Florida Weighs Warning Against Voter Purge

Reuters, June 2, 2012

Florida, a key electoral battleground where the 2000 presidential election was decided by a few hundred ballots, will decide in the coming days whether to heed a Justice Department warning to stop its campaign to purge ineligible voters, a state spokesman said on Saturday.

The warning issued this week by the head of the Justice Department’s voting section said the effort appeared to violate the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which protects minorities. It demanded a response by Wednesday.

A spokesman for Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner said the state must make certain that only eligible voters cast ballots.

“We have a year-round obligation to ensure the integrity of Florida’s elections. We will be responding to (the Justice Department’s) concerns next week,” Chris Cate said in an email message.

Cate said in a subsequent telephone call that the state was still formulating its response.

A mere 537 Florida votes decided the 2000 election in favor of Republican George W. Bush over Democrat Al Gore, amid charges from both sides that some people were unable to vote, some votes were uncounted, or were counted incorrectly.

Supporters of Florida’s voter scrub, conducted by the administration of Republican Governor Rick Scott, say it is aimed at clearing voter registration rolls of non-citizens. But critics call it part of longstanding Republican efforts to deter minorities and the poor, who tend to vote Democratic, from casting ballots.

In its letter to Detzner on Thursday, the Justice Department also said the effort seemed to violate the 1993 National Voter Registration Act and its rules for maintaining “accurate and current” voter registration lists “in a uniform and non-discriminatory manner.”

The purge effort, begun in April, compares lists of registered voters with driver’s license records that contain information on citizenship. Critics contend the information can be out of date as many people become citizens after they get their driver’s licenses or state IDs.

So far the state has identified about 2,700 voters as suspicious and sent them letters demanding they produce proof of citizenship to avoid being stricken from the voter rolls.

About 58 percent on the list were Hispanics – Florida’s largest ethnic immigrant population. Whites and Republicans were least likely to face being purged from the rolls, the newspaper said.

  • That FILTH – that swine – Jimmy Carter’s
MARIEL BOATLIFT was the cause of all this – THIS IS WHAT they envisioned 30 years ago.

There’s no way EVERY illegal hispanic is purged.
I say, purge them FOR REAL.

    • ITS TIME TO THINK OF OUR FUTURE, CARTER, OBAMA AND OTHER THINGS ARE IN OUR PAST.

Our people cannot prosper under the existing tyranny we now face.  There are still enough of us Great enough to form a new nation dedicated to the Liberty and Freedom that is now despised by many.  Only the chains of the tyrant can hold us the Washington but history has proved that chains can be broken.   Our best days are still ahead of us and our children’s children though it may have to be achieved at greater cost and under a different flag.

      • Critic_of_Leviathan

I daydream about the secession of a libertarian state.

  • I think Florida is waiting on a SCOTUS decision on Arizona SB 1070.  That will be their acid test to tell them how the hypothetical case of Holder vs Florida would turn out.  If SCOTUS finds for AZ, Florida will continue the purge, Holder will sue, and SCOTUS will find for Florida.  If they don’t find for AZ, Florida stops.

    • SCOTUS IS NOT GOD

No Court on earth created by man can stop men and women who yearn  to live in Freedom and Liberty as our Grandparents once did so few years ago.  SCOTUS is infallible in its decisions because man is infallible.  Those men and women who sit on that Court sit their because their parents had the money to provide them with good educations.  Any of us could have been on the Court with similar advantages and skills.  We are all created equal.  Some on the SCOTUS are less equal than others and it shows.  The Flames of Freedom and Liberty can never be extinguished by some who despise the concept.  We will not let the flame die out, never.

We mayone day call ourselves by a different name and we may one day fly a different flag, but we will be the same people who stood at Bunker Hill and who signed their names to a piece of paper in Philadelphia that could have been their death warrants.

I think you meant “fallible”, not “infallible.”

  • I don’t see what all the fuss is about… you want to vote?  Fine.  Show your ID.  That’s it, end of story.

This nonsense that the “Justice” (hah!) Department is pushing… well, I think I stepped in something similar about a week ago.  Just by bringing this up, they have indirectly admitted that Demotards can’t win without the illegal and the ineligeable casting fraudulent votes.

Fla. GOP is in a bind.

If they don’t fight back now, Fla. goes permanet Dem forever. If they do fight back, they’ll be called “racist,” which to the GOP, is worse than losing power and opportunity and White privilege.

    • Being called racists in the defense of Liberty and Freedom is no vice.  You can stand before God knowing you are not a racists and that is all that matters.  In 1860 the word they used to describe us was Abolitionist because we wanted freedom for everyone.  No matter what they call us we still ant Liberty and Freedom for everyone.

