The Fight Begins

Chris Roberts, American Renaissance, November 10, 2016

Now that Mr. Trump has won, we can look back on many, many examples of overconfidence on the left. With the media as biased as it is, and with the election having lasted as long as it did, there may well be literally millions of articles, tweets, blog posts, etc. of leftists condescendingly predicting a Trump loss, and then panicking as the results rolled in. Just one example that sums it all up is the Twitter feed of Bhaskar Sunkara over the last few days (note the time stamps). Mr. Sunkara is the driving force behind Jacobin, the new, slickly designed magazine and website trying to make Marxism great again.

That last tweet, of course, is where our sense of “we told you so,” should end. For all the media squawking about Mr. Trump’s “violent rhetoric,” that message was sent out by a man who holds Vladimir Lenin in high regard. Within 24 hours of Mr. Trump’s victory, he was on a panel in New York City organized by the Marxian publishing house Verso called, “Trump’s American and Anti-Fascist Organizing.” The guests were all hardened lefties. They encouraged the audience to participate in the anti-Trump protests starting up around New York City, and were advised that this event was “BYOB,” as in, “bring your own bottle,” as in something to throw.

I am on the email list of plenty of leftist groups and publications, and the universal message was: “full on opposition starts now.” As I write this, the top story on The Nation is, “Welcome to the Fight,” and the second is, “Don’t Just Grieve for Immigrants — Fight for Immigrants.” Mr. Trump has won, and that is glorious and historic, but make no mistake: The fight is far from over. There could be more violence against Trump supporters, and Black Lives Matter is not about to surrender. There have been anti-Trump demonstrations all over the country, some of them violent. Race riots may require even less of a pretext than they do now. If Mr. Trump does begin deportations of illegal immigrants, liberal states and cities may try to resist, with possible standoffs between ICE agents and local police.

White advocates, do not rest in your laurels. I hope you all have had a good laugh over the hilariously wrong predictions from our smug elites (remember the Politico headline in April, “Insiders: Clinton would crush Trump in November!?”). But now the fight begins. As Walt Whitmann said:

We take up the task eternal, and the burden, and the lesson, Pioneers! O pioneers!
All the past we leave behind;
We debouch upon a newer, mightier world, varied world,
Fresh and strong the world we seize, world of labor and the march, Pioneers! O pioneers!
