France Sees ‘Alarming’ Rise in Islamophobia

France24, November 21, 2012

French Muslims have become the target of a marked increase in Islamophobic violence and actions, as well as incendiary statements by politicians, over the last two years, according to a report by a leading anti-racism observatory.

The number of racist acts against Muslims in France is increasing “alarmingly”, according to the country’s National Observatory of Islamophobia, whose president has called for overt Islamophobia to be taken as seriously as anti-Semitism, which is a criminal offence in France.

According to a report by the Observatory, which claims to fight “all forms of racism and xenophobia”, “in 2011 the number [of anti-Muslim attacks] was up 34% on the previous year . . . but what is happening in 2012 is alarming. Between January and the end of October there were 175 reported Islamophobic acts, a 42% increase compared with the same period in 2011.”

The report highlighted the occupation of a building site of a new mosque in Poitiers, near Paris, by 74 members of the extreme-right splinter group “Generation Identity”, who chanted hostile “warlike” slogans against Islam and Muslims.

The Observatory’s President Abdallah Zekri told FRANCE 24 that the rise in anti-Muslim sentiment in France could be partly explained by “the tense socio-political atmosphere in France being driven by a resurgence of the far right”.

This resurgence was demonstrated in the 2012 presidential election, when Marine Le Pen, leader of the anti-immigration and anti-Europe National Front (FN), won 17.9% of the vote in the first round, a record for the party.

Politicians exploiting racial tension?

“This tension has also contributed to a radicalisation of the political rhetoric of some mainstream politicians who exploit racial tensions for populist political gains,” Zekri said.

Zekri also blamed the debate on “national identity that was launched by former president Nicolas Sarkozy and the law (pushed through under Sarkozy’s government) banning the wearing of face-covering Islamic veils.”

He added that the killings of seven people, including a young rabbi and three Jewish children in and around Toulouse in March by an al-Qaeda-linked French gunman, “had been seized upon by political figures to target the Muslim community, the vast majority of which condemned these murders.”

Furthermore, Zekri explained that the figures in the Observatory’s report only include “actions or threats against French Muslims that are directly linked to the fact that they are Muslims and when those people or their property are physically threatened.”

The report stipulates: “The figures do not include acts of discrimination against Muslims or Islam generally, such as the rhetoric and declarations of certain politicians and their parties who openly stigmatise the Muslim faith, or in protests by “Identity” groups chanting slogans that are openly hostile to Islam.”

“All forms of racial and religious intolerance are contrary to the values of the French Republic and should be dealt with accordingly,” said Zekri.

What they should be concerned about is the “alarming rise” in the number of Muslims in France. Haha. Well that will not happen until FN gets into power… or something similar.

  • GM (Australia)

Perhaps it is because the french people have seen an alarming rise in the number of Muslims in their own country!

    • The__Bobster

The chosen are seeing an alarming rise in the number of attacks on the chosen by the very people that the chosen brought in. Somehow, that makes me content.

  • Stentorian_Commentator

Go France! Defend yourselves against the islamic menace, please! To think, tens of thousands of Americans were killed and maimed, supposedly to liberate France, and now the French government is inviting the enemy in.

  • 1stworlder

An islamophobe is someone who appeases muslims out of fear. Islamorealists are people like Thomas Jefferson and Gen. Pershing who both stoped gee had against the western world for decades each. General Pershing only needed 2 pigs stop muslim attacks against the west for 42 years.

    • sausages

      > General Pershing only needed 2 pigs to stop muslim attacks

Sounds like an interesting story – care to share?

      • MikeofAges

Allegedly, in post -1898 fighting, he desecrated the bodies of killed Muslim insurgents in the Philippines with pig fat and pig skin. Seeing this and hearing about it, the others fled. In other fighting, reportedly bullets were used which had been dipped in pig fat. In fundamentalist Islam, a warrior exposed to pig fat or flesh is denied the status of a martyr. I doubt modern Islamist fighters or terrorists would be deterred by the threat of posthumous exposure to pig material. These are not people who need to be motivated primarily by superstition.

