Black Education Tragedy

Walter E. Williams, CNS News, July 9, 2013

As if more evidence were needed about the tragedy of black education, Rachel Jeantel, a witness for the prosecution in the George Zimmerman murder trial, put a face on it for the nation to see.

Some of that evidence unfolded when Zimmerman’s defense attorney asked 19-year-old Jeantel to read a letter that she allegedly had written to Trayvon Martin’s mother. She responded that she doesn’t read cursive, and that’s in addition to her poor grammar, syntax and communication skills.

Jeantel is a senior at Miami Norland Senior High School. How in the world did she manage to become a 12th-grader without being able to read cursive writing? That’s a skill one would expect from a fourth-grader. Jeantel is by no means an exception at her school. Here are a few achievement scores from her school: Thirty-nine percent of the students score basic for reading, and 38 percent score below basic. In math, 37 percent score basic, and 50 percent score below basic. Below basic is the score when a student is unable to demonstrate even partial mastery of knowledge and skills fundamental for proficient work at his grade level. Basic indicates only partial mastery.

Few Americans, particularly black Americans, have any idea of the true magnitude of the black education tragedy. The education establishment might claim that it’s not their fault. They’re not responsible for the devastation caused by female-headed families, drugs, violence and the culture of dependency. But they are totally responsible for committing gross educational fraud. It’s educators who graduated Jeantel from elementary and middle school and continued to pass her along in high school. It’s educators who will, in June 2014, confer upon her a high-school diploma.

It’s not just Florida’s schools. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, nationally most black 12th-graders test either basic or below basic in reading, writing, math and science. Drs. Abigail and Stephan Thernstrom wrote in their 2004 book, “No Excuses: Closing the Racial Gap in Learning,” “Blacks nearing the end of their high school education perform a little worse than white eighth-graders in both reading and U.S. history, and a lot worse in math and geography.” {snip}

{snip}

The educational system and black family structure and culture have combined to make increasing numbers of young black people virtually useless in the increasingly high-tech world of the 21st century. Too many people believe that pouring more money into schools will help. That’s whistlin’ “Dixie.”

{snip}

I hope Rachel Jeantel’s court performance is a wake-up call for black Americans about the devastation wrought by our educational system.

Hey, Walter, you didn’t mention the 800-lb gorilla in the living room, that is, your people are innately stupid and no type of schooling will change that.

    • Since white people let these 800 lb. gorillas live amongst us without question, it seems that a lot of whites are just as stupid as Rachel Jeantel.

      • So CAL Snowman

Stupid is as stupid does, I guess.

        • Luca

Even Forrest Gump went to school. You don’t have to be a genius to pass high school, it just takes a little bit of effort, determination and discipline. Most of them possess enough intelligence to pass high school, it’s their other ghetto habits that really do the heavy damage. They have no motivation to achieve much because they know the big taxpayer funded safety net is there with food stamps and cellphones to make life easy.

          • MawellAxel

I beg to differ. Most of them don’t possess enough intelligence to pass high school. YOu can blame it on all sorts of things but it has ALWAYS been the way that most blacks have been barely literate or illiterate, and most blacks have been incapable of “maff”.

          • Luca

The average American black has an IQ of about 85. Taking that IQ coupled with hard work, effort and discipline they should be able to produce a C – or better while the White and Asian students would at the same time, with the same effort, produce an A. Black students from good homes do this consistently.

Instead, it is the ghetto, ebonical, entitlement subculture that plays the greater role.

A high IQ is not an instant passport to high grades and a lower IQ is not an automatic F. Work habits come into play. I have a fairly decent IQ and put very little effort into high school due to my attitude. I probably squeaked by with a C average. Later in life when I really wanted to learn, I pulled virtually straight A’s in college.

Lower IQ should not be used as an excuse.

          • Erasmus

It’s also that pathologic ghetto culture. People have to stop celebrating it. Pretending that acting like a street punk doesn’t help anyone in the long run. It only normalizes the pathologic and destroys what once were healthy norms.

          • Cellphones? Nope. That’s “sail foams”.

          • Andy

Most blacks could not complete high school if it hadn’t been so dumbed-down. About half could finish eighth grade. Another third could complete sixth. (All this is assuming that the children work hard, rather than misbehaving or slacking off.)

          • MawellAxel

when schools were “separate but equal”, people just didn’t notice that most blacks gradjimicated being illiterate and incapable of “maff”. Their teachers passed them on then too. The nature of the negro has not changed. There were some schools that claimed their students outperformed whites, yet I’ll put money on it that teachers in those schools cheated the way they cheat today.

          • Erasmus

And when our children are forced to associate with them, they teach them their bad habits. Rather than bringing up 300 pounds slabs of attitude like Jeantel the Hutt up, they bring our children down, way down.

          • MBlanc46

“They have no motivation to achieve much…”

I wonder if it’s more than just a question of motivation. Do many of them conceive that there’s any sort of life other than welfare, hanging out, getting high, partying, and crime? It’s all that many of them have ever seen. One reads that many ghetto blacks in Chicago who live, say, in Engelwood have never been Downtown or seen the Lake, although they’re only a few miles away. Their worlds are so circumscribed that a job, a home, and an intact family are as alien to them as life on Mars.

          • Luca

Exactly, which is why I refer to their lifestyle as a “subculture”. African and Caribbean immigrants do not have that attitude when they first hit our shores, many are actually hard workers and achievers, unless they or their kids succumb to the ghetto-entitlement subculture.

Part of the subculture is to not “act white”, you know, like study and get good grades. Instead it’s entitlement, wanton sex, violence, drugs, alcohol, music, junk food, lots of baby-daddies, crime, welfare checks and finding ways to rip-off “the man”.

Clearly a portion of them can successfully enter into mainstream middle-class American culture, but a vast majority cannot or will not and prefer to take the low road.

          • MBlanc46

Definitely a subculture and a very insulated one. In some subcultures, members can move back and forth between it and the mainstream culture. But many of the ghetto dwellers are so remote from the mainstream that it’s impossible for them to enter it. They know nothing of it, and, as you point out, see it as their enemy.

          • BarnyL

They’ve discovered they don’t need it, thanks to the half-wit liberals. All they need is a victim mentality, attitude and a gimmie gimmie gimmie. And, of course, a biased media with a grudge against whites.

