Richard Sherman: ‘Thug’ Is Accepted Way of Calling Someone N-Word

Ryan Wilson, CBS Sports, January 22, 2014

Richard Sherman’s post-game rant Sunday night has overshadowed every other Super Bowl storyline, even the ones involving Peyton Manning’s relative struggles in the postseason and/or cold weather.

{snip}

On Monday, Sherman, writing for TheMMQB.com, explained that while family and friends congratulated him on the victory, “Many of my Twitter mentions were less supportive,” which is about as diplomatically as you can put it. He has since apologized for making the moments following the game about himself and not his teammates.

During a Wednesday press conference, Sherman was asked if “thug,” a word that was used often on message boards and social media to describe the Seahawks cornerback, bothers him more than any other term.

“The reason it bothers me is because it seems like it’s an accepted way of calling somebody the N-word now,” he said. “It’s like everybody else said the N-word and then they say ‘thug’ and that’s fine. It kind of takes me aback and it’s kind of disappointing because they know.

“What’s the definition of a thug? Really? Can a guy on a football field just talking to people [be a thug?] . . . There was a hockey game where they didn’t even play hockey! (Laughter from the media) They just threw the puck aside and started fighting. I saw that and said, ‘Ah, man, I’m the thug? What’s going on here?'” (More laughter from the media). So I’m really disappointed in being called a thug,” he said.

{snip}

Deadspin notes that the word “thug” was uttered 625 times on American television the day following the Seahawks’ win. That’s more than any other single day in the last three years.

    Football cliche:
The best defense is a good offense.
Sherman made white people the villain.

    • Maybe he earned those grades?

  • Herman

Don’t forget Sherman was a straight A “student” from Stanford.
Makes me sort of wonder that Stanford’s marginal students are like.
    Stanford has to be embarrassed.
Affirmative Action at its’ best. Or should I say worst.

    • Like most schools with big time sports programs, there are special course books for the athletes that aren’t available for regular students.

      • dodger

We have plenty of no-can-fail-courses in the UK for the revered ones. How about the US?

    • ncpride

I saw on some other articles he has a ‘degree’ in communications which is supposedly one of the easiest ones to get, only a step above African American studies.

      • DonReynolds

Most are not that interested in scholarship, so we see a lot of HPER (Health, Physical Education, and Recreation)……which is just a weird way of saying “Coach”.

      • r j p

What does a black’s degree in communications course list look like?
I doubt it consists of advanced journalism or communications courses, let alone courses to learn Adobe products.

      • PvtCharlieSlate

That’s probably a degree in “communication studies”.

      • Joe blow

How’s that degree in communications working out for him?

    • Dave4088

Actually there was a mini scandal when Harbaugh was coach involving players taking extremely easy classes to remain eligible. From what I recall Stanford just adopted an SEC light strategy to recruit top players and keep them eligible.

    • Yancy Derringer

Yeah, I saw some of his tweets — gets there/their/they’re wrong, that’s his level.

      • Nathanwartooth

Those mistakes drive me up the wall. But I just learned I was using its and it’s wrong, so I guess I must atone for my sins of incorrect grammar usage.

      • John K

He’s got a PhD in Ebonics.

    • MBlanc46

I suspect that a straight A Stanford aflete is a different animal to a regular Stanford straight A student.

  • Mack0

The usual tactic employed by blacks who make fools of themselves. Drop the accusation of racism and watch white people scatter.

  • Kenner

Pure chimpout— Then he blamed ‘the way it was covered’! Yep, whitey gets blamed again for the crime of ‘noticing’!

  • bubo

He acted like a world class asshole after the game. Like a typical black athlete it was all about him. HE was the best player, not his team. HE made the play. The won because of HIM. He got called on it and the pro black media is scrambling to make excuses for him.

White NFL fans may be clueless about the ongoing destruction of the country but the immediate reaction to those that watched him was overwhelmingly negative. Contrast his reaction to someone like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. Whites don’t like ostentatious boasting in a team arena. Probably has something to do with our history of survival as a group against the long winters for all those millenia.

    • Katherine McChesney

‘He acted like a world class hole after the game. Like a typical black
athlete it was all about him. HE was the best player, not his team. HE
made the play. The won because of HIM.’

That is more proof that blacks have inflated egos instead of high self esteem.

  • dd121

Good, I’m glad we have agreement on that.

  • NeanderthalDNA

Hey Sherm. You’re a THUG. And by that I mean N!&&ER.

  • Druid

Just another black guy shooting his mouth off – nothing to see here, move along…

  • JJCULLEN

I see these savages with “Thug Life” scrawled all over there bodies. We know what they are without using the N-word

  • That’s all the low information undertow could talk about from Sunday until today when Justin Bieber got arrested, this mess.

