Video Shows Monticello Mayor Cursing, Breaking Clock After DWI Arrest

CBS New York, November 24, 2013

A video recording shows the mayor of the Sullivan County municipality of Monticello in a heated confrontation after being arrested by his own police officers.

As CBS 2’s Steve Langford reported Sunday, Monticello Mayor Gordon Jenkins was arrested on Nov. 16, on suspicion of drunken driving.

He was taken into custody after showing up to take a look at a serious car accident on Main Street. A volunteer firefighter noticed the mayor looked drunk, according to police, and notified law enforcement. Jenkins was arrested on the spot.

In a video recorded at his own police headquarters, a man identified as Jenkins was shown seated in a chair with one hand handcuffed to a wall. During the first minute of the video, he is heard apparently talking to himself, using a variety of obscene insults to describe the officers.

Soon afterward, an officer comes in to interview him.

“You know something, Davis?” he says to the officer in the video. “I’m the one that hired you in this job, man. I mean, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter about that. But you know something? How the f**k you guys going to play the game?”

When the officer later addresses him as “sir,” Jenkins replies: “Don’t call me sir.”

“Mayor? Is that better?” the officer says.

“Don’t call me mayor,” Jenkins replies. “Call me n****r, because that’s what I am when I’m right here in handcuffs. But you know something? I don’t give a f**k.”

Altogether, hours of video were released, showing Jenkins not happy about his arrest.

“What are you going to do? Put me in jail five years? I’ll get out in five years, and I going to f***ing tell you what the f**k you did to me, and I’m going to come back to you,” he tells an officer later.

The mayor was charged with DWI, refusing a Breathalyzer, obstruction of justice and criminal mischief.

The final charge came following an incident seen about an hour and 22 minutes into the first of two video clips. Jenkins stands up, pulls a clock off the wall, and hurls it out the door of the interrogation room while demanding to know who is at the police station desk.

{snip}

Monticello Village Trustee Carmen Rue filed the request to release the videos of the mayor in custody. She has called on him to leave his post.

“He needs help. He really needs help,” Rue said. “He needs to step down for the good of the community.”

{snip}

Jenkins pleaded guilty three years ago for selling knock-off sneakers at his local store. He was arrested again last year for allegedly hitting a police officer.

Jenkins also raised eyebrows earlier this year when he appointed his longtime girlfriend to the village Board of Trustees.

[Editor’s Note: Early in this fifteen-minute clip, Mr. Jenkins complains of “fucking cracker mother fuckers,” and appears to blame whites for his arrest.]

A true Civil Rights Icon in the making…

    • John Smith

…and another candidate for the “what if” test?

“What if” a white mayor was arrested for drunk driving, acted like a fool, and for good measure made racial slurs against blacks?

Do you think the national media creatures, across the board, would have something to say?

What about the level of controversy?

    • Whitetrashgang

I hate to think what he is going to do to his white hookers this evening.

  • D.B. Cooper

I saw this on Drudge earlier. He should hang out with that other mayor who’s in deep solid waste. Blacks have a drunk driving mayor, and Canadians have a fat boy crack smoker.

I’d roll with the White fatso before I’d be steppin’ wit Mituh Mayor.

I posted the following comment Sunday afteroon on another blog concerning this story:

The ‘progressive’ liberal MSM apologists will flip the story from one of a hateful racist diatribe to that of a ‘Black Everyman’ who is incessantly victimized by the racist white man and a racist white supremacist society. After all, he was only ‘speaking truth to power’. We’ll be told we need ‘an honest dialogue on race’ which really means, ‘shut up, racist white man!’

Here is a comment from his lawyer:

“People in Monticello who form his base have suffered indignities at the hands of the same police officers, and they understand what he was saying,” said attorney Michael Sussman.

    • Jack Burton

“People in Monticello who form his base have suffered indignities at the hands of the same police officers, and they understand what he was saying,” said attorney Michael Sussman.

Sociopath #2 is covering for sociopath #1.

