Fact Check: Obama’s Claims on Illegal Immigration

Alicia Caldwell and Erica Werner, Yahoo! News, November 20, 2014

President Barack Obama made some notable omissions Thursday night in his remarks about the unilateral actions he’s taking on immigration.

A look at his statements and how they compare with the facts:

OBAMA: “It does not grant citizenship, or the right to stay here permanently, or offer the same benefits that citizens receive–only Congress can do that. All we’re saying is we’re not going to deport you.”

THE FACTS: He’s saying, and doing, more than that. The changes also will make those covered eligible for work permits, allowing them to be employed in the country legally and compete with citizens and legal residents for better-paying jobs.

OBAMA: “Overall, the number of people trying to cross our border illegally is at its lowest level since the 1970s. Those are the facts.”

THE FACTS: Indeed, in the 2014 budget year the Border Patrol made 486,651 arrests of border crossers, among the fewest since the early 1970s. But border arrests have been on the rise since 2011.

The decline in crossings is not purely, or perhaps even primarily, due to the Obama administration. The deep economic recession early in his presidency and the shaky aftermath made the U.S. a less attractive place to come for work. The increase in arrests since 2011 also can be traced in part to the economy–as the recovery improved, more people came in search of opportunity.

  • OBAMA: “It does not grant citizenship, or the right to stay here permanently, or offer the same benefits that citizens receive–only Congress can do that. All we’re saying is we’re not going to deport you.”

Once they get the quasi legal status and the work permit, they will be able to do 99.9% of everything that real citizen can do, including, thanks to our weak voter fraud laws and enforcement, vote. The holy grails for the amnesty crowd are the quasi legal status and the work permit.

Obama’s statement was such an obvious lie that it hardly needs a reply.

      • Petronius

Exactly! The very first sentence of his speech began with a lie — at which point I turned off the TV. (I’m not going to have my intelligence insulted by listening to his empty twaddle.)

      • HE2

dd, nothing can top the sheer ingenuousness and stupidity of his comment about ebola.
Paraphrasing: “the worst thing we can do about an epidemic is quarantine it.”

In reality, protocol dictates that the FIRST thing done in the event of an outbreak of a highly contagious, lethal disease IS quarantine it.

A statement as this reminds me of children before they develop the concept of “I/Thou.”
A child’s world view is so completely egocentric, he thinks if he covers his eyes, others cannot see him.

In BHO’s case, any non brain-dead person can see him and the lies, but he does not seem to know that.
The MSM pretends they do not either.
This is an emotionally undeveloped, child like man.

        • dd121

Almost everything coming out of the mouths of these people is 180 deg. out of phase. The msm sits dumbly by.

          • HE2

dd, I cannot watch BHO speak.
His body language is infuriating to me.

He is one big “tell” of deception and sociopathy.

          • dd121

I can’t stand to watch him either. His whole demeanor projects ego and arrogance. When he glibly mouths his lies he seems to actually believe what he’s saying. He seems to think nobody’s going to notice.

    • Bossman

You should note well that under current immigration policy any citizen child can sponsor their parents when they turn 18. So it means that parents of citizens can eventually become citizens themselves if they can wait long enough.

      • Whitesneedtobebrave

Bossman you liberal fool, it is 21.I guess going to a ghetto school made you an almost illiterate. You cannot distinguish between 18 and 21.

      • me

        New. World. Order.

          Re: the 4th image

In a perfect “progressive’s” world, five of those kids would not exist. It is left to the imagination of the AmRen reader to figure which which five they would eliminate.

      • WR_the_realist

And that is why we must end birthright citizenship.

  • Alexandra1973

He’s aiding and abetting an invasion. Isn’t that treason?

    • WR_the_realist

Yes. I guarantee that the Republicans will do nothing effective to stop him, and of course the Democrats don’t even want to stop him.

      • Ike Eichenberg

Most of the GOP doesn’t want to stop him either.

        • bilderbuster

          That’s why they won’t.
Lip service is all you get from the Controlled Opposition.

