Chinese Wonder Why Their Tourists Behave So Badly

Li Hui and Ben Blanchard, Reuters, May 30, 2013

From faking marriage certificates to get honeymoon discounts in the Maldives to letting children defecate on the floor of a Taiwan airport, Chinese tourists have recently found themselves at the center of controversy and anger.

Thanks to microblogging sites in China, accounts of tourists behaving badly spread like wildfire across the country, provoking disgust, ire and soul-searching.

While in the past such reports might have been dismissed as attacks on the good nature of Chinese travelers, people in the world’s second-largest economy are starting to ask why their countrymen and women are so badly behaved.

“Objectively speaking, our tourists have relatively low-civilized characters,” said Liu Simin, researcher with the Tourism Research Centre of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

“Overseas travel is a new luxury, Chinese who can afford it compare with each other and want to show off,” Liu said. “Many Chinese tourists are just going abroad, and are often inexperienced and unfamiliar with overseas rules and norms.”

When a story broke recently that a 15-year-old Chinese boy had scratched his name into a 3,500-year-old temple in Egypt’s Luxor, the furor was such that questions were even asked about it at a Foreign Ministry news briefing.

Other incidents have attracted similar anger, including that of a mother who let her children defecate on the floor of Kaohsiung airport in Taiwan, just meters (feet) from a toilet. She did put newspaper down first.

Embarrassment over the behavior of some Chinese tourists has reached the highest levels of government, which has tried to project an image of a benign and cultured emerging power whose growing wealth can only benefit the world.

{snip}

This month, Vice Premier Wang Yang admonished the “uncivilized behavior” of certain Chinese tourists, in remarks widely reported by state media and reflecting concern about how the increasingly image-conscious country is seen overseas.

“They make a terrible racket in public places, scrawl their names on tourist sites, ignore red lights when crossing the road and spit everywhere. This damages our national image and has a terrible effect,” Wang said.

The central government has reissued guidelines on its main website on what it considers acceptable behavior for tourists, including dressing properly, queuing up and not shouting.

{snip}

“Travelling is a learning experience for tourists,” said Wang Wanfei, a tourism professor at Zhejiang University. “They learn how to absorb local culture in the process, and get rid of their bad tourist behavior.”

At least the Chinese are embarrassed by the behavior of some of their countrymen. It shows an ability to amend their ways.

A lot of people just off the boat think you’re being culturally intolerant and not properly “celebrating diversity” if you object to them or their child defecating on the floor.

    • The__Bobster

I wonder if the Japanese are embarrassed by their countrymen who go on sex tours of Southeast Asia.

      • Probably only their women are ashamed of this.

      • BaronBaal

There is no such thing as a sex tourist, but there are tourists who pay for sex when visiting abroad.

        • Morris LeChat

a sex tourist is a person that goes abroad for the purpose of purchasing human sex traffic that they can not purchase at home, such as children.

          • Correct. The distinction is that a sex tourist travels expressly for the purpose, rather than simply happening into an otherwise unplanned encounter.

  • gordon ramsey

Actually a few years ago I encountered what appeared to be chinese tourist. One of the scaled my fence and were wandering around my backyard like it was a public park. You see I live on a lake.I screamed at them the get out and they acted like I was not even there.Too bad I had not turned my 85 pound alaskan malamute on them.He would not have done anything but scare the crap out of them.

    • The__Bobster

But a half hour later, he would’ve been hungry for another Chinaman.

    • Erasmus

Be careful: That Chinaman might have seen that malamute and thought “Dinner!”

One of my Eureka moments came when I walked outside a grocery store in a suburban shopping center and saw a woman in Jamacian dress squatting down behind my truck tire. At first I thought she was stealing my hubcap. When I realized my mistake I went around to the passenger side and slithered in there…

    • Erasmus

Any discomfort or unhappiness you might have felt at stepping into jerk feces would be outweighed by the pleasure you felt knowing how much richer a country we are for having her and her 3rd world ways here in America.

    • eduard

Sounds like mandelatopia where the turd world savages defacate and urinate anywhere. When they have the urges they just go ahead and they don’t care where or when. They think they are civilized because they drive a wabenzi or any expensive wheels, but they are the most uncivilized bipeds on the face of the earth, a hundred times worse than a ricekaffir.

    • I’d have just kicked her in the head. It doesn’t soil you to hit them with your hands, but WHY NOT use your feet?

