A prominent evangelist is threatening to sue the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) after it labeled his Internet-based ministry a “hate group.”

According to a press release, Bill Keller—deemed “the world’s leading Internet evangelist” and the founder of LivePrayer.com—is planning a $100 million defamation lawsuit against the SPLC.

“The sad shooting the other day at the Family Research Council by a man who supports the radical homosexual agenda, was clearly fueled by the left wing group, the Southern Poverty Law Center,” Keller is quoted by Think Progress as saying. “I receive at least 4-5 death threats a month for taking a Biblical stand on issues like homosexuality, the false religion of Islam and other cults, and the fact life begins at conception and choosing to end that life is nothing more than legalized infanticide.”

He continued, “Groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center give license to individuals who oppose a Biblical worldview to take whatever actions they deem fit, even acts of violence, to silence those they disagree with. Sadly, this intimidation has worked, because there are very few like myself who are willing to go into the mainstream media and promote Biblical truth that a large percentage of society now rejects.”

Keller’s nod to the Family Research Council (FRC) is particularly appropriate given that the organization’s similar designation as a “hate group” has been the subject of recent debate, following this week’s shooting of a security guard at the FRC’s Washington, D.C.-based headquarters. {snip}

  • Rocky Bass,

Freedom of religion is NOT for Christians darn it!

    • B

Since when does freedom of religion = freedom to oppress? What the Christian fundies think about gays is their own business and absolutely irrelevant, their desire to deny them the right to marry is not. Lets attempt to ban Christians from getting married and see if Bill Keller sees that as hate.

      • ncpride

The fact of the matter is, when put to vote by the people, same sex marriage was voted down every single time by the PEOPLE of that state, and I seriously doubt they were all conservative Christians.

      •  No one wants to ban gays from getting married.  We just don’t want them to call something that isn’t marriage, marriage.  Also, we don’t want to call the Muslim practice of taking multiple wives and divorcing them freely marriage either.

Marriage has certain legal and economic accoutrements that come from certain decisions people have made to facilitate this institution.  Pretty much everyone supports hospital visitation rights for registered gay couples.  But giving tax benefits to gay couples who already have two incomes and will never have children?  Those tax benefits were originally to help a man support a wife and children.

Nevertheless, this is a debate that we should have.  The voters have fairly consistently rejected your proposal, but not overwhelmingly.  Make your case that gay couples need all of the rights and benefits that husband and wife have.

Thing is, you know all of this.  You’re throwing words like hate and emotional appeals about equality around to try to demonize your opposition.  But you’re not going to win at that game any more, because we don’t have to debate through the same respectable mass media channels any more.

  • haroldcrews

Poetic justice if they should win.

  • bubo

I applaud them but they will never win.  The SPLC and it’s backers are firmly in control of the courts.

  • I have been saying this for years.

We must use the same tactics that have been used against conservative values for years.

    Fill the courts will lawsuits.

There is a reason the $PLC (SPLC) money is harbored offshore. They knew this day would come.

    • You mean Mitt Romney is not the only “rich guy” who parks money overseas?! Jeezel Pete, I thought only conservative Republicans did that!

  • Global Minority

I like the idea of turning the tables, I’m glad they are suing. However, I don’t think they have a chance in hades that they will win becasue of the laws the way they are written and the law is squarely on the side of hate groups like the SPLC. And it does not matter if the Republicans are in control of Senate, the house and the White House. Both paries are anit-white, period.

  • B

I’m no fan at all of the SPLC but if your agenda is to deny gays the right to marry then you qualify as a hate group in my opinion. They like to spin their hate as “support for traditional marriage” but opposing gay marriage in no way shape or form affects heterosexual marriage or supports it in any way. What do they think, deny gays the right to marry and they will become straight and get married? If this amoral god hustler was sincere about supporting heterosexual marriage he would spend his money not on attorneys but on a marriage therapy center for all the fundamental christians engaging in adultery for that is their biggest threat to heterosexual marriage, not gay people.

    • The__Bobster

Where does it say that colon cowboys have the “right” to marry and that if you don’t support this perversity, you are a “hater”?

