A New SAT Aims to Realign with Schoolwork

Tamar Lewin, New York Times, March 6, 2014

Saying its college admission exams do not focus enough on the important academic skills, the College Board announced on Wednesday a fundamental rethinking of the SAT, ending the longstanding penalty for guessing wrong, cutting obscure vocabulary words and making the essay optional.

The president of the College Board, David Coleman, criticized his own test, the SAT, and its main rival, the ACT, saying that both had “become disconnected from the work of our high schools.”

In addition, Mr. Coleman announced programs to help low-income students, who will now be given fee waivers allowing them to apply to four colleges at no charge. And even before the new exam is introduced, in the spring of 2016, the College Board, in partnership with Khan Academy, will offer free online practice problems and instructional videos showing how to solve them.

The changes are extensive: The SAT’s rarefied vocabulary challenges will be replaced by words that are common in college courses, like “empirical” and “synthesis.” The math questions, now scattered across many topics, will focus more narrowly on linear equations, functions and proportional thinking. The use of a calculator will no longer be allowed on some of the math sections.

The new exam will be available on paper and computer, and the scoring will revert to the old 1,600-point scale—from 2,400—with top scores of 800 on math and 800 on what will now be called “evidence-based reading and writing.” The optional essay, which strong writers may choose to do, will have a separate score.

Mr. Coleman came to the College Board in 2012, from a job as an architect of the Common Core curriculum standards, which set out the content that students must master at each level and are now making their way into school.

He announced plans to revise the SAT a year ago and almost from the start expressed dissatisfaction with the essay that was added in 2005. He said he also wanted to make the test reflect more closely what students did in high school and, perhaps most important, rein in the intense coaching and tutoring on how to take the test that often gave affluent students an advantage.

“It is time for the College Board to say in a clearer voice that the culture and practice of costly test preparation that has arisen around admissions exams drives the perception of inequality and injustice in our country,” Mr. Coleman said Wednesday. {snip}

Same old same old, if you can’t close the gap change the test…again.

    • sbuffalonative

All this will do is ensure that more of the best and the brightest will perfect scores.

      This won’t close the gap.

      • Jesse James

Nope it won’t at least not in the next few thousand years.

        • sbuffalonative

This is going to raise scores for everyone. Black scores will go up slightly but so will the white scores. More whites are now going to get perfect scores but the white-black gap will remain. Everyone will move up a notch.

          • GeneticsareDestiny

Yes. The only way to get rid of the gap is to do one of two things.

            1. Make the test so hard that no one gets any questions on it correct
            2. Make the test so easy that everyone gets every question correct.

In both of these scenarios, the gap disappears. But the tests become absolutely worthless as well.

          • M&S

Yes. The only way to get rid of the gap is to do one of two things.

            There are other options.

When the YF-22 Lightning was evaluated against the YF-23 Black Widow, the ratings of the scores given by the Edwards AFB testing community (none of whom were allowed to fly both jets) were required to be given in a ‘color coded’ (I am not making this up) Red/Green/Blue format, specifically so that the then Secretary of the AF could make his choice without having to provide a statistical basis for his selection but rather solely on his own fails/meets/exceeds weighting of a set of fixed Key Performance Parameters.

The YF-23 was largely stated to exceed the specifications of the Advanced Tactical Fighter program, both in terms of supercruise aerodynamics and by stealth, both of which were KPPs.

The YF-22 was at best acceptable in these areas but had superior dogfight maneuverability thanks to it’s thrust vector control system. Which was not a required performance condition.

            The YF-22 won.

And so now the USAF fights air superiority like radar invisible F-15s (i.e. 1970s warfighting paradigm) rather than with a capability to fly 1,000nm radius missions in 2-3hrs as would be very useful in the broad expanses of places like Southwest Asia.

And short of color blindness, the SecAF could not make a mistake which would have got him called out on his decision because…how do you value blue over green?

Having realized that the 2400 point system only further increases the potential for widening the statistical performance gap, the same threshold baselining system will be used in further corrupting the SAT process, to allow Disparate Impact accreditation based on quota. You’re either in like Flynn as having met the minimum or you’re not. And where the poor, dumb, black, 13% minority especially has to be given a hand up to become a 30% ‘even stevens’ population in terms of access to good jobs, the result will be a societal system that no longer meets Key Performance Parameter #1:

            Excellence Is It’s Own Reward.