      • Morris LeChat

  • Intrepid

China has a huge population, meaning they’ll have a large segment of people who are just as bad behaved as western tourists are.

    • The__Bobster

We’re not talking about American tourists here. Why are you deflecting?

      • Intrepid

I’m offering an alternative explanation, unless you happen to think that ALL Chinese tourists behave badly. If that’s the case, then you’re being unreasonable.

        • SF Seal

Yeah right. Russia also has a huge population and even more outbound tourism than China, and they have never been singled out like the Chinese already are. What is going on here is that the average Chinese is nowhere as civilized as their booming economy would suggest, and no “alternative explanation” (aka”personal bias) can hide that FACT, ok?:

          • It would be impossible for me to believe a Russian family would spread newspaper on an airport concourse floor and have their child poop in public like a puppy. Chechens or Gypsies, perhaps, but not Russians.

Perhaps mainland Chinese tourists should be encouraged to visit Singapore. There are all manner of stiff fines there for public spitting and the like. And caning. Let’s not forget caning with a rattan lathi!

          • Luis

Maybe you mean 1.3 billion people. The whole world is about 7.3 billion.

We have some ways to go before the world reaches 113 billion.

          • Did they spend that $290 million stealing it from Motorola or Mircon?

  • gemjunior

When I was a kid my elderly aunt lived in Chatham Square downtown NYC and watched Chinatown grow from a couple of streets to what it is now. Of course I thought she was “prejudiced” in the early ’70s after watching a few episodes of Sesame Street diversity brainwashing. She always tallked about how she didn’t like the new Chinese spit all over and blow buggers out their nose by holding one side closed and blowing hard to increase the pressure and expel whatever contents were there – anywhere. So it is a very major cultural cultural difference when you are an old lady who always dobserve how everyone else would use a handkerchief.

    • Erasmus

Yup, the Chinese are notorious for hawking all over the street.

the engleman will ask you to document this with links and scholarly papers or he will tell you it is not fact

    • The snot-blowing was something I had never seen in my life until I visited mainland China in 1987. The ethnic Chinese I knew as a university undergrad in California in the same period were all completely assimilated 3rd + generation Americans, and they certainly didn’t do that.

      • potato78

in 1987, China is very rural.

If you visit now, I will see a huge difference between then and now.

        • I’m certain. I took lots of pictures of old places because I knew where China was going. I liked China then. I was lost in an industrial suburb of Nanjing after a dance, and I eventually found my way back to my proper compound after the night sky had cleared so I could see the stars. The gate guard was long gone, so I climbed the 3-meter fence with my borrowed bicycle and went down the other side, bicycle in right hand and unharmed. I locked the bicycle up in its proper place and attempted to sneak into my then-father’s room.

He’d been waiting for a while, but I woke him up coming in.

Of course there’s a very big difference in prosperity, but the habits of people change very slowly. I’m rural enough that I put the occasional rabbit in our stewpot.

  • Achaean

Chinese are generally dirty; one has only to walk into a Chinatown to smell their food, garbage, and spits. Now, combine this with their caging and consumption of just about any animal in the world.

      http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2013/05/29/united-states-files-lawsuit-against-philadelphia-food-warehouse-after-urine-feces-found-inside/

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The United States has filed a lawsuit in district court to
stop a Philadelphia warehouse from selling food that has been held in filthy
conditions, allegedly in violation of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.

According to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice, the suit was filed against New Rich City Trading Corporation, as well as president and owner, Ms. Xiaoping Sun, and manager, Mr. Si Yan Chuen.

FDA officials say the unsanitary conditions and filth inside the warehouse included animals such as rodents, birds, cats and dogs along with their feces and urine on and around food that was being stored there.

“You’re talking about bird waste, feline waste, dog waste, rodent waste – on and around the food,” said Assistant U.S Attorney Stacey Smith.

      • Morris LeChat

yep, those wonderful egg roles you eat at the restaurant? They don’t make them at the restaurant, they are mass manufactured at plants, probably much like this warehouse, then stored in warehouses like this, then shipped from warehouses like this.

    • So CAL Snowman

The Chinese treatment of animals is especially sickening. Say what you want about American consumption of meat, but we do more than any other country to protect the “dignity” of animal life (yes I know how that sounds). I won’t link to certain videos I have seen because they are too horrific for words and I know a lot of Amren readers have pets. There are Chinese videos of cats and dogs crammed into tiny stacked cages in warehouses and then the cats and dogs are skinned ALIVE. I still have nightmares about the sounds.