Look how well off some of them are as compared to some hard working poor white people.

          • MBlanc46

There’s probably something to that, but I think many of them lack the self-awareness to frame things as you’ve framed them. They are simply incapable of seeing any other way of life than the one they have. Sure, they see that whites live differently. But they’re “n*qq*rs” and the way the live is just the way “n*qq*rs” live. Outside of rap stars and pro afletes (which are both extensions of ghetto culture), they just can’t conceive of any life other than “da streets”.

      • laughnow

it all be Abe Lincolns fault. He be raciss.

      • Luca

I would like to ascribe the blame more directly on LBJ and his “Great Society” which achieved nothing more than converting blacks into Democratic voters and started an avalanche of tax spending that is completely out of control today.. The side effects of that Great Society experiment is of course manifested and exemplified in people like Trayvon and Jeantel. Today’s liberal politicians carry on LBJ’s agenda and have taken it to new heights in ways he could never have imagined.

        • Joseph Bryant

Appalachia has had the same anti-poverty programs and they do not display the same utter dysfunction as an inner city black/hispanic area. It’s not welfare so much as the kind of people getting the welfare.

          • Romulus

I give over a thousand dollars a year to the Appalachian Christian charities. The instant that I find that my money is being deferred to unacceptable minorities, I will yank the plug! Just like I did with the BSA. I refuse to give anyone but our race (sans the tribe) one nickel if I can help it.

          • OlderWoman

I agree with you. I don’t contribute to charities who raise money for Africa or the Latino countries. Especially Samaritan’s Purse.

          • Luca

The only aid those countries need are condoms or sterilization.

          • MawellAxel

One can’t expect a Donkey to perform like a race horse, no amount of training will accomplish this.

          • Creepy as a cracker!

Exactly, crime is no where near as rampant in Appalachia as it is in the ghetto!

        • Creepy as a cracker!

Ah! One of the fine benefits of diversity she is.

        • MBlanc46

Blacks were pretty seriously Dem after 1936, so I think LBJ is off the hook for that. I’d bet that he actually thought that the GS programs would lift blacks out of poverty and begin the process of integrating them into society. (And it wasn’t him who started exporting all of the manual labor jobs that blacks could have been doing to the Third World.) In the mid-1960s it was possible to believe those things. Most educated people did. Fifty years of experience and some great advances in genetics have shown those beliefs to be false. But it didn’t look that way in 1965.

          • Luca

True enough, FDR received about 71% of the black vote but then it dropped and picked up again. But LBJ got 94% in 1964 and he opened the flood gates of entitlements which in turn really sealed black culture into what it is today.

It was LBJ who was supposed to have said “I’ll have those ni66ers voting Democratic for the next 200 years”.

It appears he succeeded so far.

          • MBlanc46

And the Repubs have given little reason for blacks to vote for them, although, in fairness, it’s hard so say how they could do so except to compete in the gibsmedat marathon. I think understand why the welfare programs were instituted, but there’s no doubt that they’ve destroyed most of the enterprise that existed among blacks before the mid-1960s.

          • JohnEngelman

The welfare system has contributed to black social pathology. What has also contributed is the decline in the number of jobs that provide people of slightly below average intelligence with lower middle class incomes.

The welfare system reduces the negative consequences of dysfunctional behavior. The decline in good jobs reduces the positive consequences of responsible behavior.

In his book “Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960-2010,” Charles Murray documents that social pathology has increased among white blue collar workers too. When people longer think the future is worth living for they live for temporary satisfactions.

          • JohnEngelman

Whites who supported the civil rights movement during the 1950s and 1960s genuinely believed that blacks were unoffensive victims of irrational color prejudice, that they were genetically equivalent to whites, and that when racial discrimination came to an end blacks would behave and perform as well as whites.

Because it is not longer possible for a rational person to believe any of that liberals try to suppress a candid discussion of facts that are not in serious dispute.

Most liberals know what the truth is, but they don’t want to think about it.

      • OhWow

Is the 800 lb gorilla named Rachel Jeantel by any chance?

        • Dave4088

Be nice. She’s only four bills.

          • She’s also only 19. Give her some time; I have every confidence in her ability to someday reach 800 pounds, and none whatever that she will eventually learn to read genuine English.

          • Thor Bonham

And she won’t pay a penny for the extra weight either ..
No, that will be up to us to provide .. Hey, it’s for the good of the people .. PPffftttt !!!!

      • Erasmus

Forced bussing was one of the worst things that ever happened to this country.

Want to know why Susan and Johnny can’t read? Because over half of their class mates and even some of their teachers are Rachel Jeantels.

      • MBlanc46

That’s harsh. They’re trying to be fair and to do the right thing, as they understand it. The empirical evidence for a biological basis for black behavior is relatively recent and not well represented in the media. There’s a 100+ years of social science dogma to the contrary. We’ve got an uphill battle ahead of us, but I certainly hope, and do believe, that whites have the nous to eventually ascertain the facts and act accordingly.

      • MawellAxel

Seems that this whole thing has backfired on obsamma and holder, they wanted to stick it to the white man, yet, what the white man is seeing is not doing the black man any good. I’d say it is converting many white people into reborn race realists.

    • sbuffalonative

Let’s consider an alternative. Let’s imagine that the witness, acting and speaking in a similar manner, had been a white male.
How would the media have represented him?
He would be ridiculed and mocked on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report as a southern, inbred, red-neck hick.
The leftists MSM would have dismissed his testimony as that of an ignorant cracker.

      • capnmorgan5150

Maybe even a “crazy ass cracka”.

      • dukem1

Woulda been worse than that…See Jim Goad, “The Redneck Manifesto.”

        • Romulus

That book should be required reading for people that mock white southerners. Nothing infuriates me more than the lefts contempt for Americas white rural class.

      • Creepy as a cracker!

I have had enough exposure to blacks to where I can understand and speak ebonics fluently. Of course I would be branded a racist if I testified in a court of law in ebonics.

    • Ernest

It is not so much that they are stupid as it is expecting and acting like races are all the same. That it is all interchangeable.

    • MawellAxel

The gross tragedy is that white people are being taxed at exorbitant rates for the impossible task of educating these creatures. Williams has it completely backwards, his ability to look at the situation and understand it is, well, as Rachel Jeantel would say “re-tar-tid”.

