Microsoft CEO Vows to Hire More People Who Are Not White or Male

Microsoft’s workforce, like most other big tech companies, is largely white and male. On Wednesday, CEO Satya Nadella promised to change that.

He told investors at the company’s annual shareholder’s meeting:

“We are focused on ensuring that Microsoft will be the best place to work for smart, curious people across cultures, genders, ethnicities, and lifestyles. We will make progress every year towards building a more diverse workforce and creating opportunities at every level of the company for all of Microsoft’s employees.”

It’s not an accident that he was talking about this.

Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, the company’s largest shareholder, was sitting in the audience next to Rev. Jesse Jackson, who was given the stage to read remarks asking Microsoft to do a better job hiring minorities.


When it comes to that diversity data, Microsoft, with over 100,000 employee in 190 countries, is pretty typical of the tech industry: Overall its workforce is made up of 71% men and 29% women; they are 60% white, 29% Asian and 11% other races. In technical roles, 83% are men to 17% women, with 57% of them white and 35% Asian. As far as leadership roles, 83% of those roles are held by men and 72% are white.

          “Silicon Valley” is a expression used to describe “tech”. It originated from semiconductor manufacturers; the microchip substrate being comprised of silicon. It was widened to include software.

            I said it right. The point another poster made was that Microsoft is in Seattle, WA. No where near the Santa Clara Valley area where semiconductor manufacturers were/are clustered and originated the term. I said that the term has been expanded and misused by non-technical boobs like Jesse Jackson and others. I work in semi-conductors.

I hate when people use the term “minority” in ways that exclude Asians. I hate people referring to non-whites “minorities” in general cause worldwide they’re not.

          The “dots” I dealt with before my displacement worked a few years. They would disappeared for a few months, only to return with a pregnant bride in tow. After delivering a U.S. citizen the bride would find a job,and her parents would arrive to provide child care. Being the parents of a US citizen gave the couple a leg up in securing the key to the kingdom the highly valued “Green Card”. They never left and often became management.

            I had similar experiences. The cultural Marxist social engineers have to have a token “dot” manager sprinkled across their diversity spreadsheet. Those “dot” managers make very efficient white displacement vehicles, given the fact that they just came from a caste system, where people exist in positions artificially. Displacing and replacing the most qualified white males with diversity dullards wasn’t the slightest moral dilemma for them; a caste system being business-as-usual in India. They, like those Paki pigs in Rotherham, have no business being in western countries.

      You need to realize that words only mean two things:

      anti-White = good
      White = bad

      Since hiring minorities is magically “good” they mean not White. By not hiring Whites they’re anti-White. The sooner Whites understand that economics is not “neutral”, the better off Whites will be.

  • Here we go again with one of my favorite hobby horses: That the definition of “diversity” is a moving goal post, that those that are the impresarios of the word can shift back and forth to fit whatever agenda they’re packing.

    The straight white gentile cisgender man can never be diverse. The black American is always diverse. Everyone else can be either diverse or not diverse depending on who is defining diversity at the moment. All the Asians that work in SV and related CSIT-STEM firms aren’t diverse when the tree shakers and jelly makers come knocking, but they are diverse when someone wants to stick it to YT about his demographic dispossession.

    So called “diversity” is a code word for “there are too many whites; there must be fewer whites”.

    Jackson is only arguing for blacks. Diversity for him only means blacks. Microsoft is very diverse and meritocratic already. The truth is the black bell curve won’t permit for more black participation if Microsoft wants to remain a leading company; if not, it should drag the ghettoes for the untapped talent of Rashawn and Lashonda and their kindred.

      Microsoft have had a few screw ups already, one was Vista (much of it done in India) another is Windows 8.1 which only really runs well on their own MS surface but can still be extremely annoying despite the time of put into mastering it. Their a WinRT tablet was rubbish.

      Hears hoping they go down the tubes. I’m looking at alternatives. I’ll try Linux and run on a VMware initially.

        Gawd knows Vista was a bitch to learn (about 2005 or so) then it died on me. Now I’ve got windows 8.1 and I can’t do ANYTHING on it. It’s nicely loaded up with all kinds of games and stuff, but games are not what I want or need. They can take their games and stuff them! Mostly I want cut/edit/paste/add pictures then print capability…I can’t find it on 8.1. Guess I need to buy word processor or something and add the software to this ~thing~. It’s especially nice that it doesn’t come with any instruction manuals that tell me how to do anything on it.

    Microsoft is already losing out on a lot of talent. If they are serious and they do go this route they will continue to shrink and fade in importance. Google is also dropping the ball in terms of the quality of the product. They spend so much time being activists that they’ve had some major failures which not a lot of people have taken notice of. Maps, Answers, Lively and a number of other projects. As they say, ” The opposite of quality is equality”.

    Diversity is fine when there is no diversity in one quality: merit. There is no reason to lower qualifications for blacks and Hispanics. Companies that take affirmative action seriously are going to learn that quickly.

        I think it’s all of the above – IQ and a stable family and a healthy diet. A whopping IQ can sometimes triumph despite the other two being missing, and a marginal IQ can sometimes rise to the occasion with lots of supportive measures.

    I know we all know this already, but I can assure you from my experience as a computer science student at a very diverse college that most black people are completely incapable of programming. A tech company with a lot of blacks is all but guaranteed to fail. They can’t even wrap their heads around simple logic. I kid you not, I recently spent at least 10 minutes explaining and re-explaining the logic behind the following Boolean conditions to a black kid at school, and he never did really understand it.
    A, B, and C equal some three different numbers.
    If (A < B)
    If (B B)
    If (C > A)
    C is largest number
    A is largest number.

    At the monolithic defense contractor where I work, we’ve tried for decades to hire “smart, curious people” from the non-white, non-male ranks. Guess what? We’re still overwhelmingly white and male. The simple fact is that certain demographics are naturally attracted to certain areas of endeavor, and no amount of pandering is going to change that. Will they harangue the NBA and NFL next to insist on more white running backs and centers? I, for one, will not be holding my breath.

    I suggest that you posters here who are predicting the end of Microsoft as it loads its employee roles heavily with illiterate africans take a step back and a deep breath.
    I have been thru this before with a large brokerage house, which I will not name. We had over two hundred computer systems people (I was one of them), of which exactly two were black. The NAACP and the city’s Human Rights Division filed suit against the company, and the company immediately gave in. Within weeks they had hired an additional fifty black programmers and systems personnel. Even put them into a special division created just for them. We never even saw most of them show up for work. Nobody had any idea what they did, if anything. When we had the big fancy expensive employees’ Christmas Party they did show up, with their employee name tags and all. No one had even met any of them. The company posted a five billion dollar profit that year, so hiring fifty no-shows to get the pests off their back was to the guys in the executive suite just another cost of doing business, like paper clips or toilet paper.
    Microsoft will do exactly the same thing. Gates and company have more money than God and the Pope put together. Hiring a couple of thousand drones and sticking them in cubicles will be nothing more than nickels and dimes to Microsoft. They’ll probably hire a thousand blacks and put them to work fixing the bugs in Windows 95 and readying the next release of Netscape..