      • je suis paganisme

Yes, I heard William Pierce talk about that. I will never watch such horror.
The Chinese (some of them anyway; I think it is the Taoists) are behind the elephant and rhino slaughters. They think the horn will make their “horn” firmer.

        • Dude

It’s great to see people here know about Dr. Pierce.

I found out about Chinese bear bile farms on Reddit a few weeks ago. Apparently they’re still legal there. Read at your own risk: the descriptions of the cruelty are disturbing. I would shoot any person involved in operating these farms dead with no remorse.

        http://www.comicvine.com/forums/off-topic-5/mother-bear-kills-cub-then-self-at-chinese-bile-fa-628115/

        • They’re big on poaching bears in the United States Pacific Northwest. Probably across the border in Canada as well.

        • World_War_Me

I saw that too. I also would love to shoot those evil bastards.

      • World_War_Me

The animals are also boiled alive. It makes me want to kill myself.

      • World_War_Me

SoCal, thanks for your kind heart regarding those animals.

    • pcmustgo

Their food is amazing. I just don’t like their personalities.

      • Tamara Blitzer

Chinese food is disgusting! I prefer Japanese, Indian and middle eastern food, a lot more cleaner, healthier and tastier by comparison.

        • Morris LeChat

you can make chinese food yourself. I do,as far as a few main dishes are concerned, it is better than anything one gets at a restaurant. Basically, the purpose of cooking the chinese way is to cut the pieces of meat and vegetables up so thin and small that they cook quickly and evenly and there is more browning or caramelization on each piece . The trick is to NEVER allow anything to “simmer” in a liquid, until maybe the very end when one puts the sauce on, but that should be just enough to coat each piece in the wok, not so much that a stew or gray is made. More time is spent cutting things up than cooking. Cooking usually goes very fast. Stir fried pork cooks much quicker than pork chops and is much tastier.

          • When I was doing restaurant work, I brought home overage (condemned) meat. It was pre-cooked, but I always stir-fried it just to be sure. Turning out decent Chinese food at home is absurdly easy. Ditto for Mexican, and one is much less likely to catch hepatitis eating home-cooked food made from fresh ingredients, rather than whatever expired crud Juan or Feng wanted to get rid of.

      • BonusGift

Oh, you must really enjoy their human fetus soup. What about a nice dog dish (and, just to be clear, I don’t mean Spot’s water bowl)?

  • NYB

It could be that they come from a culture which exalts the winner who is above pity or scruples.

Nothing is sacred to the Chinese mind. They are a people who ruthlessly exploit endangered species, natural resources, the labor market, and any weaknesses expressed by neighbor states.

The Chinese are not “embarrassed” by reports of their behavior. They will still harvest shark fins, smuggle ivory from endangered elephants, cheat on exams, steal proprietary industrial secrets, go on birth tours to the U.S., and spit wherever they please.

    • Intrepid

America went to war for natural resources (read: oil). That’s right, people we never knew had to die for us to get it. We also exploit the weaknesses of our enemies, and have intelligences agencies that conduct espionage. Lots of American students cheat in school, and lots of companies (e.g., McDonalds) harm the environment such as rainforests. None of this stuff is remotely exclusive to the Chinese.

      • The__Bobster

We’re not talking about American industry here. Why are you deflecting?

        • Intrepid

I’m not deflecting. We’re talking about China and the U.S. Under your logic, NYB must have been talking about Chinese industries too.

          • Bob

You are deflecting. China is under discussion, not the U.S.

          • ms_anthro

No, we’re only talking about China. You were the one deflecting by mentioning the US. Stay on topic, please. Your typical multiculti tactics don’t work here.

      • David Ashton

Good and bad in all races. But the Chinese have always preferred their own race to others. Why shouldn’t we?

        • Alexandra1973

Good and bad in all races is true.

What libtards can’t seem to wrap their heads around is the fact that some races have more bad in their bunch than others.

    • Jotun Hunter

that’s because they don’t feel emotions

    • I can understand the shark fin bit, but only so long as the rest of the shark is processed as well, for the skin, meat and liver. Even the offal can be dried and ground for use later as poultry feed. Unfortunately, that’s not what the Chinese fishing fleet does; they keep the fin and dump the rest of the animal back in the water.