      • evilsandmich

The only ‘punishment’ that she has to endure is a lifetime of government bennies, so why bother anyway.

        • Non Humans

The only ‘punishment’ that she has to endure is a lifetime of government bennies, and mirrors, and cursive handwriting, and diabeetus…

        • MBlanc46

And the fortunate condition of being too unintelligent to realize what a small, pathetic thing her life will be.

        • BarnyL

          Shouldn’t that be Guberment?

    • NeanderthalDNA

Which of the following terms does NOT belong?
      a) black
      b) education
      c) disaster
      d) success
      Hmmm…

  • MSNBC deems Jeantel to be “quite articulate.” She is by the standards of a channel that hires Al Sharpton.

    • sbuffalonative

Notice how the MSM has gone into hyper damage control.
The MSM works overtime trying to cultivate images of articulate, well spoken, intelligent, respectable blacks and Ms. Jeantel gave the world the real face of the black American female.
Ms. Jeantel is the stereotype they dread being made public.

      • After Miss Jeantel’s world beating testimony, a lot of black commentators and talking heads were freaking out over the fact that white people were making fun of her and calling her stupid. The problem was, hardly any white people were actually doing that. By them worrying about what white people were saying about Miss Jeantel, they were merely stating their own opinion of her, a form of projection, and on top of that, as you say, running in fear that people might think there’s something to those stereotypes.

        • ncpride

After the link you posted a few days back, it’s clear Whites were not calling her stupid, but in fact bending over backward to make the most ridiculous excuses for her attitude, manners and utter lack of intelligence. They were breathtaking in their denial, particularly White women who claimed they ‘get’ her, and sympathize with her.

The sad part is, there were hundreds of comments of that nature, and the only impression one could come away with is that this Jeantel is the ‘typical’ teenager, and that she is acceptable and how dare anyone make fun of her.

        • jane johnson

          You nailed it, Q.D.

      • capnmorgan5150

A better one would be, “Tyler Perry’s Medea Goes to Court”.

Not my line, BTW. Saw it somewhere else.

      • Creepy as a cracker!

There are millions more like her.

      • Thor Bonham

Yeah, and she just shot all those years of hard work down the toilet in about 3 sentences ..
I love it .. The libtards are even rolling their eyes ..

        • BarnyL

When the libtards have to make excuses and talk up the likes of her it shows them for what they are.

Let’s face it even they don’t believe the propaganda they are putting out in support of this woman.

        • MawellAxel

I bet that even oprah has a memo out to her staff: ” under NO circumstances don’t you EVER allow this N***** on this show or even NEAR it!!!”

      • BarnyL

At least she is in the news temporarily.

In the UK we have a politician that looks just like her and won’t go away.

        • Jeantel will be back in the news someday. She’ll stab a future boyfriend to death like Duke rape-hoaxer Crystal Magnum, or be caught by Social Services keeping malnourished children in a “filth house” of the sort one sometimes reads about.

Or she’ll “write” a book that will be relentlessly touted by the libtard media.

          • MawellAxel

I picture he as being one of those that get’s too fat to leave the bedroom and has “fambly” that keeps feeding her till she needs to be taken to the hospital. At that point it will be necessary to tear down the wall and have a crane lift her onto a flatbed truck, and she will expire sometime during this whole process. Twinkies are back on the market you know. Let’s all send her some!!!

          • BarnyL

I’m sure you’re right Michael, she will be back. But who will write the book, not her?

          • Haven’t we already been told that she can pretend to write in three different languages?

  • MarcB1969

When White’s do poorly, they fail school. When blacks do poorly, school fails them.

      Nice one.

I must credit Steve Sailer & Yakov Smirnoff for that one.

    • Bon, From the Land of Babble

When blacks do poorly, they sue.

      Bon

  • Homo_Occidentalis

Of course, no matter how abject their failure, it’ll always be YT’s fault. No doubt throwing more education funds at the blacks students will fix the problem. It can’t possibly be because we have a stone-age trying to compete in a first-world educational setting.

    • TheAntidote

Yes, but I’ve read on line that there were great centers of learning in Africa. Timbuctu and Great Zimbabwe come to mind where metallurgy, astronomy and philosophy were taught far in advance of Europe. Also have read sub Saharan Africans founded ancient Egypt where they developed hot air balloons and hang gliders. So what I’m saying is perhaps the White Man’s raycizm is keeping Jenteel down. Great minds have concurred that the problem is the White Man’s raycizm, simply read Myrdal’s “American Dilemma” and the Kerner Report.

  • sbuffalonative

Cursive is being fazed out. It’s a national trend so I won’t fault her for that.

Ms. Jeantel represents what I’ve been saying for years. Blacks, to a large degree, are stereotypes. It’s simply the truth.

Apologists will insist that she’s simply ‘diverse’ and we should learn to ‘tolerate’ people like her. How she represents herself is not the issue. Our attitude towards her is.

This is what white people see and this is how white people develop their racial sensitivity to blacks.

    • 1stworlder

It wouldn’t have been phased out when she was a child, the important thing to recall is that she claimed to have written the letter she could not read.

      • capnmorgan5150

I have to respectfully disagree. The story on that is that she dictated the letter to her aunt.

        • WR_the_realist

True, but why did this grown woman dictate the letter in the first place? A normal person would have written the letter himself. She would dictate the letter if she knew she couldn’t write it, in cursive or in print.

          • capnmorgan5150

I agree. She clearly couldn’t read or write. She barely spoke English.

          • dukem1

Why didn’t she write it herself, in printing?
It’s probably what most folks do anyhow…Most folks can read and write cursive, but know they have crummy handwriting, so typically print stuff.
And I’m not just talking about me here.

          • ncpride

I’m actually the opposite. I find it almost impossible NOT to write cursive…… I clearly remember being forced to practice over and over again in Elementary school until we got it right. My cursive writing is much more legible than my printing, funny as that sounds.

        • dukem1

Then why didn’t they get the aunt to come in and read the letter she wrote for the kid?
Just admit the kid was illiterate…not a lot wrong, or unusual, about that fact in her crowd.

          • capnmorgan5150

I said in an earlier post that I KNOW she is illiterate. I wasn’t disputing that. I was just clarifying the point that she dictated the letter.

    • Dave4088

Rachel Jenteal represents the average negress and is not an outlier or exception as many anti-racists will claim.

