What Could Happen If Border Asylum Claims Keep Rising

Ted Hesson, ABC News, August 19, 2013

The number of people seeking asylum at the Southwest border has doubled since 2011, according to statistics released by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

There have been 14,610 asylum claims along the border with Mexico during the first three-quarters of the 2013 fiscal year. In 2011, there were 6,824.

These numbers represent only “defensive” asylum claims–those that are made at the ports of entry into the U.S. They don’t include asylum claims made by people who are already living in the country without authorization.

While asylum requests have certainly increased, it’s important to keep these figures in perspective.

A Fox news station reported just over a week ago that hundreds of migrants were using asylum claims as a “loophole” to cross the U.S. border and remain in the country.

In the report, an anonymous source said that a border crossing near San Diego was being “overwhelmed” by asylum seekers, and that nearly 200 people entered asylum claims on a single day several weeks ago.

Part of the reason DHS released the data on border asylum requests was to counter the Fox report, according to the AP.

First of all, few people are granted asylum, as we wrote last week. Asylees made up just five percent of the total number of people receiving green cards in 2011.

Mexicans in particular are rarely granted asylum.

The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) has broken out some telling stats:

“From 2002 through 2011, Mexican nationals accounted for 1 percent (1,685) of the 260,951 individuals granted asylum,” according to MPI. “No Mexican nationals were reported as refugee arrivals in 2011 data.”

Federal officials told the AP that there has been an increase in asylum requests, but that it’s been “modest.”

Even if the numbers are small relative to the larger immigration system, there appear to be more Mexicans and Central Americans hoping to get legal status in the U.S. based on the threat of cartel-induced violence in their hometowns.

If the numbers keep increasing, there could be more pressure on federal immigration officials to grant asylum to those migrants. Right now, about half of all asylum approvals go to people from China, Egypt, Ethiopia and Venezuela.

We’ve been faced with this sort of immigration dilemma in the past. Just look at El Salvador in the 1980s.

Hundreds of thousands of people were trying to leave that country in the wake of a violent civil war. But few people were being accepted for asylum or refugee status in the U.S., despite America’s role in the Salvadoran conflict.

That led Congress to create something called Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which allows the federal government to offer special temporary visas to people who are fleeing imminent dangers in their home countries, like internecine warfare or natural disasters.

The program hasn’t been perfect. Roughly 208,000 Salvadorans are living in the U.S. under this status, with no clear path to permanent legal status. Many of them have been here for decades, living, working and paying taxes.

It’s hard to imagine Congress extending a program like this to Mexicans. Because the country is so much larger, and closer to the U.S., the number of applicants would likely be much higher.

Spare us the heart rending and fallacious claims that the refugees have been living, working and paying taxes just like us. And the asylum program has also given us MS-13 which is comprised of Salvadorean savages and cutthroats.

There is only three criteria for gaining entry into this country:

    1) Are you non-white?
    2) Do you loathe and/or hate white people?
    3) Will you vote Democrat?

If you answer yes to those three questions, then welcome to America.

    • John Smith

CIS studies show the immigrant population uses far more in social services than they pay in taxes. And the news omits the worldview of these immigrants as well. There was a time when immigrants to the U.S. shared our ideals. Today; however, they are increasingly Marxists, Muslims, and Chinese spies.

  • mobilebay

If you keep hitting yourself in the head with a baseball bat, it hurts. Stop hitting and you’ll feel much better. Stop letting anyone across our borders with phony claims. Our country will be much better off. Then start getting rid of those here without permission. And, if our country will ever stop thinking we have to support the world and take in their people too, we just might make it as a nation again.

  • Spartacus

Can I make a suggestion ? Don’t let any of them in.

    • NeanderthalDNA

That is a beautiful ideal. I concur. Won’t happen any time soon, but we could approach the ideal, I believe.

  • borogirl54

This is a version of DACA. They get a work permit that is good for 18 months as well as a SSN and depending on the state, a drivers license. This can be renewed every 18 months as long as ICE has determined that certain countries are still unstable. The purpose for TPS was to prevent further illegal immigration by allowing receipients to work legally and send money home to family.

    • Greg Thomas

The third world is always “unstable” because third world diversity lives there. They do not become any more stable when they come here.

    • NordicHeritage

It’s insanity considering the unemployment numbers in this country. We don’t even have enough jobs for American citizens much less for the dredges that come here from the third world.

  • Romulus

Any and all efforts to increase the democratic voting base and accelerate our dispossession. Global population is edging ever higher. North America is not a melting pot, it is a dumping ground!!

    • White Mom in WDC

So true. It is not my role in life to help people out that won’t help themselves by trying to solve the problems in their country. These people are third world because they want to be third world. They make the counties in which they existed prior coming to the FUSA. The elite here WANT this because they can live like kings on turd mountain. These people will accept any and all crumbs given to them by the elite who will then wave these ‘guest workers’ or ‘the help’ away from their banquet tables. These people will be used as tools to displace the already faltering white middle class.

