Oscars: Acting Nominees All White

Tatiana Siegel, Hollywood Reporter, January 15, 2015

For only the second time in nearly two decades, the 20 Academy Awards acting nominations went to a group made up entirely of white actors and actresses.

Among the notable snubs was David Oyelowo, who received praise for his turn as the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma.

In 2011, the 20 nominees also were entirely white. Before that, one has to go back to 1998 for an all-white acting group.

The all-white nominees list comes at time when Hollywood is fielding criticism for not doing enough to promote diversity in filmmaking. And just last month, Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin were apologizing for leaked emails that appeared to be racially insensitive. Rudin was nominated this morning for producing best picture nominee The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The Oscar acting nominations are typically a reflection, in some part, of the best roles of the year available to actors and actresses, which makes 2015’s lineup troubling. The two writing categories also were dominated by white men. Not a single woman was nominated in either category.

Do you want black, browns, mooz-lims, feminazis, the LGBTQIABCXYZ crowd, the ‘perpetually offended and oppressed’ crowd, etc., etc., ad infinitum, OR…

Do you want talent and merit?
(I don’t mean in the Oscars – I couldn’t care less about a Mutual Admiration Society of Leftists. I mean, in ALL areas of American life, which have been destroyed by leftists.)

Besides, how many black ONLY awards shows and organizations are there? Hundreds.

    NO Whites allowed.

    • Bon, From the Land of Babble

BET awards are not too black according to the likes of Sharpton.

Hope the Hollywood lefties let him have it.

Lefty vs. Lefty. What’s not to love?

I’m going to place a bet – on the Hollywood elite as winning this one.

      • B Baker

Anti-American lefty scum vs. sexual deviant lefty is one of the most fun political implosions to watch.

    • nBmnp

I’m pretty sure LGBT… crowd was well overrepresented in the nominees…

      • saxonsun

        But hardly more than hets.

  • TruthBeTold

The black man is always looking to the white man for validation.

    • BloodofAlbion75

And the liberal White man, meanwhile,is always and forever seeking “forgiveness” from the black man for 1.) exaggerated or mythical “injustices” perpetrated against him and 2.) for being born White.

    • The inferior looks up to his superior, and feels he can do nothing but complain. ‘How is that superior making my life so miserable?’ he asks himself.

Most humans are able to recognize value, quality and beauty when they see it. Most black movies are just stupid, violent and ugly nonsense.

      • Reynardine

Most humans are able to recognize value, quality and beauty when they see it. Most hispanic movies are just stupid, violent and ugly nonsense.

        • Bossman

Some of it is violent nonsense but with very sexy attractive women and macho men. I even watch Brazilian TV on my smart phone. Tons of attractive women in very short skirts just sitting there and others are up on stage in very short skirts doing a lot of wiggling and shaking. That is good enough for me sometimes.

          • Reynardine

…did you just make my point for me?

    • Cid Campeador

When they cease their savage behavior, marry their women and father their children; disciplining them teaching them values that make a person a good citizen, then I’d be happy to “validate” them.
We already apologized for slavery regardless of the fact that none of us had a part in it. As for Jim Crow (I’m still unable to find information on where the name originated. Most sources describe what was done but not the origin of the name) quite a few Italo- Americans were lynched in the South as well.

  • Oil Can Harry

To be fair there are plenty of good black actors.

The real problem is finding blacks who can direct and especially to write intelligent screenplays.

    • Should there be an “I dindu nuffins” Academy Award?

    • superlloyd

      An insoluble problem.

    • B.A_2014

I can’t think of many good black actors. I found Tupac to be a very good actor if I’m honest.

      • Ron Cheaters

Sammy Davis Jr was alright in his time.. a weird looking creature, but he showed some class.

        • Americaandthewestshouldbewhite

Because the whites were watching him. So he behaved.

          • saxonsun

I don’t know about that. He was married to a white woman.

          • Cid Campeador

Yes. The Swedish Actress. Mai Britt who retired from acting after the marriage.

          • Americaandthewestshouldbewhite

Then shame on her and she must have been a je(w)ess since he converted and became one.

