Don’t Shop at This Wawa

William S. Lind, Traditional Right, September 25, 2014

Americans know WAWA as a convenience store, but to anyone familiar with West Africa it has another meaning: West Africa Wins Again. The phrase refers to the impossibility of getting anything to work right in that benighted region. I recall reading the story of a classic WAWA that began when a Western visitor returned to his hotel room to find the sink had fallen off the wall. The hotel’s engineer was called, and the Westerner suggested that when he fixed the sink, he put some props under it so it would not happen again. The engineer nodded, and the visitor went about his business. When he came again to his room, he found the sink duly propped up–in exactly the position he found it before, hanging at a crazy angle pointed toward the floor. West Africa Wins Again!

Now, with no understanding of West Africa, President Obama has decided to send about 3,000 American military personnel to the region to fight the Ebola epidemic. To the folly of a war without troops against ISIS, we will add an exercise in futility against Ebola. The only result will be the mother of all WAWAs as our efforts have no effect on Monsieur Ebola’s progress while they expose thousands of American troops to a hideous disease. Brilliant.

The press continues to be full of stories illustrating the impossibility of the mission. When Liberia briefly established a quarantine in a neighborhood in its capital, the average bribe residents had to pay to go through the lines was $0.50. Someone I know who has done business in West Africa told me, “The best thing about the place is that the bribes are so cheap!” Local regulations required anyone flying out to do so on the national airline. Not wanting to commit suicide, he desired to leave on a European plane. For $100 he got the country’s Minister of Transportation to personally escort him on board.

The September 19 New York Times reported on the result in Guinea when a team of health workers went to a village to give the people accurate information about Ebola and how it spreads. The villagers stoned them to death.

{snip}

The essence of WAWA is the impossibility of making anything work. Incompetence, ignorance, corruption, and every other impediment to function you can imagine–and many Westerners cannot–exist on a colossal scale. There are almost no exceptions. Should you find one, a local witch doctor will probably put a curse on it so that the locals run away. The world portrayed in Through the Looking Glass is a rational world compared to West Africa (and much of the rest of Africa as well). You had might as well try teaching calculus to camels as trying to make anything work in West Africa.

So into this mess we will now send American troops, who will have no authority, no power, just good intentions. The road to West Africa, like the road to that other place (to the degree they can be told apart), is paved with good intentions, and the corpses of those who had them. An earlier age knew the warning, “Beware, beware, the Bight of Benin, for few come out though many go in.”

{snip}

Once again, America’s womanized culture cannot resist the argument of “Oh, the poor (fill in the blank).” Womanish sentiment overrules all reason, all facts, all prudence. It’s as if the country were governed by a basket of kittens.

In the unlikely event that anyone wants a realistic picture of Africa and the bottomlessness of its futility, there is a book on the subject: Evelyn Waugh’s Black Mischief. Set in East Africa, which generally works better than West Africa, it tells the story of what happens to Westerners’ good intentions on the black continent. The sacrificial troops on their way to fight Ebola might find it amusing; Waugh was a brilliantly funny satirist. Of course, no one in Washington will be interested in the warning the book conveys. That may be the biggest WAWA of all.

My husband, while a liberal idealistic youth, served with the Peace Corps in Liberia. He later said that he would not be surprised if Liberians reverted back to living in the jungle again,, like their ancestors within two generations. They were superstitious, there were many young orphans living on the streets, high illegitimate birthrate, monkey stew was a common meal, and they were not capable of fixing things! While sharing an office with a USAID auditor, he learned that billions of US dollars, donated to establish rural schools (“to educate Africa out of poverty”) was instead taken by local bigwigs, who bought themselves luxury cars and weapons! They became warlords, and the local people hated the US for funding warlords! Then a few years later, Liberia erupted into mass warfare!

    • TruthBeTold

they were not capable of fixing things

A BBC news crew followed a group of Africans driving White farmers off their land in Zimbabwe. They then proceeded to burn all the buildings; house and barn with all the tools and machines to run the farm.

I watched this and I thought how stupid can you be. Drive the people off the farm and THEN destroy everything.

Years ago, I read a news account of black farmers. There was a photo of all the workers just sitting on non-working tractor.

I think they were either waiting for the White man to fix it or may it would fix itself by magic.

PS: I’m glad to hear your husband learned the right lesson. It’s not us. It’s them.

      • TL2014

The Palis did the same thing when Israel evacuated Gaza, leaving them all the sophisticated high tech farms. Nothing left of the farms.

    • dd121

In light of that knowledge, how could a rational person ever be a liberal?

      • TL2014

        Who says they are rational?

