Australian-born Croatia defender Josip Simunic will miss the World Cup after being banned for 10 matches by FIFA for his pro-Nazi chants that marred his country’s play-off victory over Iceland last month.

Football’s world governing body confirmed on Tuesday (AEDT) that Simunic’s ban will start at the World Cup in Brazil, and that he will also be banned from entering the stadium for any of his country’s matches.

The incident came after Croatia’s World Cup qualifying play-off against Iceland in Zagreb on November 19, which Croatia won 2-0 to secure their place in Brazil.

The 35-year-old shouted “za dom”–Croatian for “for the homeland”–four times. In response, fans chanted “spremni”, meaning “ready”.

The chant was used by Croatia’s World War II Ustase regime, allied to Nazi Germany, which killed hundreds of thousands of Serbs, Jews, anti-fascist Croatians, Roma and others in concentration camps.

A FIFA statement said: “The committee took note that the player, together with the crowd, shouted a Croatian salute that was used during World War II by the fascist ‘Ustase’ movement.

“As a consequence, the committee agreed that this salute was discriminatory and offended the dignity of a group of persons concerning, inter alia, race, religion or origin, in a clear breach of article 58 par. 1a) of the FIFA disciplinary code.

“After taking into account all of the circumstances of the case, and particularly given the gravity of the incident, the committee decided to suspend the player for 10 official matches.”

The Dinamo Zagreb captain has also been fined $37,700 by FIFA.

Croatia’s Football Federation (HNS) said it was “shocked” over FIFA’s “draconian sanction,” warning the move could mean the end of Simunic’s career in the national squad for which he played 105 times.

Croatia coach Niko Kovac said he was “unpleasantly surprised, shocked and disappointed” by the FIFA sanction.

“I know him (Simunic) for a long time . . . and I am absolutely certain that he did not want to hurt anyone in any way,” Kovac said in a statement.

Croatian prosecutors have already fined Simunic $5,000 for inciting racial hatred, adding that the player was aware that the chant symbolised the official salute of Croatia’s totalitarian regime.

Simunic said at the time he was motivated solely by “love of my people (Croatian) and homeland”.

  • I fought for Croatia in the Vukovar encirclement battle in 1991. I don’t have any problem with Mr. Simunic.

    • Tarczan

If you are inclined we would appreciate a history lesson. This summer I talked to a very nice brother and sister who emigrated from Croatia. She surprised me by saying Clinton was right to bomb the Serbs. There is little information to be found on this war.

      • In late 1991 Jugoslavia broke up. The northern fragments: Slovenia and Croatia wished independence. Most Serbs would have been happy to let them go, but their government did not. A war that involved WW-2 weapons and medieval savagery was the result. Ethnic Serbs in southern Croatia formed militias and were aided by the Jugoslav National Army. They were afraid that ethnic Serbs would be dispossessed, but their own barbarous behavior merely ensured this.

Croatia lost the battle of Vukovar in late 1991, which we hoped to make into a Serbian “Stalingrad”. The Serbs took the city and shot all the wounded in the hospital there, along with the staff. We took 82mm mortars and 122mm rockets on our position until it wasn’t a position anymore, but they really had a tough time as well. We also had a difficulty getting out from behind their lines.

I was badly wounded, but from what I understand, the front did not move much farther north than Vukovar; we pretty-much trashed them. I don’t think they took Vinkovci, but I am not sure, as I had a snail’s-eye-view of things. I think the JNA plan was to take Zagreb and then go northwest to Slovenia, but their military doctrine was defensive in nature, and this put everything in slow-motion. The JNA was created to repel an invasion by the Warsaw Pact or a resurgent, aggressive Germany, rather than fight itself.

That was a fascinating read Mr. Scott.

What the hell is wrong with the Serbs? It seems like they are always causing problems.

          • I think most Serbs are just like anyone else. Most of their conscripts didn’t want that war. They’re ordinary people.

          • Zaporizhian Sich

I doubt the Croats wanted that war any more than the Serbs did. Muslims are another story, there are Muslims always itching for the chance to invade white nations, kill and rape their people and take over.

          • freddy_hills

Michael Scott gave you the version they told soldiers. Military always tell their soldiers what they want them to know. Read my reply to him.

          • Zaporizhian Sich

Fear not, the same thing will be said about US fifty years from now.