        • FourFooted_Messiah

Maybe not, but it would be a good symbolic gesutre to coat any bullets, arrowheads, pellets, BBs, etc with pig fat, in case you have to use them against a Muslim attacker. And tell them what you did to such projectile just before you shoot them with it.

      • David Ashton

Didn’t a Spanish Queen instruct everyone to display pork in their window, thus reducing the Muslim population? Or is that just one of those fairy tales.

  • nyb

The article is a one-sided platform for a Muslim to opine on the country he is occupying.

This is not surprising, as ‘France24′ is effectively the propaganda arm of the French government, with a mandate to broadcast favourable news to Africa and the Arab world.

  • Biff_Maliboo

I’m sure by “alarming” they mean “heartening.”

  • Seb

Fun Fact #172653: There is nothing that monitors “Christophobia” in France, the Middle East, or anywhere in the universe.

    • FourFooted_Messiah

      Or blancophobia, for that matter.

  • Seb

BTW, what race is Islam? Does anyone know? This article’s premise is like saying “racist acts against car salesmen”. Idiot leftists can’t even follow their own definitions.

    • MerlinV

Islam is not a race. Those who practise Islam do have a race. To the tune of about 99%, they ain’t White.

    • Katherine McChesney

Some of them, the Arabs, are Semites, descended from Abrahams son Ishmael whose mother Hagar was Egyptian.

How do you say GOLDEN DAWN in French?

This is only the beginning of the Resistance ! IF the Proud White French can kill White German Nazis (which would NOT put up with ANY Muslims), then the Proud White French can easily deal with the Muslims.

    • StillModerated

Well now I wouldn’t say that. In the 1960s Germany was crawling with Bosnian mohammedans and Turks.

    • FourFooted_Messiah

Actually, Hilter admired Islam, and made an ally of the Imam of Jersualem. He saw Islam as a proper warrior’s culture, as opposed to wimpy Christianity.

Maybe just maybe the French don’t want muslims overrunning their country. It’s not a “phobia” to not want large numbers of people alien to your country and its’ values to be allowed in, it’s just common sense. Muslim nations sure don’t allow it.

  • Whirlwinder

If the French do not wake up to the fact that Islam wants to destroy French culture and everything else French, then they will be slaves to Islam. Time to throw off their elite leadership which seems to be protecting Islam and not their own people and rally the troops and throw Islam out of France.

  • ageofknowledge

…but they can’t see how their once proud bastion of Western Civilization has been transformed into a North African hell hole.

  • Pelayo

It’s about time they awakened. Charles Martel at last had something about which to smile. More and more incidents and they’ll stop coming and the ones who are already there will go home.

  • nathan wartooth

” whose president has called for overt Islamophobia to be taken as seriously as anti-Semitism, which is a criminal offence in France.”

Sounds like they want to make speaking out against Islam a crime. After that you could be jailed for speaking out against terrorist attacks. France would be lost then.

    • FourFooted_Messiah

Do you know that the UN (under its guiding voting bloc, the OIC) voted to encourage Western Secular nations to reinstate blasphemy laws?

I think france was a signatory to this. So was the US under Obama. I thank whatever powers that be that Stephen Harper (PM of Canada) told the UN to go to hell.

  • fsagas

When the people don’t care about words, name calling, etc, that is when you really need to be alarmed.

    • gemjunior

I think you are 100% correct, and I think that time is arriving. I think people are really beginning to roll their eyes when the mentals start up with the name-calling; “racist!” “homophobe!” “Islamophobe!” “Hater!” (my fave). Yawns & Eye-rolling are a big step in the right direction away from the quivering, shaky denials and concessions. I see it a lot lately, I’m much more hopeful that we will survive as a race or at least put up a heroic fight. Especially after seeing Golden Dawn. If only it spreads across Europe. I hope it’s an inspiration to others. Between Golden Dawn and Generation Identity it could be like a wildfire.

