, it’s only natural that the poorer will migrate to where they can do better. That’s human nature. Maybe there are too many of them in the UK and Wales, but despite the numerous troubles that initially occur from such migrations, I have no doubt that the UK will see much higher benefits from the Polish population (and other Europeans) than they will ever get from Somalis, Pakistanis, and Nigerians.

  • bubo

There are Somalis in Wales too. In fact they’ve been bringing in since the early 1900’s. Seven or more generations and they haven’t come close to assimilating and still speak with a heavy accent.

    • Lagerstrom

The Somali dystopia; spreading the joy since Nineteen-something.

      • William Krapek

        Funny.

        🙂

  • wildfirexx

I agree, they are more than welcome to come to North America which is more European diverse, however it’s no always fair when one distinct white group of peoples moves into another distinct white group’s homeland like Britain, and overwhelm them in numbers. The Polish probably felt the same way about the German’s at one point, and vice- versa.

  • William Krapek

I’d take White people all day every day. Bring’m on.

  • Truth Teller

They invited it by giving them welfare. It’s human nature to take advantage of other people and only an idiot doesn’t know this.

  • Cid Campeador

Hey. Poles are White. Welfare is the Zeitgeist in W. Europe. That’s why the Ukraine wants to join the EU. Pretty soon Sub-Saharans will be headed for Ukraine along with Middle Easterners and “la mierda se chocará con los ventiladores”.

  • DudeWheresMyCountry?

When I lived in England in the 1990s I was able to visit Wales, a truly beautiful nation culturally and geographically. Walking around in Cardiff still had a very small village of yore feeling… I didn’t notice any non-Whites really, nothing like how London was even back then. The West is being destroyed. We are all lumped as White people. We have so much genetic and cultural diversity in our own race. We don’t need them. They need us. Call the orks on this and when they get upset tell them, prove me wrong! The facts are on our side. Nothing else other than ourselves is.
