Why Scott Greer Should Be a ‘White Nationalist’

It is very unusual for someone to look carefully into the question of white identity, be friendly with and even work with people in our circles, try our ideas on for size — and then reject them. It’s unusual because “white nationalists,” as we are often called, are right and those who oppose us are wrong. Once you take a hard look at the truth, it’s hard to look away.

Author and essayist Scott Greer is one of those very unusual people, so it’s worth trying to understand his reasons for writing a recent article called “I’m Not a White Nationalist.” He gives three reasons: (1) The Republican Party now looks after the interests of whites just fine, (2) white nationalism means giving up on politics in order to “marginalize oneself with LARPing,” and (3) so few white people agree with white nationalists that their cause is hopeless.

As for the first reason, Mr. Greer is correct to write that “millions” — of white Americans, presumably — want the following:

immigration restricted, law and order upheld, DEI cast aside, affirmative action terminated, and anti-white classroom lessons eliminated. These issues are no longer ignored by Republicans and mainstream conservatives.

Astonishingly, he goes on to claim that “The GOP and a conventional conservative platform can now be considered ‘pro-white.’ . . .  [W]hite nationalism is now obsolete thanks to the mainstream Right taking up the identity issues.”

The President, Vice President, and his cabinet are Republicans. So are 53 senators, 218 congressmen, 26 governors, and 4,070 state legislators. Does even one call himself “pro-white”? Does even one talk openly about race and IQ or the right of white people in America to build their own communities? Does even one call for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to be repealed or pronounce the words “freedom of association”? By what colossal stretch of the imagination have Marco Rubio, John Thune, and Mike Johnson made white nationalism “obsolete”?

It is true that under Mr. Trump, the GOP has fought the most blatant discrimination against whites, closed the border to illegals, and cut monthly naturalizations from 80,000 to 20,000 — though new citizens are still the old, unsavory mix of Mexicans, Indians, Filipinos, and assorted non-whites. This slows the Great Replacement; it doesn’t reverse it.

Moreover, these measures have not dissolved the racial solidarity of non-whites. Blacks, Hispanics, and even Asians are, if anything, more determined than ever to promote their own interests — at the expense of whites if need be. Only goofy white conservatives even pretend to believe in the GOP mirage of a Kumbaya America, with every imaginable mix of people, all united in admiration of Old Glory and grateful for whatever scraps pure meritocracy throws their way. Most Republicans won’t even admit that meritocracy would mean hardly any blacks in the Ivy League.

The next Democratic president will reverse everything Mr. Trump has done. He, she, or it will promote even more outrageous racial grievances and demands, and mount purges that make no distinction between I’m-not-a-white-nationalist Scott Greer and full, SPLC-certified “haters” such as your servant. And without Mr. Trump, Republicans could easily slip back into token opposition and pathetic outreach campaigns to blacks and Hispanics.

As for Mr. Greer’s second argument, that “white nationalists” are LARPers, how’s this for a straw-man argument?

[White nationalism] generally views normal politics as a waste of time and advocates for solutions outside the present order. But they rarely take up these solutions, because they lack the real-world presence and commitment to carry them out. Few want to move out to the woods for an all-white community or form a militia with internet randos. The only tangible results of WN activity is getting its followers doxed.

Mr. Greer soundly refutes this caricature by congratulating himself on having been part of the powerful white nationalist movement that made the GOP the wonderful pro-white institution he says it now is:

Conservatism refused to address the issues [such as mass immigration, DEI, and white identity] that threatened our civilization. They were content to focus on frivolities [such as free markets and lower taxes]. The only people who talked about these things were white nationalists, which naturally drew in people who would’ve otherwise never associated with it.

You can’t have it both ways. When Mr. Greer was one, white nationalists helped get Mr. Trump elected and make America safe for white people, but now, all they do is run around in the woods with internet randos? This is silly. Have all the people who were so savvy and productive in the days of the “Alt-Right” now died off without heirs or lost their minds? People who care about the future of white people have never been more serious about pursuing every political and metapolitical means of achieving their goals.

As for the final argument — that there aren’t enough of us — it is true that only a minority of white Americans are racial nationalists. Mr. Greer cites a 2019 PEW study to note that only 15 percent of whites say their race or ethnicity is “extremely important or very important” to them. However, 18 percent say it’s “a little important,” and only 47 percent say it is not important at all. Since that 2019 study, Mr. Trump was reelected, Elon Musk bought Twitter, and an increasingly well organized remigration movement in Europe has caught the imaginations of whites everywhere. I’m confident that racial identity is important to more whites than ever — and that they would be less inhibited about saying so to a pollster.

The same 2019 PEW study found that 56 percent of whites think American race relations are “generally bad,” and 69 percent of them say race relations are getting worse. That is tens of millions of whites. More and more of them will be determined to repudiate the entire “civil rights” fiasco, reject integrationist ideals, and seek separation.

Countless “radical” views have become mainstream, all initially promoted by minorities. Mr. Greer himself claims to have helped bring about substantial political change. And surely, he has not forgotten that for centuries, whites were united in racial awareness. Now that they have gone through the agony of dismantling their own racial consciousness — while every other group fortified theirs — a return to white identity is natural, even inevitable.

White nationalism means advancing the interests of whites. It remains to be seen whether that results in free association, an ethnostate, or something else entirely. There is enormous inertia behind both anti-white racism and the ideology of race-blindness. Without a committed white vanguard, politics will default to a slow catastrophe for us.

It would be a betrayal of everything we have achieved to put our faith in the tepid, unprincipled GOP.