      • FourFooted_Messiah

Damn right. I’ve been called every name under the sun – it ceases to be effective after the thousandth time.

And yeah, I would like to see the Golden Dawn movement spread, myself.

I think the only reason GD is even targeting gays is because in Europe, they tend to be marxists/anarchists who are shooting themselves in the foot by advancing immigrant causes (and even Bruce Bawer indicates that in his book about Europe.) I don’t see their militants as being much smarter here, either.

  • fsagas

““All forms of racial and religious intolerance are contrary to the values of the French Republic and should be dealt with accordingly,” said Zekri.”

You need to be dealt with accordingly.

  • NFL Monday

The French need to point out who specifically is baiting transient Muslims into France.
Then force it into the American media.

The French government is giving these Muslim terrorists instant immigration rights in the face of Frances glorious history.
When you put a European face on a Muslim your trouble is only beginning.
Its time to mechanize and move out.

  • http://profiles.google.com/senatortombstone richard garyson

All this for an alleged 175 “islamophobic” crimes? Islamophobic crime is a meaningless description of an act, since just about anything can offend a Muslim, and anything that does is criminal to Muslims and liberals. Many Muslims might publicly condemn the wanton murder of Jews by a jihadist, but, in private, most are likely to sympathize with or outright support the murderer. Also, the number of crimes committed by the Muslims occupying France is doubtlessly several orders of magnitude greater in numbers and severity to these alleged 175 crimes.

  • s shadow

France is facing a more serious fiscal crisis. The stresses could produce some interesting results. The French will only tolerate so much. Let’s see, who was it that said this? ” You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” Rahm Emanuel, of course.
I hope the French don’t cover the guillotine blade with pork grease, that would be a form of intolerance.

” National Observatory of Islamophobia” A france branch of the SPLC?

    • MAJ

Yes, it looks like the SPLC is now offering international franchises of its highly profitable US operation. And it’s less work than a KFC – why spend all day heating chicken when you can just lie and let the money roll in.

Of course, the Observatory’s President, Abdallah Zekri, sounds like an objective sort of guy.
Perhaps Abdallah might realize than most White Frenchman don’t want him or his political death-cult muslim invaders in France. What is he doing there in the first place, anyway. I think he should take it is as a signal to go back to wherever he came from.
Tell him that when Saudi Arabia and the other sand lands make it a criminal offense to in any way slander or criticize Christianity, and when they happily allow Catholic churches to be built in Mecca, maybe France will consider giving him a tourist visa.
These hypocritical aliens who have taken advantage of Europe need to be stopped.

    • http://countenance.wordpress.com/ Question Diversity

I read “observatory” and think of looking at something 100 light years away or more. Real “Islamophobia” ought to be far closer than that to France.

      • FourFooted_Messiah

Really. An observatoiry is supposed to give insight into the nature of the universe. This “observatory” is nothing but a shill for leftist propaganda.

    • StillModerated

      It’s spelled $PLC.

  • KenelmDigby

    Yup.

And in the mean time muslims in France burn down entire neighborhoods, openly deal drugs and engage in anti-police warfare, practise gang-rapes and fill up the prisons.
Of course, none of this matters damn.

  • JackKrak

How about a study on the “alarming rise” of incidents that CAUSE Islamophobia?

  • freddy_hills

Americans like to bash the French. Indeed, the rivalry between Anglophones and Francophones goes back nearly a thousand years. But, in all honesty, when it comes down to it the French also have a long history of being pretty darn tough. At some point they’re going to get fed up with this stealth sharia and they’re going to clean house.

  • http://twitter.com/AFreespeechzone A Freespeechzone

The definition of ‘crime’ by muslims is offense…muslims are offended by the very existence of anyone who does not support their tyranny against the MAJORITY.

Remember that there are over 750 ‘no-go’ zones in France where non-muslims are discouraged, in the strongest way, from passing through–and that sharia law overrides French Law in these districts. In fact, French police will NOT enter these districts. http://www.jewishpress.com/indepth/analysis/frances-no-go-zones-where-non-muslims-dare-not-tread/2012/08/28/

  • blight14

Needless to say, the comments after the original article are typical of a spineless people….

