4 Suspects Held in Fatal Carjacking at Mall

Michael Schwirtz, New York Times, December 22, 2013

After five tense days and an all-out manhunt, New Jersey authorities announced Saturday that four men had been arrested in the carjacking and fatal shooting of a New Jersey lawyer last weekend.

The 30-year-old victim was killed in front of his wife in the parking garage of a high-end mall, a seemingly random crime that sent shudders through an affluent suburban area where such violence is rare. {snip}

The suspects were identified as Karif Ford, 31, Basim Henry, 32, Kevin Roberts, 33, all of Newark, and Hanif Thompson, 29, of Irvington, N.J. They were charged with murder, carjacking and other crimes. Bail was set at $2 million. Three of the men were arrested at homes in New Jersey. Mr. Henry was arrested at a hotel in Pennsylvania. At least three have extensive arrest records, including for drugs, weapons possession, assault and in Mr. Henry’s case, a bank robbery that led to a seven-year prison sentence. Records show that Mr. Thompson was released from an Essex County jail just days before the carjacking after posting bond for a burglary arrest.

Perps

If convicted, the men face a maximum of life in prison.

Carolyn A. Murray, the acting Essex County prosecutor, said at a news conference that the primary motive was to steal the victim’s vehicle, a Range Rover. {snip}

The victim, Dustin J. Friedland, and his wife, Jamie Schare Friedland, were getting into their Range Rover in a parking garage at the Mall at Short Hills, in Millburn, N.J., around 9 p.m. last Sunday. Mr. Friedland, 30, had just closed the passenger-side door for his wife when two armed men attacked him. Mr. Friedland was shot in the head, and his wife forced out of the vehicle. Two men sped away in the Range Rover and two others left in a Chevrolet Suburban, the S.U.V. that all four men had arrived in, Ms. Murray said.

{snip}

Mr. Fishman said the arrests were made possible in part because of the creation several years ago of a task force to combat what he called an “epidemic of carjackings” in Essex County. So far this year, there have been 450 carjackings in the county, compared with 200 in 2009, said Katherine Carter, the spokeswoman for the county prosecutor’s office. In August, the county began erecting billboards with the photos of convicted carjackers along with their lengthy prison sentences and slogans like: “Carjackers, your long-term parking spot awaits.”

{snip}

The Friedlands met at Syracuse University’s law school and married shortly after graduation. Mr. Friedland was a project manager at his family’s air-conditioning company. Two months ago, the couple bought a home in Hoboken, N.J., and relatives said they were planning to start a family.

Why do they keep letting them out? The only thing that reliably reduces recidivism is age.

    • JukeJointJimmee

      So does a rope.

      • mgs166

        It does indeed.

      • Rope is a great tool. Raises a pail out of a well, with a pulley it allows you to lift many times your weight, component of tug-of-war contest. a pastime to skip or exercise with, ……. a judge.

    • Massif1

New Jersey even has a program to “rehabilitate” blacks coming out of jails. I guess it doesn’t work.

      • nick

are not we as a society in some way all guilty of this crime ? did not each of us in our tainted culture participate in this crime?

        • DonReynolds

No…..fortunately, I never met any of them. They did the crime, they need to hang for it.

        • QuinnTheEskimo9

          Nope.

You are either a troll or a brainwashed fool.

        • refocus

A long time ago… way way back in the 1950s the State of Texas had law that called for the execution of habitual criminals. Habitual was defined as three felony convictions.

    • Luca

They keep letting them out to perpetuate job security for the lawyers, judges and prison guard’s union. It’s a thriving industry.

As usual, they couldn’t care less about the impact on the White, Christian, middle-class society. Money is money.

    • Lagerstrom

Why do they keep letting ‘them’ out?
I’ll give you one guess John.

With blacks, even age doesn’t stop recidivism. Really look at the pictures of black criminals in various news reports. You’ll notice quite a few who are middle aged and up.

