Obama Adds to List of Illegal Immigrants Not to Deport: Parents

Stephen Dinan, Washington Times, August 23, 2013

The Obama administration issued a policy late last week telling immigration agents to try not to arrest and deport illegal immigrant parents of minor children—a move that adds to the categories of people the administration is trying not to deport.

In a nine-page memo issued Friday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said agents should use “prosecutorial discretion” to try to avoid detaining parents and, if parents are detained, agents should make sure they have the ability to visit with their children or participate in family court proceedings.

The move won praise from immigrant rights groups who said it’s a step toward a kinder detention policy. But a top Republican blasted the memo as another effort by the Obama administration to circumvent the law.

“President Obama has once again abused his authority and unilaterally refused to enforce our current immigration laws by directing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to stop removing broad categories of unlawful immigrants,” said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, Virginia Republican.

Mr. Goodlatte, whose committee is in charge of many of the immigration bills the House could consider this year and who is working on a legalization bill for young illegal immigrants, said the Obama administration’s move “poisons the debate” and shows that the president is trying to “politicize the issue” rather than work for a compromise bill.

The memo is the latest in a series of directives issued by ICE and by Homeland Security Secretary Janet A. Napolitano that try to lay out priorities for whom the government will detain and try to deport.

A year ago, she issued a policy granting tentative legal status to young illegal immigrants brought to the country as children, who call themselves Dreamers. That policy began accepting applications in August 2012 and as of the end of this July had approved legal status for more than 430,000 illegal immigrants.

Even as the memos draw criticism from some, immigrant rights groups are mounting a campaign asking Mr. Obama to expand his use of prosecutorial discretion to halt almost all deportations.

The memo issued last week instructs ICE agents to give special consideration when they encounter an illegal immigrant who is a parent or legal guardian of a child.

“FODs shall continue to weigh whether an exercise of prosecutorial discretion may be warranted for a given alien and shall consider all relevant factors in this determination, including whether the alien is a parent or legal guardian of a USC or LPR minor, or is a primary caretaker of a minor,” said the new memo, known as the Family Interest Directive. FODs are field operations directors, LPRs are legal permanent residents and USCs are U.S. citizens.

Bob Goodlatte (Badlatte) is one of Boner’s henchmen pushing for amnesty and open borders. Why does this bother him?

  • mobilebay

I wish our President had the courage to speak to the nation and tell the truth…that he does not care for his citizens and the more illegals and non-whites he can bring here is his plan. When he can supply the traitors who hire cheap labor, those who hire them repay him with votes and donations. That’s what our government has come down to now.

  • MekongDelta69

If he was ‘honest’ (Ahahahaha), he would simply come out and say they ALL can stay – and ALL of US can go.

  • IstvanIN

In a sensible society the illegal alien parent would be deported along with their children regardless of where the child was born. This is not Cuba where we control who has to stay. Certainly aliens can be questioned, do you have a wife or partner (most Mexicans are not married in the legal sense), do you have children, then round them up and send them all home. But we are not a sensible society we are the GM of nations, coasting on past glories until the inevitable end.

I believe that in Mexico, like in China, when couples marry, the wife keeps her maiden name.

      • IstvanIN

Most foreign born Hispanics with children in this country are not married.

        • StillModerated

Indeed! Since their incest rate is staggeringly high, perhaps they could be shipped out on the grounds of in-breeding.

Never heard a person in my life say they disliked anyone because of their “color.”

  • HJ11

I’ve written it a hundred times. Obama and those who think like him are trying to blend Whites into non-existence and they’re doing it the way one might mix paint. In their view the country is too White, so they’re importing Blacks from Africa and putting them in the Whitest states in the union (New Hampshire for one), but they don’t want everything to be too Black so they’re also importing Yellows and Browns.

Actually, I suspect they’re working with a computer program on demographic genetics to get the mix they want, but my race as paint color does the same thing.

And, what is the mix they want? A Tan Everyman. Not too White, not too Black, not too this and not too that. And, to go along with the racial blending they’re also blending religions.