  • Jeremy

These muslims are foreign invaders and the French people have the right to fight against them.

  • fenway23

“France sees an alarming rise in Islamaphobia” booo-hooo-hooo!!! I feel so terrible…

If five to seven million white Frenchmen decided to occupy Saudi Arabia or Iran I’m sure there’d be an alarming rise in Christophobia in those places. Muslim countries can be Muslim-only enclaves but white countries have to welcome the whole world- or they’re hateful bigots!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-McConnell/563448640 Michael McConnell

I hope it doubles every day. France is the homeland of the French, not creatures from crapistain.

  • StillModerated

Is anybody in France bothering to tally the amount of crime committed by its invaders? They are born scivers with a heavy propensity to steal from cars, vandalize their apartments, desecrate cemeteries, push heroin, mug old women, and rape teenaged girls. 175 against that lot is a drop in the bucket. You go, islamophobes!

    • The__Bobster

I once worked with a young engineer from France who denied that immigrants were the source of their crime problem. I guess the professors over there engage in brainwashing, too.

      • StillModerated

The most severely deluded engineer must figure that French-born raghead = French.

    Islam is a Crime

  • Sloppo

In troubled times like these, we must look to the examples of peoples and cultures which learned to peacefully accept and appreciate the introduction and growth of Islam in their nations. Those cultures and peoples are pretty much dead now.

    • FourFooted_Messiah

Islam deserves nothing more than to be placed in the Dumpster of History.

  • Tired

This isn’t Islamophobia, this is self-defense! France, one of the most invaded parts of the Western world is waking up, at least a portion. I hope and pray that such an awakening occurs soon in America! God knows we need it.

  • FourFooted_Messiah

So, the French are fiinally waking up to the threat in their midst. Good for them. I hope they continue to see that their wine and pork products are more important than Muslims.

  • Kevin M

    TRÈS BON!

There was no doubt Deutschephobia when the Germans marched into Paris in 1940. Natural reaction.

  • i am

Anti-white racism is increasing in white countries as well, but it is racists to do or say anything about it.

  • i am

I believe Jared Taylor said in one of his essays that we should let the jews run things in western civilization. They don’t tolerate any foreigners in their country (Israel), even Christians, so letting them take over would be a positive step towards white survival. Don’t you think?

    • IstvanIN

Hate to tell you but they have been running things since the Wilson administration. Hasn’t gone too well. They may be good managers, Bloomberg is a generally good mayor, but their social positions, again such as Bloomberg’s, are highly detrimental to white, Christian society. They want Israel for the Jews, that is true, but they want the US, Canada, Europe and Australia for everyone else.

      • http://6th-resurrection.myopenid.com/ OBSERVER

Yes, we are the “nations” over which they rule.

    • Sloppo

Jews in Israel carefully guard Israel’s ethnic demographics and for good reason (self preservation). They can’t be expected to have the same motivation to guard ours for us as they guard theirs. Their advice for us is usually the exact opposite of what they do for themselves in their country. I believe we should respectfully ignore what they say to us, but follow their example regarding this issue.

  • pcmustgo

I don’t know what it will take for us or the Europeans to be able to ban Muslim (and other negative) immigration. I basically think we can’t because there’s now too many non-whites in our country who will never tolerate it….. The countries will have to dissolve into civil war first, and new borders established.

  • great crusades

Thats only a small retribution for all their christianophobia.

  • Fed Up

So people are coming to their senses. Protesting the presence of so many Islamists in France. Has France’s leadership already forgotten those not too distant riots by Islamic African immigrants? Immigrants incapable of comprehending that you had to have something to offer prospective employers to qualify for top wages. Then rioting because living off the dole (welfare), they couldn’t live as well as the French people.

  • Joseph

I’d consider it an ENCOURAGING rise in Islamophobia.