Google “Africa Addio” it’s Italian for good by Africa. It was an Italian made movie now not shown in the US. I seen it in New York many years ago. It’s stunning and unbelievable.

      • archer

I saw the movie in Taipei city in ’70 while on r&r, to my knowledge it has never been allowed to play in the U.S.

        • Peter Connor

It was shown in the late 60s because I saw it. Amazing cinematography.

Some space aliens take three pairs of Earthlings to do some tests. They leave each pair alone in a room with two bowling balls, no way in or out. A week later they check up on the three pairs.

The first pair is a couple of Germans, and to the aliens’ amazement the bowling balls are gone and in their place is an operational BMW!

Duly impressed they move on to the next pair, a couple of Japanese. Again to their amazement, the aliens find these guys have made a functional Sony stereo!

Really impressed, the aliens scurry on down to the last pair, a couple of Liberians.

One of the bowling balls is broken, the other missing.

Earth, only 2/3 ready for contact with civilized aliens.

There’s another expression I’ve seen fairly often: TIA (This is Africa). It’s used as explanation whenever everything is FUBAR which in Africa is virtually every time all the time.

Africa is William Golding’s “Lord of the Flies” writ large. Africa is like a continent inhabited only by 8 year olds. 8 year olds with automatic weapons and machetes with the strength and sexual appetite of adult men in their prime. The only thing they understand is violence and the terrifying result of this is right there for anyone to see. And perhaps it is because Africa is such a dystopian spectacle that so many otherwise intelligent whites simply refuse to see it.

      • SentryattheGate

Thanks David. I just checked; Netflix has the film :Africa Addio” and it’s now on my list. By the way, I know a (white) hippie woman who thought it was cool to have mixed race kids (with a black man who abandoned them—surprise!)—anyway, she named the boy “Addio” and the girl an African name also. Each of the kids always date whites. The girl hates her black kinky hair and wonders why her mother would want her kids fathered by a black!

      • Peter Connor

Looks like it may be on Youtube now, highly recommended.

“Farewell Africa” would be the correct translation. Stunning movie made at great risk – should have won Oscars galore.

I’ve been working overtime in a couple of debates against some WHITE millennials on other sites. They are so brainwashed, I accused one of them of being a black poser. Basically, I’ll end my posts with a link to a story similar to this, and in return, I get reminded that I’m the most ignorant person this side of Forrest Gump, and that my “kind are dying out”, and euphoria will be everywhere once that happens.

    • KevinPhillipsBong

One hundred and fifty years from now the dusky American hordes will sing protective enchantments and beat the brush with sacred branches to drive out the invisible white racists who blight the crops with disease and hold back the rains in season.

      • Rhialto

Equally possible would be the dusky American hordes praying for a return of the White gods who gave their ancestors so many magical gifts like: cars with aircondioning, plastic cards that produced food, witch doctors that actually cured diesease, etc.

    • dd121

And THEY might live long enough to see the euphoria to die down.

    • ShermanTMcCoy

Yes, exactly what may of us boomers said when we were young and ignorant. Then we got to know the Negro up close and personal.

    • Chris Granzow XI

I wonder how long that “your kind are dying out” punchline has been around and if it’ll keep being used in the future. I’ve had people say it to me a couple of times over the internet, while not realizing that I’m in my early-twenties. People said the same thing to the French and British who were against immigration—then shortly afterwards the FN and UKIP started taking off. It’s more wishful thinking on the part of the liberal than anything.

      • Stan D Mute

But aren’t you the exception to the rule? How many in your age group can see as clearly as you do?

        • Chris Granzow XI

Touché. I don’t know, I think more than you can imagine do though. They’re just not organized or vocal for the most part. There has been a huge backlash to the whole “white privilege” thing being force-fed on college campuses, which has woken up many young white men. The more mainstream it becomes (like in SNL skits, tv shows, etc.), the bigger the backlash grows. One of the biggest problems is young people being uninformed and/or being misinformed. Not a lot of them read the news, and when they do, half of the time it’s politically correct news sources like the NYT. There are aren’t many websites out there like amren, that aggregate relevant articles on race.

          • Stan D Mute

Sorry for the late reply – hope you’ll see it anyway. The important question I failed to ask is, “How do we reach more young white men?” Or young whites generally? I think young men will help deprogram young women (alphas will anyway).

          • Chris Granzow XI

The main thing is letting them know what’s really going on. The local and national news stations are biased. They rarely report on interracial violence and white people’s demographic situation (here and in Europe)—so a lot of us are truly unaware of our predicament. Reading the regular news and then coming here and reading the news—it’s like there are two different planets. If there were more mainstream media outlets reporting on these issues, it would make more young white men aware.