          • Jackryanvb

Serbs were right to fight swarthy, Albanian Mountain Muslims invading, breeding in Kosovo. All Whites must resist Turk, Arab, Chetnian, Paki Muslims in any White area. Central Europe should be White, not swarthy Muslim, same applies to all towns in Sweden, Michigan. What kind of White people want to enable NW Muslim invasions of our White countries, communities?
Answer: Idiot Leftists, Ron and Rand Paul Libertarian Loons, cultural marxists that hate all things White, support all things including Muslim immigration that hurts Whites.
Yeah, Serbs were mostly right in these wars, too bad Croatians and Serbs couldn’t see that they/we are basically the same White people. These petty church affiliation divisions have got to go.
            Serbs and Croatians shouls intermarry.

        • Allan477

Don’t forget, when the Croatians invaded Bosnia, they would go up to a child and ask him if he knew how to make the Sign of the Cross. If he made it in the Orthodox manner (from right to left), they would presume he was Serb and kill him. The Croats were anything but innocent victims in the Bosnian war.

  • Pro_Whitey

In other news, “Kill the Boer”, “Brown Pride”, and black power salutes are all still perfectly fine. And yeah, those Serbs, Jews, and Communists never hurt a fly.

    • David Ashton

The Clenched Fist salute of hatred and violence hardly ever seems to cause too much outcry, whether it was Mandela in front of the Soviet flag or a T-shirt symbol of killing helpless babies in the womb, despite the mass-murder, slavery, aggression and torture associated with communism in one country afer another.

By contrast the open-palm right-arm salute associated with “fascism” has a long history both Roman and Saxon of showing respect, friendship and loyalty. Will it ever make a comeback?

      • dukem1

An outcry?…Man, it puts lead in the multi-culti pencil!!!

    • IstvanIN

The Serbs may not have laways been angels but, in all fairness, they have been victims for much of their history.

      • They would be easier to forgive if not for the rape.

        • IstvanIN

Not to be disagreeable but I always have a hard time believing all the war crimes the Serbians have been accused of. I always get the feeling the accusations are exaggerated to make them seem worse than they were. They were defending their nation, something I have to give them credit for.

          • I saw it. One of the rape victims looked to be about 11 or 12. That poor little girl was naked and bleeding. They also blinded and castrated a British guy, so we never took any POWs after that. I shot all their officers we caught.

          • IstvanIN

That is pretty terrible. Don’t get me wrong, I am totally against rape and mutilation.

          • Zaporizhian Sich

Know this, the Serbs were treated far worse by the Muslims, the Croats and the West than anything you ever saw. That said, because of what Klinton did, they will kill any American that falls into their hands. Count your blessings you never were taken prisoner, Serbs have no reason to keep enemy POW’s alive.

          • Jackryanvb

I went to Montenegro, almost married a Serbian girl. This was 5 years after the war ended. Locals asked med how America could go to war against the Serbs, bomb them.
I was honest and told them:
“Because Americans are idiots, always get manipulated in to fighting, killing good White European people.”
I also explained that US Secretary of State Madeline Albright and the American Jewish community oppose any White European people who try to establish nationalist states, so Serbs get called “nazis” even though the Serbs fought against Germany in World War I and World War II. Most Serbs in Montenegro were very fair and nice to me once I let them know I liked them and hated US government policy.
In these cases, it isn’t really so bad to place a lot of the blame on the American Jewish commumity, the alternative is we must admit that White Americans are mostly complete idiots in issues of war, race relations.

          • Zaporizhian Sich

The sooner the Serbs understand that our government is the problem, not white Americans, the better. You are right that many white Americans are led by the nose to kill other whites, and that they are idiots when it come to racial and ethnic relations.

          • Strike_Team

We’ll need to employ the same rule when the grand collapse hits. After all, they will do the same to us.

        • Freedoooom

          Rape accusation is horseshit.

Muslims attacked Serbians. Serbians aren’t a third a world country, they kicked their asses. They don’t have nuclear weapons, therefore Wesley Clark jumped for joy at the chance to bomb white Christians.

          • I saw what I saw, and I wish I had not. They really did it.

Croats are Catholic Christians and not Muzzies at all.

          • Extropico

I have read reports of atrocities on all sides, and have viewed quite a number of photos of war crimes. There were mercenaries and volunteers from foreign nations who committed war crimes too… some of these crimes weren’t even perpetrated by the people who live in the former Yugoslavia. The Muzzies were primarily across the border in Bosnia.