  • John Smith

Well at least the courts can’t be accused of racism since these “young men” weren’t locked up despite their extensive criminal histories.

Four more feral african killers with cold, dead, lifeless eyes.

    • mgs166

The mind of an animal resides behind those eyes.

      • Mike Conrad

Nonsense. Animals never kill for sport, or for fun, or for bragging rights, or to steal Range Rovers.

        • mgs166

Nonsense. They kill for “fun.” The death of the “play” animal is incidental. A cat will kill a mouse in the course of “playing” with it while having no intention of consuming it once it is dead. They will kill rivals for dominance. They will kill others of their kind in order to steal food. However, you’re correct in saying that they don’t kill to steal shoes. However, they will kill rivals in order to secure “better” hunting grounds for themselves.

          • IstvanIN

Animals are soulless, as are these “people”. And that is the difference. There is no guilt, or remorse, or sense of shame.

CNN didn’t even have their mugshots on their website. The political correctness around black criminality is insane. White people have to fear tax increases and blacks. By the way, taxes are only going up to support blacks and browns around this country.

    • John R

And the Republicans fight the Democrats tooth and nail to keep taxes down, but do nothing about the mestizo invasion, or the negro insurrection going on in this country.

      • Sick of it

John, the Republicans are currently making deals to keep us squeezed dry of cash to support unsustainable welfare programs. They are no longer the party of fiscal conservatives, social conservatives, or religious conservatives.

    • bigone4u

I wish somebody at Amren would write an open letter to CNN and the MSM about their PC insanity. CNN can’t be making a profit with its loss of viewers, so who is subsidizing those losses in order to influence the narrative. I’ll bet most of us here at Amren know where the subsidies are coming from.

Yes, fellow readers. I share your outrage at these individuals who committed this horrible crime. My heart goes out to this victim’s family. I mean them no disrespect when I use this horrible event in their lives to make my point: That I am just SICK AND TIRED of hearing how “unfair” the system is to “African Americans”! These, I won’t use the word, have already received parole for past crimes! And they escalated to this! Sorry, too angry….if I wrote what I really thought, I would be banned from this site, and the FBI would probably be investigating me. I’ll write more when I calm down, peace.

    • DonReynolds

Merry Christmas, John, to you and your family.

  • MBlanc46

“Extensive arrest records”. It’s the same old story, over and over and over again. Drug possession, weapons possession, assault, burglary, armed robbery, even, in this case, bank robbery. The perps get a few years of incarceration and then they’re back out on the streets committing more crimes, until they finally commit one that gets enough attention that perhaps, just perhaps, will get them put away for good,.

    • Laura Dilworth

they probably got away with alot of crimes before they got caught

      • That is a known fact about people that graduate to this level of crime.
They are criminals. That’s why they do 5 years for possession. DA can’t prove one charge but agrees to drop murder charge for a plea.

        • IstvanIN

There are “people” who prove at a very young age that they should be executed. Some by 10 or 12, but certainly less than 16.

          • MBlanc46

There are certainly individuals–many of them black–who give convincing evidence that they’re going to be career criminals by the time that they’re in their mid-teens. And, more and more, by they time they’re 12 or 13. Once that becomes clear, they should be off the streets. Permanently.

        • DonReynolds

I still believe exile is the best solution for career criminals. If we cannot be done with them, at least get them out of society. Give them a choice…..permanent exile or long-term incarceration. Where they go does not matter, they simply cannot come back…..not ever, even to be buried. Hand them a pink passport, never to return. If they slip back in, it is summary execution by the police at the airport. I would call it suicide.

          • John R

First, thank you for all the “thumbs up” to many of my comments; I appreciate it. Second, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! Now, finally, yes, while I agree with you on principle about exile for our feral negro criminal element, I must respectfully point out, that, at the present time, our government can’t even find the will to exile millions of non-whites who are in this country ILLEGALLY! That would be my logical first step: Just enforce the immigration laws that we already have. That shouldn’t even be a controversy. THEN we can decide on what to do with the problems caused by our “fellow citizens” (note the quotation marks.) Thanks again, and God bless!