      • Bantu_Education

Its a fantasy of the left that, because “racists” like myself tend to be older, one day we will become extinct. Oprah exemplified this warped “thinking” when she said “racists must just all die”. If her outburst had been given the 24/7 publicity it deserved then millions of new “racists” would have been created on the spot.

        • Chris Granzow XI

I think older people being more racially-conscious has to do with the fact that when you’re an adult, play time is over. You start thinking about things from a realistic perspective, and making a mistake means no food on the table and no roof over your head. A lot of younger people know the truth, but don’t truly start concretely acknowledging it until they’re out of college and/or have children of their own to look out for. When you’re younger, it’s like a vacation; you have no real responsibilities (for the most part) and don’t have to face the harsh realities of the real world.

    • Stan D Mute

Do you send them to videos like the Vice Magazine documentaries on Africa? They have several in liberia specifically and a new set on ebola. Reading is a bigger commitment than watching a YouTube video. And if you’ve sent them to those videos, how did they respond?

To me, observing the African in his natural state is the best proof of his nature and abilities. In Detroit, one could blame the wicked whiteys who surround Detroit. Of course one would be wrong, but it’s nevertheless the argument these fools will make. In Africa they have no such excuses. Colonialism left them functioning cities, industries, infrastructure, and economies which they simply ruined when whitey left. And other african areas weren’t affected by colonialism so it’s purely african incompetence with no possibility of blame elsewhere.

      • Bantu_Education

You don’t need to go to Africa – look no further than Haiti..!

    • TonyWestfield

Cooper, you didn’t put quotation marks around “ignorant” but I assume that’s exactly how your antagonists labelled you. “Ignorant” has become a meme, almost certainly the most commonly chosen adjective among the vast hordes of Cultural Marxists (most of whom don’t know they are CM’s because their point of view doesn’t stand out, i.e., it is the norm among people with whom they communicate). The other meme is “dying out.” Put the two memes together and you have a potent piece of war propaganda: The “ignorant” people are “dying out,” and this is something to be celebrated. It is not a stretch to infer that, in the mind of a Cultural Marxist, the “ignorant” truly DESERVE to be “dying out.” The key to wartime propaganda is to caricature the enemy and thereby dehumanize them, which means it’s no great loss when the enemy dies–it’s okay to ignore or even celebrate the misfortunes visited upon people like you (and me). This is why there is such scant outrage from Leftist types when racially-motivated shock troops commit murder and mayhem upon their opposites. After all, the crime of “ignorance” is a perfect match with the death penalty. “Ignorance” is literally a capital offense if those who are guilty of the offense deserve to be “dying out.” This attitude lives in the minds and hearts of both classes of Cultural Marxists: 1) the snark-mongers who populate the numerous “comments” threads, and, 2) the shock troops on the ground, who commit crimes against people like you and me. Debates with millennials are not merely conflicts of opinion or attitude. We are in a state of war.

Remember the Nobel Prize winner (in genetics/co-discoverer of DNA/Head of the Human Genome Project) James Watson, in 2007, ref.Wikipedia: ‘ was compelled to retire as chancellor of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on New York’s Long Island and from its board of directors, after he had been quoted in The Times the previous week as saying “[I am] inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa [because] all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours—whereas all the testing says not really.” He went onto say that despite the desire that all human beings should be equal, “people who have to deal with black employees find this not true who lost his job after stating that he ‘felt sorry for Africa, because, after years of malnutrition, they do not have the brains to figure out their problems’. Nobel Prize winner, with ~50 years of living with Africans, Albert Schweitzer agreed; referring to Africans as childlike and lazy. Surprisingly, my library has Waugh’s book, so I’ll read it.

We have a fancy phrase for that: The second word of the phrase is “rigged.”

The phrase refers to the impossibility of getting anything to work right in that benighted region.

Great article. Spot on! Africa is a black hole that sucks everything into it’s version of hell on earth. Let them be. Let them have self-determinism. Every time the West sticks their noses in Africa’s problems, it just gets worse–for both sides. Let them be.

The behavior of Africans isn’t worlds apart from the behavior of Black Americans, though there are probably a higher percentage of functional ones among the Black Americans. Time to face the facts, White liberals: They aren’t “just like us” but with a different skin color. We can’t save them from themselves, so stop trying.

    • Stan D Mute

Everyone except the exceedingly stupid knows they are not “just like us but with different skin color.”

Case in point: since the beginning of the “Ebola Crisis” I have posted perhaps a hundred times in various places the following question. Just the question, mind you, no commentary. And every single time my post has been deleted:

“I don’t understand this at all, Ebola has been around in Africa for 50 years now. Why haven’t the Africans developed a vaccine or stopped it yet?”