Which means that, where performance variations in SAT scores ‘no longer matters’, _they might as well no longer exist_.

Of course, 10-20 years down the road, when the U.S. wealth base reflects it’s majority third world society population, reality will catch up. But since the ruination of the United States as an independent nation state power is an intended outcome as precursor to a followon Globalist Rule World State, it won’t matter that we can no longer generate the kinds of technical and social solutions that truly high intelligence levels make possible in happy white societies.

Because whites will no longer be working for whites. They will be working for the brown and yellow Horde who make up the majority population /outside/ our country. As across the planet.

And anything above mud hut is an improvement for many of these.

Short Term: once the ‘SAT qualified idiocracy are in the door, their federal college money ponied up and the function of the test in serving the system of college Rent Seeking by mass enrollment completed, the true purpose of the test will have been achieved, no matter what it says as a numeric score.

Again, all’s you have to do is require all applicants to achieve a minimum threshold and then give no benefit for those who exceed that given standard. And performance differentials will no longer matter because compensation/reparation as a Social Agenda will be deemed ‘more important’ a weighting condition. By the insanely suicidal left. Their own positions being secured by croneyism, they need have no fear of stupidity dumbing down their own little elitist clique because those who adopt their position loudly enough will always be picked from the crowd.

      • Einsatzgrenadier

Let’s hope that gap remains open for some time to come, hopefully forever. The last thing anyone needs is a black race genetically engineered to be smart.

      • 1stworlder

Common core takes math problems that you could do in your head and makes you draw it out like Asians prefer. I posted a link below for a video showing how dividing 90 by 18 takes 108 steps(points of failure)

“A simple 4th grade division problem regarding 18 students counting off to 90 takes an absurd 108 steps to get “right” via Common Core?”

        • r j p

“Common Core” math will never prepare them for upper level math classes and concepts such as linear equations.

        • Fathercoughlin

When I saw “Common core” i thought,oh boy we got ourself a commie here!

  • D.B. Cooper

The new SAT will be easier than last year’s, which was easier than the SAT from 4 years ago, which was easier than the one 10 years ago….

    • The real goal here is obvious: closing the gap between the smart and the stupid.

    • 1stworlder

Why not just give extra points for being black like affirmative action.

  • Manaphy

The “gap” between the rich and poor is virtually nonexistent when comparing rich whites with non-rich whites, and when comparing rich blacks with non-rich blacks, rich Hispanics with non-rich Hispanics, and so on. The reason that there is a huge gap between the scores of the rich and “poor” is because the overwhelming majority of the poor are Black, Hispanic, or Arab. Nearly all of those who are labeled rich are white. The college board only wants to do this, just so that they can feel good about themselves for fighting “inequality”, despite having absolutely no idea what they are doing. For a bunch of guys who create tests, they really are quite stupid.

BTW: Prepare for Yellow John to blast off about Asian IQ/SAT scores soon.

    • Erasmus

Even poor whites outscore blacks from upper-middle class families. As others have noted, the black middle class is largely artificial and could never exist without massive government intervention. Left to their own abilities, most upper middle-class and upper class blacks would rise only up to head janitor shoe store manager.

  • Tarczan

Surpise, surprise, David Coleman is a darkie. Just helping out the bruthas.

    • Jesse_from_Sweden

Actually, this seems to favor whites, if anything.
Removing the subjective essay part and instead focusing more on objective question and answers.

It seems he wants to revert the test to what it was before libtards started messing with it to “correct” the scores.

      • Martel

If that is the case it may favor young white men, more so then whites in general.

        • Jesse_from_Sweden

A good thing, since they are the ones that have been the most disfavored by various changes made to create “equality”, despite being the ones that accomplish the most in real life.

        • Bon, From the Land of Babble

The new SAT is based on a curriculum that is decidedly anti-White with Whites portrayed as the embodiment of ALL that is evil in this or any other universe, time, space or parallel universe.

It teaches that Whites are the bane of the earth and the best thing that could possible happen is for the White race to disappear.

      • Bon, From the Land of Babble

It will be based on the new Commie Core curriculum which emphasizes global warming, slavery, colonialism, genocide of Native Americans and the Jewish Holocaust, with special emphasis on Whites as the perpetrators of all that is evil in the universe past, present and future.

There’s no objectivity to it, it is completely anti-White, racist and biased and it is THIS that the new SAT will reflect.