    • jane johnson

I’m sure that they had extensive juvenile records, too, which were “sealed” when they turned 18. Sounds like that “school to prison pipeline” needs a check valve installed. Any plumbers out there?

Maybe they should be beheaded, and not with a guillotine, but a sword or better yet, an axe. Let an executioner chop off their heads the way a lumberjack chops down trees, then show a video of their deaths to the other prisoners.

      • DonReynolds

No…..I would have the entire prison population witness the execution, in person. This is war.

        • refocus

They should be executed on the field of a sports stadium after playing a video of their crimes in front of all the citizens who want to watch. Some school age people should be forced to attend.

Perhaps a rock band could warm up the crowd and a comedian like Dave Chappelle could make some mocking snippets at the condemned, “See what happens to you when you do that !!!” He could conduct a lottery as to which criminal gets his head chopped off first. Make them watch their brother s e p a r a t e.

Then let everyone who wants a closer look walk past the basket holding the severed heads.

The concessionaires can sell popcorn and toy guillotines, making money off of the spectacle to keep the economy going. A new form of bread and circus.

Or, even better: “Strange fruit” hanging out in front of the criminal courthouses.

“If convicted, the men face a maximum of life in prison.”

What a joke. They will be heroes in prison, killing a White guy and all.
They might even kill (or violate in worse ways) some White college kid in prison for the big, bad crime of selling pot. The only punishment for this crime is a quick, cheap, efficient, and unceremonious execution.

  • bigone4u

Think about how dumbed down these vermin are. In the old days, a car thief would have the knowledge to hot wire a parked car and drive off with it. Now the morons are so stupid that they have to beat or kill someone for the keys. And it takes four of them to do it. In the south, this would be capital murder, but in New Joisie, they’ll be out on parole in 15 I fear.

  • Ograf

    Soulless beasts, all.

  • Strike_Team

Aware whites know why these criminals keep getting out. Aware whites know who perverted our justice system, who skewed laws into instruments of obfuscation, who insists that there should be word play with the law. Aware whites know who is behind this, and that incidents like this are the intent of having our laws perverted.

I don’t anyone doubted for a second, the very second they heard or saw this story, that the pics of the criminals would resemble the pics we see of an NFL backfield these days. So much of it is in the eyes. So many of these “people” have dead eyes, in person their inborn stupidity seems to add some sort of scum over their eyes, their eyes are very dull looking in person. Yes, dull, deadly eyes in dull, deadly people. Jail doesn’t worry animals like this. They don’t care. They really don’t for the most part. They might cry and wail behind the scenes if they’re up for the death penalty (which they won’t be in NJ), but otherwise, it’s just fun and games and good time rapes of the small prisoners, the small prisoners who won’t fight back that is. It’s like endless summer camp for these animals because they are so very stupid.

    • AutomaticSlim

“Jail doesn’t worry animals like this.”

Agreed. They seem to almost chomp at the bit to go to prison and practice degenerate sodomy. I have said it before and will say it again. Blacks are the
most homosexual race on the planet.

      • Strike_Team

In CA prisons, that is true. The latinos are right behind them. I would like to point out that I believe those two groups, blacks and latinos (mestizos, Indios) have higher rates of homosexuality, percentage wise, than other groups. And I mean on the streets. Percentage wise, there are more homosexual transvestites from these groups for example. That’s what you see on the streets, even if these people are not the majority in a given area. And I believe that most of the time, homosexual behavior is genetic in origin.

