Anti-Illegal Immigration Groups Join Forces

Seven grass-roots organizations, including Help Save Manassas and Save Stafford, have banded together to form a state-wide issue advocacy organization called Save The Old Dominion.

According to a press release published Thursday, Save The Old Dominion will advocate for the passage of needed legislative reforms by the General Assembly to the state’s immigration policies.

The group, made up of Help Save Loudoun, Save Stafford, Vienna Citizens Group, Help Save Hampton Roads, Help Protect Culpeper and Centreville Citizens Coalition, hopes the General Assembly will do more to “discourage the unlawful presence of illegal immigrants in the Commonwealth.”

In the last session, the state government formed the Virginia Commission on Immigration, which was created to study the issue of illegal immigration. Save The Old Dominion said it will “help engage Virginia residents with their elected officials in order to improve on that dismal record of legislative failure.”

Help Protect Culpeper President Jerry Beckett said the failure of the General Assembly to address the significant negative impacts that illegal immigrants cause in Virginia have left residents unprotected.

Help Save Manassas, an anti-illegal immigration group that voted to join Save the Old Dominion on Friday, has an estimated 1,900 members, said president Greg Letiecq in an e-mail Saturday.