      • World_War_Me

You are correct. It’s horrible. The sharks are left to drown. I hate this world.

  • IstvanIN

Can you imagine if black officials, from any country, were publicly embarrassed over the race-mates uncivilized behavior?

  • bigone4u

Professor exchange programs with China, common at most US universities, shortchange the students because the Chinese professors can only speak the sing-song “ching chong” dialect that butchers English to the ultimate degree. They also scarf up massive amounts of legal intelligence to bring back to China and feed to the government. AND, as usual, the male profs love to bring that goofy Chinese style of lovin to white women. The administraters give them a pass on the sexual harassment front, just as they try to do for blacks and Hispanics. White males pay the ultimate penalties, however.

  • Chinese proverbs:
Man who runs in front of car, gets tired.
Man who runs behind car gets exhausted.
Man who drive like hell, bound to get there.

Anyways, we Americans have our own embarrassments. You should see what Americans of all races wear when they go through an airport customs. Men with homemade tank tops, and their wives or girlfriends in baggy gray sweat pants, flip flops, and exposed tattoos.
Then, there are the foreigners from countries that don’t believe in deodorant, or bathing at least once a week.

It is crazy to educate our enemies, be they Red Chinese or Islamic. America has more enemies than anybody, but Washington pretends otherwise to please business and university interests. Our national security is severely endangered by short-term economic choices, like colleges welcoming full-tuition students from dangerous nations like Saudi Arabia and Red China.

    • Intrepid

Middle Easterners may have been involved in terror activities against America, but the Chinese have never waged a war outside Asia in their entire 5000 year history… and I seriously doubt they’re going to start now. Your post reeks of unwarranted paranoia.

      • bigone4u

When totalitarian regimes have the instruments to wage war, they eventually tend to use those instruments. Chinese nuclear subs equipped with ICBMs are a fact. I do not view that as paranoia.

        • Intrepid

Chinese armament is both a response to ours, and a natural function of their increasing economy. We had nuclear subs before they did. How do you think they felt about that? Unsafe I’m sure.

          • bigone4u

Like the US is going to attack China and cut off its supply of junky products Americans are addicted to. If the US had wanted to attack China we had the perfect excuse during the Korean War.

          • Intrepid

China has a right to its own security. We’re in their backyard and they’re understandably skeptical about that.

We are there to protect Japan from China. We insisted that Japan disarm after WWII. China is threatening Japan as is China’s client, North Korea.

          • Intrepid

China and Japan aren’t at war. The Japanese don’t need protection. We insisted that Japan disarm for two reasons. First, for our own safety. Second, if we “protect” Japan then that means we have an excuse to stay in East Asia (i.e., for geopolitical reasons).

          • China claims islands that Japan owns. China also claims islands that the Philippines owns. China further claims islands that Vietnam owns.

They want EEZ rights and Chinese poach fish in many nations’ territorial waters.

            Is there a pattern here?

          • Intrepid

Again, China’s disputes with its neighbors are their own affairs. Not ours. If there was a squabble in Europe, would you want China butting in? Probably not.

          • Let them try.

          • Tamara Blitzer

If China tried, they’d win. Technically, China is a lot more powerful than any European power with the exceptionof Russia!

          • Think “power projection”. How exactly would Chinese forces get to Europe? What logistical support would they receive once there?

          • Morris LeChat

That has always been China’s problem, but it has always been it’s protection as well. The Himalayas, the Gobi and Taklamaklan deserts, Siberia and the Pacific. Hemmed in and also protected on all sides.

          • Quite. The “Warring States” period resulted in China consolidating within the natural boundaries you mentioned.

As you know, every government has its own censor rules.

      • They’re doing their level best to pick fights with Japan, Vietnam and the Philippines over EEZ fishing rights.

        • Intrepid

Economic disputes between Asian nations are not our concern.

          • When we disarmed Japan we instantly made it our problem.

          • Intrepid

Simple. Let Japan re-arm. But you don’t really want that do you?

          • potato78

How about this, I would like to give Whole China to Japan, not part of China.
Let Japs rules the whole China and Whole Asia. Let’s see what would happan?

          • Yes, and Sayaka is from a famous navy family.