These two groups are really into “it” in the prisons, though they try to deny this fact. While stories about prison rape are exaggerated for the general public, most of perps are black, then latino, and most of the time they prey on their own, despite all the stories to the contrary the usual suspects put out there. I suspect the folks in charge are indulging in fantasies of their own when they make up those stories about whites being targeted constantly and so on. Yes, very small, weak individuals have a much higher chance of running into trouble. But the truth of the matter is that there are so many jailhouse queens that there isn’t much of a need to go and rape someone. Ask people who have been to prison for real. Not fakers, b.s. artists, big talkers. If anyone here at Amren has been to prison for real, chime in.

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

Well, Thank God NJ has such strict gun laws that prevent citizens from possessing guns, otherwise someone might have gotten hurt.

And, thankfully, in 2007, Corzine abolished the cruel, unusual and barbaric death penalty and commuted all death sentences to life imprisonment.

  • TonyWestfield

CR, I’ve only recently come upon the answer to your first question. It’s a cruel example of unintended consequences: Anti-theft technology makes it harder and harder to steal vehicles the old-fashion way, i.e., to outsmart the locked doors and then hot-wire the ignition. So, despite the risks involved with confronting the driver (who could be armed, even in States that love to disarm honest citizens) and despite the risk of longer prison terms for harming the driver or other persons, the genius-types who steal cars have decided it’s easier to take control by directly confronting the person holding the keys, sometimes when the vehicle’s engine is already running.

As to your second question about why “they have to kill people” in the process, they certainly don’t “have to” fire the weapon, but the thief has little to do in life except sit around and work out the strategies. Shoot to discourage or eliminate resistance. Shoot to eliminate witnesses. The non-strategic choice to fire the weapon could emerge from the confusion of the moment (nerves, etc.). But my preferred explanation is their malice: They shoot because they want to. The shooter has a story in his head about who’s who in this world–even respected religious leaders and politicians help to foment hatred about “the one percent” or “the privileged” or “the haves and have nots”–so the shooter thinks he’s getting revenge or he’s “righting wrongs” or some such nonsense.

Interesting things going on here in New Jersey.

New Jersey is a flat out police state. The cops here are tough, ruthless, well trained and don’t take anything even remotely in the way of crap from anyone. Judges here are maniacal and power mad. In New Jersey, if yo don’t live in a lawless area like Camden, you behave yourself….and that is all there is to it. Police here don’t carry tasers (illegal). They will shoot you if you sneeze at the wrong time. And it is understood by EVERYONE, that occasionally, “law enforcement” involves scumbags leaving in the trunk of a police car, not the back.

That’s why I rarely see any but the most well-groomed blacks. Occasionally, I’ll see street scum….never for long. The cops arrest them on sight.

Very heavy contrast living here since I moved from Chicago. Both places, it is flat out illegal to carry a gun. Yet, I carried one everywhere in Chicago, no exceptions. I’ve literally talked to Chicago police half a dozen times carrying an illegal concealed gun and not sweated it. Hell, I’ve gone out drinking with Chicago cops and basically admitted I was illegal carrying and never worried about it (yeah…don’t ever, ever, ever do that….young, dumb and full of……..is what I was).

I don’t dare do that in New Jersey. Sure….my home is an armed fortress and the very minute CC is legalized here. But never illegally. You don’t dare. And you really don’t need to if you simply stay out of the special lawless zones.

But things have changed in the last ten years. Alot more guns being sold. New gun sellers popping up. Ammo is scarce and not because it is in short supply, demand has gone up by a huge amount. My range is crowded. Classes I take to keep my ability to kill with a gun sharp, are full. Nobody looks at me strange when I talk about things like simunition or live target training or Close Quarters Combat with a gun.

My point. If ultra-liberal New Jersey is now filled with people desperate to not only own guns but be good with them, what does this say about white tolerance of black crime in the US.

yes, the article outlined the incident fairly well. This also happens in the US as well. I have read more than one article where black teens rape a white girl and receive only a short sentence in juvenile hall. After less than a year, the are allowed to return to the same high school that the victim attends. In the meantime, the female white victims are terrorized by black classmates for “lying”.