  • The president of the College Board, David Coleman, criticized his own test, the SAT, and its main rival, the ACT, saying that both had “become disconnected from the work of our high schools.”

“The work of our high schools” = Social justice pablum, condoms on cucumbers.

“It is time for the College Board to say in a clearer voice that the culture and practice of costly test preparation that has arisen around admissions exams drives the perception of inequality and injustice in our country,” Mr. Coleman said Wednesday.

If they truly wanted to make a test that was impervious to cramming and prepping, they would write a pure IQ test. Except we all know how popular those are these days. The only reason for anyone under the age of 18 to take an IQ test is to get his sub-70 IQ on the record for when he faces the death penalty later in life.

My family was low-income (I got reduced-price lunches at school), I had an SAT or PSAT in the 7th grade, and got a high score.

I was also in honors/accelerated classes. Hm.

    • It has always bothered me that free or reduced lunch is used as a statistical proxy or indicator for bad student performance or just a bad school in general.

      • Alexandra1973

My dad was disabled and my mom had a job that didn’t pay a whole lot, despite having been to college. My sister and I got Social Security checks until we were 18 because of Dad’s disability, which went to buy clothes for us and whatever else we needed.

Meanwhile the woman across the street was on welfare (White for the record), she was allegedly dealing drugs, and her kids dressed better than we did.

  • sbuffalonative

I watched this on c-span this morning.

The big emphasis was that rich kids were basically buying high test scores because they could afford prep courses. It dominated the discussion.

Few people seemed to understand that the exam tested for academic skills. You can take prep courses and they will help you feel comfortable and do better with the test but prep courses don’t raise intelligence.

The current discussion about the SAT is not so out of whack, it’s become meaningless.

  • 2eRep

More wasted money to keep liberal hacks employed. Negroes and mestizos are incapable of learning.

  • “… ending the longstanding penalty for guessing wrong, cutting obscure vocabulary words and making the essay optional.”

“The math questions … will focus more narrowly on linear equations, functions and proportional thinking.
Did I hear someone say, “Dumbing down?” They can’t just add a hundred or two hundred points to every black person’s score, so they use smoke and mirrors to hide what they’re doing. But we know, don’t we.

    • So CAL Snowman

“”The math questions … will focus more narrowly on linear equations, functions and proportional thinking.”

And the blacks and mestizos will still fail, world without end amen.

    • Jesse_from_Sweden

      You might be misconstruing this.

Removing the penalty for guessing wrong isn’t bad and removing obscure words will make the test more neutral.
And making the essay optional is a benefit to whites, since the essay is subjective putting more focus on the objective parts. In other words, much harder to give non-whites bonus points.

And the math questions doesn’t necessarily make them easier just because they will shift focus.

Personally, I think it more sounds like he wants to revert the test to what it once was, undoing what libtards has done to it the past decade.
And he’s smart enough to name reasons that he knows the libtards will approve of.

      • Martel

Common core has been designed by a dedicated team of ‘antiracists’ under the watchful eyes of Obama. I doubt they will produce anything which unmasks the racial achievement gap.

        • 1stworlder

CC messes up math from the way white people think and shifts it to how Asians think. There is a video showing a common core math book that gives 180 steps to divide 90 by 18.

        • 1stworlder

Apparently if you just know how to do simple math because it’s, well… simple, under Common Core, your answer would still be counted wrong because you didn’t do it in some convoluted, idiotic way that basically renders doing the math entirely pointless by the time you’re finished anyway. A simple 4th grade division problem regarding 18 students counting off to 90 takes an absurd 108 steps to get “right” via Common Core?

          • r j p

            108 steps ….?

I routinely lost points on algebra tests for not listing every step.
I’d be a Common Core failure.

      • John

I think you may be onto something. This is sounding more like the SATs when I was taking them circa 1969-70. When I first heard about this, my initial reaction was as most of the others here have stated, “it’s a dumbing down”. But, unless those are sound bites for coverup purposes, Coleman’s explanation makes a lot of sense.

      • 1stworlder

Its the higher math that blacks will fail most on. Although I don’t think I have ever meet one that could make change without a cash register.

Why are the Swedes such a bunch of lovey-bunny dreamers?

        • Jesse_from_Sweden

Because Sweden was an all-white nation up until two decades ago or so.
It’s easy to be lovey-bunny dreamers when you are surrounded by nice people that you have pretty much everything in common with.