          • A nuclear armed Japan would solve many problems for the US. Since they use breeder reactors and recycle the plutonium, I imagine they have enough Pu-239 on hand for 500 nuclear bombs. The lithium deuteride is easy to make, and in fact you get a bigger “kaboom” if the lithium is the natural isotopic distribution, as we discovered with the Castle Bravo “oops” shot. I suspect North Korea would cut their nonsense out right away, for instance.

          • Xanthippe2

Aren’t nukes so old school? Isn’t there better, (if needed) bigger, and cleaner stuff around? Who has this?????

          • They’re old school, but for efficient destruction, they’re tough to beat. The problem of course is that they’re too destructive. I read several years ago in one of the science mags at the public library that a nuclear exchange between India and Pakistan with 200 weapons used in total, would kill about 200 million right away, with about a billion dying over the course of a year due to the lower crop yields the resulting “nuclear autumn” would produce (the Tambora volcano eruption of 1815 produced terrible famines as well). The starvation would be limited to the Third World; crop failures in the West would simply mean we’d export less.

      • Xanthippe2

Who says was is the only, or even the best, way to power? Still agree that “American” traitors were the first problem and remain the biggest, tho.

Designs for many of the nation’s most sensitive advanced weapons systems have been compromised by Chinese hackers, according to a report prepared for the Pentagon and to officials from government and the defense industry.

Among more than two dozen major weapons systems whose designs were breached were programs critical to U.S. missile defenses and combat aircraft and ships, according to a previously undisclosed section of a confidential report prepared for Pentagon leaders by the Defense Science Board.

Experts warn that the electronic intrusions gave China access to advanced technology that could accelerate the development of its weapons systems and weaken the U.S. military advantage in a future conflict.

The Defense Science Board, a senior advisory group made up of government and civilian experts, did not accuse the Chinese of stealing the designs. But senior military and industry officials with knowledge of the breaches said the vast majority were part of a widening Chinese campaign of espionage against U.S. defense contractors and government agencies.

    • Intrepid

All of that pales in comparison to the amount of weapons knowledge we give to Israel, who then sell it to the Chinese. By the way, focusing on China’s espionage completely ignores the fact that we’re probably hacking them too.

What that article isn’t telling you is that Smithfield hasn’t been doing well lately. In any case, their partnership with China will be mostly one way – exports to China. The Chinese want pork and are trying to learn from Smithfield to improve the safety of their own domestic food industries.

        • potato78

          Sigh,
          Smithfield desperately needs Cash Flow!
          4 billion dollars, not inexpensive!
I wish Congress men would say that no deal because we can not sell our secrets to Chinaaaa.

          • Pork secrets?

I have two questions: (1) What are you smoking? (2) Did you bring enough for everyone?

          • potato78

Everything China wants to buy is labeled “secrets”.

          • Morris LeChat

who writes your posts? Sounds like the same guy who wrote the dialogue for the “Charlie Chan” movie series.

      • Xanthippe2

Who has the most hackers percentage wise: The U.S., Israel, or China? Whom do the hackers in the 3 countries seek to benefit?: I will leave the first question up to speculation, but there cannot be much doubt that Israeli hackers help Israel and Chinese hackers help China. Hackers in the U.S.????

      • David Ashton

What matters to “us” is what harm others can to do us. Better if we can win a cyber war against China than vice versa.

      • Israel hasn’t sold much weapons technology to China. Israel’s biggest foreign arms customer is India, China’s enemy. China’s biggest foreign arms customer, on the other hand is Pakistan, India’s enemy and a Muslim nation that as such is hostile to Israel on general principals.

    • potato78

      The_Bobster,

How much do you like to be brainwashed?

That is American culture, which is preemptive strike and complaining.

Pentagon report is fiction! Trust me.

They all should be fired if like a Pentagon report said.

US is motherland of innovated hackers.

      China is still undergraduate student.

US hacked China more than millions times before China hacked back.

Once China hacked back, US is starting to cry out about China. that is tactics. I called “preemptive strike”, which is American Culture.

I am pretty sure that US guarded all secrets and designs very well.

Another tactics is that “widening Chinese campaign of espionage against U.S. defense contractors and government agencies.”, which means that whatever China has done a great job by themselves will be discredited. In US medias, whatever achievement China has had done just because espionage of US secrets. I don’t like US has any business with China, either way, but anyone else.

