Woman Who Drove Car on Pavement Punished with ‘Idiot’ Sign

Nick Allen, Telegraph (London), November 14, 2012

An American woman who drove her car on a pavement in an attempt to pass a stationary school bus has been forced to stand in public holding a sign describing her as an “idiot.”

The unusual sentence was imposed by a judge in Cleveland, Ohio on Shena Hardin, 32, after she was caught on camera trying to circumvent the bus as it unloaded children.

The sign she was made to hold read: “Only an idiot would drive on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus.”

Hardin stood for an hour in freezing temperatures at a busy road junction, ignoring passers-by and drivers honking their horns.

Lisa Kelley, whose nine-year-old daughter uses the bus, said: “She’s an idiot, just like her sign says. She did this almost every day last year.

“She won’t stop laughing. She’s not remorseful, she laughed at every court appearance. She’s still laughing, so she needs to be humiliated like this.”

Bill Lipold, 37, a local resident, yelled at Hardin: “Why do you hate kids?” He added: “How else are you going to stop her from doing it again? She really didn’t show remorse for her action after being caught, so you’ve got to try something.”

The terminology is strange. The only time I’ve seen non-paved roadways is in the Far North (where pavement tends to get sucked under the muskeg, so there’s no reason to bother with it). Now that I see they mean “sidewalk”, oh, ok.

After reading the rest of it, her punishment isn’t harsh enough. Give me a big, sturdy, 1980s era New Yorker, and let her stand in my path …. I’ll be happy to show here the potential outcome of her actions.

I can drive. I just would rather not any more. One of the last times I drove, I clipped a deer in a blizzard. The deer ran off, I hope it was OK, but I NEVER NEVER want to endanger anyone else with a car ever again. I would make an exception for this female sub-dog, however.

Pavement is used in many countries for the place where pedestrians walk. Sidewalk is an American term

      • FourFooted_Messiah

Thank you. But then, what is the term for paved strips on which cars are allowed to run? Are they simply just “Roads” then?

I’ve lived in too many small places with lack of paved anything, I guess.

        • Terry

Roads I suppose. South Africa always uses the term pavement for sidewalk following Britain, but I see New Zealand uses sidewalk. I have got used to both terms.

          • FourFooted_Messiah

Thank you again. But I do hope that some will take my road safety advice to heart, as I was both a professional driver and a professional hitch-hiker.

          • Pat

I believe that centuries ago ‘sidewalk’ was used in England. As we became less rural and the walk ways were ‘paved’, the word ‘pavement’ became the norm.

I live in this area and this story got a lot of local coverage. She was driving on the sidewalk, She is some sort of AA govt hire. She showed no remorse at all in any way. She talked and texted the first day(2 hours?) the next day the judge had her phone taken away. She is a completely self-absorbed a-hole who was totally unaffected by this punishment. Some people should just be put out of OUR misery. what a pathetic excuse for a human she is.

  • Puggg

With all due apologies to this judge, we didn’t need her to carry this sign. We could have implied the “idiot” part just by looking at her.

    • StillModerated

      dog whistle!

  • MekongDelta69

    Gee – a whole hour.

She could have killed or injured a whole bunch of kids and she gets one lousy hour of punishment.
    What a hardship…

  • Rational Being

The sign itself does not identify that the person in question committed the act. Anyone not familiar with her case could conclude that she was protesting someone else’s transgression. However, perhaps we here are wiser than that.
As a society, we have become inured to anti-social behavior. Certain people take pride in caring about themselves alone no matter what the risk is to others. Such an attitude clearly shows in failed societies all around the world, where certain groups almost invariably find themselves fighting one another to the point of violence regardless of the imperatives of a well-ordered society. Those who do not realize that certain cultural and other groups are sociopathic are unaware of the lessons of history and blind to the realities of geography and the quality of national populations.
Take a random sample of a thousand whites from Europe and settle them on an isolated island with only a few resources. Soon you are likely to have a functioning society of sorts. Take an equivalent sample of a thousand Africans and do the same, and you have much less of a chance at civilization and a vastly greater probability of dysfunction and ultimately violence. Different racial groups have difference proclivities and abilities. It is irrational to deny this.

  • IstvanIN

    Why isn’t she in jail?

    • MekongDelta69

Because she’s a ‘proud and in yo’ face’ [sic] black woman.
      That’s why.