Resist the blending. Remain White. We’ll get through this, those of us who separate from the madness, and then….

And then the cleansing begins .

“President Obama has once again abused his authority and unilaterally refused to enforce our current immigration laws…”

And this is a surprise ?

  • Do you guys REALLY think it would’ve been any different under President McCain, or President Romney?

    • Puggg

I saw on Breitbart via QD’s blog that one of Romney’s former top big wigs and donors is going to join George Soros’s push to get evangelical Christian leaders to advocate for open borders. Whoever this person this is, I can’t remember his name, was part of Romney’s campaign in the fall of last year and Kris Kobach, Romney’s “immigration adviser,” was not. It’s plainly obvious like the ugly on my face that Romney is and always was open borders all the way.

And we know what a President John McCain would be doing right now. Exactly what he’s doing now.

    • tickyul

NOPE……both of those guys are dyed in the wool Phonycons!
Phonycons LOVE open borders and unfettered immigration!

    • Whitetrashgang

No that is the problem , the only white hope is a third party. As for McCain can you name a bigger piece of sh#t? Okay maybe the Kennedys, see how that works?

    • Greg Thomas

Of course not. It was not any different under Reagan or Bush. Bush spent the last two years of his presidency trying to ram amnesty down the collective throats of Americans. He begged, pleaded and when that did not work, made threats on behalf of his beloved illegal invaders. Ronnie Reagan, with the stroke of a pen, gave close to 5 million invaders their “dream.” Ronnie did his part for reconquista. The GOP has not stopped since.

  • borogirl54

It does not surprise me at all. This coming after the town meeting where a young girl asked Republican rep Scott Desjarlais why her father had to be deported and why he could not stay with her. He told her that laws have to be followed. I am wondering if this would apply to a parent who has a criminal background? I think that these people have to face the consequences of their actions.

    • IstvanIN

The child should go with the parent. Period.

      • borogirl54

I agree with you on that.

  • odious liberal

Who will he deport? We know he won’t deport gangbangers, criminals, pedophiles or his relatives.

    • IstvanIN

His relatives includes the first three categories, as well as drunk and welfare queen.

    • Ngati Pakeha

Who will he deport? Afrikaners, Brits (you know what I mean by this), Germans and basically any group that formed the lions share of immigrants before the mid-1960s.

  • IKantunderstand

You know, this is all a bunch of BS. Nobody who snuck into this country, can prove exactly when, they did so. Thus, allowing kids who were brought in by their parents, is BS. Maybe they snuck over on their own at the age of sixteen! Who knows? And, furthermore, I do not care. We Whites, can not cure the ills of the world. I know, I know, we did invent wizards, and witches, and magic. We did it for fun and entertainment, and to impart moral and ethical memes. Still, we understand it to be what it is: Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty, and Goldilocks are a part of our culture as Whites. Whites have been under pressure to create colored princesses. There were never colored princesses. Ever. I know I am OT, but, I am so sick of having to make allowances for the coloreds amongst us, and, now, just giving in to the fact that my country, created by my forefathers, is just going to be handed over to the colored hordes, streaming into my country, is beyond the pale! Every country in the world, that is not run by Whites, is a mess. Period. Don’t tell me about China’s economic success, would you want to live there? How about India? Please, the only countries worth living in, are those countries either run physically by Whites, or those countries patterned on White civilization. Like Taiwan, and other Asian examples. By the way, when are we going to start speaking about the White genocide in South Africa? The only difference between South Africa and the rest of the White world, is that the Whites in South Africa are a minority. Think about what will happen to us, when we are the minority, as we continue to allow in all the coloreds of the world. Who here actually believes, that things will continue just fine for a minority White population around the world?

That’s funny, because I have Canadian third, fourth, and fifth cousins…often wondered what it would be like to just live with them. (My great-grandfather’s family moved from Ontario to Michigan, half his siblings were born in Ontario, the last half, including him, in Michigan. I now live in Ohio.)

  • cockhopperzsuck

Bank robbers have children too, so should they also be exempt from being detained?