All swedes had the same ethnicity, all swedes had the same language, all swedes had the same history, all swedes had the same religion, all swedes had the same culture…..

When you live in a nation where everyone really is equal with everyone else, on pretty much every level, and the only group differences that exist are based on education and income, which can easily change over a generation (when everyone got the same genetic heritage) then it’s really easy to think that everyone else also is equal.

An earlier effort to close the achievement gap was to eliminate analogy questions – which accounted for 15% of the total score on the the verbal test. Apparently didn’t help much. I’m glad they are making the essay optional – it’s poorly thought out, and highly subjective. The changes in math will help Asians most, because many (most?) of them attend after school test prep programs which emphasize the math problems which can be drilled for (which don’t require intuitive or creative thought), which Asians excel at. According to Steve Sailor, the SAT had already eliminated the most difficult math problems, the ones almost no one got right, which led to a significant rise in Asian scores and in perfect scores on the math test.

Lefties, as always, have an agenda, and a nefarious one at that. They well know that after six decades of intensive effort and one trillion dollars in wasted government money, blacks and brown will never achieve at the same level as Whites and Asians.

    Sept. 2013:

“Most Students Are Unprepared for College, SAT Results Show”

Less than half of the students who took the SAT in 2013 are ready to succeed in postsecondary education, according to a report released on Thursday by the College Board, which owns the SAT.

Must be those pesky IQ differences but the lefties that control the schools will NEVER admit that (except privately when it comes to their own children).

What’s left to do to “level” the playing field? Continue to dumb down the test –take out all the hard words, base the scores on knowledge of social justice issues, and claim that “writing doesn’t measure anything.”

(one of the testing prototypes I was privy to had several long-winded questions about global warming).

Violá — new “improved” SAT scores so non-Whites on the left-side of the Bell Curve are now “qualified” and college material.

The re-writing of the SAT also serves the dual purpose of catching homeschoolers and private schools who think they can operate outside Common Core: College admissions tests will now be entirely based on the anti-White, social justice K-12 curriculum. And, by dumbing down the SAT test, the scores will rise and thus prove that Commie Core is successful.

As for this insidious Coleman character, he is a lefty down to his “core.”

He has never been a classroom teacher and wants to replace traditional subjects with broad learning. He believes there is ‘a massive social injustice in this country’ and that education is ‘the engine of social justice.’… His mother and greatest influence, Elizabeth Coleman, president of Bennington College in Vermont, is of the view that school curriculum should be designed to address ‘political-social challenges.’ She emphasizes an ‘action-oriented curriculum’ where ‘students continuously move outside the classroom to engage the world directly. In short: indoctrination through propaganda in education as the vehicle for social transformation.

Mrs. Coleman founded a social justice initiative – the Center for the Advancement of Public Action (she called it a “secular church”) – “which invites students to put the world’s most pressing problems at the center of their education.” She was a professor of humanities at the far left New School for Social Research, which was begun by progressives in 1932 and modeled itself after the neo-Marxist social theory of the Frankfurt School. She fights for “social values,” and a ‘secular democracy,’ saying ‘fundamentalist …values (are) the absolutes of a theocracy.’

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is all you need to know about what Commie Core is pushing: leftist brainwashing and indoctrination — with dissenters drugged into compliance!!

    • “Most Students Are Unprepared For College, SAT Results Show.”

How many of these dimwits flunk out during their freshman years? Of those who do not, how many actually benefit from the nonsensical “fluff” degrees they acquire? How many degrees in Black Studies, Sodomite Studies, Inequality Studies, Disability Studies, and Drivel Studies does society really need? Are there jobs for these people in their chosen fields, or do they end up working as real-estate agents, insurance salesmen or – more likely – serving lattes at Starbucks?

If they’re non-Whites, they’ve got a government, make-work job ready for them with built in bonuses and advancement.

Many unqualified non-Whites start college claiming they’re going to study medicine or law without a CLUE as to what that entails — they’ve been told all their lives, after all, that they can “be anything they can dream” (pass the barf bag!!). No one tells them otherwise! When they fail, they inevitably blame racism, not their own shortcomings and quickly switch majors to Chicano or black studies.

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

The original purpose of the SAT was to identify intellectual talent regardless of income, race or geography, or as Charles Murray writes: to find a “diamond in the rough.”

