FBI Arrests NASA Contractor Employee Trying to Flee to China

Richard Pollock, Washington Examiner, March 18, 2013

Bo Jiang, the Chinese national scientist employed by a NASA contractor for work at the space agency’s Langley Research Center, was arrested Sunday by the FBI at Dulles International Airport as he tried to flee to China, according to Rep. Frank Wolf, R-VA.

Wolf said during a Capitol Hill news conference today that Jiang’s work at the NASA facility had given him access to information that “would be of the greatest interest to foreign spies, including China.”

Wolf is chairman of a House Appropriations Committee subcommittee that has budget oversight authority for NASA.

He made Jiang’s name public for the first time last week during a subcommittee hearing where he also charged that Jiang had taken “voluminous sensitive” NASA documents back to China on a trip in 2012.

Jiang was employed by the National Institute of Aerospace, a Hampton, VA-based NASA contractor. The position afforded Jiang virtually unlimited, unescorted access to the NASA Langley facility, which is the location for classified research programs related to U.S. space defense technologies.

{snip}

The FBI is “investigating conspiracies and substantive violations of the Arms Export Control Act,” according to the FBI’s arrest warrant.

Jiang also is charged with making a false statement to federal law enforcement agents, including his attempt to conceal a “laptop, and old hard drive and a SIM card,” according to the FBI agent.

{snip}

Wolf also said he believes Jiang’s information “may pertain to the source code for high-tech imaging technology that Jiang has been working on with NASA.  This information could have significant military applications for the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army.”

{snip}

During the same hearing last week in which Wolf revealed Jiang’s name, NASA Inspector-General Paul Martin said he believes there are nearly 200 Chinese nationals working in positions that afford them significant access to the agency and its programs.

Lesson for Engelman: a high IQ isn’t all that matters….

    • Bill

      Love it!

    • a multiracial individual

IQ is the most important thing, but it is not the only thing. You are correct to be cautious about IQ alone analyses. However, consider Europe today, These nations were engaged in a vicious power struggle for several centuries, despite the fact they all had similar IQ. Now, they appear to be getting along quite well as neighbors. In fact, the main problem I see from Europe is their insane lack of resistance to Islam. Given enough time, it is possible that White-Asian nations will get along just as well as White-White nations do now (IQ of course being the common feature). Given the relationship the US has with S. Korea and Japan, there is no reason to think that our relationship with China will always be adversarial.

      • The__Bobster

Yeah, like these countries haven’t declared economic war on us.

        • Nathanwartooth

China devalues it’s currency just to keep up with our collapsing currency so it can continue to sell us products from it’s factories.

Japan also has a vested interest in America because it sells so much of it’s media here. Video games, anime, etc.

While I think that we need to bring back manufacturing to the US, I don’t see why the first world countries can’t all be allies vs. the third world.

          • Michael_C_Scott

I suspect we will see this happen as oil prices continue to rise. The fuel expenses involved in transporting finished goods across the Pacific Ocean will eventually impose limitations on the sorts of products for which this is economical.

      • GM (Australia)

Adversarial is to be preferred to subservient and that is where we will be when China outdoes us in aerospace and associated military technology. As John Engleman keeps telling us the Chinese are very smart, they also have the population numbers, resources and enterprise to get to the top, all they need is our know-how and technology. In the meantime they just flock to our universities and technical training institutions.

        • George

In the 1980s, it was a resurgent Japan that was considered the threat to the West. Japanese corporations were buying every bit of US real estate they could get their little hands on.

Capitalism requires competition to drive growth & innovation. We just need to step up our game again.

        • Beloved Comrade

“they also have the population numbers, resources and enterprise to get to the top.”

No, they don’t. When the US economy collapses, as it inevitably will, they will go down too.

They are like a hive and do not have our creativity. We put a man on the moon in 1969, not them. Why are we speaking English and not Mandarin?. They come here to steal what whites have created because they can’t. Their “technology” is based on that created by whites, not them.

You and Engelman may want to be lorded over by the Chinese, I do not.