That question you see sets the Marxist brain into cognitive dissonance panic mode because there is but one answer and we all know what it is. Must. Not. Admit. Truth.

  • MekongDelta69

When a viral infection breaks out, the absolute first option I think about is sending qualified doctors and nurses… I mean… a Military Strike Force in to fix the problem.

I’ve shot many things in my life, but no matter how hard I’ve tried, I could never get my Stoner to grease a virus. Lord knows I’ve tried, but I’ll admit, it’ll take a better shot than I was (and am), to double tap Ebola.

Years ago I worked at a car dealership they had two AA guys. One day the older one took the air nozzel and started blowing brake dust all over. It filled the shop before we could stop him, I left for the rest of the day.

Another AA guy I worked with was trying to take off a timing chain cover and asked me for help prying it off. I said if its that hard to remove you probably still have a bolt in there. I went over and he was under it prying away and had a bar in the top for me to pull on; as soon as i felt it i knew there was a hidden bolt (because once they are broken loose from the guide pins it’s just the gasket sticking). Again I said check for a hidden bolt, but he just forced it until it snapped the upper corner under the head.

There is more to this story, but that involves the stupid boss.

Yes, we are bring ruled by idiot women. I’m a woman myself and I find women embarrassingly stupid in too many cases to count.

    • True. I’ve said for some time now that our nation has become so feminized and soft, and all because we’ve allowed soft-hearted and even more soft-minded women to rule us – or at least to influence us.

I love women, but they unfortunately so often allow their hearts to run over their minds and clear thinking.

It would be a kindness, really, if Whites once again went into Africa and established control over the place. Seriously, would Africa be any worse than it is now? Frankly, I am tired of the brats of the Earth pretending to be adults and pretending to run the countries in Africa. It is time for the adults to step in. The White, taller, no epicanthic fold, adults. Just to make myself clear.

I did 3 years in guinea and the rest of west africa while working for the state dept. God help those soldiers we’re sending over there, and god help the rest of us when we get back.

  • Africa has nothing to offer America.

We need to cut off all travel from Africa, not just to stop ebola but also 3rd world immigration.

    • R L Buds

It’s funny Africa has vast resources: gold, diamonds, cobolt, manganese, etc. but they need our guidance to tap these resources. Then they resent us because they have jobs, WTF.

      • That’s right. I get sick of being told that ‘we’ exploited their natural resources – but if they had not made contact with the White man, if the white man had not invented uses for these resources, they would still be stuck in the ground, worthless, with the Africans not even knowing what use they could be put to, never mind them not having the tools/technology to get stuff out of the ground!

There was a programme on the TV here last night about 400,000 Afrikaners (ie white folks) living in slums in Africa. Of course, it was all about how the nasty White people went there, created apartheid with blacks who were (shock horror!) seen as uneducated and uncivilised – leading to “white privilege” that was all made on the backs of poor blacks.

The blacks were happy now that the tide had turned in their favour….but were criticising the high-walled and gated off communities of whites, saying they were the last symbols of white dominance and inequality etc.

As they drove around in their white cars, or rode on their white trains and white transportation systems, stood outside of their white civilisation formed buildings and high rises, it would be easy for the viewer to believe that all that would have been in place by Blacks if it wasn’t for bad old whitey keeping “the brothers down”.

But I think that is what Blacks always do….moan about how the White man built up a civilisation that worked, moan about how the whites used black labour in some cases to establish this civilisation, but refused to let them be a part of it……because they destroy it.

Then, like the USA, when Blacks come to dominate an area created by Whites, inheriting a structure devised by whites, it starts off looking like it can be carried forward….but in the end always collapses into non-functional spaces with degradation, chaos and violence not far away.

The Chinese know all about the resources of Africa though. They are deeply invested there, I hear they have been sending tens of thousands of Chinese people there and setting up mines other businesses that blacks work in (in no doubt harsh conditions).

Yet we don’t seem to hear much about any of this from liberals and liberal media….it is all still the white-man’s fault, and only WE are exploiting these people/these nations.

        • R L Buds

I see you mentioned the walled off white communities. A while back I was talking to a guy about Oscar Pistorius. Exactly, you’re one of the few people I’ve talked to here that has noticed. Fertility rates in Latin America are heading below replacement level. Argentina (around 50% white) actually has one of the highest fertility rates in South America today. It’s going down in South Asia, Central Asia, South America, Central America, the Caribbean, North Africa, the Middle-East…..the only place where it’s still drastically high across the board is in sub-Saharan Africa. I expect that in the coming decade the Democrats will try to capitalize on that and expedite visas and citizenship to blacks from Africa.
