Guards Help Escort Chicago Kids to New Schools

Don Babwin, Associated Press, August 26, 2013

Thousands of Chicago children whose schools were shuttered last spring walked to new ones on the first day of school Monday under the watchful eye of police officers and newly hired safety guards there to provide protection as the kids crossed unfamiliar streets–many of them gang boundaries.

No incidents of trouble were reported, police said. While that didn’t surprise parents and grandparents, they said they were still concerned that the city’s obvious show of first-day force won’t keep their children safe in the weeks and months to come.

Kathy Miller stood in front of Gresham Elementary with her three children, waiting for a bus that would take them to another school. She scoffed at the Safe Passage program, in which guards clad in neon vests line Chicago streets, saying it won’t be long before brightly colored signs announcing the program’s routes will be riddled with bullets.

“Those signs don’t mean nothing,” she said.

The preparation and show of force shows what’s at stake for Chicago Public Schools, the nation’s third-largest school district, after it closed almost 50 schools last spring in the hopes of improving academic performance and saving millions of dollars. About 12,000 of the district’s 400,000 students were affected by the closures.

For months, parents, teachers and community activists have warned that forcing children to pass through some of the city’s more impoverished and dangerous neighborhoods–where some already walk in the middle of the street to avoid being ambushed by gang members–to get to school puts them at undue risk.

Statistics suggest those concerns are valid. An analysis of Chicago crime data by WBEZ-FM found that in 2013, there have been 133 shootings and 38 homicides in and around areas that have been newly marked as Safe Passage routes.

With the hope of preventing problems, the financially strapped city hired 600 workers at a rate of $10 an hour to supplement a Safe Passage program that has existed since 2009,–launched the same year a Chicago honors student’s beating death was videotaped.

Police worked with residents and CPS to map out routes near 52 of the so-called “welcoming schools” that are taking in students from the closed schools. Along those routes, the city has put up scores of “Safe Passage” signs.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel also deployed city departments to repair sidewalks, replace street lights, paint over graffiti and board up nearly 300 abandoned buildings.

ONLY in black and brown ‘hoods do you need something as retarded and insane as a “Safe Passage.”

I guess this is what is considered the ‘new crowning achievement’ of Western Civilization.

    • Stentorian_Commentator

Yes, the irony of it. Once Orval Faubus and Bull Connor wanted to be separate from them, and that was such a horrible injustice. Now they have to worry that their own people will kill them for the hell of it. I’ve come to appreciate the wisdom of these segregationists.

      • sbuffalonative

And they refuse to acknowledge who is the problem. It’s every body else and every thing but them. Somehow this just keeps happening in their community. Why is a mystery.

        • Stentorian_Commentator

Yes, like BO’s HUD secretary explaining why the feds will subsidize bringing the inner city to you: it’s those pesky, dangerous ZIP codes!

    • Bon, From the Land of Babble

These “Safe Passage” routes and signs show that the gangs and thugvons have won the war in Rhamistan. They are in control of the streets and neighborhoods, not the city of Chicago, not the police, or any other authority.

Those signs are an indication of Chicago’s surrender.

      • sbuffalonative

Since these gangs aren’t the Klan, there will be no federal intervention.
No news here. Just blacks victimizing blacks and no whites to scapegoat.

      • Tinfoil A22hat

Stuff like this starts plugging in to the checklist found in a book by Rowan published in ’96, and it gives me goosebumps — not good goosebumps, bad ones. Of course, I’m just a loon, what do I know 🙂

        • Triarius

Civil War II? Prophetic isn’t it?

        • Bon, From the Land of Babble

History repeats. Human nature is immutable.

With that said, it’s not hard to predict the future…and prepare yourself.

      • MBlanc46

The authorities lost control of the South and West sides long ago. The very worrying thing now is that the Negroes have begun exporting the violence from their ghettos to white neighborhoods on the North Side.

        • Bon, From the Land of Babble

Ditto in Los Angeles. Mexican gangs — many of them made up of foreign criminals — lord over large sections of Los Angeles. The police can’t/won’t/don’t touch them leaving American citizens vulnerable to their violence, terror and mayhem — this in a state with possibly THE strictest gun laws in the nation.

