The huge increases in migrants over the last decade were partly due to a politically motivated attempt by ministers to radically change the country and “rub the Right’s nose in diversity”, according to Andrew Neather, a former adviser to Tony Blair, Jack Straw and David Blunkett.
He said Labour’s relaxation of controls was a deliberate plan to “open up the UK to mass migration” but that ministers were nervous and reluctant to discuss such a move publicly for fear it would alienate its “core working class vote”.
As a result, the public argument for immigration concentrated instead on the economic benefits and need for more migrants.
Critics said the revelations showed a “conspiracy” within Government to impose mass immigration for “cynical” political reasons.
Mr Neather was a speech writer who worked in Downing Street for Tony Blair and in the Home Office for Jack Straw and David Blunkett, in the early 2000s.
Writing in the Evening Standard, he revealed the “major shift” in immigration policy came after the publication of a policy paper from the Performance and Innovation Unit, a Downing Street think tank based in the Cabinet Office, in 2001.
He wrote a major speech for Barbara Roche, the then immigration minister, in 2000, which was largely based on drafts of the report.
He said the final published version of the report promoted the labour market case for immigration but unpublished versions contained additional reasons, he said.
He wrote: “Earlier drafts I saw also included a driving political purpose: that mass immigration was the way that the Government was going to make the UK truly multicultural.
“I remember coming away from some discussions with the clear sense that the policy was intended—even if this wasn’t its main purpose—to rub the Right’s nose in diversity and render their arguments out of date.”
The “deliberate policy”, from late 2000 until “at least February last year”, when the new points based system was introduced, was to open up the UK to mass migration, he said.
Some 2.3 million migrants have been added to the population since then, according to Whitehall estimates quietly slipped out last month.
On Question Time on Thursday, Mr Straw was repeatedly quizzed about whether Labour’s immigration policies had left the door open for the BNP.
In his column, Mr Neather said that as well as bringing in hundreds of thousands more migrants to plug labour market gaps, there was also a “driving political purpose” behind immigration policy.
He defended the policy, saying mass immigration has “enriched” Britain, and made London a more attractive and cosmopolitan place.
But he acknowledged that “nervous” ministers made no mention of the policy at the time for fear of alienating Labour voters.
“Part by accident, part by design, the Government had created its longed-for immigration boom.
“But ministers wouldn’t talk about it. In part they probably realised the conservatism of their core voters: while ministers might have been passionately in favour of a more diverse society, it wasn’t necessarily a debate they wanted to have in working men’s clubs in Sheffield or Sunderland.”
Sir Andrew Green, chairman of the Migrationwatch think tank, said: “Now at least the truth is out, and it’s dynamite.
“Many have long suspected that mass immigration under Labour was not just a cock up but also a conspiracy. They were right.
“This Government has admitted three million immigrants for cynical political reasons concealed by dodgy economic camouflage.”
The chairmen of the cross-party Group for Balanced Migration, MPs Frank Field and Nicholas Soames, said: “We welcome this statement by an ex-adviser, which the whole country knows to be true.
“It is the first beam of truth that has officially been shone on the immigration issue in Britain.”
A Home Office spokesman said: “Our new flexible points based system gives us greater control on those coming to work or study from outside Europe, ensuring that only those that Britain need can come.
“Britain’s borders are stronger than ever before and we are rolling out ID cards to foreign nationals, we have introduced civil penalties for those employing illegal workers and from the end of next year our electronic border system will monitor 95 per cent of journeys in and out of the UK.
“The British people can be confident that immigration is under control.”

That always tends to backfire. The more you push diversity in the face of whites, the more whites don’t like diversity. Robert “Tut” Patterson, the founder of the Citizens Councils movement, still alive today, had an axiom to that affect.
Will an American politico ever step out from the shadows and confess to the American people what we already know, concerning our mass migration disaster?
I guess the cats out of the bag. The Labour party is willing to destroy their nation so they can stay in power. Bill Clinton even admitted that he thought that the republicans would not retake the house and senate in 2010 the way they did in 1994 because of DIVERSITY. Guess how we got got that diversity. Through immigration.
The government spokesman stated: “The British people can be confident that immigration is under control.”
Again, the BIG LIE! They get caught lying, and then they try to mitigate the problem with yet another lie. These people are absolutely devoid of morality.
Don’t buy the line about Mexican illegals in the U.S. being an economic necessity either. Without mass numbers of brown immigrants, the Democratic Party would be dead as a doornail. They were on the cusp of becoming an anachronism. Most whites had become economically self-sufficient and numbers of the rest were small enough to be taken care of by private charity. A self-sufficient independent white population would have no need for a Democratic Party.
Instead, the Republican Party insisted on importing an endless supply of Democratic voters that not only raises that party from the dead but also assures its own eventual self-destruction. I can’t believe I wasted 16 years voting for such fools.
The reason behind mass nonwhite immigration is not economic; it’s partly political but mostly ideological.
If we must play hard-ball politics, getting down to the nitty-gritty; if the reporter must play the ‘cynical’ game, why not play the game properly? Why not point out that an increase in immigration means taking in a greater number of voters who will vote labor… As long as you can keep your motives about it quiet. The excuses that they were giving to import crime, poverty and violence, was that they needed more taxpayers and consumers to keep the economy going, but I never bought it one bit, mostly because these people cost the nation more than they contribute, in addition to raising crime rates and causing riots and chaos in general.
What they’re doing is admitting to conspiratorily creating an atmosphere that has caused serious deterioration in the nation’s society, and an economic disaster that has them on the verge of collapse. This is a VERY high level of crime.
Too bad they don’t have the old school types to contend with now, because, if they did, the citizenry would be marching on Parliament and Downing street with murder in their eyes, and the culprits would be dancing at the end of a rope.

If you check the lives of everyone who thinks diversity is a good idea, you will find that most of them do not live in majority non-White societies. Much less, live in poverty in those societies.

I am (normally) against horrible and cruel punishments. But in some extreme case there might be exceptions made.
I almost wish they would bring back the traditional punishment for treason — drawing and quartering. This was abolished in Britain in 1861. Whiteplight, when I voted, as a long time member of the Sierra Club, to have the organization take a position opposing immigration, I and the serious conservationists were outvoted by the multiculturalists. The Club does nothing to address overpopulation.
If you accept the economic argument for increased non-white immigration, then you are accepting an economic theory-system of growth that requires the race-replacement of the Native English for otherwise there can be no economy that can provide jobs at high wages. This is an insane economic theory-system. Yet, they expect the Native English to accept it. Actually, it is more than insane….it is a fundamentally evil economic theory-system, for it is an economic theory-system that insists that the Native English commit race suicide in their own nation. This is just another way of saying that this economic theory-system harbors geonicidal intent towards the Native English.

#51 Whiteplight, Techno Dan is right. I don’t care what the Sierra Clubs website says. La Raza’s website says they are for helping all people, equality for all, workers rights and other tripe. No,they are for Latino’s and illegal aliens “rights”.
The main donater to the Sierra Club, a billionaire who’s name has escaped me, stipulated that if the Sierra Club takes and “anti immigrant” stance, he will pull his support of a hundred million dollars. Now, I ask you, do you believe the people who run the Sierra Club aren’t influenced by a hundred million dollars? It’s no secret what the phrase “anti immigrant” (read illegal alien)means any longer.