Really, do you think they have any respect for whites or any other race except their own?

          • David Ashton

I would not be complacent. Better a thriving US economy that does not depend on buying Chinese exports, and with a defense system superior to any opponent.

          • Beloved Comrade

We had this at one time, after the last internecine war that should have NEVER HAPPENED and slaughtered millions of our bright, young people.

We Whites no longer have control of the US, its media or government, none of it, top to bottom. We have been conquered by genocidal, anti-white beasts who desire our eradication. They’re doing this by flooding the US with nonWhites and debasing our currency. I know you know this but I want to put the message out there for those here who think our biggest problem is feral blacks. It isn’t.

          • Michael Harreskov

Here’s a novel concept, Americans buying from Americans…

          • GM (Australia)

Please note, I NEVER ever want to be lorded over by Chinese (or any other ethnic group) EVER! The implication in my post is that the Chinese have the numbers and resources but they need our technology and know-how to get to the top and we are just plain stupid to give it to them.

          • Beloved Comrade

“We” didn’t give it to them, I didn’t, other people did –traitorous monsters who wish for the demise of whites and an end to white homelands, including yours.
Those who are doing this to us should be hanged from the nearest lampposts.

The Chinese are only taking advantage of what they are allowed to by the hostile nonWhite elite that control our government –yours too. Our new overlords are genocidal, antiWhite beasts who desire the eradication of the white race.

      • pcmustgo

Hmmmmmm…. they have a population of 1 billion I’m sure they’d love to “unload” on Europe or US… I’m not sure, it depends if Asians continue to keep going with the oppressed minority/victimhood model of being a minority that turns otherwise kind whites off so much. Depends on how well they assimilate.

      • Whites Only

Wrong as usual because you can’t deal with being “MUTTiracial”.

Europeans are finally getting along because they are all WHITE. White-asian nations getting along “just as well” is nothing but your personal wishful thinking. Please grow up already.

IQ isn’t the most important thing, RACE is the most important thing, and these spying two faced asians ARE NOT and NEVER will be WHITE.

        • Whites Only

PS: Newsflash: Japan and South Korea are only getting along with us now because they still need our WHITE protection from China and North Korea, tsk-tsk.

          • Michael_C_Scott

Those two nations also have export-driven economies and are thus dependent on their largest customer – us.

          • Nathanwartooth

Exactly. Trade can be a great way to keep the peace.

          • Michael Harreskov

Or In Japan’s case it could be the smack down the USA gave them in WW2…

        • a multiracial individual

“MUTTiracial”? LOL… nice one. I’m not sure why you’re getting so excited that you feel the need to name-call.

Japan and the US are only 70 years removed from complete war with each other, and they are already as cozy as any two white nations you can name.
Japan does not need our protection from China. However, I will concede that S. Korea likely still needs our support against N. Korea.

I guess I should qualify what I said earlier, IQ is not the most important thing, economics is. The reason I say that IQ is the most important thing is because IQ (both individual and collective) is the best predictor of economic success (both individually and nationally). Are you a business owner? If you are, you can appreciate why business owners are usually more interested in hiring the best people for the job. Most White business owners (even racially aware ones) are not going to hire a white simply because of their race. If there is another candidate from a different race who is more qualified than the white person, they are going to hire that candidate instead. Why? Because they want talented people to help them make as much money as possible. It’s that simple. The only reason people do not hire Blacks and Hispanics is because it is difficult to find ones that are qualified, not because they are of a different race.

      • Beloved Comrade

There won’t be any white nations left the way things are going now. ALL are being flooded non-stop with high fertility nonWhites from Africa and Asia. An amnesty will put a quick end to white America as 30 million illegals become citizens and bring in the rest of Mexico as a part of family reunification. All are here to steal from whites.

IQ is not the most important thing: Affirmative Action, cheap labor and H1b visas trump IQ and creativity. This is a war on whites, make no mistake, a plan designed to put and end to the white race.

