Former Biden Advisor Says ‘Young Women of Color’ Should Lead Dem Party

Alencia Johnson, a former campaign advisor to President Joe Biden, suggested during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” Tuesday that “young women of color” should be in control of the Democratic Party.
The remark came during a conversation about the results of the race for ranking member of the House Oversight Committee. Rep. Gerry Connolly, D- Va., beat out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., for the position.
Johnson decried that outcome and urged Democrats to consider women of color for such roles instead.
“I care about my community first and foremost and the strategies that will reach them and those strategies are scrappy, they’re different than the old guard,” she said.
President Joe Biden’s electoral win in 2020, she said, was due in part to that “scrappiness.” Biden is part of the reason the party is not as diverse as it should be, Johnson added.
“It’s also disappointing that the DNC, the people that are running to be the DNC are all white men,” she said.