      • Romulus

Im feeling a little fried from covering alot of the same narratives. The first two articles in todays news go hand in hand with each other. The pro Bill of rights group that im a member of will be meeting again soon to discuss the NDAA (national defense authorization act). All patriots would be wise to familiarize yourselves with this little tidbit from the revised patriot act. Be ever vigilant and join a pro arms group or we may very well lose the 2 amendment. The powers that be will do whatever they feel necessary to control this nation. Governor Christie just cowtowed to the gaysexuals saying that conversion therapy is now illegal in NJ. This just affirms the amount of FG’s that are now serving in that states legislature. An obvious takeover by the rainbow of the positions of power. Same goes for all the states that have been legalizing the garbage. Think in a larger context of the news and features from the variety of blogs on disqus. All of the features and news are coalescing into meta problems for America, where they will reach a tipping point. Ideas for plans of actions and solutions should be a common theme of discussion on a favorable board.

        • Ella

But some gays want and ask for “conversion therapy” as legitimate treatment. So mental health counsellors deny them treatment if they request to have conversion therapy but this supposed to be now “humane” for whom? A few gays don’t want to be gay so they want therapy.

          • Romulus

Coupling the gay conquest of govt and the courts along with Americas other macro problems contributed to it’s overall decline.
White mom from DC, inferred correctly. America is now a massive entropic machine of corruption, filth, decay, cultural decline.

          • IstvanIN

In my humble opinion trying to convert a homosexual into a heterosexual is about as likely to be successful as it would be turning Le’Genius into a Civil Engineer.

          • ShermanTMcCoy

So I also thought, but before the APA knuckled under to homosexual groups and declared homosexuality not to be an illness, conversion therapy was often successful. Of course, I have no real data on this.

This looks like another subject worthy of research.

        • IstvanIN

Christie doesn’t want homosexual teens tortured with useless conversion therapy, so that means NJ’s legislature is dominated by “FG”s? What has this to do with asylum seekers?

          • White Mom in WDC

Think Rome. America is Rome. When the gays become prominent in power positions and when a civilization becomes overrun with out insiders ( when in Rome do as the Romans do ring a bell?), it is bound for failure

          • NeanderthalDNA

I dunno. If some gay White wants to stand next to me in the phalanx when the darkies come charging…

As long as he or she knows how to use that spear and shield and doesn’t grab my a$$, I’m OK with it.

Actually personally know/have known several like that in my time. Gay being the only “liberal” thing about them…

            You know…the Spartans had some…peculiarities…

          • ShermanTMcCoy

Sorry, Neanderthal. If what you are saying were ture, I would agree with it. But I have some close gay friends, and they are liberal on every single issue.

          • NeanderthalDNA

Actually I’ve found lesbians to be more amenable.

Had a friend who’s married to another lesbian with two precious little White girls being “blackenated” by our evil education system. We worked with a shiftless coalburner possessed of two mulatto bastards who busted out a third while we worked together. We were lunch and break buddies and over time I helped to racially awaken her.

For her and her partner, in the big pic, the grand liblefty vision was not their cup of tea. They just wanted to be married, take care of their kids, mind their own business and live their lives.

And they were some tough broads, lol. Hope they are well.

          • IstvanIN

Right, and George Bush, Bill Clinton, Juan McCain, Nancy Pelosi, Upchuck Shumer, etc. are all gay and that is why they have sold us down the river. Sometimes the blame has to be placed at our own feet.

          • Romulus

I went off on a tangent.

          • Rhialto

I agree. This entire “gay rights” business just serves to divert White men from issues that involve their survival. I admit that it’s an example of American foolishness, but otherwise irrelevant.

By the way, homosexual White men are the largest group of White men that have any solidarity as well as political clout.

          • Bossman

Homosexuality maybe the “Achilles’ heel” of the white man. The thing that is most likely to destroy Western man.

        • White Mom in WDC

          We are Rome.

The asylum laws are a racket designed to slowly allow millions of blacks and browns into the USA while violins play in the background and libtards gather around the campfire singing Kumbaya. And that is the truth.

  • Greg Thomas

The civil war in El Salvador has been over for 25 years, yet we still have them living in this country under “temporary” protected status. Let this be a lesson to all. Once third
world diversity gets here, this government will never make them leave. When it
comes to brown diversity, temporary means in perpetuity.

    • Sick of it

We still have Iranians who came here after the Shah was deposed, rofl.

  • din_do_nuffins

All that matters right now is how you are preparing for the “change” that we can’t stop.

GOP says you are supposed to accept it and be a part of it.

You White privilege tells you that it will make everything hideous.

“Being a part of it” means embracing the total dissolution of Whiteness.

We’re past the tipping point (MSM makes you think there is a chance to stop it, but that’s a trick), so from now on, it’s a matter of whether or not you are ready for the flash point.