At first, I didn’t care. I mean, are we supposed to get incensed that some jock all hyped up on his competitive juices that he got the better of another jock, based on a feud between the two of them that went back to some charity golf game? Especially since Richard Sherman wasn’t a state Governor who can command people with badges and guns telling people who disagree with him to get out of his state.

And if Sherman would have left it alone, and shut up about it, and not said anything about it, and not added fuel to the fire, it would have died out. (A lesson I learned the hard way but very well in 2012). But no, he has to go and pull this stunt, and make me, who previously didn’t care about him, start to hate him.

    • dd121

Pure chimpout. It just puts an exclamation point on the perception of negro racial stereotypes. (Go Broncos!)

  • dubyasee

    Boycott the Super Bowl.

    • Eagle_Eyed

Edit: root that Peyton Manning, Eric Decker, and Wes Welker throw it down this “thug’s” throat.

    • dd121

The thing that makes football interesting is the performance of the white athletes. They are the plantation owners; the blacks are just the cotton pickers.

      Go Broncos!

      • Joe blow

No, it’s not the quarterbacks who own the plantation. Twelve of the 36 NFL teams are owned by “you-know-who”.

        • dodger

          The three letter people?

          • Joe blow

You got it…and if you want a REAL eye-opener, they own TWENTY THREE of the 30 NBA teams.

    • MBlanc46

If boycotting it would require that otherwise I’d have watched it, then I can’t boycott it.

  • bigone4u

I’m spending my time on this thread clicking on upvotes since I don’t follow football. I stopped following feetsball when blacks took over and starting doing their stupid end zone dances and giving ignorant post-game interviews spoken in ebonics.

  • sbuffalonative

This follows what I’ve always said.

They keep changing the name we call blacks but each time the new name ends up with the same connotations and they have to come up with a new name.

    Different name, same identifiable behavior.

    • Jesse James

Bingo you captured the essence of this issue. Shakespeare said it, ” A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”

    • Jesse_from_Sweden

Also called “the euphemism treadmill”. Look it up.

  • Eagle_Eyed

Sometimes you gotta call a spade a spade…

  • Massif1

If whites stopped paying for football games – NFL and college, this would never happened.

    • evilsandmich

Then it would be the NBA, where you have to go through an airport screening process to get into the game.

  • Luca

Give them education, give them money and they still can’t help but act like they just stepped out of the jungle.

You can put a suit on a monkey, but it’s still a monkey.

  • ncpride

I saw some black ex football player on the news last night defending this thugs behavior, and at the end of the interview threw out there how sick he is of hearing how great Peyton Manning played. No surprise there. Not much he can say as far as anything negative about a class act like Manning.

    • dd121

The leftist news media is going to circle the wagons and protect their favored class, the negro.

    • Massif1

Peyton Manning is the reason Denver is in Super Bowl. Thug quarterbacks can’t make it until the end.

  • MekongDelta69

    Peyton Manning is class.

But to Sherman, and all people like him, every word is the ‘New N-Word’

[I am SO sick of having to use the phrase – “N-word” on here, when every other derogatory term is accepted. I understand why AmRen is doing it (so we don’t appear to be ‘knuckle-draggers’ to people who visit), but then they/(you) should ban ALL OTHER comparable terms on here – or shorten them to “Something or Other-word”.]

    • Eagle_Eyed

      Niqqer isn’t banned.

    • Katherine McChesney

Perhaps the ‘Mods’ don’t want us to sound like Stormfront or ChimpOut. But, the word should be allowed considering they call us ‘honky’, ‘crackers’, “Whitey’ and “Holmes”. Don’t know the origin of “Holmes”. Perhaps it has a filthy connotation like ‘honky’.

      • Kenner

My comment that used the word ‘ch!mp0ut’ disappeared.

      • MekongDelta69

You mean ‘Homes,’ which is short for ‘Homie’ (as in, livin’ in my ‘hood). They don’t call us that. Mexicans call each other that.

        However, the rest are correct.

    • dd121

      Goddamn right!

  • Dave4088

There is a distinct difference between the white and N word racial mentality as evidenced by Richard Sherman’s conduct.

  • Truthseeker

In my mind, the word “thug” connotes a person who uses bully tactics, such as violence or threats of violence, to get what they want. That’s consistent with the behavior of many blacks. When they get “bored,” they play the Knockout Game. They walk around looking hard or talking big so that people will fear them. The word “thug” fits this type of behavior.