SAT originally meant Scholastic APTITUDE Test and was designed to measure aptitude or inherent ability rather than academic achievement.

But, by the 60s, it became apparent that there was a marked gap in inherent ability between the scores of blacks and Whites, blame of which was placed on the “racist, biased, culturally insensitive” SAT test.

In 1994, the SAT test was realigned to reflect the curriculum and the name changed to Scholastic ASSESSMENT test.

The new, improved 2014 version of the SAT will also reflect curriculum — the new Common Core Curriculum — and the scores will reflect how well students have been brainwashed and indoctrinated.

    • sbuffalonative

I read a very good piece by a young woman in the NYTs about her experience with schools supposedly looking for the best and brightest in then hinterlands.

She was able to get into Harvard because she had the grades and she was helped and encouraged by teachers.

However, she said none of the big name schools ever showed up at her tiny town to look for ‘diamonds in the rough’.

Now I know Yale and Harvard reps can’t go to every school in small town America but she noted there was no information being given to students.

It may well have been the goal in the past but I think the big name schools aren’t much interested in outreach as they like to believe they are. It’s a myth ‘progressive’ leftists tell each other to feel good about themselves.

      • Bon, From the Land of Babble

        Charles Murray writes:

Back in 1961, the test helped get me into Harvard from a small Iowa town by giving me a way to show that I could compete with applicants from Exeter and Andover. Ever since, I have seen the SAT as the friend of the little guy, just as James Bryant Conant, president of Harvard, said it would be when he urged the SAT upon the nation in the 1940s.

When Murray took the SATs in the early 60s and applied to Harvard, the process wasn’t as political as it is now with non-White demands, AA mandates and quotas, dumbing down of the tests, etc. The SAT was a de facto IQ test at that time and race wasn’t an issue; only raw intelligence mattered in admissions (imagine that).

Representatives from the “big schools” in the east most likely didn’t visit his small town in Iowa either, but he certainly knew about Harvard and most likely sent the application in via US mail.

My dad came from sheer, dirt poverty and was able to attend Perdue, which was free at the time to residents of the state of Indiana, where he studied physics and engineering and graduated with honors.

These days, universities like Harvard and Princeton send applications into most of the high schools in my district — a district where the vast majority of the students don’t have a prayer of going to the likes of Harvard or Princeton — or any other college for that matter.

But with massive amounts of admission forms coming in and the $$ it generates (not for the students, for them it is free to apply due to low income, etc.) — all so Harvard can say: “We only accept one out of a (1,000, 5,000) or whatever the number is so Harvard can keep its über-elite status.

“It may well have been the goal in the past but I think the big name schools aren’t much interested in outreach as they like to believe they are.”

They’re not at all interested in actually searching for intelligent poor kids because when they do, they tend to wind up with a lot of white kids from flyover country.

These are the people they despise most, so they do whatever they can to avoid admitting them, even if the kids do have fantastic SAT scores.

Such constant manipulations employing one scheme or another all because academia refuses to accept the fact that blacks can’t compete on the same level as most everybody else.

Integration has been a total failure, and the shameless white weenies who support it are an absolute disgrace to mankind.

I wish that were an option in Germany.

      • Mergatroyd

true. At least the German homeschooled family was allowed to stay in the U.S. The USG tried to kick them out. A small bit of good news this week along with the blocking of the appointment of that white-hating ,radical comrade of Obama’s.

Many of the high schools are failures, so the SAT should be a failure too.

High Schools are not failing, the being inside are.

  • OhWow

We now live in a culture where if a black kid strikes out, it’s not because the pitcher is better than him, it’s because the game is racist.

Yep. That’s why everyone is given a trophy or medal at the end of each game so everyone is a winner.