      • David Ashton

I support peaceful and friendly co-existence between nations and cultures, and even some voluntary exchange of good ideas. But nations and cultures must survive for this purpose. If there as to be an international “supremacy” among them, however, I prefer it to be white and western. Both a “China-Africa” and a “Eurabia” seem undesirable to me.

        • a multiracial individual

Yes, I prefer the Western model as well. I think free-thought is more important than conformity, but conformity has it’s place as well. That is what is great about the Western model, “The mean between extremes.” I respect all peoples’ desire for autonomy as well.

Regarding China in Africa, I think that it is possible that China could do some very good work in Africa (as they will not have political correctness hampering their efforts).

          • David Ashton

They are the only nation with a large enough infantry to keep order in the vast spaces of Africa, but they are entirely ethnocentric and are disliked by blacks who work for them.

    • Duane A.

Engleman is just a lost elitist, not a racialist as the purpose of this website. These snobs, which include many insecure asians, mixed up eurasians, bullied geeks and treasonous White spouses here, couldn’t care less about the preservation of the White race. They seem to think that AR is some kind of forum to bash blacks and browns as if high IQ is all it takes to beget White children. These are the true enemies to our cause and I have more respect for a racist Black Panther that any of these back stabbers who secretly look down on simple Whites.

  • E_Pluribus_Pluribus

There are approximately 225,000 Chinese nationals studying at elite U. S. universities. My own alma mater, Duke University, is now 22 percent Chinese.

The religion of diversity, overcapacity in U. S. university science and engineering departments (built up in the 50s and 60s), and the economic incentive for universities of collecting full-tuition from foreign national students have resulted in a massive influx of Asians into the U. S. technology world. See for example this report:

All of this facilitates the transfer and outright theft of U. S.technology for the benefit of China and other nations who are not friends of the U. S. No one in Washington — except perhaps Representative Wolf — seems to be doing anything about it.

    • purestocles

      E P P, you speak truth.

Especially the part about the “collecting full tuition from foreign national students”. Few people are acquainted with how vital this is to our strapped-for-cash state-funded community colleges etc.

      • purestocles

Hah! I just now see where my comment is redundant. Bobster below made the same point (and more).

  • Eagle_Eyed

On my phone. The original article (at least for the mobile site) has a picture of a white guy uncaptioned, making it seem that this individual is the perpetrator. Odd for the Examiner.

China has no problem stealing Western secrets, we all know this. It’s the collective stupidity of naive Americans in government, the military, big business, etc. which I don’t get. The Orient should always be viewed suspiciously–its view on honesty subserves its view on appearance.

    • Xanthippe2

Well, many are getting good money and benefits for selling the U.S. out and take a “me first” attitude, A subset of these hate White America anyway — so it is a double win for them.

    • jambi19

I have had recent conversations with university marxists about private property rights. It seems the dominant opinion on property rights in neoCOM theory is that not only is private property something that must be suppressed, but intellectual property (i.e. patents, technology, networking, copyright laws) must be confiscated as well. The neoCOMs view intellectual property as a weapon of oppression. Sick sick people marxists are. Naturally Chinese communists have little respect for intellectual property and industrial/military espionage comes naturally to them.

      • The__Bobster

Industrial espionage and counterfeiting are rampant in China.

    • White Mom in WDC

Right on. There is a Food market near me that is run by a bunch of Chinamen. Overpriced shite. I take my kids in there and raid the free samples as much as possible. They hate me

  • Michael_C_Scott

I sure hope someone saved a few bucks hiring Jiang instead of an American!

    • MikeS

They did until he got arrested. Now all of us will have the “White” privilege of paying for his treachery. This would be in the form of his legal costs, incarceration costs, the cost of the rope, etc.

      • Michael_C_Scott

Of course. It costs approximately $40,000 a year to keep someone incarcerated in federal prison. That’s on top of the damage he’s already done leaking classified US technology, technology that was expensive to develop.