If “thug” becomes the new “n-word,” (i.e. a forbidden term) they are slowly stripping non-blacks of the right to express any discomfort with or disapproval of their behavior. If any blacks take issue with being called “thugs,” they need to look in the mirror.

  • Spartacus

This critter shouldn’t be in White lands, he should be back in the hell-hole that spawned him, eating albinos for magical powers.

  • So CAL Snowman

““The reason it bothers me is because it seems like it’s an accepted way of calling somebody the N-word now,” he said”

Perhaps we should go back to simply using the N-word, then he wouldn’t be so bothered.

  • Lewis33

For years I’ve used “Thug” in polite company. Yes we do use it to mean black and everyone knows exactly what I’m saying when I use it.

    • 48224

Perhaps we should all switch to using “baby dady”

      • r j p

If a young black male isn’t a baby daddy by age 18, does that make him a loser or gay in the black community?

    • r j p

I think everybody knows what I mean when I say I hate Harold Washington Library because there are “young bucks” continually patrolling looking for unattended stuff.

  • Rhialto

I have no clue as to what the rant flap is about, and I don’t care. I stopped watching TV sports, and use the freed up time to read the works of dead White men.

    • IstvanIN

I saw it and couldn’t make heads nor tails of it. I was surprised, however, that he didn’t slug the female sportscaster.

    • Jack Burton

It’s about some self-important Negro not being catered to.

You see as “tough” as the perception is of Negroes, they’re really hypersensitive children who constantly whine and have tantrums when they don’t get what they want.

  • SaggyGenes

Any word used to refer to blacks will eventually become derogatory, simply by association with blacks and their behavior.

When I hear the so-called N-word, I cringe, not because of the “racism,” but because of the mental picture it creates of the worst kind of black.

    • r j p

Come to Chicago — you will see groups of them pretty much anywhere White people in which they might sense there is “opportunity”.

  • Luca

Give them money, give them an education, give them special treatment, expose them to civilization and they still act like they just came out of the jungle.

  • JohnEngelman

When I call someone a ghetto thug I an not referring to someone who lives in a Jewish ghetto, or Chinatown.

    • RisingReich

I still can’t hear you. Please remove the Jewish member from your mouth.

  • IstvanIN

When someone says “thug” the picture that flashes in my mind is some saggy-drawered, weird finger/fist signs black male, so I suppose thug is the new “black”.

    • dd121

No, it’s the new [email protected]@er.

    • evilsandmich

      Don’t forget the gold teef.

  • CharlesFinley

    No, he
    Isn’t a thug. He is a
    Gangster from the
    Ghetto who thinks
Everything is about him. His name is
    Richard
    Sherman

  • DonReynolds

Since when do I need his permission or approval to use ANY WORD. It is a free country as long as I live in it. Once I am dead, they can do whatever they want. Until then, it is still a free country……no matter what this baboon thinks.

    • dd121

I agree. The propaganda has penetrated so deep that even on this white nationalist site you’ll be deleted if you use the real word. Sigh.

      • RisingReich

Can’t even replace the gg with 66. Pansies.

    • Erasmus

But, but, but Sherman went to Stanford, where he studied Communications.

(When my brother told me that, in Sherman’s defense, it was hard not to break out laughing.)

Only afletes and other morons “study” Communications.

      • Ooghammer

        It’s usually “Criminal Justice” .

  • CharlesFinley

  • Extropico

“The reason it bothers me is because it seems like it’s an accepted way of calling somebody the N-word now…”

Same thing when the MSM refers to urban murderers as “teens.” Not that they intended it that way intitially. LOL.

    • angrywhiteman

      or ” urban youts”

  • Max Krakah

What’s wrong with the “old school” term?

  • Max Krakah

Notice how the concept of what a “thug” is ( substitute the correct term please) never changes. It is a reality that almost all perceive, but we are not allowed to let it be known that it was perceived. The fools think that reality can be wished away. IT CAN’T!

  • Max Krakah

past and future felon? Can we use that?

    • r j p

PPFF, Past/Present/Future Felon. You forgot a tense.

  • bilderbuster

    Refer to them as Enwords.
As in: Those enwords don’t like the Tea Party.

  • Ooghammer

What is disturbing to me is how there is such a jump from Sherman’s demeanor in the press conference and the post game thugbuggery that he portrayed . There is little filter involved .

  • Nathanwartooth

Football is dangerous since so many players get brain damage. Let’s shut it down! It is basically the negro league at this point so who cares.

    • MBlanc46

Many of them are brain damaged before they ever play the game.

      • Martel

That is, they suffer from hereditary braindamage

  • MBlanc46

If you don’t want to be called one, don’t act like one.