It seems THEY have more rights than WE do, they are untouchable as they destroy our once-great cities, national parks, schools, justice system, etc.

If you ever come to the Southwest, I will take you on an LA “gang, garbage and graffiti” tour — to show you the destruction these IDIOT polices (like sanctuary city) have wrought.

          Here’s a few examples:

          • MBlanc46

I certainly share your heartbreak and fury at what the people of color have done to the great cities that our ancestors built. They’re never satisfied, we never give them enough or do enough for them. They keep pushing for more and more. My hope is that there exists a point where the majority of whites will be fed up and say, “No more!”

          • ncpride

That’s so sad to see, Bon. I have a feeling it won’t be long until the rest of us start seeing this sort of thing. Nothing short of mass deportation will prevent it, and I don’t see that on the horizon anytime soon.

          • Guest

I had to drive to Santa Monica the other day. Even the expensive westside looks pretty shady. I thought I would stay to wait out the traffic…have dinner, play golf, etc. I just couldn’t. I hate being there so much, even in the “nice” neighborhood. I left at 3 PM and the drive was 1.5 hours to advance 5 miles. It was a three hour drive through hell back to OC. Rush hour simply lasts all day. Why is there so much traffic when so many are on welfare?

      • NeanderthalDNA

Yet another application of bandaids at public expense to stop the gushing flow of gore.

Diversity is bankrupting us in so many ways…death by TRILLIONS of little cuts…

    • sbuffalonative

And they still blame ‘No Child Left Behind’, testing, and Republicans for failing to fund public schools.

These people are in a universe of their own.

    • APaige

‘Try’ to cross the street-you are being too kind.

    • Spartacus

I’d much rather see those guards protect White people, rather than these cockroaches…

    • NM156

Not completely true. Many are in Hipsterville. Condos in 3-storey building are $300K+ at the moment.

There has already been a shooting, not involving a school student, along one of these unsafe passage routes.

They say that signs won’t do any good. And they’re right. But then they turn around and put “Gun Free Drug Free” signs in front of school and expect that to work.

CHICAGO — A man’s body was found stuffed inside a trash can Monday morning, close to a “Safe Passage” route in Englewood, police said.

    • APaige

I read the student was 14 and was shot while on a porch at 12:05 A.M.

      • Go to Second City Cop. Today they had a story about an 11 year old shot while on her front porch at 4 AM, just 28 or so hours before school started. What 11 year old is out at 4 AM? (As if I had to ask.)

  • An innocuous gesture could be misinterpreted as the wrong gang sign.
A inappropriately colored article of clothing could signal a start to hostilities.

MLK is smirking in his grave.

    • watling

I have a dream … that little black children and little white children can all be issued with bullet-proof vests for their walk to school and that the bros from da hood will hopefully not aim at their heads …

  • BlarneyMiller

“Police worked with residents and CPS to map out routes near 52 of the so-called “welcoming schools” that are taking in students from the closed schools”

“Welcome to you students who are likely to attack our students, drag down our education, and turn our school into the cesspool of a school you just left because the city had to it close down.”

  • WmarkW

Has anyone compared the images to Little Rock 1957, and contrasted what makes it dangerous for blacks to walk to school?

  • willbest

Most the schools that were closed were absolute @#$#@ holes that non suburbanite would send their children to yet they express outrage at their closing. wonders.

  • IstvanIN

Just another shining example of how low we have sunk as a nation and society. Diversity is strength. Yup.

  • Spartacus

“Police worked with residents and CPS to map out routes near 52 of the
so-called “welcoming schools” that are taking in students from the
closed schools. Along those routes, the city has put up scores of “Safe
    Passage” signs.”

Those “welcoming schools” wouldn’t happen to be mostly White, would they ?

    • Strider73

I doubt if there are any “mostly white” schools in Chicongo anymore. An article awhile back said whites were ~7% of the CPS student population.

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

Well, looks like it works about as well as a “gun free zone”

a 28-year-old man was shot along one of the routes and a 14-year-old boy was shot to death near another one, the day before school starts. There have been at least three fatal shooting along or near a Safe Passage route since mid-August.

August 26th: Streets and Sanitation workers made a gruesome discovery a half-block from a Safe Passage route this morning: The body of a man in a trash can in the Englewood neighborhood.