It seems there is plenty of hate coming from your direction.

      • B

The bottom line here is there is not a single practical reason to oppose gay marriage. It has zero impact on any heterosexual’s abiltiy to get married so to oppose somehting that has no impact on you is both irrational and intolerant. Disapprove of gays all you want it’s a free country to think as you see fit, just as I can as an atheist look at religion as mindless dishonest dogma used by people who are unwilling to face life and their mortality honestly. The difference,  I’m not in favor of controlling what Christians can or can not do like the insecure Christians are towards gays and on a host of other issues. So how many of you would consider it hate if I had a website like Bill Keller and was promoting  the position that all Christians are immoral and should not be allowed to get married? Clearly this is prejudiced hate coming from Bill Keller and him claiming some stale bronze age book of religious dogma agrees with him doesn’t change that fact one bit.

Isn’t it amazing how the people prejudiced towards gays suddenly see the light when they learn the daughter or son they love dearly is homosexual?

        “Great spirits have always
encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand
it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but
honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.”–
        Albert Einstein

        • Anonymous

          Sure there is.

I’m not Christian nor religious in any sense. I’m spiritual and used to be atheist and Buddhist. I’m believe in Darwinism and evolution.

There is nothing more irrational then grouping everyone’s argument against homosexual marriage to be irrational without understanding the multiple viewpoints therein.

“Isn’t it amazing how the people prejudiced towards gays suddenly see the light when they learn the daughter or son they love dearly is homosexual?”

A completely irrational statement. First off, one’s opinion shouldn’t be motivated by whether their daughter is or is not gay/came out of the closet. Objectivity should be our goal, not changes out of convenience.

If I had a daughter who turned out to lesbian. I would love her regardless because she is my kin. However, that wouldn’t affect my opinion of homosexuality. Just like if I found out my daughter was a pedophile (note this is an example not meant to equal homosexuality to pedophilia). You are more similar to people then you know.

My other responses below addresses your whole “I’m not intolerant to Christian” belief.

  • SPLC was founded by white lawyers (Morris Seligman Dees and Joseph J. Levin jr.)  and it’s president is another white lawyer J. Richard Cohen. The staff is rife with white liberal lawyers who are (shall we say) non-christian and with a few tokens thrown in for diversity. I always thought it was run by and for blacks. What a shocker.

These liberal shyster lawyers will do anything that stirs the pot, divides us and makes us fight in court.

I would love to see them bankcrupted as they have done to so many others.

    • Please don’t refer to these people as “white.” I just ate. They are in no way white. They may look white, but it’s like calling an albino negro “white.” Here is a photo of an albino negro so you can judge for yourself:

      http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-rB9CUMsQwk/SgJV0OU2x2I/AAAAAAAAAlc/QeThkv0KFks/s400/albino4.jpg

I’m sure you’re a perfectly wonderful person, so I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but I have to lie down after reading your post.

      • Maximillian Heidenreich

Thank you, Darryl for clarifying that Jews are not white. Jews are not and never have been part of the white race. That people don’t know this, especially here, is astounding.

        • Tim_in_Indiana

According to the great Charleton Putnam, Jews are a substock of the white race. Therefore, they are white. You may not like Jews, and that is your right, but the fact remains that they are a substock of the white race. I agree with Putnam that the focus on Jews is a distraction. We need to focus less on them and more on why the great body of whites are so lemming-like in jumping off the cliff. And the idea of comparing them to albinos is stupid, inflammatory and absurd. That comparison is the sign of ignorance. By the way, the image enlarged into a laughing dog…Snidely or Snagglepus, or whatever his name is, if I can remember as far back as my Saturday morning cartoon-watching days.

          • We are forbidden from discussing the “tribe” here, but there is 1 point I want to make.

Jews see “muliticulturalism” and “diversity” as weapons against anti-semitism. They are purposely diluting White countries for their own “protection”.

          • I’m not an anti-Semite.

The rank and file Jews are just everyday people. Zionists have a sinister plan for world domination, but so does everyone else. Islam is a plan for world domination. Nazism is a plan for world domination. Japan and China have plans for world domination. Blacks even have a plan for world domination, NOI.