      • Creepy as a cracker!

Yes and as I have said before, Rachel is the rule rather then the exception!

        • MawellAxel

I work at many different colleges on a rotating basis. I can attest to the fact that many if not most blacks in college are illiterate.

    • OhWow

Stereotypes by their nature wouldn’t exist if they weren’t deemed true to a large extent by many people.

      • Nick Gherz

Blacks go out of their way to stereotype themselves.

        • MBlanc46

It’s called “keepin’ it real”, I believe.

    • dukem1

And we should not ignore that we are supposed to view this child of striving, ambitious, looking-for-a better-life immigrants as the dream-like future of our nation of such.
It’s hard to feature a life when after she graduates from college, gets established, and married, and then begins to raise a family……..oooops! Sorry. Thought I was posting in some alternate universe.
Guess I’m just another clueless YT.

      • Creepy as a cracker!

After all this is the future of America.

    • Romulus

I’ll rreeaalllly tell you how I feel. Better not to have them smart enough to run anything other than a football.

      • Creepy as a cracker!

They ran Detroit and look at the result!

        • Romulus

You got it. The entire city council was arrested for fraud and embezzlement.

    • Andy

Yeah, most of the other students in my course on elementary literacy couldn’t write cursive (or tell time on an analog clock).

    • Creepy as a cracker!

And there is a lot of truth to stereotypes.

      • sbuffalonative

As I always say. Stereotypes persist because they’re largely true.

The media and news outlets do everything they can to counter stereotypes by giving us well-spoken blacks.

But when people go out in the real world, the blacks they see are blacks like Rachel Jenteal.

This is causing congestive dissonance with whites and frustration from the media apologists.

  • vladdy1

To blame schools for black education us like blaming the courts for black crime.

  • So CAL Snowman

“They’re not responsible for the devastation caused by female-headed
families, drugs, violence and the culture of dependency. But they are
totally responsible for committing gross educational fraud. It’s
educators who graduated Jeantel from elementary and middle school and
continued to pass her along in high school. It’s educators who will, in
June 2014, confer upon her a high-school diploma.”

I agree 100% that the schools are responsible for gross educational fraud. The ridiculous and insane part is that if these schools act in the student’s best interests and hold them back or fail to pass them, the cries of racism from Sharpton, Jackson, and Holder would shake the Earth. I am convinced that the black mouth pieces like Sharpton and Jackson are paid off by the Globalist Elites to further damage and confuse the africans in an attempt to keep them as feral and violent as possible, a bit like keeping dogs in cages and poking them with sticks to make them vicious fighting machines. The thing that just kills me about blacks is that when it comes to education they think that a piece of paper means they are entitled to riches. They think they just have to send their kids into the building and PRESTO! by magic they will someone come out knowing how to solve differential equations and write eloquently in iambic pentameter.

    • sbuffalonative

What the ‘progressive’ left never admits AND the right can’t seem to tar them with is that our failed schools are the sum total of ‘progressive’ liberal ideology.

The ‘progressive’ left is wholly to blame for our failing schools.

      • So CAL Snowman

I agree that the progressive left coupled with a huge influx of mestizos and blacks have destroyed public education for the few Whites and Asians that remain. For the vast majority of blacks and mexicans, it makes no difference what is being taught in the schools because they are not fit to live in a first world civilization.

      • Absolutely. The left was allowed to take over the US public education system over 40 years ago. Put another way, that’s three complete cycles of K through 12 students.

        • MBlanc46

But white suburban schools still do a pretty good job of preparing students for higher education (or technical training). It’s the black and Hispanic schools that are the problem.

          • Correct. I graduated in 1984. Out of my graduating class of roughly 600, there were two blacks. There were some students with Hispanic surnames, but they looked white and spoke completely unaccented “network standard” English, and probably even spoke it at home. There was one subcontinental Indian and about four East Asians. This means the school was about 99% white.

            Fairview HS, Boulder, CO.

          • MBlanc46

Boulder. Was it a lot of university-connected people?

          • Yes, and Fairview is in the extreme south end of town, full of fairly expensive neighborhoods.

          • Irishgirl

In my graduating class of 500 in 1987 at a suburban California school, there were fewer than 10 black students. I think graduation was the first time I ever saw them – rumor was that they hung out in the gym all through school. Needless to say, none of them were in any of my honors classes.

The school I went to is NOTHING like that now. I feel bad for the kids who have to go there now.

      • Nick Gherz

Yes – school is a poor learning environment.
But if a person can’t read, write & figure when they graduate it’s the fault of the student.

Even the most rudimentary faculties can grasp the 3 R’s.
The vast majority of black students have ZERO interest in academics.

      • MBlanc46

But many schools do a pretty good job. Our local elementary and middle school do an adequate job preparing young people for high school. The high schools in the district to the south send many students to top-rate colleges and universities. The common factor? Overwhelmingly white student bodies. The high school closest to me in the district in which I live could be considered failing (although compared to the other high school in the district, it’s only somewhat failing). The common factor? Largely black student body. The cause of failing schools is not progressive education, it’s minority (black and Hispanic) students.

    • 1stworlder

The alternative is an 18yo black boy in the same class as 11yo white girls.

      • So CAL Snowman

Or they could just qualify them as special needs students and facilitate accordingly.

      • dukem1

        Yikes!!!

      • RisingReich

The alternative should be what was once the norm – segregated schools.
Young vulnerable White children of school age have nothing to gain by being exposed to animals while attempting to garner life skills and master high level concepts.

    • dukem1

Except where various judges have stepped in, the curriculum in most 1-12 grades is the responsibility of the school board.
To all my fellow AM- Renners, I say, “Four score and seven years ago”.
Ask your kids how many years that is.
Then go to your next local school board meeting, and see what they are talking about.
I predict you will begin to agree with me.
      We are doomed.

      • Creepy as a cracker!

        I agree, we are doomed.

      • Andy

The program from my nephew’s recent elementary graduation was filled with errors. Unfortunately, in my experience, the average elementary school teacher should not have an elementary diploma. I’d guess they’d average an eighth or ninth grade reading level, and write and do math at the level of fourth or fifth graders. I have worked with five different elementary teachers over the last few years. Only one of them knew everything she was trying to teach. Even the one teaching first grade material made frequent errors.