Watch the video for yourself, nothing the man said made any sense at all.

      • Brian

Would have been quicker if he’d just yelled ‘DIN DO NUFFINS, MUHFUGGA’ and left it at that.

  • Garrett Brown

He will be a legend for his actions in about 20 years.

  • Puggg

You can dress them up and elect them mayor, but you can never take them to town.

These cops on this department can’t be too happy knowing what they have for a boss and what little respect he has for the officers of the department he helps supervise.

Monticello, NY and Sullivan County seem pretty rural and distant from New York. How did it elect a black mayor?

    • sbuffalonative

Blacks and Hispanics try to escape their own. After they do, they tell all their friends and family how much better it is. The friends and family flood in recreating the old neighborhood.

      • ThatguyinTN

White flight eventually leads to black chase. Eventually we will either come full circle and get our cities back because blacks have left while chasing blacks or we will be backed into a corner and have no choice but fight.

        • Brian

Or start over on Mars, and instill ‘Fear of a Red Planet’.

      • Puggg

My thought is that maybe the reason this town in the middle of nowhere has so many Bs, Hs, is the reason why some towns in rural Missouri have so many blacks in them for some weird reason. The proximity of a state prison, some black from the city gets shipped there for a bit and his “fambly” or some of them move there to be close to Uncle Rufus while he’s doing his bit. NYS DOC lists a medium security joint in Sullivan County, namely the town of Woodbourne, but that’s really one horse, Monticello is the closest really big town close to that prison.

So that’s what I think it is.

        • bilderbuster

You could be right & the guards live there too.

          • Puggg

The guards, though, would almost always be from or close to the area where the prison is. Now the catch with this prison is that since the area is diversifying, so are the COs at this prison.

          • bilderbuster

Except for the uniforms I would expect the guards would be indistinguishable from the inmates & their families.

        • Brian

If it were a small town in New England or Minnesota, not too far from a big city, I’d think the city was dumping its welfare cases onto a liberal place with generous benefits, and then word gets around and they’re swarmed. But in this case, it sounds like you have it right.

  • bigone4u

The Drudge link to this story did include “cracka.” Good for Drudge. But the race card won’t work for this clown because NOBODY likes a slobbering drunk.

  • dubyasee

“People in Monticello who form his base have suffered indignities at
the hands of the same police officers, and they understand what he was
    saying,” said attorney Michael Sussman.

What Mr Sussman fails to note is that Mr. Jenkins’ “base” is probably well deserving of the treatment they have received that the hands of the Monticello Police Department. I suspect that Mr. Sussman’s “base” doesn’t want Mr. Jenkins’ “base” coming anywhere near their neighborhoods, but that glaring hypocrisy gets glossed over when your “base” controls the message.

  • Luca

What is worse than his behavior, is to think who would vote him into office in the first place.

  • Daniel Schmuhl

Blacks often vote for incompetent hip-hop mayors so this is no surprise.

    • sbuffalonative

A couple years ago, PBS did a documentary about a mayors race in New Jersey, I believe.
The incumbent was ghetto trash and had been in office for years and the city suffered for it.
His challenger was a well-spoken, college educated black man who likely could have turned things around.
But the ghetto blacks voted for the ghetto mayor who openly bribed them with bar parties.

In the presidential election, if blacks had a choice between Obama and Sharpton, Sharpton would have won. More blacks identify with Sharpton. Obama would have been seen as being too white.

    • Jack Burton

Yeah, but what about Whites? Monticello is majority White.

  • Whitetrashgang

You know from now on you could just blame black people if you get arrested. You wouldn’t have been drinking and driving but black people are so violent you needed a couple drinks to calm you down after you see one.

  • Lord_Steven_Regal

“appears to blame whites for his arrest.”

Of course. It’s always whites’ fault. No black person has ever done anything wrong — they were just framed by whites. No black person has ever failed — they were just kept down by “Da Man”.

Hundreds of years now the sorry script will remain the same.

