Religious Minorities Face Fight-or-Flight Choice as Quebec Values Charter Released

Nelson Wyatt and Peter Rakobowchuk, Yahoo! News, September 11, 2013

The choices for Quebec’s observant religious minorities now seem to boil down to fight or flight with the release of details of Quebec’s proposed charter of values.

It bans religious symbols from the public service and would forbid employees from wearing such garments as the hijab, turban and kippa.

Compliance is another option, but not for Diaa Quarmauch, a Muslim woman who came to Canada from Morocco. Forget about asking her to remove her hijab.

“I will never change,” the 34-year-old said Tuesday. “I will never take it off. I think the Muslims will leave Canada before they take off their veils.”

Although religious minorities are open to debating the charter, the tone was more defiant on Tuesday.

Demonstrations are slated for later this week and a Muslim leader said his group is ready to go to court if necessary.

“I promise you, if this becomes law, we will help anyone to challenge this law all the way to the Supreme Court if we have to,” said Salam Elmenyawi, president of the Muslim Council of Montreal.

The so-called “values charter” announced by the government would impose broad restrictions, unique in North America, on religious clothing for employees in all public sector institutions including schools, hospitals and courts.

While the cross above Montreal’s Mount Royal and the crucifix in the legislature are OK because they are considered part of the province’s heritage, government employees wearing a crucifix would have to conceal it. Religious headgear such as hijabs, burkas, kippas, veils and turbans would also be forbidden.

Seems the idea might be better than I thought when I first read about it .

Ok, Diaa–buh bye! Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!

I know Muslims have been a big problem for Quebec; I hope this turns out well, i.e., Muslims get out of Montreal and Quebec province and stay out!

      Au revoir!

    • Jacobite2

Yeah. And where do you think all those Mohammedans will be heading? Dearbornistan?

      • WASP

I wouldn’t wish this Muslim plaque on anyone. Our traitorous government will not acknowledge the dangers of the Muslim Brotherhood (establishment of a global caliphate under Sharia law). Obama and his lefties are useful idiots to them. Muslims eat away at societies gradually from within to establish Islamic states. I don’t believe there’s any such thing as a moderate Muslim; if that exists, it’s rare indeed.

Now does everyone understand why it’s bad to let Muslims into non-Muslim societies?

Great! Please leave. And good riddance to all of you. Your bizarre eighth century customs don’t belong in the Western world. If your men are so overtaken with sexual passions at the sight of a little hair then maybe you don’t belong here. And our women aren’t interested in your adopting your bizarre attire choices just to keep them in check.
I Just saw an Allah worshipper the other day with a head rag and gave her a dirty look.

Laughing and pointing is also effective.

Or if you have a towel or something similar handy, drape it over your head in a sarcastic manner and just look at them…

Many orthodox religions wear headgear which is more symbolic than functional. Yamulkes. The small bonnets Mennonite women wear. Even the younger Sikhs wear more limited headgear. The Muslims will not submit to the authority of this idea because it means that they acknowledge that their religion is exactly that, their religion, existing along with all others.

Affinity-based ommunities which wear more idiosyncratic clothing, like the Hasidic Jews or the Amish, do not exactly aspire to taking over the world. More to the point, they know that they will suffer certain limitations because of their lifestyle choice, and accept these as part of their spiritual discipline.

Quick! Expand the law – a remedy for this insanity is at hand.

That’s all it would take? Hot damn! We need to roll that law out in the states, pronto. Sheet heads.

Just don’t send this vermin south to the US!

    Quebec for the Quebecois!

Let’s hope they choose flights out of Canada.

    No they won’t.

The ninja costumes, pull starts and push buttons will never leave!!!. Neither will any foreigners in any created or ancestral white homeland (Europe) . If northern haji go anywhere , it will be across our northern border!!! 2 millennia ago, the Arabs cousins started creeping into Southern Europe and have never stopped. There’s an obvious reason why Europe is the most fought over land in all of human history. Once you bring them in, they never leave. Africans are still in the new world after 400 yrs. Doesn’t mean a hill of beans that they’ve been free for a hundred and fifty yrs

    • Sick of it

Oh they do leave, but only if you kick them out.

      • Romulus

        Someday.

A crucifix should not be unlawful to wear to work in a Canadian government office.

“I promise you, if this becomes law, we will help anyone to challenge this law all the way to the Supreme Court if we have to,” said Salam Elmenyawi, president of the Muslim Council of Montreal.

If that happens and the courts overturn, perhaps it will be the proverbial back-breaking straw that finally convinces Quebec to secede. The last independence referendum got something like 49.3% of the vote; very few minds would have to change for the next one to pass.

  • There’s more chance of me doing the hokey-cokey in a polka-dot bikini whilst back-flipping around the surface of the moon than there is of a Muslim exodus from Canada, especially of their own free will.

More melodramatics from the usual quarters I suppose, but hey, why would they break a winning formula?

The other side are ramping up their liberal fascism of ‘multiracial not multicultural’ conformity too, it seems, a bit like David Cameron’s “Muscular liberalism” I suppose- as though ‘shared values’ and banishing clothing items and stuff like that will solve the fundamental problems of what will ultimately happen in the future.

A world-wide caliphate is their goal. “How long must I suffer these infidels”?

I prefer “Mange le merde!” in this case.

Hmmmm, apparently, Disqis hasn’t got “le filter Francaise.”

  • shmo123

I hope they leave Canada, and sincerely hope they don’t come here.

I suggest that we all pitch in for a very large, very leaky steamer ship to take the ‘poor, oppressed’, bloodthirsty and rapey Muslims back to their desert paradises.

    Adieu!

Je suis desole. My French is rudimentary at best.

  • “I think the Muslims will leave Canada before they take off their veils.”

Can we get something a little more certain to that effect, perhaps even in writing? Please?