Standardized testing has been a joke for a very long time. The problem is VERY much one of ignorance. Specifically, people are ignoring what the term standardized means. It means meeting a certain standard….as opposed to not meeting it. An either/or situation. Are you suited for the investment of time, money, effort etc. necessary from both individual and institution, or aren’t you. Instead, people (white people) accept all manner of nonsense in a scramble to find some measurable way to prove they are better than average.
Newsflash….you are not. If you get a perfect score on some standardized test like the SAT, ACT, IQ, whatever, it is no different than someone who tests average for college educable people. No better, and perhaps worse. After all, people can train (and many do) to do well on these tests…making the test pointless. I can train a nimrod to get a perfect score on the SAT. Will he in fact do better in college than the next guy? No.
The biggest joke of all is college itself. It is worthless….teaching absolutely nothing of use or merit. Dumbed down to the point of absurdity. Literally, most college educations, most masters and many doctorates have negative earning potential. Over your lifetime, you will not make substantially more, because of the degree than you will have to pay for the conceit of having a piece of paper, certified by people even more stupid than you. Truly, is there a group in our society as worthless while having an overblown sense of importance as college professors?
And all this to prevent admitting what was obvious to our people (to ALL peoples) two thousand years ago. White people are superior to all others….physically, morally, but most intensely intellectually.
Humanity. Civilization. Wisdom. Altruism. And yes….intelligence. All these are simply euphemisms for white.
The 2 second test for if you should be admitted to a college or not (based on merit). Is your skin white? Yes? Then yes, you are college material. Which is to say you can understand, function in and excel in a first world, civilized society.

    • IstvanIN

I disagree on one point: a bachelors degree is now used as an entry-level job requirement, sort of like a HS diploma, to weed out the dumbest of the dumb.

      • ShermanTMcCoy

Perhaps, but a degree in Black or Womyn’s studies is a pretty fair indication that the holder is one of the “dumbest of the dumb.”

        • Mergatroyd

Those departments were set up to get blacks and radical feminists degrees, those who can’t handle the math. Blacks will get government jobs and rise up through the ranks, the feminists, if they’re white and non-Jews are the ones who are screwed. The Jewish wymmin will join the ACLU, NOW or other J-run leftist organizations that fight to end the white race.

          • saxonsun

I’m a feminist, you frightened little man, and I earned my way on my own with no help from your sort.

    • The value of a college degree depends on what one has studied. I made enough working as a chemical engineer in the microelectronics industry to pay off my townhouse at the age of 38. I was planning to get married and did this because I wanted the house to obviously be a pre-existing asset. That way – and with a pre-nup – I wouldn’t lose it if the marriage went south. I would therefore say my education was worthwhile.

  • DaveMed

    “cutting obscure vocabulary words”

Those “obscure” words used to be part of the vocabulary of the educated class. Now, however, the only prerequisite for joining the ranks of the “enlightened” is the ability to parrot memes and cliches relating to various grievances. Go visit a college. Most of the students you’ll see are slobbering buffoons.

    • ShermanTMcCoy

      Words like “obscure”, I’d imagine.

      • Grantland

        And “Jude” too, without question.

Blacks are so full of themselves and have gotten such privilege that think it’s OK to call 911 if they don’t get enough chicken McNuggets or aren’t given enough napkins.

Sad thing is, they’ll most likely find a sympathetic judge that will award them millions for not getting enough napkins with their order.

  • BillMillerTime

When all else fails, lower your standards.

  • Truth Teller

No matter what they say, the admissions committees looks at only 2 things, the race and the poor, poor, pitiful me essay. The easiest way to get into the college of your choice is to check the black box and make up a story about your poverty stricken life. If you grew up in a prosperous suburb, claim your Mom was a maid and you lived in a room above the garage.
Otherwise just go on and about the challenges you faced growing up in the ghetto.
You’ll get a full scholarship to the college of your choice. Whites can no longer be honest and moral. We must learn to lie, cheat, steal and connive as the minorities and immigrants do. Stay White and die. Lie, cheat and live.
These new SATs won’t just raise black and Hispanic scores. Like the few civil service exams left, they will just subtract points from the White scores. We are the Kulaks of America.

    • jackryanvb

Also, legally change your last name to Hispanic, grow wild hair and act “angry”, talk about “my people”.

If that doesn’t work, pretend you are gay, if you don’t get everything you want, sue, charge homophobic hate crimes.

    • Grantland

      ‘Hell with that.