          • Cid Campeador

Kim Novack was warned by the studio to stay away from Sammy Davis if she wanted her career to continue.
What woman or even an attractive Black woman would want to be with him; certainly not for his good looks.

      • Spikeygrrl

Whitaker and Freeman, as noted above. Add Sidney Poitier and James Earl Jones.

        • B.A_2014

Morgan Freeman is the most overrated actor working at the minute, followed closely by Samuel L Jackson (his only good rather great performance was in Pulp Fiction.) Forest Whitaker rightfully won the Oscar for his role as Idi Amin. I’ve never seen Sidney Poitier so I can’t judge. James Earl Jones had a smooth voice, I’ll give him that.

          • Spikeygrrl

            Thanks for sharing your opinion.

          • shmo123

I agree. Morgan Freeman plays the same role in every movie. The guy has no range whatsoever. But since he’s been around for so long, they find reasons to honor him for whatever reason. Hollywood is all just one big popularity contest– of course it helps if you’re pretty as well, but he and Jackson aren’t going to win any awards in that category.

          • saxonsun

            Followed closely by Denzel.

          • Reynardine

Forest Whitaker is one of the few blacks in Hollywood that doesn’t portray his own stereotype in the movie.

            Morgan Freeman: wise old negro.
Samuel L. Jackson: angry black man
            Will Smith: Will Smith

        • Charles Martel

          Denzel Washington too

          • David Ashton

He looks a bit like Oby.

    • pcmustgo

I think Hollywood should try harder to include more REAL Mexican-American/American Indian people in the movies. Chris Rock was only right in that regard. It’s only fair. If I were running a fashion line or Hollywood studio, I would try to give non-whites roles in proportion to their numbers in the population- nothing more, nothing less. 13% Black (Blacks are actually OVER-represented in Hollywood and Music of course). 20% Latino, 5% Asian/East Indian.

      • Cid Campeador

I remember the old westerns that dealt with Apaches, lots of the braves look like Chinese extras. I guess it was more convincing than trying to make a White guy look like a Chiricahua.

        • WoodyBBad

          They used Italians a lot.

    • Ron Cheaters

I don’t know. I’ve banned Morgan Freeman from being displayed on my HDTV.. he’s tarnished the Batman franchise for me.. I still like the franchise, but when he’s on I have to look away – I picture maggots and worms crawling out of those monster craters on his cheeks.

      • Cid Campeador

Didn’t he play the part of the medical engineer who made the prosthetic tail for the Dolphin? The real person was White.

    • ThomasER916

To be fair, they shouldn’t be in a White country. Not a single one. They can be “good black actors” in Africa.

  • Rush basically nailed it. AMPAS doesn’t want to reward media people, because their voting members are almost entirely actors.

  • Frank_DeScushin

Sharpton has already called for an “emergency meeting” with Hollywood execs over the all white Oscar nominees. He equated the lack of black faces among the nominees to the supposed racism that allegedly caused the Ferguson and Eric Garner situations. I really can’t believe idiots still listen to this fool; but, then again, the Idiot & Chief sitting in the Oval Office listens to him all the time.

    • B.A_2014

      I do hope your joking.

How about a meeting with the Nobel prize committee over the anti-black agenda that has lasted more than a century?

  • pcmustgo

Probably because most “important” films involve whites. Most Black films are low-class, like Tyler Perry, or grievance films. Don’t even get me started on how many wannabe Black, Asian, etc, actresses and models I knew who didn’t understand the ethnic demographics of the USA and didn’t understand why there weren’t more roles for “East Indian-Americans”, etc. They live in places like NYC and actually think America is just as much a black, chinese, pakistani kind of place as it is a white one. Most Blacks think America is half black and half white. Utterly clueless on the stats.

Secondly, as someone who sometimes tries to write screen-plays and has experience with all the races, what kind of Black, Asian or Latino character would I honesty write? A stereotypical hostile body language Angry Black Woman who hates white women “stealing her men”, a stereotypical boring Asian immigrant hyphenated-American whining about not enough “Korean-americans” in this and that, etc. This is what these characters would look like. Anything else is just non-believable.

    • pcmustgo

IMAGINE if honest, race realist Black characters and Asian, East Indian, etc, characters were put on screen. Most would just be hate-whites characters, brimming with hatred towards whites.