  • So CAL Snowman

The Japanese seem to be the exact opposite; quiet, polite, and restrained. At least that is what I have observed in my travels here in the States and abroad.

    • dd121

Guess you forgot the savagery they exhibited during WWII.

      • So CAL Snowman

We are talking about Japanese tourists, not WW2 Japanese infantry. If you want to talk savagery, why don’t you look at pictures of Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki after WW2.

        • dd121

Ironically, nuking them saved millions of American and Japanese lives. The reason you have pictures of a devastated Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki is because they started a f-ing savage war with us. They lost.

          • a multiracial individual

Why was it decided not to hold a demonstration of our firepower?

          • dd121

They did discuss that possibility. One plan was to blow the top off Mt. Fuji. With only two bombs in the inventory they decided to drop them on cities. I’m not sure of all the reasons. My father, who was in Europe, was awaiting orders to be shipped to the Pacific theater to fight the Japs. I’m glad he didn’t have to go.

      • That whole war was a tragic mistake on the part of their military junta that took over in 1936. Their refusal to sign the 1936 London Naval Treaty didn’t make any sense. Japan was allowed 3/5 the size of the US fleet, but in any arms race, we could easily reduce their fleet to irrelevance. Their decision to build super-battleships of the Yamato class was also horribly mistaken. They would have made the older pre-1922 ships of 35,000 tons or less obsolete, but Japan had 9 of these in 1936 (they re-activated Hiei as a 10th), while we had 15. We laid down 6 Iowa class ships and planned five Montana class, and could have built more battleships, had not carriers proved more effective. Of wartime large fast carriers, they laid down Taiho and six Unryo class, of which Taiho and three Unryus were completed. We laid down 26 Essex class carriers and completed 24, also ordering 6 Midway class of which we laid down and completed 3.

The Japanese military junta disliked Western colonialism in Asia, but so did we. The US had already promised the Philippines independence before the war, and postwar, we refused to help the Dutch recover control of Indonesia or the French in Indochina.

Yes, China has prospered in recent decades, but what caused this? Free trade with the US: the same free trade that we always wanted and interruption of which dragged us into conflict with Japan.

        • Xanthippe2

Uh oh, here is that “we” again. I am not part of that “we,” are you?

          > Yes, China has prospered in recent decades, but what caused this? Free trade with the US: the same free trade that we always wanted and interruption of which dragged us into conflict with Japan.

        • dd121

Never mind the historical and geo-political reasons for the war. I merely pointed out that they behaved savagely. They murdered at least a third of the POWs they captured, they engineered the Bataan death march, the rape of Nanking. These are just the well known examples.
Yes, I’ve been to an ultra-ritualistic Japanese tea ceremony. They were icily polite.
I merely pointed out another side of them that perhaps lies buried in all humans.

          • They treated Western POWs much better than they treated Chinese and Indian POWs. Think about it.

          • BaronBaal

            Can you prove that?

          • The survival rate for Chinese POWs taken by Japan was approximately zero. The Imperial High Command on January 15, 1942 issued the Supplement to Army Operation Orders stating that soldiers “…must not treat the new Western enemies as if they were Chinese.”

US got unprecedented prosperity for 30 years without any inflation because of China, except that gasoline price increased to $4 due to Iraqi war.

          • And China bidding up the price of crude oil for the economy our money inflated. Please let’s not forget that!

    • shmo123

I agree. I use to see busloads of them in San Francisco when I lived there and the people who dealt with them told me they were always unfailingly polite, courteous and loved to spend money in high end shops. They also loved to take pictures of virtually anything–sidewalks, manhole covers, bums, you name it. A bit strange perhaps at times, but always welcome.

      • Xanthippe2

Well there are certainly enough bums in SF to keep them busy. Hopefully no one was a completest!

      • David Ashton

Oriental settlers changing western societies are not.

      • Morris LeChat

        • shmo123

    • Xanthippe2

Jared Taylor grew up in Japan and has commented on such topics in the past. Something I recall: he said that the Japanese in Japan treat other Japanese according to long-established customs. There are no long standing customs about how non-Japanese are treated. Might be great, might be horrid. Gave the example of a Japanese man putting a White woman’s hair in his mouth on a public bus (not a nutcase — it was okay because there were no real rules). Outside Japan, they would try to conform to the country they are visiting.