Intelligence is obviously a factor in education, but these women are not so stupid that they cannot learn how to use apostrophes or read line graphs. They simply haven’t bothered to teach much for several decades. My (brilliant, IQ around 150) sister thought, in ninth grade, that China was in the Middle East, and asked just a few months ago (she’s just finished her second year of college) if the Middle East was in Africa. My similarly brilliant late-teens brother had never heard of the New Deal until a few days ago.

You can bet they can identify bias and tell you about Martin Luther King Jr. though.

  • Jesse James

The average American black’s IQ score is 85, the average sub-Saharan black African’s score is 70. In America a score of 70 or below is considered retarded and that is all I really have to say about that.

    • 1stworlder

85 used to be considered retarded until they found out they couldn’t execute any of the blacks on death row.

    • MawellAxel

I would say that the blacks in the inner city ghettos have IQs of about 70. I think the figures you reference are old figures, that the figures for blacks are taken from the few who had made it to colleges, and there would be nothing “average” about that in regards to blacks ten to twenty years ago.

      • Non Humans

I would say that the blacks in the inner city ghettos have IQs of about 70.
I don’t think it’s limited to inner city/urban nonhumans. I think as a species they have an average spread from 55-75 no matter where they happen to be located.

    • Bon, From the Land of Babble

IQ doesn’t exist in the NWO EXCEPT when it comes to executions — then suddenly IQ is everything and 70 IS considered retarded.

      Bon

This is a fascinating point. Its a miracle that liberal heads don’t explode with all the contradictions that jostle for room in the limited space therein.

Perhaps, they do “get it.” There’s a reason why, as the (once) great Sobran remarked (and I paraphrase) “in their mating and migrating habits, white liberals resemble the KKK.”

    • Koko, the gorilla who was taught American Sign Language was once given a battery of IQ tests on which she averaged 80, making her a little smarter than the average black African.

      • WR_the_realist

Yow. Is there a link for this Koko story?

        • Sorry; I read that about 15 years ago, and can no longer remember where.

          • WR_the_realist

Well, dang, it does say that Koko tested in the 80s and 90s for IQ. (http://www.koko.org/friends/significance.koko.html) So Koko isn’t ready for stochastic calculus but does seem a step or two beyond Rachel Jeantel.

I’d like to make this very clear – READING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SCHOOL ! I could read and write perfectly both in my native language AND in English since I was 6, BEFORE I ever went to school. Stop blaming black idiocy on “The System” , there’s no system on Earth that’s ever gonna make that lobotomized walrus capable of reading !

  • Dave4088

The question that we should be asking/axing is are blacks educable or edumacatable in ebonics? We were told if they just sat next to whites in the classroom their I.Q and test scores would rise. Even more so for black men if they got to date white girls.

That’s clearly not happening, but now we are told, without any proof, that white teachers are craftily and sneakily discriminating against their black charges and that not enough money is being spent on their special and unique needs even though we are all allegedly equal.

  • Big Blue 11

If you took Rachel Jeantels brain and put it in an ants ass—it would rattle like a BB in a boxcar.

  • OhWow

Stop blaming teachers for genetic failures. Teachers cannot turn low IQ genetics into geniuses. They are regular people, not miracle workers. Teachers should maximize the performance given each student’s potential, but clearly potentials are different by race i.e. Asians vs. Blacks on average.

    • Luca

Not only must teachers deal with low IQ, they also have to deal with kids who have a dysfunctional family life, ghetto subculture, psychological, behavioral and social disorders. However, the teachers’ unions will say that we simply don’t spend enough money on teachers’ salaries.

      • ShermanTMcCoy

Well, there isn’t enough money in the world to make me risk life, limb, and sanity in a classroom of ooking savages.

      • JohnEngelman

Liberals want more money spent on public school education. Nevertheless, they do not explain what this money will buy. They do not like testing. Many are even opposed to requiring students to do homework.

    • JohnEngelman

No one but a huckster for Charles Atlas claims that it is possible to turn a sickly, fifteen year old “ninety-seven pound weakling” and turn him into an award winning athlete. Nevertheless, many expect public school teachers to turn virtually all of their students into brilliant scholars capable of becoming prosperous professionals.

  • kjh64

First of all, how could she write a letter that she couldn’t read? Secondly, as far as the “schools failing her”, did it ever occur to anyone that maybe the schools did the best they could? Maybe she simply lacks the intelligence to be able to read and is borderline retarded or she didn’t try or care enough to learn and there was nothing the schools could do.

    • willbest

The best they could have done would have been to fail her in the 4th grade, and if she failed again she would get to go to a special school where instead of math, science, history, reading, writing. Her subjects were adding/subtracting, writing, speaking, and reading. Then for middle school they would add in basic health, and in high school she would get personal finance in addition to her choice of waitressing, cleaning, or landscaping, cashiering, or stocking.

      • The problem is that the libtards and their courts would scream “racism” loud enough to deafen the entire nation if schools like that were established, because we all know exactly who would comprise the overwhelming majority of the students attending them.

        • MBlanc46

No doubt about that. But if we saw to it that there were actually some jobs for the products of such a system, reasonable people would begin to see the merits of it.

          • ShermanTMcCoy

He said libtards, there Mel. This has nothing whatsoever to do wih “reasonable people.”

          • MBlanc46

I know what he said. And I replied with an approach to tracking that reasonable people would see as avoiding the “racism” charge.

          • ShermanTMcCoy

That’s a retarded analysis, Professor Williams. In fact, it’s retarted even. JUST KIDDING, WALT! LOVE YA, BUT I STILL WISH JUST ABOUT ALL BLACK PEOPLE WERE BACK IN AFRICA!

  • APaige

The real tragedy is how much money it cost white taxpayers for blacks to ‘achieve’ at this low level. Head start alone cost more than the Apollo Space Program. It cost more to have blacks reading at a basic level than to put a man on the moon and return safely using 40 year-old technology.

  • Romulus

Fascinating! Last Thorsday in USA today p.3 center column, m toppin writes that the racial gap between hispanics, blacks and whites is shrinking. Seriously!! Who are they polling?! I would agree when it pertains to the spaniards not your average cholo.

  • Funruffian

Blacks will continue to fail en masse academically regardless of how much funding is thrusted upon them. The only factor that has changed in the past 50 years is the grading system which includes rubrics to help Blacks get better grades due to costs and riding on the merits of their peers.