      • pcmustgo

So yeah, if I were an honest screenwriter, “minorities” would always be whining, blaming , complaining and/or bullying in my movies. Lines for Asians would read “Why aren’t there more Asian (Korean, Phillipino, Chinese, _______)-American in X, Y, Z?”

    • B.A_2014

I still like boyz n Da hood. Don’t be a menace is overrated. The best movies being made today are Latin American. Plenty of good Japanese and other Asian films out there as well.

A black James Bond is coming.

A gay Jesus on the way?

A disabled Romeo for the future.

      • Cid Campeador

Was the Black Bond romancing White Women?

        • notyranny

Of course, they have amped up their push to trick overly emotional, easily led, silly women to march like lemmings over the cliff of the Mudshark lifestyle. While there are a multitude of wonderfully traditional women, it makes me wonder if giving them the vote wasn’t a horrible mistake.

  • Abulzulm

“[O]nly the second time in nearly two decades…” Why then the uproar, among blacks and ethnomasochistic whites alike, and Al Sharp Ton’s self-parodic demands for an “emergency meeting” with Hollywood?

My sense is there are a few things going on: (1) Black filmmaking has arguably reached its nadir, and so the sympathetic docudrama is the last card black cinema can play in terms of a bid for artistic acclaim; moreover, even that genre has run its course: after ‘Amistad’ and ’12 Years a Slave’ and now ‘Selma’, the reservoir has run dry in terms of favorable subject matter; the rest of black history in America doesn’t recommend itself to a very sympathetic portrayal. (2) Related to (1), there are really no more promising American blacks in the cinema pipeline in the vein of Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker (who incidentally won Oscars without having to resort to white guilt); who are the successful black actors these days who didn’t get their start as rappers or “comedians,” or who don’t dress in female fat suits? The blacks you see in serious, non-Ebonics roles are increasingly of direct West African ancestry, among them the star of ‘Selma’.

    • TruthBeTold

I said it on another post a few weeks back that blacks have essentially exhausted their history and historical figures.

They’re recycling the same victim plot and it’s getting tiresome and stale.

    • Spikeygrrl

Morgan Freeman. His politics suck, but his acting abilities are second to none.

      • Abulzulm

You’re right; forgot about him! But again, he belongs to that last generation of classically-trained black actors, in which I’d also include Danny Glover, James Earl Jones, Sidney Poitier, Laurence Fishburne, and Samuel L. Jackson; even I can’t imagine any of them deigning to appear in a Tyler Perry joint…

  • TruthBeTold

After the Sony email leaks, you would think blacks would know what Hollywood insiders really think of them.

The Grand Budapest Hotel is an excellent lily-white film. Utterly original, ingeniously written, and beautiful cinematically.

Selma is just like every evil-cracker movie, and 12 Years a Slave—directed by a black man—won Best Picture last year. How soon these screeching ‘boons forget. It’s telling that even the most liberal institution on the planet, Hollywood, is tired of the white-villain noble-black narrative.

    • Katherine McChesney

Selma was directed by a black WOMAN.

      • phillyguy

and she is a white hating racist negress, with no talent.

Screeching non-Whites and their Kosher counterparts will never be satisfied. They’ll never rob, hate, rape, murder, or blame Whites enough. That’s why Amren is such a failure. Jared is on the Kosher dole.

This comment will be deleted by the Culture of Critique.

    • Charles Martel

Steve McQueen – not the actor but the black director of 12 Years a Slave – also directed Hunger, about the IRA hunger strikers, and a very disturbing movie called Shame. He is a legitimate director who grew up in the UK. The sister who directed Selma had previously only worked on small, low budget independent films. No one will say it but (1) she got the job because she is black AND a woman and (2) she didn’t do a very good job of directing.

Although she did not get screen credit, she told a interviewer that she rewrote much of the screenplay when she came on board the project. Note also that Selma was not nominated in that category either. Affirmative action at work, ladies and gentlemen.