I am not complaining about how the Japanese act in Japan, it’s their country — just saying “good” and “bad” can be a bit simplistic. Also, I am trying to say that there are things one often hears and things one rarely hears. Why is that?

One guy told me the the US Navy gives priority to tour groups of Chinese visiting the USS Arizona monument in Pearl Harbor. So US tourists are turned away because the monument is too crowded with Chinese!

    • Intrepid

Your issue – should – be with the U.S. Navy, and the fact that they find tour groups more profitable than individual tourists. But I’m guessing you’re angry at the Chinese instead, right?

      • Xanthippe2

A grammatical analysis of Roger’s post seems to indicate “US Navy gives priority” is the main part (subject=U.S. Navy). “(T)our groups of Chinese” is secondary. Same with “US tourists are” and “crowded with Chinese.”

But by all means keep believing every bit of media/school propaganda you have ever been programmed with.

        Is dog kosher?

        • No. For meat to be kosher, the mammal must be a four-legged cud-chewer with cloven hooves:

Cattle, bison, water buffalo, goats, sheep, camels, antelope, llamas and alpacas are all kosher. Dogs, cats, pigs, horses, mules and rabbits are not.

Poultry is kosher so long as the bird is not a scavenger or bird of prey.

Fish must have scales, so eels, sharks and catfish are right out.

Reptiles and shellfish are not kosher.

Remember the phrase “The Ugly American?” That was the title of a book, I think published in the 1950s, about how Americans would travel abroad and expect natives in those countries to conform to American ways. Now the phrase “The Ugly American” has been corrupted to stand for anything Americans do that others don’t like. Now are we going to start hearing the new colloquialism, “The Ugly Chinese?” Don’t count on it.

    • bigone4u

You can still buy the book. From wikipedia:

The Ugly American is a 1958 political novel by Eugene Burdick and William Lederer upon which a 1963 movie starring Marlon Brando was based. The novel became a bestseller, was influential at the time, and is still in print. The book is a quasi-roman à clef; that is, it presents, in a fictionalized guise, the experience of Americans in Southeast Asia (Vietnam) and allegedly portrays several real people who are represented by pseudonyms.

You might be surprised. I don’t think anyone is buying into that “woe is me” Chinese victimhood song and dance anymore (not that there were great numbers that ever did).

  • pcmustgo

Really? I heard East Indians are awful tourists in that they have trouble respecting rules when it comes to creating an orderly line and not cutting ahead in line or the “queue”… That they are extremely rude.

    • evilsandmich

I recall (possibly correctly) in reading a book called Golden Arches East where the author pointed out that ‘auto-queueing’ is a very Western idea. Order from chaos as it were. This as opposed to China which seems to enjoy choosing variations of hobbesian ‘social orders’.

  • IstvanIN

Didn’t the Chinese government have to train Chinese mothers not to let their children poop in public or empty their babies diapers in public to get ready for the Olympics?

  • IKantunderstand

These are the people who have a higher average I.Q. than Whites. Right. I so totally believe that. Just like I believe Jews are smarter than White Christians. Because let’s see, we White Christians have Copernicus, Newton, everybody pretty much except Einstein. And, frankly, a White Christian would have come up with his theorem. Meanwhile, we dumb goys, invented electricity, flight, communications, pretty much everything. So, I posit to the world, Einstein was a freak of nature, all the rest of the worlds amazing discoveries were done by White Christians. Oh, wait, I’m sorry, this was supposed to be about the Chinese. Those ignorant barbarians, who have no respect for the environment, who won’t live in a house unless there is at least one number that is an eight. And so, what are our choices here? The Chinese who think nothing of eating your pets? Or the Muslims who think your dog is unclean and deserves to die? Same difference. Their music, equally unsavory. Is there any wonder why the Chinese go out of their way to learn White music? To learn how to play the violin? Their music sucks. And they know it. There are no crowds standing around the coliseums of the world, waiting to hear Chinese music. Or Indian music.

    • China has really filthed up their own environnment to an amazing degree. Let’s also not forget how they put down that menacing student protest in 1989 with tanks. It made Kent State look like a church bingo game. They also prop up Stalinist nutcases in North Korea when even China isn’t run by Stalinist nutcases anymore. These Stalinist nutcases starved two mllion of their own people to death while building atom bombs, though the Kim family doesn’t seem to have missed any meals. The hypocrites tested an antisatellite weapon, leaving debris in orbit and then threw a hysterical fit when the US destroyed a malfunctioning satellite of our own loaded with toxic hydrazine, leaving no debris in orbit.