US school buses have flashing red lights that turn on and miniature stop signs that flip out when they halt to let children out. These are meant to stop road traffic in both directions so the little ones can cross safely to walk the rest of their way home. Children aren’t always careful, and don’t always look both ways because (you guessed it) they’re children.

These have the full legal authority of permanent stop signs. In Colorado, I think it is a $200 fine to run a stop sign. I’m not certain, because I never did that.

They really ought to have charged her with “reckless endangerment” for driving her car on the sidewalk, and thrown enough moving violation charges at her so her DL would be gone for a year, just to see how big a hurry she’d be in next time she was allowed to drive anywhere.

    • Puggg

Are those outward flinging front metallic rods that extend away from the front in a 90 degree angle from the front of the bus when the driver opens the door a universal fixture? Those were installed after kids walked too close to the bus in front of the bus trying to cross the street, and they weren’t in the driver’s view, and the driver proceeded to drive on and drove over the kids. The swinging arm is to get them to walk far enough away from the front of the bus so that they’re in the driver’s field of front view.

      • FourFooted_Messiah

Good question, the ones I’ve seen are simply at a 90 degree angle – but yeah, kids crossing right in front of the bus might not be visible to the driver, expecially if s/he does not stand up to take a look down in front of the nose of the bus.

Keep in mind that we are also invisible to truckers if we follow them too close behind. Never mind coasting in their jetstream; they can’t see you there.

      • The__Bobster

No. And I didn’t see one stopping this Bantu’s car.

  • William Allingham

at least someone realizes that black people dont react equally to social pressures as whites, they need discipline and tough hand because being condescending sends the signal “I dont care what you do” and of course blacks being so narcissistic and dependent that is an insult and a menace to their irresponsible lifestyle.

  • Biff_Maliboo

    A 21st Century Rosa Parks!

  • DudeWheresMyCountry?

An American woman? Please call her by her preferred distinction, African-American. She prefers it, we prefer it. I and many like-minded “Americans” have no connection, bond or affiliation with her in any way… other than Washington DC says we are “the same” in every way. Nothing could be further from reality.

Nonetheless, my fellow “true” British brothers and sisters (not the Paki squatters) I do apologize for the primitive behavior of this “American”, I mean African born in America.

    • Michael_C_Scott

I just call them “Africans” when I’m being polite.

  • From the article : ” Lisa Kelley, whose nine-year-old daughter uses the bus, said: “She’s an
idiot, just like her sign says. She did this almost every day last year. ”

She should be stripped of her license and car permanently ! She’s an on-going menace to kids on school buses and it shouldn’t take their deaths or injuries to stop this reprobate !

She can use public transportation to get around…

    • The__Bobster

Do you really want this selfish sow on your bus?

      • FourFooted_Messiah

She has feet. Let her walk.

Of course, it would be nice if she got run over by someone like her as she debarked a city bus ….

        • I agree about walking, driving IS a privilege, not a right…

It would be ironic justice for her to be run over as she debarks a bus, especially if she’s on a sidewalk…

      • Come to think of it…No…

The buses are already full of people like her…

  • JackKrak

When you have you EVER seen a black express anything resembling guilt or remorse over their behavior? On top of that, any attempt to enforce discipline or consequences on them gives them a welcome chance to show their defiance of whitey’s rules and expectations.

    • Bill

As often as not, they express remorse at just before their sentencing. But they don’t mean it at all. It’s just a ploy to get a lighter sentence, on instructions of their lawyer. If blacks took their behavior and reputations seriously the entire black community would be all over her butt, but they identify with “refusing to follow the white man’s laws” as that would feel like slavery to them. They are beyond redemption.

  • cecilhenry

what happened to fines, community service and Jail???

    • StillModerated

What happened to thrashings, the pillory, the stocks and branding. This moo should have a “I” burned into her cheek.

  • Flytrap

The word for the day, boys and girls, is “sociopath.”

    • IstvanIN

Sociopath or African? Judging them by our standards is like expecting your cat to have the same morals you do.

      • Flytrap

  • I think it’s an insult to idiots. An idiot can’t help being an idiot. His mental condition was not by choice. She, however, made a conscious choice to endanger others.

  • StillModerated

Sorry Daily Telegraph, Cleveland Ohio ain’t America. It’s AmeriKwa!