  • jackryanvb

Just turn away from American football and basketball. Most all other sports are White.

The upcoming Winter Olympics in Russia look to be the 2nd greatest international pro White sporting event in world history.

What’s the name of the sport where very sexy White women cross country ski, then do rifle shooting?

    Biathlon?

Wow! If any of these sexy White Amazon troops attack me in a Nordic winter war zone, I’ll surrender.

    🙂

    • longing4abetterworld

Check out the USA women bobsled team yet? I guess the fantasy Hollywood movie ‘Cool Runnings’ from way back has come to pass once again. That movie, as I recall, had (I think) John Candy as coach of a Jamaican bobsled team. In real life today, there is 1 white woman on the USA bobsled team….3-4 black women, and 1-2 biracial women, one of whom is this Lolo Jones character getting all the press. Well, in this post-racial world, I guess it’s a good thing though: black women have bigger thighs which lend themselves to running short bursts much faster and harder than whites. They’ll probably get a medal or two. But I guess genetics, thigh size and racial realities aren’t allowed to be mentioned, right Jimmy the Greek?

  • Rhialto

I didn’t watch Sherman in action, but many decades ago I played HS football with Blacks. I often witnessed the pathological enthusiasm in Black teammates that Sherman displayed. When Black males succeed, their endocrine systems produce vast quantities of adrenaline and testosterone. This can cause near psychotic behavior When an attractive women is present, this no doubt enhances the symptoms. .

  • Alexandra1973

And just like The En Word, only blacks will be able to say it, but not whites.

  • John R

So is thug now going to become the “T-Word”?

    • r j p

Will coon become the new “C-Word”, or will the feminists claim that?

  • r j p

If he scored a 1400, somebody else took the SAT for him. I never took a test for anyone, but in college I did write papers for others – but not athletes, just lazy people who had to work too and went to “not my school”.

  • serious123

You gotta admit blacks can come up with a new way to whine every day.

  • jackryanvb

The Black comedian Chris Rock had the best, most to the point analysis of the behavior that warrants “the N word”:

    Niggas vs. Black People
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
“Niggas vs. Black People” is the title of one of Chris Rock’s most famous and most controversial stand-up comedy routines. This routine, which appeared as track 12 on his 1997 album, Roll with the New, as well as his 1996 HBO special, Bring the Pain, is widely considered to be the breakthrough routine that established his status as a comedy fixture after he left Saturday Night Live.
Essentially an eight-minute rant about behaviors that Rock sees in a subset of the black community; he describes “niggas” as a cohort whose behavior—which embodies many negative African-American stereotypes—is usually detrimental to the image of other black people. The “niggas,” he said, glorify ignorance and sloth, and brag about fulfilling any minor responsibility. Rock rejects the view that this image of African Americans is purely cultivated by the media. In the routine, he says, “When I go to the money machine tonight, alright, I ain’t looking over my back for the media, I’m looking for niggas! What, you think I’ve got three guns in my house ’cause the media outside?”

    • Alexandra1973

Thing is, though, “niggas” vastly outnumber “black people.”

  • Joe blow

He has a degree in “communication”. How’s that working out?

  • SFLBIB

High profile personalities in the football business better watch out. First there was a push on to make teams change their names. Women have been creeping in to visible positions in covering the games. Huge lawsuits are beginning to emerge. Once these get further along, it will be off to the next concessions that will eventually lead to the end of the sport.

  • evilsandmich

The only thing surprising is that anyone was surprised. Who do they think plays that game?

  • dodger

Warning “T” word on it’s way.

  • Jack Burton

N-word is an acceptable way of calling someone the “n-word,” Negro is an acceptable way of calling someone the n-word, black is an acceptable way of calling an n-word the n-word, get it?

It’s all about context in the end. That’s why blacks call each other the n-word, but it’s not an insult.

You can change the meaning of any word with context and tone. You can insult someone even by saying sir if the tone is hostile.

  • Jack Burton

I can believe he achieved a 4.2 GPA at a black high school where standards are low, and Stanford is explained by affirmative action obviously.

Based on the way he speaks and writes I can tell you he didn’t get 1400 on his SAT, which is genius-level IQ. They really expect us to believe his IQ is 140+?? ROFL.

Now I can see that his vocabulary is beyond your typical thug, so I’d say he’s in the 100-115 IQ range, which is “smart” to them.

  • Jack Burton

LOL, adjusted. That’s quite an adjustment.

That’s an estimated IQ of 110, I can believe that.

  • Yeah, the Vdare article dismantles the whole “he’s a genius” thing.