  • Luca

Maybe someone should tell the black actors to quit acting black. We’ve grown tired of the predictable stereotype. And maybe Hollywood producers could change the storyline once in awhile. We’ve all seen that movie whereby the blacks are all heroes and victims and the Whites are all racists and villains. (Yawn!)

    • Cid Campeador

In Police movies, the criminals are frequently Italian if the movie is set in an Urban Area.
The Black hero always obliterates La Cosa Nostra singlehandedly. I wonder if the Wise Guys are out to get Al Sharpton now that we know he was a snitch for the FBI who in reality are as dangerous as the organized crime types.
Look at the people including two young women, who died at the hands of or on the orders of “Whitey Bulger” while he was protected by the FBI.

  • Pax Romana

Why should we care? I’ve lived long enough to know that caring and
compassion in racial politics only goes in one direction (white to
black). We all know that if it went “All Black”, that same people who
are bitching about it being “All White”, wouldn’t have a problem with
    it. They would celebrate it!

    This oughta be good.

Hope Hollywood fights back with a “tell-all” movie about Sharpton – maybe starring loud-mouth Rosie O’Dumbo as Sharpton. Careful who you poke with a sharp stick, $harpton, or that $4.5 million you owe the IRS might suddenly come due.

    “Oscars: Acting Nominees All White”

Why would that matter to anybody, but a black racist?

  • Hubbub

I’ve often wondered, eh, why Hollywood doesn’t mine the gold that is Black American history. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of subjects of historical or contemporary significance that could serve as matter for brilliant screen plays; yes, screen plays that resonate with all true Americans, White, Black, Asian, Thai, Korean, Japanese, Russian, Syrian, Iraqi, Irani, Somali, Kenyan, and now Afghans. While I could offer hundreds of examples, I think just a few will suffice:

    1. a biopic about big black Gen’l George Wash’ton and how he pulled the American Revolution from defeat to victory to begin a new country;

    2. a historical drama on the Trial of Dred Scott and how this Supreme Court decision paved the way for the emergence of the Pragmatic symbolism of Ol’ Marse Bill James.

    3. a Romantic film about the conjugal relationship between a mulatto Tom Jef’ferson and his neighbor’s Black wife Sally Hims.

    4. a show-and-tell movie about how Tom Alvie Ed’son conjured up the phonograph, motion picture, and e’letrik lite bub utilizing the VooDoo practices from his ancient home in the Caribbean.

Just a few ideas to give substance to the idea that, yes, there is a Black heritage to draw on to produce ethical and morally uplifting and true Amur’can history.

    Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

  • dd121

I’m not surprised the leftists and blacks want Affirmative Action for black actors. They want to be given an unfair advantage in every aspect of life.

  • TheCogitator

This is wrong. Whites should not be allowed to receive awards for a medium that they invented and have used the best. Blacks should receive all the nominations and receive all the awards. They are the chosen people and we don’t want them to feel left out. Only racist would disagree.

When will this nonsense ever end?

  • jim

I say simply stop watching any films produced by Hollywood and don’t attend or watch any sporting events. Let them rely soley on the revenue generated by the blacks they seem to care so much about. How long would it take for these entities to cry Uncle?

  • Cid Campeador

Hollywood should select the remainder of 2015 as the year of all Black films featuring no White people at all. All Black stories, all Black actors kind of like the Amos and Andy TV series back in the Fifties in which I never recall seeing a White person. Police, Judges and everyone else were Black. Amos generally was the beginning and end narrator and the “Kingfish” was the main character. It would be interesting to see the box office receipts at the end of the year.

    Hello,

I worked at a television station that created national shows.

Of the entire crew of about fifty workers, there was one African and one Jew.

The management made a big deal about instituting an awards program to give a five thousand dollar prize for the best member of the crew once each six months.

The first award went to the Jew who was supposed to be an editor, but every show he edited was rejected by the network, and had to be re-edited by someone else before the network would air it.

I was the President of the union, and some members came to me grumbling about the unfairness of the award system.

The second award went to the African who was supposed to be an audio expert. Again, everything he did had to be redone by a different member of the crew.

The entire rest of the crew was now up in arms, and I went to management and told them to stop it.

Management was aghast that the crew wanted to end the program, but then asked if we wanted to withdraw the money from the Jew and the African. The crew was asked, and they voted to let the Jew and the African to keep the money, but for the program to be ended.