  • dd121

It’s just a little loophole so Democrats can bring in more of their undocumented voters.

  • kjh64

There is no such thing as “temporary status” for non-Whites. Once they’re here, they’ll stay and the government won’t do anything about it. Only Whites, like the family from Germany, will be deported or not allowed in in the first place.

  • IstvanIN

End all asylum. Period. It is a scam. The reasons that third-worlders can use to get to stay here is both astounding and ridiculous. Additionally, it seems whites are rarely grantsed asylum. Not just the German home school family but any whites. What are the chances My People Holders would give asylum status to a White SA family or person? Zip, I bet, and they are being exterminated. It is time the third-world cleaned up their own messes and stop using us as the toilet of the world.

  • Ella

Certain religious groups want to keep the border porous so they can apply under the refugee status to get funding for their religious organizations and also, have unlimited access for quick escapes. It doesn’t work since 1/3 of the world has tyrants/dictators and disasters so we can’t take in everyone at 320 million. The powers-to-be and UN know that this will destroy USA and other Western nations as you bring unknown radicals and even, mentally disturbed. They are aware of their destruction of our culture.

  • shmo123

Whether they’re granted asylum or not, it’s just another way to get their foot in the door and gain de facto admission. They’ll be granted permission to stay until their “hearing”, which means most won’t show up at all. Then it’s just a waiting game until the next amnesty. This should be titled, “How to make an awful system even worse.”

  • IKantunderstand

It is not the fault of White people that coloreds can’t figure out a way to get along. It is not the fault of White people that coloreds can’t sustain an economy. The only way to cure the world’s ills, is if all the colored failed races were to say to White people: Please come and help us, we are too inept to do it on our own. Please keep us in order, please help our failing economies, please help our agricultural systems, please help our schools, our roads, our infrastructures(all of which you White people built to begin with), we promise not to act like brats, and KILL YOU. Fellow Whites! All the other races are failures, but it has become fashionable to blame their innate stupidity, and thus their failures, on White blah, blah, blah. It is a lie, it is a hoax. White people are not responsible for the lack of development of the colored races. We have gone sooo past “White Man’s Burden”, we are now into: “The Biggest Millstone Ever Around the Neck of White People Threatening the Most Accomplished Race on the Face of the Earth with Complete Destruction Burden”. We need off this piece of crap, not so “Merry-Go-Round”.

  • RHG

Of course “temporary” to the US government means “forever” as in these people are never going home and are here forever. Last time I heard there were no more issues in El Salvador and yet years later their citizens are still here. Plus, I believe these Mexicans claiming “asylum” are allowed into the country and given a court date and then of course never show up. Asylum has just become another scam and that was proven with the Boston Bombers who freely traveled back to a country they were supposedly afraid to live in.

  • willbest

They can get in line behind the Russian homosexuals which are now seeking asylum.

    • ShermanTMcCoy

Russia keeps looking better and better . . .

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

More Cloward-Piven to collapse the system.

I’m surprised obama isn’t sending moving vans down to the border to help illegals colonize and bankrupt the U.S.

Look for the upcoming August 28th march to commemorate the 50th anniversary of MLK’s march on Washington to be turned into an immigration rally with obama himself declaring amnesty as a civil right. This is the “civil rights” march Schmuck Schumer threatened Republicans with if they didn’t shapeup.

Don’t be surprised to see Ryan, Cantor and Goodlatte at the rally supporting amnesty too.

Meet your new countrymen, comrades: educated, housed, clothed, fed, medicated, armed and ready to join La Raza and fly Mexican flags — all done with YOUR tax dollars.

    they say certain words

    “obama sent me.”

    • MBlanc46

“I’m surprised obama isn’t sending moving vans down to the border to help illegals colonize and bankrupt the U.S.”

Please don’t give them any ideas.

  • kjh64

According to U.N. asylum rules, asylum seekers are supposed to go to the first safe country they come to. So how can Chinese, Egyptians, Iranians and El Salvadorans come to the US when there are many safe countries between us and them?

    • MBlanc46

It’s all a sham. Everyone knows it’s economic migration pure and simple. Just as the Fort Hood massacre is terrorism. But here in Humpty-Dumpty-Land, we use words to mean what we want them to mean, not what the dictionary says they mean.

    The gov didn’t want to…
They HAD to.. Canada can’t afford its own population…
Meanwhile… why don’t we own Haiti now since that quake… actually… scratch that last comment, but I do know a vet from the Faulklands war that is homeless and our gov won’t own him because he doesn’t have a birth certificate

    • cancerous bananna

I should edit: the guy was born in a small town and his parents couldn’t read enough to register his birth.. from what I understand.

And Quebec is the one’s who want Haiti.. I remember all the froggies troops being so relieved to be sent there instead of like their white english brothers being sent to afghanistan.