  • Creepy as a cracker!

The educational system and black family structure and culture have combined to make increasing numbers of young black people virtually useless in the increasingly high-tech world of the 21st century. Too many people believe that pouring more money into schools will help. That’s whistlin’ “Dixie.” – Walter E Williams

You said it and I agree, to paraphrase “young black people are virtually useless in the high-tech world of the 21st century”. I think we have figured that out a long time ago. Blacks are useless and they will never amount to anything!

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

Dr. Williams will never, ever admit that there is a hard IQ gap between blacks and Whites; he subscribes to the lefty dogma that IQ is meaningless and that ALL students have equal potential to succeed equally.

Many black students top out by 3rd grade in reading AND math; commensurate with the average black IQ of 85. Everything BUT inherent IQ is blamed: racist White teachers, an oppressive, racist educational system designed to keep blacks “in their place” (I’ve actually heard this in teachers’ meetings), racist textbooks.

Solution? More money, new programs, more teacher training. All destined to fail because IQ is ignored.

And, by this ignoring The Main, Key Issue, IQ, Dr. Williams is complicit in continuing this mendacious propaganda.

    Bon

  • dean53

Rachel Jeantel single-handedly embodies a highly compelling argument for both abortion and segregation. “Education” could never transform this sow’s ear into a silk purse, no matter how many billions of dollars you throw or how many progressives you hire to do it.

    • jeffaral

Abortion and sterilisation are the only solution to the black problem.

    • MBlanc46

Just think of the offspring that she and St. Trayvon might have produced.

  • JohnEngelman

Stop blaming the educational system. Teachers who are unfortunate enough to be sentenced to try to teach in black public schools are doing the best they can.

    • Jim Henry

Don’t forget that, in most cases, the teachers are of the same DNA and IQ as the stutents they “teach”.

    • MBlanc46

Unfortunately, a lot of the teachers come from the same failing black public education system. Bryk et al., Organizing Schools for Improvement: Lessons from Chicago (University of Chicago Press, 2010) has some interesting things to say in this regard. Of course, they don’t address the IQ disparity, which in my mind, is fundamental.

  • JohnEngelman

No one but a huckster for Charles Atlas pretends that it is possible to take a sickly fifteen year old “ninety-seven pound weakling” and to turn him into an award winning athlete.

Nevertheless, many continue to expect public school teachers to turn virtually all of their students into brilliant scholars prepared for professional careers. They blame the teachers for the failures of their students.

No Child Left Behind left many students behind because they lacked the intelligence to keep up.

After the Travon Martin riots I hope it will be safe to name in public the races of most of the students who could not keep up.

    • NeanderthalDNA

Precisely. Because of the constraints of ideology ejucayshun is pointless. An exercise in profound futility sustained only by the desperate “emperor’s new set of duds” phenomenon (uber-egalitarian liblefty race canon).

Parents of Whites need to truly take charge of their kids’ education. Home schooling is increasingly the only option.

No Child Left Behind was precisely the liblefty dream cure, implemented by “conservatives”, as if to say…hey liblefty, here’s your chance. But did the “conservatives” really think this would work? Are they that self deceived too?
Regardless, our brutally “kind” ideology tolerates no dissent and the classic definition of stupidity gets illustrated time and again in this tragicomedy.

      • MBlanc46

I think that the Bush administration did it to set goals everyone knew the public education system couldn’t meet in order to make it fail and help pave the way for privatization.

  • The Final Solution

Blacks today have a lower standard of living than the English did in medieval times. The developmental path of a race 1000 years ago pretty much determines where they are today. IQs are the difference.

    • MawellAxel

It is not the whole picture though, and this is why the Trayvon Martin story is so enlightening to so many. No matter what his IQ or capabilities were, he was not interested in learning, he was interested in fighting and drug dealing ,using “hose”, (yes, spelled differently because of the automatic censor), STEALING- first out of others lockers, then casing houses in the community where this all went down, and he was also intent on killing Zimmerman. In other words, he is a typical black male, something we all know.

  • HJ11

We translate Williams’ screwball logic into other terms for easy understanding: Williams might as well have said: “Plow horses can’t run as fast as race horses and thus this is the fault of the education establishment.”

In other words, like many people in the world today, Willams doesn’t understand a thing about genes and apparently thinks all people are the same under different color paint jobs. And, that’s the big lie of our age and is as bad as the big lie that the Earth is the center of the solar system or that the Earth is flat. The fact that Williams’ lie is a born of ignorance and probably not intention does not make it less a lie.

  • panjoomby

as if her dumbness was caused by the educational system. the PC thing to say is “oh we have failed her” – the truth is she ended up as smart as she was pre-set to be. blacks on average are less smart than hispanics, whites, asians, ashkenazi & even sephardic jews.

    Not protest but RIOT.”
Yes, you incredibly stupid liberal – we hope they riot too.

      • The Final Solution

Even if she did speak three languages (English definitely isn’t one) her behavior speaks far more about her intelligence. They blame it all on her ‘lack of media training’ – not sure how someone who can’t even read is going to benefit from any media training.

      • Is it just me, or does Jezebel sound very much like the Huffington Post?

  • Evette Coutier

The issue is not education, it is social structure and government policy. Stupid as she is, this girl could be a contributing member of society. Do crime for a living and we will put you on the chain gang. In fact we do understand your problems. Walter Williams, you cannot blame him for being in denial. What I find puzzling is that when George Bush was president the MSM took delight in calling him dumb, uninformed or slow and they took delight in quoting those who used defamatory names against a sitting president. So now the public gets to view what stupid really looks and sounds like and just because she’s black the MSM and the PC crowd is up in arms over the abuse Rachel Jeantel is forced to endure. If the witness were white, testifying for the defense and perhaps male he would be excoriated by the press and most likely by the President of The United States (directly or indirectly). The world is full of idiots many people just have very low IQ’s, no amount of education will change that and racism doesn’t cause low IQ scores; it’s genetic and that’s the real subject being avoided in this discourse.

  • Eddie Lutz

I listen to old black music once in a while, The Penguins, Nat King Cole, The Inkspots, etc. and I wonder what the hell happened to blacks since then. The answer is obvious: abortion and government welfare has destroyed black culture and family life. No amount of money thrown at their education will fix this. Everyone knows where this is leading. We saw a glimpse of it after Hurricane Katrina.