The program was ended. It was a disaster.

    Just My Thoughts,
    Bill Moore

“The Oscar acting nominations are typically a reflection, in some part, of the best roles of the year available to actors and actresses, which makes 2015’s lineup troubling.”

I found nothing “troubling” at all about it. It is shameful that no reporter can do their job and “report” and instead always have to interject their stupid little liberal multiculture nonsense.

The supposed snub about the negro in that garbage anti-white selma movie. Common sense obviously won because that waste of film is a total money loser and flop. Just like the antiwar movies during the Iraq War were total money losing flops because people don’t want to see that leftist sh*t.

As far as best movie of the year “American Sniper”

White liberals have always thought that diversity was something they could magically bestow and toy with without it actually changing what they’re comfortable with. They think of Oscar nominations, places in schools someone else’s kids are having to go to, jobs at someone else’s company, elected positions in government, etc. as being something they can gift to minority groups to whatever extent they’re comfortable with, but somehow, magically, the country will always essentially remain white in its standard of living and its culture when it all is said and done.

I don’t care one iota about the Oscars, the stuff being churned out of Hollywood is unfiltered trash, primarily intended to reshape the culture or amuse while our culture dies. However, there is a teachable moment here, blacks expect the world to bow down to them every time they do the victim posture game. I don’t know how many times I’ve read Al Sharpton use the word “Appalling” to describe his sentiment about “X,Y, or Z” perceived offense against blacks, it’s usually something like him complaining about the lack of black neuro-surgeons being due to a white cabal.

Could it be, just maybe, that despite saying all the “right things about race” that the movie “Selma” just wasn’t that good? Could it possibly be that the academy found it boring, tiresomely predictable, and utterly devoid of any true bravery? That’s my impression of the movie.

  • The last thing they want is to be judged on ability. One of the more amusing aspects to this tempest-in-a-teacup is that what constitutes a good movie is quite subjective. Moreover, the Oscars ceremony really just consist of a bunch of Hollyweirdos sitting around and congratulating each other on being Hollyweirdos. For society as a whole, that isn’t a remotely meaningful exercise, and obsessing over it is a sign of serious mental health issues.

From what I’ve read on line, it seems most people agree that Oscar nominees should go to the most talented actors. And that being nominated just because you’re black is wrong.
Yet at the same we have Affirmative Action in the rest of America. Why do people see the unfairness when it comes to the Oscars but not everywhere else? Maybe what’s happened with the Oscar nominees can happen in the rest of America. Let the best man or woman win regardless of race.
I’m hopeful that people are getting just plain tired of “white guilt” and the race card being played ad nauseam.
Al Sharpton and his relentless attack on white Americans is actually helping people get over their “white guilt.”

The Men who run Hollywood and our news media are mostly all white, but not white in the traditional sense of the word. It’s those “other” white people who have an extra serving of “white privilege” So I maybe everyone else is getting screwed!

Tatiana Siegel who write the article is also white, but not in the traditional sense. And I’m sure she knows it.

    • John Smith

Hollyweird is filled with “non-traditional” whites like Spielberg and Geffen. I believe every major studio is run by the same.

East Asians wouldn’t be in the country if the West had kept to it’s previous policies.

Hey, if the Oscars want some diversity, they should take a lesson from the BET Awards.

  • John Smith

Are the Academy Awards supposed to be about skill or quotas? Why not just have “Best Black Actor/Actress” category, along with “Best Black Picture” to make it suitably diverse, yet still fair to everyone else?

Are they too stupid (I know, I know) to remember that last year a negro-themed movie won the major awards, including “Best Picture”? I would hardly consider anything about blacks to be a “best” anything from my personal perspective, though.

    • If there were separate “best black” awards, they’d still complain because their thespians and their movies weren’t winning the best-overall awards.

When it comes to blacks, what’s theirs is theirs, and what’s ours better be theirs otherwise racism.

And Sony is the worst, all of the executives of their parent company are Japanese! How dare they!

The good thing about them is that they’re going to die off much faster then we think. They’ve taken the one child off of the table but now people can’t more then one.