  • Jaggers

As usual, the president gave a very slick presentation, which I’m sure will fool a lot of people who accept what he says at face value. Without any other context you’d think he’s all for closing the border and just being reasonable about everything. He’s going to deport criminals, etc. Amazingly, the AP and Yahoo news have actually taken him to task. Perhaps the low information voter will get wind of how mendacious his speech was after all.

  • antiquesunlight

Not only will they be citizens for all intents and purposes, I don’t think it’s likely the process will be reversed by another president, unless we are able to get a real rebel in there. I think Obama’s strategy is to make it such a pain in the rear to do anything about illegal aliens that granting them actual citizenship will seem almost necessary (or like a simple technicality) before too much longer.

  • One more fact: Obama’s actions will “pull” tens of millions more to cross the border, all from the biggest hellholes on earth, all thinking that the white man’s world appears as if by magic, and all wanting to drive out the white man once they get here and get established.

Obama just pushed the button that makes the former USA into Amurkistan, a second rate, third world country.

    • Bossman

They could always make a deal with Mexico to prevent that from happening. There is already a name for that policy; it’s called the perimeter approach for the security, peace and prosperity of North America.

      • Impossible, as Mexico’s ruling elites regard the US as a dumping ground for their uneducated poor. To the people running Mexico, illegal immigration here is a solution, rather than any sort of “problem”.

        • M&S

NAU is going to merge our economy with their failed state, granting all the benefits of U.S. organizational prowess as market depth to the 10% monopolization effect of Mexico’s moneyed oligarchy who have tens of billions of dollars which the Republicans DESPERATELY want to bring into our economy to cover the yawning black hole of our own debt.
Mexico has oil. Mexico has unowned land ideal for new cities and manufacture. Mexico has an entire underculture, some 70-80% of the population, who have _nothing_ and thus form a perfect market base to indenture with junk consumerism.
The ‘Perimeter’ that Bossman suggests is one of an expanded North American Socialist Union, similar to that of the USSR but with class privileges more in line with the pre-Revolutionary Russian Empire..
And we both know how those two experiments multi-ethnic rule by the idiot proletariat turned out.

      • ghettovalley

Peace and security being connected to Mexico, the country with the highest murder and kidnapping rates in the world? That country directly south of us where over 40,000 people have died in their violent civil war between the government and the drug cartels? How does this bring peace, security, and prosperity to America, merging with a dangerous third world dumpster of a country?

  • The All Seeing Bry

You can never expect a black person to follow the law, even when he is the law.

    • WR_the_realist

Especially when he is the law.

      • ghettovalley

        Chris Dorner comes to mind.

        • HE2

          Thank goodness Dorner offed himself.
Otherwise, if convicted, he would have received a sentence of community service, later a pardon by obongo when he leaves office.
We Whites need to get down with Critical Race Theory and understand that blacks and browns cannot be held to the same rule of law as we are.

          • ghettovalley

I’m a bit hazy on the details. I thought that they burnt him in a cabin? Or perhaps he shotgun mouthwashed before the fire could get him? At any rate his passing was no great loss to society.

          • HE2

ghetto, according to the autopsy results, Dorner died from a single gunshot wound to the head, likely self-inflicted.

          • ghettovalley

The perfect case to demonstrate how even the “good ones” can pose a threat to society.

  • Len Guini

It’s more like 35 million illegals. How many actually talk to a census taker in LA or TX or anywhere else for that matter?

  • The Worlds Scapegoat

White Americans created their own mess. First they let anyone born here become a citizen; then they let them vote; then they let all the third world garbage come in an have citizenship. All for the delusion that America is the greatest country int he world. People don’t come here because it is a great country; they come here for the free handouts. Stop the free handouts, and you will stop people from coming here. It is like feeding a wild animal. If you keep feeding them, they keep coming back. One day the animal will think he deserves free handouts, and will kill you for them.

  • bilderbuster

They have been telling us how to run it for quite a while and they’re never happy.
