More Questions Swirl Around NYC Mayor’s Top Aide

Jonathan Lemire, Yahoo! News, October 10, 2014

Mayor Bill de Blasio refused to take questions Friday about the latest revelations surrounding an embattled top aide who has become a flashpoint in his strained relationship with the rank-and-file in the New York Police Department.

De Blasio didn’t break stride as he walked past waiting reporters into City Hall after attending a memorial service for fallen NYPD officers. But controversy continued to swirl around Rachel Noerdlinger, a highly visible face of the administration, and what she revealed on background checks when she was hired for the $170,000-a-year position as chief of staff to first lady Chirlane McCray.

The Department of Investigation found that she declined to disclose that she was living with her boyfriend, Hassaun McFarlan, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a 1993 shooting when he was 15 and later served time for drug trafficking. The news website DNAinfo reported that McFarlan’s Facebook page, now taken down, had several posts referring to police as “pigs.”

The DOI probe concluded without recommending that Noerdlinger be disciplined. De Blasio, who has repeatedly defended her, has snapped at reporters asking about the aide’s future, declaring on Monday that it was “case closed.”

But two more damaging stories appeared Friday.

DNAinfo reported that she and her underage son were in the car with McFarlan when he was pulled over in 2011 for driving the wrong way on a one-way street. The officer smelled pot in the car, and McFarlan was arrested for marijuana possession. Police in Edgewater, New Jersey, confirmed the arrest and said Noerdlinger was given a summons for allowing someone to drive a car without a license.

Additionally, the New York Post reported that Noerdlinger left a $28,000 tax lien off her Conflicts of Interest Board disclosure form. De Blasio aides said she later updated her form.

The rank-and-file police union has called for Noerdlinger to be fired. But it’s not just her association with her boyfriend that has made her a source of ire for many officers.

Before assisting McCray, the most prominent first lady in city history, Noerdlinger used to be a top aide to the Rev. Al Sharpton, who has been a fervent critic of the NYPD for decades. He took center stage again this summer by leading protests over the death of Eric Garner, an unarmed man who died after being placed in a police chokehold.

  • 1. Why does the first lady of a city have a chief of staff?

    2. If she has a chief of staff, then she also has a full staff. Why does the first lady of a city have a full staff?

    3. Said chief of staff gets a NYC paycheck yet lives in New Jersey, even though NYC employees must abide by a residency rule. How can she get away with that?

    • phorning

Those are all pertinent questions members of the ruling class have interest in answering. De Blasio hopes New Yorkers don’t expect accountability from his office.

      • IstvanIN

DeBlasio is no Bloomberg, Guiliani or Koch. In fact people may become wistful for Dinkins and Beam.

      1) At best she should have a security detail and a social secretary, but she is BLACK.
      2) Because she’s BLACK.
      3) Because, drum roll, she’s BLACK.

      • Rhialto

Perhaps that’s all that Nordlinger does: Personal ass. & companion. Blacks love fancy titles even more than other groups.

      1. Why does the first lady of a city have a chief of staff?

She black and queen of New York.

      2. If she has a chief of staff, then she also has a full staff. Why does the first lady of a city have a full staff?

She black and need lots of blacks surrounding her because she important and black.

      3. Said chief of staff gets a NYC paycheck yet lives in New Jersey, even though NYC employees must abide by a residency rule. How can she get away with that?

She black and rules don’t apply when blacks be in charge.

I see a degenerate self hating Marxist and three negroes, one of whom appears to be righteously stoned.

        • George Costanza

I could never have mixed race children, I can only imagine what kind of identity crisis his kids must go through… There’s no way that the kid with the afro, Dante, can ever relate to his supposed Italian and German heritage…no way…

          • propagandaoftruth

Of course. His dad hates his White heritage too. You in the city? What’s the talk like there? Are all the libtards still glowing with happiness?

            From Crain’s New York Business

“Roughly half of New Yorkers approve of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s job
performance, a figure that has remained unchanged throughout the summer
despite heightened tensions surrounding the death of a Staten Island man
while in police custody, according to a new poll by Quinnipiac University.

Mr. de Blasio’s support continues to be buoyed by black and Hispanic
voters, according to pollsters, who surveyed 1,021 New York voters from
            Aug. 20 to 25. Sixty-six percent of African-Americans and 55% of
Hispanics approve of the mayor; white voters are less enthusiastic, with
            36% approving and 45% disapproving.

The mayor “gets positive marks on honesty, empathy and leadership.
He’s only so-so on most issues, except for a big plus on race
relations,” Quinnipiac University Poll Assistant Director Mickey Carroll
said in a statement. “He’s had his ups and downs over the summer, but
            there’s almost no change in his job approval. White voters are negative;
            black voters are overwhelmingly positive.”

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton’s approval rating has dipped to 48%
from 57% last June—lower than any approval rating for Ray Kelly, his
predecessor, during Mr. Kelly’s 12 years in office.

Rev. Al Sharpton remains a polarizing figure in the city, with 49%
approving and 40% disapproving of him. Only 20% named him as New York’s
            most important black leader.

Voters are divided on the way the mayor is handling relations between
the police and the community, as 46% approve and 44% disapprove. Race
relations in the city are “generally good,” voters say 50% to 41%”.

Whatever happened to the damn mob? Oh, Hoover died and Luciano’s pics of him “fagging around in one of our fruity clubs in a dress” didn’t work anymore to keep the feds off their case.
And they got soft and sloppy.
, Man, you things are getting rough when you pine for the good old days of the mob…
I’ve been seriously getting into “guido music”. Louis Prima – great stuff. Playing that stuff, like classic music and Johnny Cash, keeps

          • No matter how bad things get for Bill de Blasio, black women will approve of him almost 100%. Because he’s a white man married to a black woman.

Sharpton is above water (49-40) in New York City? That shows you how hopeless that place is.

It’s reasonable for the wife of a city like New York to have a staff. They are expected to do all sorts of do gooder activities. You and I object to the kind of activities this wife does as well as the Mayor’s positions, but it is reasonable for her to have a staff.
Does any one know for sure if NYC employees must abide by a residency rule?

    • Alexandra1973

Reminds me of Mooch and her entourage. They have to feel important.

      • SentryattheGate

I think Moochelle has a staff of 36!!!

  • MekongDelta69

    What is the problem here?!

She fits right in with DeBlackio‘s White-hating regime. If you aren’t a felon (or married to a black felon), Hizz[Dis]Honor has no use for you.

  • dd121

$170k aide? What was the wife elected to? Maybe she and Michelle are partnering to decide what people are permitted to eat in NY.

    • Rhialto

I disagree! Blacks are great believers in Freedom of Indigestion.

The 48oz. Big Gulp Now, and Forever!!!

  • IstvanIN

Why does the First Lady have a different surname from her allegedly legal husband?

    • bubo

I think they do it to confuse people when the inevitable criminal stories come out. Every time I read a story about black families none of them ever have the same last name.

According to Wikipedia, Noerdlinger was adopted and raised by Caucasian parents.

Once again, the nature vs. nurture debate gets tipped to the obvious conclusion.

    • benvad

I was soo relieved to see she wasn’t a half caste. The down side is her ADOPTIVE PARENTS were infected with that form of Caucasian AIDS known as Altruism which led them to feel sorry that thing.

Even more reason to venerate Margaret Sanger of a Planned Parenthood. She saw the threat a long time ago.

  • WR_the_realist

Crazy New York liberals finally got the mayor they deserve.