  • Rebelcelt

Most blacks have this same attitude towards rules. They just do not have any respect for others. Black women are the worse, especially if there are whites around. They break the rules just to see if they can get away with it ( ie. if the white in charge is strong enough to challenge them.
But, then call you a racists when you say something. But really a whole hour? How about 8 hours a day for two weeks. That would wipe the smirk off her face.

    • Katherine McChesney

I read an article by a black man who said black men generally don’t go to churches because they are run by black women. He said this is the reason so many black men join gangs and NOI because women are required to play a secondary role and aren’t allowed to dominate men. What a messed up society they have. No wonder they don’t succeed at anything.

      • Flossie

There’s a good deal of truth in what that black author wrote, and it holds true for whites as well. As the various Christian denominations have become increasingly feminized, men have been steering clear in ever-greater numbers. Men simply won’t participate in religion if it’s run by and for women. Heck, just look at Islam: it’s the boys’ own religion and going gangbusters.

  • Collective punishment is in order for these sub-human simians. Each time an act like this occurs, 500 blacks should loose their licenses to drive. Anyone caught after loosing it’s license shall be sentenced to 25 years hard labor.

  • Annis

Its like black football players caught up in the Pay for Pain scandal. Black NFL players cannot seem to appreciate the efforts to protect players from head injuries and continually get fined for using the helmet on defenseless receivers.

In the recent game between the Lions and the Texans, Suh, a black player, kicked quarterback Matt Schaub in the groin and got suspended. He’s considered to be the dirtiest player in the NFL. I guess the mindless “who cares its not big deal attitude” is just a black thing. They don’t care for our cultural ways whether its using common sense to protect innocent little children or 300 pound football players.

After all, if they can’t feed their kids in Africa, they simply allow them to starve. Africa is truly a balance of nature. But in America we have a massive program of dumbing down the black race by giving EBT cards to double digit IQ Baby Mamas, prone to violence, so they can flood the country with double digit IQ children prone to violence. Its a Marxist thing.

  • They should have tattooed the word in white ink on it’s forehead

  • i am

“… she laughed at every court appearance. She’s still laughing,…”

All blacks laugh when they are caught ding something wrong. They think it is a joke. I think she would have had more remorse if they took away her EBT card.

    • gemjunior

Now you’re talking. That would be far more punitive. It would really be relevant to someone like her. These people take all their “benefits” (courtesy of whitey) for granted. They think it’s magic – don’t have any idea how some hardworking person has been filched of 1/3 — 1/2 their earnings and just handed over to sloths like her. IMO it’s a universal truth that if a person never works or has never worked, they will never understand the value of money because they can’t connect the two. Or understand the concept of earning. When we intend to make someone learn from a mistake, we take away a right or a privilege. It takes a bit of leeway when comparing an adult woman with a pre-teen but it’s likely that their IQs are somewhat similar. However, having her stand around and wave at or flip the bird at people honking is not a punishment, it’s a spectacle. She can have some of her friends come and threaten people for all we know. Taking away her government benefits (and food stamps and section 8 and WIC and Lord knows what other things we don’t even know they get) and we know she’ll feel it far more than this silly sentence. What’s wrong with the judge? It’s not even particularly stating that SHE is that actual idiot. That would be a tremendous blow to her horribly low self-esteem, and we can’t have a black person with low self-esteem. They already have that, and it’s the fault of whites for making the blacks feel unworthy because they aren’t white and have never accomplished anything. It’s our fault. How can we atone?

      • BAW

“Taking away her government benefits (and food stamps and section 8 and
WIC and Lord knows what other things we don’t even know they get) and we
know she’ll feel it far more than this silly sentence.”

Perhaps that punishment would do more to keep people like this from causing trouble than building a million prisons.

  • [Guest]

As is usually the case, the problem is not really the black, who is behaving in the expected way. The problem is that a society founded and built up by white people refuses to deal with black foolishness.

The first time I heard of this kind of “creative” sentencing, it involved a black miscreant. Such sentences make a mockery of a justice system that has worked well for white people for a very long time. In that sense, this incident is yet another in a very long line of victories for the undertow.

  • Sloppo

That kind of punishment doesn’t work at all on life forms which have fully accepted their “idiot” status. For some reason, this news story reminds me of this song.

  • Pat Kittle

Scuse me for asking the obvious, but why wasn’t her driver’s license confiscated?

And her car, if she still thought it was funny?