    • Jim Henry

You forgot to mention lead paint, inbreeding and television.

    • HJ11

Nope, what happened is that Whites left the field and Blacks now can be Black and not hold them to White standards.

    • MBlanc46

I think that you also have to mention segregation. Segregation provided a context in which black enterprise could function with the adults in charge. After desegregation, those blacks capable of succeeding did so (perhaps over-represented in government service) in the mainstream (white) society, while black culture was taken over by adolescent street thugs.

      • Creepy as a cracker!

  • ViktorNN

Like most here, I agree that low IQ is always going to be a barrier to for high levels of academic achievement.

I just want to add something else, however:

Any reasonably attentive parent knows that children have a natural desire to learn. It’s quite remarkable. It’s no exaggeration to say that if you feed them and treat them well, they practically do it on their own! Under the right conditions, as children’s brains develop, basic literacy skills like math and reading almost seem to spontaneously arise.

Given this, the example of blacks and hispanics tells us that not only are these kids not being raised properly to learn, they are in fact being actively taught NOT to want to learn. Education is hated. To be literate is to “act white.” Anti-intellectualism is a deep rooted part of non-white culture. To be educated is seen as a betrayal of their non-white identity. It’s seen as losing one’s identity.

This is one of the most outrage-inducing aspects of the “education crisis” in the US. White money is shoveled into a bottomless pit to educate non-whites who hate education because to be educated is seen as “white.”

  • jeffaral

I am fed up with all this anti-black racism. Blacks score poorly at school because they are still traumatized after centuries of enduring slavery and segregation at the hands of racist whites, which means that they can’t concentrate in class. They need more than ever our help. As John Kennedy said: don’t ask what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for the blacks. In short, our black bros and sis need more welfare. more affirmative action, more section 8 housing, more everything. Don’t be selfish, start helping them!

And most of the educators that run the educational system that educates such as Ms. Jeantel are black.

I agree, and Haiti is the new Silicon Valley of the world. Port-Au-Prince is now known for its cutting edge technology and innovation. Undocumented Immigrants from all over Latin America are landing on its shores in rickety rafts for a better life in the new land of opportunity. Haiti also in a forerunner in human rights, setting the example for all nations to follow. They are producing most of the worlds Nobel laureates. 99% of the new patents in science & technology are originating from Haiti.

It was unacceptable that during her first day of testimony the 19-year-old high school senior and friend of Trayvon Martin, whom Zimmerman is charged with killing, rolled her eyes, huffing and puffing when she was asked questions. Her demeanor was indignant, and she made it fairly clear she had better things to do. After spending nearly two hours on the stand, West told Judge Debra Nelson, he would need Jeantel to return the following day for a “few more hours.” When she heard that, Jeantel responded with a loud “What?“, looking very much like a caricature from a Saturday Night Live sketch…..

Dr. Williams is wrong about Rachael Jeantel.

The lefties in the media told us how smart Rachael Jeantel is because she speaks three languages– Creole, Spanish and English, and MSNBC’s expert John McWhorter, a Columbia University linguist, assured us that the defense attorneys didn’t understand Mz. Jeantel’s dialect and that she is, in fact, articulate in black English.

Who does Dr. Williams think he is arguing with media experts who are smarter than the rest of us? I think MSNBC should give Rachael Jeantel a job as a news anchor.

Fat, Black and Stupid is no way to go through life……

There are exceptions to every rule and those exceptions are exceedingly rare.

The same thing occurred to me. Apparently you have to be paying more attention to this trial than I am to understand it.

I believe the majority have some form of learning disability or mental illness that impedes their success. There is also the fact that most of them are lazy and don’t have any ambition except to get drunk, murder, rob and rape. The black race is a total failure as a society.

    • MBlanc46

And then, of course, there’s the lower average IQ. The deficits in long-term thinking and impulse control don’t help, either,

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

If the school had an enforced failure policy, her parents would have sued for discrimination and won.

With blacks, it’s a no win situation — fail them, get sued. Pass them on, get sued. Hold them back, get sued. Give them worthless diplomas, get sued.

As long as IQ is NOT recognized as THE main factor in educational success, nothing will change — including the billions of dollars of White taxpayer monies helicoptered and fire-hosed at trying to close the black/white achievement gap.

The government would be better off handing blacks the money instead…oh wait, they already do that.

As Rachel Jeantel said about Trayvon Martin: “He call me on a Obamaphone.”

I agree, I am tired of hearing the same old broken record. More blacks were left back in XYZ School. More blacks were disciplined In XYZ School. A smaller percentage of blacks failed to graduate from XYZ School as compared to their White counterparts. The answer is always the same, it is all blamed on racism. Come on, I am sick of it. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability. Every failure brings on a new excuse with racism as the root. How about civil service exams. Blacks are constantly in court challenging these exams. Let’s just face the facts, blacks can not compete in a modern day western society. Send them all back to Africa where they can thrive in their natural environment.

      • Another question is “What happened to parental involvement?” There’s no secret as to why northeast Asian kids do well at academics: their northeast Asian parents make them do their homework.

Your typical black single mother would require a chain-hoist to drag her into a parent-teacher conference. As for books at home, I delivered pizza for a few years after my release from prison, and saw the living rooms of plenty of “middle-class” blacks. Giant TVs and eleborate stereo systems were universal, but I never saw a book.

        • Parental involvement above a certain point is useless and overrated. So of course it would get the official blame for black academic failure.

The last time my mother went to one of my parent-teacher meetings was the first semester of my freshman year of high school. After that, she pretty much made it plain by the implications of her actions, or rather, non-actions, that she either raised me right or she didn’t, and that I either had it or I didn’t, and I was either going to fly or fall flat on my face.

Seriously. If a 16-year old can’t do simple algebra problems because he doesn’t have the intellect for it, what good will his parents meeting his algebra teacher do?

          • You’re right up to a point, but uninvolved parents act as a further guarantee that a kid is unlikely to reach what potential they do possess. Some (white) friends of mine let their son drop out of school in the 8th grade. Patrick was a bright kid, but needed some prodding he just never received. He got into construction work as a day laborer, but first the illegals took over that, and then it dried up. Now he’s 29, unemployed, with no high school diploma, no college, doesn’t speak a foreign language and doesn’t know a skilled trade. What a waste!