    • Jack Burton

Whites voted him into office. Yet another ungrateful, spiteful Negro.

    • bilderbuster

Hundreds of years from now if all the Whites are gone the Black man will tell his children the reason they live like animals is because the White man stole all the Black mans technology & escaped to the stars.

      • Brian

If that’s the case, I would expect them to dig out those Gypshun spacecraft, and chase us, eh?

        • bilderbuster

They can’t because the White man took the jumper cables.

  • Katherine McChesney

This Mayor should be kicked out of office and jailed for his behavior. Just another HNIC who things he’s more important than he really is.

  • Spartacus

This happens a lot here in Romania, where drunk driving is something of a national sport. Haven’t seen anyone break any clocks yet, but I’ll keep an eye out…

  • libertarian1234

The original videos reveal a hate-whitey tirade that’s full of anti-white hate and slurs. There are two of them.

These videos of this character’s attitude and words should be used to instruct people on what the typical black attitude and opinions of whites amount to, because he’s typical of the vast majority of them.

    • Jack Burton

I watched the whole video of him going on and on about crackers, etc, and not one thing the man said made any sense at all. You would never know this guy is mayor, he sounds like some insane bum off the streets, the kind you see talking to themselves and cursing.

This is just another glaring example of how corrupt our country now is. Imagine what Obama says when he’s in private with his black militant friends.

What’s more amazing is that this lowlife was voted mayor in majority White Monticello.

      • KittyAmerica

Ha! He sold knock- off sneakers. Typical third world behavior; don’t know if that was before he was elected mayor, either way our people are definitely suicidal. Instead of what they call suicide by cop what we have now is suicide by diversity and it is self- willed.

        • bilderbuster

Befo him be Mayor he wuz a Bidnisman

  • MBlanc46

We’ve got dozens of black public officials in the Chicago area, and criminal behavior is common among them. This guy got recorded while chimping out, but otherwise he’s not all that different to black mayors, and police chiefs, and state legislators all across the country.

  • Pelagian

    1) Michael Sussman … smh. 2) The Hispanic woman’s speech is being sanitized. She is saying “He need help, he need help” (sic). 3) Mayor McCheese of McDonaldland … at best.

  • Puggg

You’ll never guess to which group this mayor belongs.

    Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

    • bilderbuster

Bloomberg had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find his mayors.

  • Jack Burton

The “mayor” talks like he’s some disgruntled insane person about to commit mass murder. Going on and on about conspiracy theories with his visceral hatred for Whites, and then says “I don’t care if I die tomorrow.”

Keep in mind Monticello is majority White, so Whites voted him into office. That’s how corrupt our country is now.

  • I did not hear him say anything about ‘cracker.’ But it would not surprise me if he did.

And it certainly would not surprise me if the media did not mention it.

and of course all this is standard procedure for the media….because we all know here that the media is hypocritical and has a double standard when it comes to race and racism concerning blacks vs whites.

    We all know that here.

And if the media were to be held to account for that hypocrisy, the media would say something like this: we are just making up for decades and centuries of racism toward blacks from whites and slavery and etc.

    Right?

Well, what is your answer to that?

I have an answer for that. But what gets me about the discussion here is that the people here do not delve into these issues that deeply.

    Why not?

I do not feel that I should have to account for the crimes of the past.

First of all, it was not the common white man who enslaved blacks. It was the rich.
And that answer is something that you people here avoid. Why is that?

Why do you avoid this answer? It is the truth. It was the rich at the top of society who owned slaves. Not whites, the rich. That is the answer to the media’s excuses and hypocrisy.

Maybe your side is programmed, too, just like the other side.

Here is what I have to say–the other side, the liberal side, has a set of programmed, canned answers that are superficial and lacking in logic.

And ya know what? Your side has another set of programmed, canned answers that are superficial and lacking in logic.

And neither side will tolerate me telling them that.

And neither side seems capable of true discussion at a deep level.

    • M.