          • David Ashton

Atrocities and rapes are not unknown in wars both civil and international, and practised by “whites” as well as other races, as also are exaggerations and even inventions in war propaganda, by all or almost all sides. Oddly Hitler and Mao both issued firm instructions to their troops on good behaviour. But let us all now concentrate on peaceful collaboration among white people, and territorial co-existence – not frictional mixture with or invasion from – other peoples.

          • From what I understand, some really foul stuff happened in B-H as well.

          • The Verdict of History

There were volunteers from foreign nations who committed war crimes too…

            Osama’s crew.

          • Strike_Team

Well, we do know Wesley Clark’s background.

  • So CAL Snowman

Even after their total and complete destruction, the ghost of the Nazi’s still somehow haunts all of liberaldom.

    • tlk244182

      Useful for propaganda…..

    • The Verdict of History

Yea. Even though National Socialism and Modern American liberalism both venerate the welfare state (“social safety net”) and extensive regulation of private industry… hmmm…

  • Hunter Morrow

This is why soccer is a joke. Half the teams aren’t even White, much less representative of the European ancestry. Seen Germany or France’s teams lately? They look like arabs or like they’re from the heart of blackest Africa.

    • dukem1

    • Larry Klein

      Yep it’s an embarrassment.

    • So CAL Snowman

Even the US squad has more Whites than France.

However, the BEST team in the world is still 100% lily White (Spain).

    • M.

The “French” national team for the Euro 2012. Seven out of the eleven players are non-white (6 Negroes, and 1 Semite)

      • Mr. Zidane is a Mediterranean white.

        • M.

Yes, many Berbers (from his native region) are of that type.

  • The Final Solution

But shouting “Allah Ackbah” is encouraged. Especially when Qatar hosts the cup in 2022.

  • Lord_Steven_Regal

Of course, “For The Homeland” is offensive to multiculturalists — they want to do away with the thought of any ethnic homelands. To them, the Bantu has as much right to England as an Englishman.

    • Strike_Team

But a Bantu wouldn’t be banned from a tournament for nationalistic chants, or even for shouting something along the lines of “death to all whites” or worse. He might be given a chance by the media, along with great help from the media, to justify the joyous expression of his beliefs. And if things even got that far, the incident would quickly be buried under piles of remarks and stories designed to make whites feel guilty, just before the incident is tossed down the memory hole.

  • MBlanc46

Just play football, for criminey sake.

    • That was my point to judenjaeger and SoCal Snowman.

It’s counterproductive to attempt to turn every news story into a political bedtime story. It’s counterproductive to try to turn every gathering of people into a political rally.

We have a common enemy, multiculturalism. On that we can all agree. The questions are how best to wake people up and how best to arrive at a successful separation of the races. Appeals at soccer games to the glory days of the Ubermenschen are, in my eyes, not helpful. They distract from the real message.

Taylor is a strong advocate of free speech. Anyone who reads this site can see the broad range of opinion and expression he permits. But I see the context of this incident differently than he does, apparently.

  • I’m awfully sorry but how is what this man did any different from shouting “Heil Hitler”? I don’t mind being called a racist but I would mind being called a neo-Nazi. I had convinced myself that this site was beyond that issue. Am I wrong?

    • So CAL Snowman

The National Socialists are the ONLY people that have attempted to fight the scourge of Global Communism and what we term the New World Order. I consider the term “Nazi” one of simultaneous respect and fear. The left fears the “Nazis” because it met the one entity that was capable of defeating it.

      • “… the ONLY people that have attempted to fight the scourge of Global Communism …”

Ah yes. The ends justify the means. I’ve heard that before.

My question is not really directed at those neo-Nazis who post at this site. I know where you folks stand and what you stand for. My question was really directed at site owner Jared Taylor, who has just surprised me.

        • judenjager

You sound like a squid. Will you make Jared apologize for thought crimes?

          • “You sound like a squid.”

What sound does a squid make, jewhunter?

“Will you make Jared apologize …”

No, I simply would like to know where he stands. I don’t care what you people post, or what you say about me. What I’m trying to decide is whether I should refer other people to this site on the grounds that the site owner is not himself one of you.

            “… for thought crimes?”