Keep up the good work, China!

      • Paul

Ah… go back to the 1950s in America. Other than having larger breasts white women probably had similar size bodies to what Asians have now. fifty years of junk food and hormones injected into food has made us all bigger.

        • potato78

I wish white women could go back to 1950ish. My eyes would feel more spark and comfortable.

      • Mine eats raw fish, but so do I. Your mileage may vary!

      • My wife’s rather nice looking – Jomon phenotype, rather than Yayoi – and I was never a “breast man”; I like them slender and athletic-looking. My mother says she’s “movie star pretty”. As for eating dogs, she’s the raw fish-eating variety. I prefer salt-water fish raw as well; cooking it spoils the taste.

Since I am 3/16 eastern woodlands American Indian and an ex-con, I’d imagine you’d be delighted I’m not married to a white gal. Also, too many otherwise nice-looking white gals have tattoos, and I can’t abide tattoos.

Our daughter looks so much like me that Sayaka and I joke about wondering who her mother was.

Sayaka doesn’t mind me using the basement as a machine shop, but I did get her a very nice production quality Bernina sewing machine. She also has her own desk, which I stay out of.

I suspect a lot of the people who gripe about WM/AF pairings have never been married to anyone. I also suspect that many of the people who promote these marriages have never been married to anyone.

Whomever you get serious about, get a good look at that young lady’s mother, because if you end up marrying her, she’ll eventually look like her mother. For young women, I would suggest you watch how your boyfriend treats other people, especially his own mother, because he’ll eventually become comfortable enough that he’ll treat you the same way, whatever his personal “default setting” happens to be.

This article appears to have no relevance at all to the approximately 1,000 Chinese
exchange students on our campus. As a group, they behave with remarkably more
civility than do the American students. They clearly prefer in elective social contact,
to socialize among themselves, but there is more and more socialization with the American
students. The Chinese students have almost never been seen in elective socialization with
Blacks. There is some “sense” that emerges from the well behaved Chinese students that
they feel themselves part of a society rapidly ascendant that is distinctly superior to ours and part of a segment of the Asian race that has a biologically based mental superiority to ours.
The Black-like conduct portrayed in this article certainly is not to be found among these Chinese students on this American campus.

    • SF Seal

Actually, it’s your post that appears to have no relevance to this article.

Those 1,000 exchange students you’re referring to are indeed “part of a segment” that is not representative of the average Chinese who can now afford to travel outside mainland China. The true backward behavior of their indigenous culture is finally being exposed worldwide, and it’s about time people like you stop pretending that middle and upper class college students who are often from Hong Kong or Taiwan epitomize the Asian race.

The myth of that intangible Asian “mental superiority” which has never took any shape or form to dominate Western civilization is falling apart, and the fact that it is them who are coming to our country to study should have been a clue. You’re bias and you’re BUSTED !

    • Morris LeChat

the chinese DETEST blacks. The Chinese have no illusions about racial equality. They were never brainwashed that way and they spot negroness in every inflection and action of a black person.

  • 5Sardonicus

I really can’t comment on general Chinese behavior as tourists because I haven’t observed that many while on vacation in Europe. However, as students at my University, they behaved correctly and didn’t cause any trouble. They were generally model students: quiet, polite, hard-working, However, a good friend from Taiwan told me that the mainland Chinese behaved like “jerks” in her country, but how the average Chinese acts overseas I can’t say.

  • 428CobraJet

Don’t forget that the Chinese eat human fetuses. It isn’t just a rumor. I’ve seen pictures of it. Someone try to compare that to bad Western tourists.

    • nobody

Think about it. How many abortions do you think that the Chinese government has forced their billions of citizens to have over the years? Don’t they have a strict one child policy? What do they do with all of the fetuses? I wouldn’t be surprised.

      • I’ve seen it on YouTube, but I doubt it is common, any more than sex trips to Manila are “common” among Japanese (and Australian) men.

As an aside, the One Child policy isn’t written in stone. One couple I knew in Nanjing – both university professors – were allowed two because they were intelligent. Other couples who have an unapproved second child generally won’t get government jobs. Non-Han ethnic minorities (Uyghurs, Tibetans, etc.) are automatically allowed two per couple.