“Your side has another set of programmed, canned answers that are superficial and lacking in logic.”

Could you give us an example?

    • KittyAmerica

Maybe more of the wealthy had slaves, but I have slave owners in almost every branch of my family tree and these men weren’t wealthy. They were land owners and farmers but not wealthy. I don’t know if that was common but it seems that if my ancestors could have slaves then it couldn’t have been exclusively for the wealthy.

      • the 1860 census showed that 1.5 percent of all white americans owned slaves. Period.

The average slave cost over 400 dollars–cash, unless you had good collateral.

The average white man earned maybe 300 dollars a year at that time.

So who has over 50K in cash today to spend for a business expense? The rich.

        Same back then.

        So the rich had slaves.

        Period.

        • Brian

That 1.5% would have all been in the South of course, and in parts that are conducive to plantation agriculture (not in the north GA mountains for example). Also, if a white man owns slaves, his wife and children would be counted as not owning any. Tabulating for white _households in the deep south_, the percentage would have been markedly higher…though still a minority.

    • Luca

Without going into deep statistical verification let me educate you on this subject. You have twisted a minor fact to fit your narrative.

      1. Fact: Not all the rich were slave owners and not all slave owners were rich. Perhaps less than 6% of of Southern Whites owned slaves.

      2. Fact. Freed Blacks, Native Americans, Mulattoes and a few middle class Whites owned slaves. Some poor/middle-class Whites had inherited one or two slaves from a rich relative. Some small Southern businesses like a carpenter shop or blacksmith may have owned one or two slaves and they were by no means rich.

      3. Fact. The rich who were slave owners were capable of owning many slaves and therefore had a higher profile as slave owners.

      4. Fact: It was African and Arabs who captured and enslaved the blacks and sold them to traders. Only in very few cases did Whites actually go into the bush and enslave blacks.

      5. Fact: Many rich white slave owners treated their slaves like family and many freed them after many years of service or upon the death of the father figure in the family.

      6. Fact: Rich, White Abolitionists, were very much responsible for ending slavery in the US, either as individuals or in organized groups. Many would attend slave auctions, buy slaves, gain legal title, take them north and set them free. They also pushed and financed political agendas and candidates that would help the cause.

I could go on and on but I suspect facts, logic and common sense may be wasted on you.

If you really do have a doctorate as you have claimed, it doesn’t come across in your writing. It appears you have an anger issue, an agenda issue and you attended a lot of liberal schooling (indoctrination). Try reading something on your own like “Bullwhip Days” an oral history, recorded in the 1930’s and straight from the mouths of former slaves. Good luck.

    • Jack Burton

Watch the full video, he says it many times.

  • Massif1

Don’t you know you can’t make fun, embarrass, or put a light on the illegal activities of black people in America? You are a rayyyyyyycism for doing so.

Blacks in America need a one way ticket to paradise, also known as the continent of Africa. Africa offers variety of different government systems that are just as corrupt as 99.5% of blacks in America. They will feel like being home, surrounded by their fellow brothers and sisters, and maybe they’ll enslave them just like they did with the natives in Liberia. Because we all know American blacks are allergic to work.

  • Brian

Strangely passive-aggressive toward the cop; for the life of me, I can’t tell what his dang point is, other than him being angry and entitled.

  • OhWow

The only way I heard of this before AmRen was on Hot97 (a NYC area hip hop radio station). They played the cracker part and the black people on the show were saying how awesome it was. Imagine a white DJ saying “Oh man, they called him the n word! That’s awesome!!”? He’d lose his job within 30 seconds following that.

    • Reverend Bacon

I guess even the mainstream blacks didn’t want to hear the “peckerwoods” remark that he also made on the full video.

  • so if I say that the civil rights movement was a coup by Capital against Labor, that makes me a dirty pinko commie, huh?

    LOL….

  • my agenda is the truth….I am an old man, highly educated and experienced. Tell me about yourself.

  • Paleoconn

He also says ‘peckerwood’ in the first 3 seconds.