When I was in the microelectronics industry, my bosses were shredding armloads of unread resumes while swearing they couldn’t find qualified Americans to fill engineering slots. These positions they reserved for H-1bs.

Jiang’s not the only one in this story who needs to go to prison; his bosses need to be in cells right down the hall.

        • David Ashton

He’s the one that didn’t get away.
How many don’t we know about?

  • E_Pluribus_Pluribus

A passage from Jared Taylor’s WHITE IDENTITY: Racial Consciousness in the 21st Century (2011) highlights the challenge Asian diversity presents for national security:

“China is hungry for American technology and devotes a major part of its huge espionage effort to the United States. The Chinese method of spying is different from that of the classic Soviet technique of sending trained professionals to burrow deep into enemy organizations. Beijing gets intelligence from thousands of part-time amateur spies: students, businessmen, and Chinese citizens of the target countries. According to the US Government Intelligence Threat Handbook, 98 percent of the Americans the Chinese approach for information are Chinese-Americans: ‘Ethnic targeting to arouse feelings of obligations is the single most distinctive feature of PRC [Peoples Republic of China] intelligence operations . . .’

“Actual arrests, which, according to government sources, ‘are just the tip of the iceberg of an already-large and increasingly capable PRC intelligence effort,’ show that some Chinese-Americans are indeed susceptible to racial-nationalist appeals.” (pp 212-213)

  • MikeS

Any employee that is caught engaging in this type of activity should be tried for treason and hanged in public.

    • George

To be guilty of treason, one must be a citizen or have made some sort of oath or commitment of loyalty to a nation.

This is a Chinaman. Unless it has taken US citizenship, it’s not guilty of treason. Espionage, sure. Treason, no.

      • White Mom in WDC

Screw these rice burners. Time for them to roll. These people are masters at seeming peaceful when all the while they want to stick it White America.

      • MikeS

Thank you for your reply. You are correct in your statement about treason vs espionage. Either way, anyone (citizen or not) in his position should be required to sign a form stating that, if they are convicted of this type of activity, they will swing. Also, there should be no automatic appeals process in this type of case. His fate should serve as a warning to others who want to play the “press your luck” game with those of us who are true, patriotic, job holding, tax paying, law abiding, well informed, moral, ethical, incredibly tolerant to the point of extinction, legal citizens. Mr. chinaman meet rope. Rope, meet Mr. chinaman.

        • George

In the Clinton days, there were a number of Chinamen taking secrets out of Los Alamos. They all had connections to Chinese firms which were making contributions to the DNC.

          • MikeS

Wasn’t there a suitcase of cash involved? I hope Bill “my real last name isn’t” Clinton got a receipt for that stuff.

      • Tom in MI

This is an excellent example of another negative side effect of bringing in foreign workers to take jobs away from Americans !

  • bigone4u

Most of the Chinese profs working in the USA in faculty exchange programs are spying for their government. It’s pretty well known, but so long as the documents are not classified, it’s not illegal spying. The cultural Marxists on campus love these programs, knowing that the USA is being sold out.

  • APaige

Another crime by the model minority.

  • Bill

You’d be surprised and shocked to learn of how many Chinese Nationals are working in Los Alamos, Sandia, Livermore Labs, and other ultra secure places. You can thank our government for that. Particularly Clinton who got a LOT of contributions from the communist chinese during campaigns, well laundered, and for his library, also well laundered.

    • jambi19

      IBM, Apple heck even Zippo!

    • purestocles

Timely that I just finished reading the book “Claus Fuchs, Atom Spy”, the history of the German physicist who, while working at Los Alamos on the Manhattan Project, managed to transfer the secrets of the fission bomb to the Soviet Union. An ardent communist in his younger years, he fled Hitler’s Germany and found refuge in Britain where his talent for theoretical physics was first recognized and then later transferred to the U.S. He had undergone numerous back round checks and had been cleared each time with the rationale that, though a communist, any enemy of our enemy is a friend.

We are just incredibly naive to believe that foreign nationals who work here lose their allegiance to their native soil.