  • Truth Teller

90/18 can be done in a couple steps without even thinking. 18 goes into 90 5 times is just obvious. I didn’t think about it, I just knew it . Proof is easy, 5X8=40 carry the 4. 5X1=5 add 4+5=9 0
    There is a strange way they teach multiplication these days. Example 48X2 Subtract 40 from 8 = 40 Multiply 40 X2=80. Multiply 8X2=16 Add 80 +16=96
That is not so bad, just 4 steps instead of 3. I suppose the students will have to show all the steps not just the answer.
I remember a few years ago the feminazis and their non White running dogs came up with a math grading system that involved giving points for wrong answers if some of the steps were correct.
FYI California stopped teaching or using cursive writing years ago. Even the teachers print. California does not really teach printing either. Printing is taught in Kindergarten for a month and then no more practice or instruction. 4th graders print as badly as first semester Kindergartners because they never practiced enough to do it well. Excuse is that writing is no longer necessary as everyone will be permanently attached to a cell phone or Ipad whatever. But the schools don’t teach typing either.
Now we know why Bill Ayers became an education prof rather than political science or social justice prof. And the university of Illinois gave him a job and forum from which to preach his commie poison.

    • r j p

I would have never thought I have been doing simple math Common Core style for years. But I was never taught that way.

      97 x 3 = 100 x 3 – 3 x 3
      18 x 36 = 9 x 9 x 4 x 2

But I created my system so I could do it in my head.

      • Grantland

I thought we all did it like that.

      • Certainly, and 19 X 19 = (10 X 10) + (20 X 9) + (9 X 9)!

    • saxonsun

But don’t you folks profess to admire the Germans?

    • Grantland

  • Truth Teller

The common core math with 108 steps to divide 90 by 18 will actually be much harder for blacks. It’s easier for blacks to do the old estimate and prove division method. They are so impatient they will not be able to stick to the 108 steps and will just give up after 8 or less steps.
I think common core is also an excuse for a massive job program for non White and feminazi racist radicals to train the teachers in this c**p. Add the training workshops about the mandated non discipline of the OFE savages and it’s a massive jobs program for Obama followers. I’m glad I’m not a teacher. They can look forward to years of Saturdays, vacations and evenings spent in maoist brainwashing sessions. I can imagine the role playing. How does a 120 pd White woman teacher “defuse” a 240 pd OFE monster from beating her to a pulp.

    • Grantland

” and it’s a massive jobs program for Obama followers”

That’s just a minor side-benefit. They are trying to destroy our children!

  • Truth Teller

There was a police exam that was popular for years that was designed specifically for blacks and Hispanics who could not read. They watched videos of crimes in progress. Then a recording read out the questions and the 4 possible answers.
It didn’t matter if they failed. Enough points were added to their scores to pass with a high score. Enough points were subtracted from the scores of Whites to make them fail.
Before it became a propaganda outlet for the government of Israel, NR had an article about a New York City police sergeant exam. The department held black and Hispanic only cram classes for a year. Despite this every black and Hispanic flunked. The NY state and then federal courts threw out the exam on the grounds of disparate impact and told the department to try again.
Meanwhile, many sergeants retired and there were no sergeants to take their place.

  • Truth Teller

Word problems were eliminated decades ago because blacks and Hispanics could not read them let alone solve them.

Read Bon’s explanation of common core. What it means is that kids who attend even the best private schools will do badly on the SATs because the SAT’s cover only commie core subjects.
So even Andover, Exeter, St. Paul’s, Milton St. Timothy’s etc will have to switch to common core if they want their students to pass.
Bennnington. It was originally started as a place to store debutantes who didn’t have the brains to get into Radcliffe, Barnard, Vassar, Wellesley, or Manhattanville. for a few years. It was very similar to haute bohemian radical Sarah Lawrence but isolated in rural Vermont.
It quickly morphed into a lesbian radical commie enclave. For years it’s most popular major was modern dance. Bennington is even more weird and elite than Antioch and Oberlin.
Because it was a weirdo lesbian radical enclave Bennington was never highly regarded in elite circles. Now the radical loon President of Bennington rules the nations public and private schools.
Who can doubt that the destruction of American Whites was planned 100 years ago in radical circles.

I read an article once about the employment prospects of that years sociology piled higher and deeper degrees. There were more than700 sociology PHDs that year. There were exactly 4 openings. All openings were part time yearly contract non tenure positions in community colleges. The article pointed out that that years grads were also competing with grads of many previous years.
It really cheered me up to read that the enemy was screwed. Subtract lost opportunity costs and they would have been better off working full time minimum wage.

    • Mergatroyd

The only ones screwed are white graduates. non-whites have government jobs waiting for them.

      • paul marchand

Yep. Nothing to do with merit. Everything to do with affirmative action. Skin color does the trick. In fed govt hiring, state govt hiring, federal contracts.
AND, in the private sector, with quotas.
The federal government is the foe of the responsible.