            Here’s a better analogy …

You, a native of South Carolina, walk into a bar with a lot of black people in it. You wave a Confederate Battle Flag and then invite the white patrons to join you in singing “Dixie”, which they do.

The bouncer then invites you to leave and tells you you may not return for a month. You say “Gee whiz, Bounce, I was only exercising my right of free speech. Why are these ni66ers getting so upset?”

Bounce answers, “We don’t want you disturbing the peace in here. Take your ‘South Will Rise Again’ message to a political rally, not to a bar where people are simply trying to have a party.”

    • tlk244182

‘For the homeland’=’Deutschland, Deutschland uber alles,’ not ‘Heil Hitler.’ That is what the left does: propose a false equivalency. Patriotism is not equivalent to National Socialism.

  • Alexandra1973

I read even the Nazis were sickened by the stuff the Ustashi did.

Still, I don’t believe all Croatians are Ustashi any more than I believe all Germans are Nazis. After all Hitler was Austrian. I might add that I have German ancestry.

    • The U probably did it. On the other hand, I thought it was a complete disgrace that otherwise decent people would so cruelly mistreat each other, so I was drunk most of the time.

  • IstvanIN

They were trying to prevent the break up of their country, something they had a right to oppose and even fear (look at what happened, they even lost Kosovo). We had no business bombing and attacking them. Why don’t we bomb China so Tibet can be free? Oh wait, China is one of the big guys, we only pick on the little guys.

    • Arnold Schwartz

Yugoslavia was a fake country, just like the Soviet Union. The way you talk about ‘their country’ shows you are unaware of the Serb-domination of Yugoslavia over the other republics. The Serbs easily let Slovenia go because it was small and homogenous, but they were prepared to go to war for something they ultimately failed in- trying to steal territory from other republics.
Yes America had no right bombing Kosovo, but the province was demographically lost to Albanians and the rest is just a matter of time.

      • So CAL Snowman

Looking forward to watching the Slovenian national hockey team play in Sochi 2014- Anze Kopitar baby!

      • Zaporizhian Sich

You could make a good argument for the U.S. being a “fake country” these days too.

  • Spartacus

“Simunic said at the time he was motivated solely by “love of my people (Croatian) and homeland”.”

But that’s a nazi thing, isn’t it ? You’re suppose to embrace the multicult, or else…

    • Alexandra1973

Wow, thanks, Adolf, for making nationalism look bad! Way to go!

One more reason to despise Hitler….

      • Spartacus

No, my dear. I can think of a few reasons to despise Hitler, but making nationalism “look bad” is not one of them.

Remember, when you read about Hitler&co, that you’re almost always reading the words of our enemies, and you’ll rarely find an objective source. In truth, he wasn’t really all that bad.

        • He probably got that little girl’s father killed somewhere in Russia, along with her older brother.

          • Lagerstrom

I really hate to think of what probably happened to that little in the not-too-soon future.

  • “Get used to being called every filthy name in the book.”

You mean like being called “squid” by judenjaeger? (I don’t know what it means but I suspect it isn’t complimentary.)

  • That was 60 years ago. I was there in 1991, 22 years ago.

    • Zaporizhian Sich

Doesn’t matter, you wouldn’t feel that way if you were a Serb, or a Ukrainian. Mark my words, Ukrainians are just one of any number of peoples who harbor a grudge stemming from atrocities against THEM.

      • Like Scots, Welsh and Irish?

        • Zaporizhian Sich

          Try Greeks and Russians.

          • Everybody has hangups about their neighbors. That’s just normal.

          • Zaporizhian Sich

Lock a Greek and a Turk in a cell, and there will be blood. There is also a lot of hatred between Ukrainians and Russians, and you just saw a glimpse of the hatred between Serbs, Croats and Muslims. What America did there only fanned the flames.

  • M.

And “For the homeland” only means “for the homeland”. It’s all about the context. “Allahu akbar” is mostly shouted in the context of jihad, or in some sort of confrontation with non-Muslims.

  • If there is an all-powerful Supreme Being that created the universe and everything in it, then that Being is by definition “great”, but is also great enough to not need our saccharine adoration. We thus do not need to hear how “great” God is from people who stone women to death for having been raped.

  • The Verdict of History

They have been for the benefit of the globalists. Nuff said!

  • The Verdict of History

One thing is for sure. The Muslim God is certainly not Great.