On a related note, I remember reading a book, the title of which escapes me, about the transfer of American technology through foreign companies buying American small high tech firms. In doing so, they acquire the patents–paid for by the American taxpayer through subsidies to State University Research Departments. So, we do the heavy intellectual lifting and they cash in on the production and distribution of the invention. Who’s running this asylum?

      • Formerly_Known_as_Whiteplight

On Claus Fuchs; he may have had the foresight to imagine nuclear stalemate and acted to create it. That’s not an impossible thing to imagine, especially when Truman considered using it in Korea, even when the USSR had acquired nukes (11-30-1950). In a perverse way, this may have prevented nukes from going off. It was a tense time and I remember it well as a child, but none every went off, even though we came close several times.

    • MikeS

They’re everywhere that they shouldn’t be. But if you question them, you’re the problem. It’s the perfect scam for a perfectly screwed up world.

    • Alfa158

I wouldn’t be surprised at all, since I live near several large defense companies and I see them taking strolls during lunchtime. Since immigration visas allowed companies to undercut Americans wages, the STEM fields are dominated by Asian graduates so both defense and commercial technology companies have to use Chinese engineers and scientists. I’m sure most of them have no interest in feeding technology back to the home country, but some small percentage are almost certainly PLA plants. Look at Wen Ho Lee at Sandia who walked out with a hard drive containing the entire database of American nuclear warhead designs. He was from Taiwan but I’ll bet that Taiwan is not where it went. If I had to guess there is almost nothing being developed in any high tech company that is not being fed right back to the Homeland. I used to work at a company that was the world leader in commercial GPS chips and I think I was the only American there who noticed that one of our star Chinese engineers sometimes wore his PLA GI web belt with buckle to work. I imagine he was probably getting a secret chuckle out of the fact he could flaunt it in front of the oblivious foreigners who had no idea what he was wearing.

  • NYB

Many of the Chinese ‘students’ are graduates of Chinese universities, on a mission to obtain work placements in American research labs.
The rewards for retrieving information on behalf of the motherland can be monetary, but deep in the heart of many Chinese is a yearning for a pat on the head by a ‘big boss’, and the satisfaction that they’ve served their race.

  • The__Bobster

There are Chinese spies (that Romney would love us to hire) and then there are the pathetic Engelmen (Engelmans?) of the world who want some young nookie nookie fortune cookie and would sell out the security of this country to get it:

HONOLULU — A civilian defense contractor who works in intelligence at the US Pacific Command has been charged with giving national security secrets to a 27-year-old Chinese woman he was dating, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Monday.

Benjamin Pierce Bishop, 59, is accused of sending the woman an email last May with information on existing war plans, nuclear weapons and US relations with international partners, according to the complaint filed in US District Court in Honolulu.

The complaint alleged Bishop told the woman over the telephone in September about the deployment of US strategic nuclear systems and about the ability of the US to detect other nations’ low- and medium-range ballistic missiles.

Great description. Englemen seems to drool when talking about his ‘orientals’. I can imagine him around the women. A constant erection.

      • pcmustgo

The fact that he’s a white male who can’t get an asian woman speaks volumes… they usually go for any white male. Though i’ve heard they only go for ones with money, and he lives in a black ghetto, so yeah, go figure…

        • Katherine McChesney

We have a single Chinese woman in our building. She’s in her mid 70’s but looks like she’s in her 60’s. Not pretty, but ‘cute’ and petite. She always has boyfriends. Now she has one whose in his 40’s. I can only imagine what she does for ‘her men’. I believe White men who ‘go’ for Asian women are sexually frustrated and like Asian sex games.

      • Michael_C_Scott

No wonder he drives them away.

    • bigone4u

I once made the mistake of dating a young woman from Korea who was studying at the university. Koreans have very unpleasant personalities to judge by this one. Her only interest in life was materialism. She also kept repeating, “Me sissa, she ugwe.” Due to that experience, I steer clear of asian women.

      • pcmustgo

They tend to be pretty shallow and materialistic and rude in their own special way, those Asians… incredibly emotionally cold too.