Every exam will include a reading passage either from one of the
nation’s “founding documents,” such as the Declaration of Independence
or the Bill of Rights, or from one of the important discussions of such
texts, such as the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter From
    Birmingham Jail.”

But of course, I’m sure we all equate the Bill of Rights to Michael Kings letter from the Birmingham jail…..in addition, the grocery list found in his pocket ‘on that fateful morning’ is on par with the Constitution.

“ending the longstanding penalty for guessing wrong, cutting obscure vocabulary words and making the essay optional.”

Because not knowing that guessing wrong has repercussions, not knowing the English language and not knowing how to communicate properly has always worked out in the past, right?

“Mr. Coleman came to the College Board in 2012, from a job as an architect of the Common Core curriculum standards, which set out the content that students must master at each level and are now making their way into school.”

Oh, so we finally identify one of the friggin morons who came up with that Common Core garbage!!! The goal of Core isn’t to teach our kids the three R’s or anything productive, it’s to program them into good little proles, agitators, “community organizers”, etc… has anyone here seen the freakin MATHS section? I have never in my life seen such gobbledygook. Rote memorization of multiplication tables? Nope. Long division? Nope. All that is gone.

Want to blow your porch light? Look up “Common Core Communist” in any search engine… if you aren’t scared by what you find, then you deserve common core…

    • Mergatroyd

I never did any writing in college did you?

I thought Texas had Conservative text book movements 20 years ago.

Did Neo Conservatism gut this as well.

      • Malgus

I’m rather fuzzy on the origins of Core, but apparently it started as an idea back under W. Gained steam under O’s first term, then got implemented during the beginning of his second… classical literature is being replaced by technical manuals, the maths section is nonsense, cursive writing isn’t even taught anymore! I was writing cursive in 2nd grade!

The goobermint dangled a carrot out for the states and commonwealths – here’s millions of dollars. If you took the King’s Shilling (and where we live, Kentucky, did), then you were mandated to teach Core. That was a couple years ago, and nobody knew what it was…

        What it is, is brainwashing.

Luckily, I take an extremely active role in my son’s education… I’m about this close >< to yanking him and home-schooling him. My father, God bless his heart, saved all his old maths books. The difference between his books and my sons books are downright comical. Dad's books – slim, trim, to the point. My son's books – gigantic, heavy, and heavy on colorful graphics and nonsense (what in the hell are "10-sticks"?). Maths, statistics, engineering, physics, fluids and solids… all are because of my father. Mamma gave us the classics. I provided works from the Enlightenment, ancient sources and also traditional trades. My wife schools him in German.

He's kicking serious butt in school, but not because of what THEY teach him – I spend time every day undoing that mess – but because of what WE teach him after he comes home.

Meh… might as well home school at this point. Save me the effort of undoing the damage… but undoing the damage gives me a good idea of the garbage they're pushing on kids in school these days.

        • jackryanvb

We need to form new, private schools using the best home school teachers to teach other White children. Not everyone has the time and financial resources to home school, plus positive White schools are a good thing. The first part of the 20th century saw the start of thousands of White private schools, seems like Whites have pretty much wasted the last 50 years simply complaining about education and not doing the basics, start new schools.

    All minority students must be…

    “Above average”

The next step is to simply embrace Ebonics where “bad means good”.

Non White students who embrace White norms of proper English and math are acting “White” trying to pass off as “good”.

Authentic Black African American culture is “bad”, hip hop, revolutionary bad so the result is our cities have bad crime rates, bad neighborhoods, bad AIDS and other venerial disease rates.

So understand the Ebonics additions to Orwell’s 1984 Newspeak.

    War means peace
    Hate means Love
    Bad means good

    Any questions?

  • WR_the_realist

Dumbing down the vocabulary and math questions will no doubt help achieve the same goals as the Common Core Curriculum that Mr. Coleman helped create.

They don’t ask questions of sexual orientation on the SAT so gay White men do NOT get an advantage relative to straight White men. Also, the makers of the SAT hate Asian men just as much, if not moreso than White men. White women only get affirmative action when it comes to STEM schools and STEM jobs. The makers of the SAT are definitely trying to artificially boost the scores of Blacks and Hispanics, but don’t lump in White homosexuals, White women, and Asians in with them.

  • White and northeast Asian students also tend to have white and northeast Asian parents, who are a cut above the rest of the human herd IQ-wise.