What’s needed it to pass another law making it illegal to shoot people.

  • exlib93

Still separate, but unequal. Can they still blame us?

    • Nick A Siggers

Faster than you can say YTs fault.

“Those signs don’t mean nothing,” she said.

Someone wasn’t paying attention during grammer lesssons.

    • Tim_in_Indiana

      Just showing her low IQ.

    • MBlanc46

I believe that is correct grammar in Ebonics.

    • Jesse James

Her grammar may be flawed but her assessment is correct. Those signs are just a politician’s window dressing, they don’t mean anything.

    • Celebrate Homogeneity

Or, she WAS paying attention in algebra. She learned that two negatives add up positive.

  • borogirl54

In 1957, armed members of the Arkansas National Guard accompanied nine black high school students to classes at Central High School in Little Rock. Today, guards are accompanying black children to classes in black neighbor. My, how times have changed.

    • sbuffalonative

      Excellent comparison.

    • Strider73

Had those Guardsmen been able to look 56 years into the future, they likely would have deserted.

  • Tinfoil A22hat

Blacks don’t belong in civilization. The best they have to offer are the results of miscegenation, and even those are inferior replicas. “Pure” black is as low as it gets.

  • The walk to and from school is only half the battle. The other half is what happens inside the school. Since a lot of CPS schools were closed, and new boundaries drawn for the schools that remained opened, this means that school service boundaries will often cross gang boundaries, which means you’ll have rival gang bangers shoulder to shoulder in the same school building several hours a day. They may not be able to shoot each other inside the school, but they will once they’re out of school.

    • Jesse James

Yes who will guard the guards and the teachers from the demon children? The other side of the signs should say “Warning – Demon Children Crossing”.

  • APaige

We only needed one crossing guard. I think 133 shooting and 38 homicides make it a “Barely Safe Passage”.

    • sbuffalonative

We should rename it ‘The New Middle Passage’. That would tick them off.

  • odious liberal

Much easier than fixing the problem and provides jobs too.

    • Tim_in_Indiana

Yeah, just pass more laws. Don’t worry about enforcing the laws that already exist.

It’s the black/liberal voodoo/juju. The mere passing of laws will magically fix the problem. No hard work of actual enforcement needed.

      • WR_the_realist

You’re being too harsh. Look at the way No Child Left Behind mandated equality of academic performance among different races and thereby achieved it.

    • MBlanc46

The principal problem with the CPS is an average IQ of 87. And a lot of the teachers are products of the CPS. The only solution is to accept that blacks are less intelligent than whites and to educate them according to their capacity.

  • IstvanIN

Maybe they need an “underground railroad” again!

  • MekongDelta69

Gosh Beav – another black on white crime. I am SO shocked. They’re happening so fast now, you can’t keep up with them. I’m sure Mr. ‘Post-Racial’ is loving every minute:

Black mob on rampage fractures cop’s skull
(He was trying to help out a woman who was being attacked.)

  • IKantunderstand

I don’t care. I’m willing to take a chance on the fact that the person who finds the cure for cancer, is not to be found amongst the Black school population.

    • watling

Yeah but think about all those aspiring rappers that America is crying out for.

  • MBlanc46

They consolidated the schools with declining enrollments to save money. According to the Chicago Tribune, these guards are going to cost $7 million.

  • NM156

  • itdoesnotmatter

Wonder how long it will be before the govt demands that vouchers be granted for “urban” stoodunts to attend the excellent schools in Winnetka and other prosperous suburbs.

    • MBlanc46

That would be excellent. That would be the start of another anti-busing movement.

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

Who do you think eggs them on?

Most journalists are lefties, hate Whites, agree with the War on Whites and favor White displacement, if not genocide.

They continue to cover up and excuse black malfeasance and present blacks as innocent victims of White oppression, hatred and violence.

Blacks are told repeatedly and by the media that Whites are responsible for ALL of their failures. ALL of them!

I’ve always maintained that the two worst enemies we Whites have are the media and education system — those who spread the word and promote — implicitly and explicitly — to non-Whites that it is A-OK to attack, kill and assault Whites because of Whites’ “past bad acts” against them.

To know who holds power over you, find out whose motives and actions you cannot question.