          • pcmustgo

There’s a lot of unemployed college grads, lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a business owner, I would never hire Rachel to do any job. I don’t need the attitude, I need someone with excellent communication skills, one who can read, write and speak well. Someone who has basic math skills. I need someone who is reliable and who has a solid work ethic. And last but not least, I need someone I can trust at the store without supervision. She offers me absolutely nothing of value as a potential employee. In fact if I hired her, she would be a liability and I am sure I would sustain losses to my bottom line.

    • MBlanc46

You’d just better not say these things if you ever turn her down for a job.

      • Creepy as a cracker!

Absolutely not. I will hire the best qualified candidate and obviously she was neither the best nor was she qualified.

        • MBlanc46

I am told by a semi-reliable source that Racheal in interested in becoming an Air Traffic Controller.

Does the FAA have an Affirmative Action Program?

      • That’ll never happen. Coherent English is the global standard for air-traffic control. When an Air France passenger jet makes a landing approach at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, the conversation between the cockpit and control tower is in English.

Another strike against Miss Piggy is that American air traffic controllers from low-income backgrounds learn the trade in the air force; the training, after all is free. A 300-pounder would never pass the physical, let alone survive boot camp. I must admit, however that I find the notion of her telling her drill instructor that something was “retarded” quite amusing.

  • Hans Schneider

In Canada they allow massive black immigration into the country, smart eh ?

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

    No, they can’t.

They’re shoved through with minimal passing grades or the school district is sued.

85 IQs cannot fathom what a variable is which is a fundamental aspect of the first high school math class, Algebra I — let alone comprehend the formulas necessary to pass Geometry and Algebra II (now a required course in the school district for which I work).

As Charles Murray explains better than I can using this example from the NAEP test given to ALL 8th graders to track student accomplishment:

Example 1. There were 90 employees in a company last year. This year the number of employees increased by 10 percent. How many employees are in the company this year?

    9 (B) 81 (C) 91 (D) 99 (E) 100

Murray explains that 75% of Eighth Graders get this item wrong. What they cannot do is put everything together – they may be able to find 10% of 90 but then fail to add the result to 90. This logical step does not lend itself to being taught well to those with sub-100 IQs.

After a lot of effort, the sub-100 IQ student MAY be able to “get it,” but the next day, it’s as if you’d never taught it! The “logic” does not stick.

There are MANY students who are passed around entire math departments until some soft heart give them a D – or C, just to get rid of them and pass them on to someone else. We are also called in on the carpet in front of administrators because of low state test scores — blamed for our teaching methods, for our students not getting math (or writing or reading).

Average blacks with IQs of 85 cannot read, write or compute past a very rudimentary level and this is what holds them back from success. But the entire education system, government, upper academia insist that IQ doesn’t matter when it comes to teaching high school students.

This is the reason I switched to teaching electives like art.

    Bon

  • hastings88

The “fraud” of the educational system passing such illiterates all the way through K-12 is due to political pressure. If teachers actually enforced standards, more than half of blacks would fail to pass 9th grade, and most teachers would be branded racists. They and school administrators would lose their jobs. So they just play the game. Everyone in education knows this but dares not speak of it.

Oprah opened a school in South Africa for gifted girls a few years back. I don’t think it is going as well as she planned. Same problems, different continent.

I believe the teachers were raping the students as well…not isolated incidents, it was rampant.

These truths and more have been repeated often and emphasized for centuries, but in the last 50+ years have been drowned out, censored, revised and edited by the Liberals in power.

From Jefferson to Lincoln and beyond, thoughtful men have recognized the futility and harm done to both races by trying to intermingle the cultures and live together. Many attempts have been made to separate the races from each other and each time they have been challenged by obstacles such as political will, social outcry and finances. Politicians also understand the benefits derived from black votes and couldn’t care less about the harm done to their constituency. It is unfortunate that such a large segment of the White population do not listen to reason but simply adhere to bleeding heart agendas that ultimately harm us all.

  • MawellAxel

IQ is not the whole issue. Blacks are not motivated, they are not interested, they never have been. Lazy and shiftless, more interested in running a con or stealing something than doing honest work. It is MUCH more than plain IQ, it is abstract reasoning abilities and the other things that go along with that.

  • MawellAxel

This article is not helpful from a pro-white perspective. It blames the educational establishment for black underachievement. We have to stop blaming people for failing to accomplish the impossible.

    • Nathanwartooth

I think that is the point of it being on this site.

We know the truth of why the Black children under perform but the author does not.

      Sho nuff MR Chan!

  • That analogy reminds me of a Korean guy I once met. He had been adopted by a white couple, but ended up speaking ghetto-ese he’d learned at “skoo”. He clearly wasn’t stupid; he ran CNC milling machines, but talked like a total idiot.

He asked for job leads, so I told him to consider watching the evening news until he could speak “Network Standard English”. Nobody was going to hire him speaking that gibberish.

  • She could “get wif” Shitavious once he’s out of the halfway house.

  • This has very little or nothing to do with education or the “educational system”. Just ask Jason Richwine

Excellent comment. Yes, that is exactly right! Sometimes I refer to them as “Haji’s cousins”. Of course, you and I know that they also run the “right” as well! Using our own belief system to get us to do the dying for them with our majority white boy military for a really long time.

      interesting one

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

Ability to read and ability to comprehend what one has read are two different things — the latter of which is what counts for academic success – and this is where black fail because the average black does not have the cranial capacity to understand meaning past a very rudimentary level and is unable to draw on past knowledge, infer, deduce or put together concepts in a meaningful way.

These things cannot be taught to those on the left-hand side of the Bell Curve.

My school district moved back to a phonics-based system years ago — one that is actually scripted — with little to no results.

Learning to read, in the beginning, is learning how to decode strings of letters and associate them with known words. After this level, students must have the ability to interpret, draw conclusions from and make sense of those strings of letters — something beyond the ability of the average black with a mean IQ of 85.

This is why little progress has been made in black literacy levels despite the government spending a trillion or more dollars over the past 50 years specifically targeted at raising black reading scores.

Prof. Jensen writes in The G Factor that the problem is not the decoding of written language but rather comprehending it. Most illiterates do no better on reading tests when the selections are read to them than when they do the reading themselves.

Bottom line: no significant Black gains in educational achievement for over 50 years.