        • Michael_C_Scott

I think that applies mainly to Chinese.

Did he honestly believe they were in love? Once she started asking for information, he should have known what was going on and reported it.

    http://www.vdare.com/posts/media-chinese-cyber-intrusions-a-problem-but-red-china-s-students-not-so-much

Strangely, nobody seems concerned about the thousands of Chinese students who have been flooding our universities. In fact, they are the largest cohort of international students, with 127,628 Chinese attending US universities in the 2009-2010 school year.

The numbers of non-American students has increased generally because strapped colleges have become dependent on the full tuition paid by the foreigners.

In addition, political figures from across the spectrum think America should reward foreign students with an official welcome. For example, candidate Romney said he would “staple a green card to the diploma of someone who gets an advanced degree in America.”

How convenient for spies to be awarded entrance to our nation’s top technology companies! Cyber intrusion could be greatly enhanced by having actual humans physically present and able to pick up ideas before they reach the internet.
Seriously, the naiveté of many Americans about the national security threat of unfriendly immigrants is getting old.

Red China has been spying on the United States for years in various ways. During the trial of the accused spy Chi Mak, it was revealed that China has 3000 front companies in the United States to rip off secrets. China-born Mak himself was described by prosecutors as a “perfect sleeper agent”, who burrowed into the US defense establishment for decades as he rose to a position of high security clearance, ideal for stealing classified military information.

more chinese espionage in the news.

ASIANS VOTED MORE FOR OBAMA/DEMOCRATS THAN LATINOS… and they’re a growing very fast here in population.

Suspecting that Chinese nationals with access to our military secrets might be loyal to China is deemed an anti diversity hate crime.

If there aren’t enough American engineers, NASA should just do without.

We’ve imported so many fifth columns, it’s almost laughable.
    Obvious predictions:
The Chinese that infest our universities (like the one I went to in SF) and institutions will steal state secrets and return to their motherland, which is obviously going to rule the world (and aren’t they lucky they’re 92% Han Chinese?).
The Mexicans will rip the Southwest apart from the US (look at the gloating comments made by them on mainstream sites after Rand Paul came out for amnesty).
The Muslims will declare Michigan to be part of the Caliphate.
The blacks will continue to rampage with no clear goal because that’s just what they do.

At my college (which shall remain nameless) we have a fairly new Chinese Studies dep’t. It was simply there all of a sudden–oh, and an Arabic Studies dep’t.

Cultural Marxism at its finest—that will get them absolutely nowhere employment wise.

In the early 90s, when I was going my graduate studies at a big 10 university in the midwest, documentation totaling some 10,000+ pages of a supercomputer installed in the EE dept was stolen. The whole set must have measured some 3-4 feet end to end and not weighed less than a 100 pounds. I am sure the culprits weren’t blacks in this case. I don’t think they were subsequently recovered. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had ended up on the other side of the planet, in China.

” there are nearly 200 Chinese nationals working in positions that afford them significant access to the agency and its programs”

And how many Americans or Europeans are working in China with access to sensitive military or industrial data? I don’t know, but I’m fairly sure the number will be around zero.

As much as I hate their spying, you gotta love their women. I’ll let it slide.

  • CourtneyfromAlabama

How is this even possible? I thought Chinese people were just as innovative as whites, and destined to out-innovate us in the near future. At least that is what some of our own keep telling us.

  • vladdy1

I don’t imagine it compares at all to the NASA contractors and information Obeyme is giving outright to the muslims. (Remember? That’s NASA’s new mission?)

  • DudeWheresMyCountry?

These sort of problems don’t occur in China I imagine. Oh ya, they don’t have the plague of diversity forced upon them by their government. We say China’s government is absurdly horrible… and it is, but I don’t see their government selling it’s own citizens down the river because foreigners don’t like their own failed cultures.

  • Sloppo

They should make an example out of this fellow. We must do everything possible to guard NASA’s Muslim-world self esteem enhancement technology.