      • Church_of_Jed

Why would I want to stand before God and deny that I am a racist? Do you think racism is a sin? Racism is our last defense against Diversity. Through racism, our White privilege will make its last stand. God didn’t creat us to be mongrelized out of existence by his lower works. If he had, he wouldn’t have given us the ability to feel pain.

        • Sherman_McCoy

Exactly!  Of course, I don’t know that “Racism” is exactly the right word for the act of recognizing what a complete waste of space blacks are on this planet.  Or having a healthy fear of blacks, such as one might have for other dangerous animals.  Negrophobia is only half right.  I think a word that denotes fear and loathing for negros would be good.

          Any ideas?

So, El Ministerio Injusticio wants Florida to stop purging INELIGIBLE voters from the voting rolls? Isn’t that an admission that they are OK with having, I repeat, INELIGIBLE voters ON the voting rolls?

Really, I’m so sick of this issue, especially when one considers how it’s being portrayed in the media–a bunch of evil, mythological White Racists are working day and night to keep the darling, precious non-Whites from voting; Jim Crow lives! (Oh, if only that were true!)

Here’s some straight talk: if you’re so incompetent that you can’t even obtain an ID card to vote, then you should NOT be formally participating in the political process in the first place; voting is for adults, not children in adult bodies.  Of course, as an article on AmRen a little while back postulated, that’s not the real reason for this insanity.

  • IKantunderstand

The Justice Dept. also went on to say that Zombies cannot ipso facto be expunged from voter rolls, despite the recent “unfortunate” incident. An anonymous source at Justice was quoted as saying “So, he ate the face of a fellow citizen. Maybe Florida needs to stop f*&%#ing around with trying to make Zombies have to pass drug tests for their EBT’s. Zombies need to eat too. Besides, I bel;ieve he was a LGBT Zombie, and thus deserving of our compassion, respect, and a ride to the polls come November”.

    • This is the case Democrats are developing that will be used to prevent removing dead people from the voting lists.  In New Jersey, so many people vote after the polls close at 8:00pm that people now believe in Zombies.  Joseph Stalin of the USSR said that how people vote does not matter, what matters is who gets to count their votes.

Democrats are paying actors to act like Zombies and attack people chewing their faces off so the dead can remain on the voting lists.  The Democrats have tried every thing else.

  • I HOPE AND PRAY FLORIDA IGNORES THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

The Federal Government is really coming to an end.  It no longer has the support of our people nor can it be trusted with the power to rule.  The Federal Government is a rogue.  The Union was created to protect and defend Freedom and Liberty but today few in our nation and its rogue government care about Liberty and Freedom but in fact despise the concept.

Florida, purge the illegals and prepare to fight Washington so the rest of the States may join with you in creating a real nation dedicated to Liberty and Freedom if only a small remnant of its once greatness.  The best Days of our people are yet to come even if it must be achieved under a different flag.

    • Your comment is not a way out idea, there is more and more talk about this possibility. Of course those that feed off of the rest of us, the ones not paying tribute to the federal government, want this scheme to never end.

The union will have to contend with more than just southern states next time around.

  • Eric Holder and his injustice department are behaving like a bunch of affirmative action thugs! I really hope Florida concludes that protecting the integrity of the democratic process supersedes the thuggish, intimidating behavior by Holder and his goons!

  • The supervisor of elections in the Florida county where I live is part of a democratic machine that has been in place since after reconstruction. It is widely discussed that voter fraud is present, that the dead vote and that when ACORN was high profile, they obtained a lot of “assistance” from the supervisor. The county supervisor is one of several that have been very vocal in complaining about the voter roll clean up. The state elections division gave my county supervisor a list of 137 names that were labeled “suspicious”. The supervisor instead of checking on the 137 people complained to the DOJ. When I heard that he did that I imediately offered to research all 137 names, free of charge. I never received an answer. So, the democrats are not interested at all in fair elections, they want to steal them.

  • El_Magyar

If it were up to me, only gainfully employed people with children that own homes would be allowed to vote. We are the ones that have the most in the ante.

  • Stalin said ” it’s not who votes that’s important but who COUNTS the votes.”

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

How dare those racist Nazis in Florida discriminate against the voting rights of those who “just happen” to be deceased?!!

Everyone knows the dead and illegals have the right to vote, the right to disenfranchise legitimate American citizens.  Holder is just looking out for 0bama’s constituency!

The only way he could tell would be if one of his advisers printed it out and put it on a teleprompter.