I’m not saying they are doing anything deliberately. Perhaps it is just a meme within their culture/faith/tribe. Jews gravitate to positions of power through merit, IQ or connections. In these positions they “instinctively” favor multiculturalism and liberal-socialist ideas. They also have Nazi paranoia drilled into their heads by their parents and grand-parents. Similar to young blacks today having KKK paranoia drilled into them even though they’ve never seen a Klansman.

White people have our our destructive cultural/tribal memes, like pathological altruism and White guilt complex.

          • Substock of the White race?????!! Negative my friend. They are not, nor have they ever been. We are apples and oranges. It is not a distraction to discuss them, in fact, to ignore them is peril. It is no coincidence that you can rattle off the names of the foulest creatures to infect this once-great nation, rattle off the names of the greatest enemies to our race, and we know what those names will be. Hollywood, politics, economy, porn etc. Oy Vey it’s a bar mitzvah! I would no more compare them to myself than I would compare an albino negro to myself. My comparison is valid and I stand firmly by it. I call a spade a spade.

          • Okay..but that’s the problem with the so called “white race”. We are already incredibly diverse. Look at all our variations and physical differences around the world. A tall  blonde, light skinned, blue-eyed Swede will find a short, brunette, dark-skinned, brown-eyed Italian incredibly different and yet they are both white. We see too many tribes within our white catergory. Blacks only see blacks whenit comes time to join together. They share a bond even if they are only 1/4 black.

We have to recognize the enemy for who they are and for who they aren’t. Non-Christians just don’t bring the values to the table that our forefathers brought with them, This is not a Judeo-Christian society, it is a Christian based society. The Judeo part has some different values. We don’t need to focus less on that fact just because we share some common pigment.

    • BaronBaal

It’s a dangerous game you’re playing when you think these people are white, Luca. They are NOT white and they are VERY different from you and me.

  • Note to Rev. Keller: Don’t “threaten to sue” the Southern Poverty Law Center; SUE the Southern Poverty Law Center. They’ve deserved it, in spades, for years. I sincerely hope you will follow through with your threat, and soon.

Every organization that they’ve branded as a “hate group” over those years, should join you in your lawsuit. Make it class-action. Litigate the pants off these elitist, smart-aleck lawyers who make up most of the SPLC.

The busier they are fighting lawsuits, and having to spend money to do so, the less time and money they’ll have, to defame anyone they want to on the Right side of the political spectrum.

    • B

Keller better watch out for the hunter might just get captured by the game here. If the quote in the article is accurate and Keller said what was quoted –  “The sad shooting the other day at the Family Research Council by a man who supports the radical homosexual agenda, was clearly fueled by the left wing group, the Southern Poverty Law Center,”  he may be the one defending himself from slander if he can not prove that was “clearly” the case. Is there a record of this shooter mentioning SPLC? If not, he may be the guilty one when it comes to slander.

  • RHG

Good, it’s about time this slanderous, race-hustling organization got some of it’s own medicine.

  • Apologies to all for my oversight. maybe I should have said non-black. I thought if I said jew I would be censored.

    • I figured that was what you meant. You’d be surprised how many people lump them in with us.  Take funnyman Jon Stewart  for example-that plucky Irishman! I’m just kidding… Jonathon Leibowitz. A people so despised every where they go, they actually have to change their names!

  • s shadow

I wonder if Liveprayer will quietly disappear from the hate list.

  • B

You obviously call everybody who disagrees with you a liberal. Sorry to burst your bubble there Frank but just because I think fighting to deny gays the rights to marry is wrong does not in any way make me a liberal. The religious right does not have a monopoly on the word conservative either. The worst thing the republican party ever did was make a pact with these religious fundies for it will be the downfall of the party.

    • Dan Reardon

It’s always been my understanding that marriage was created to benefit children. Homosexuals can not naturally produce children. I know if my wife and I were killed in a car accident I certainly wouldn’t want my children being given to a couple of pickle puffers or two man hating dykes. But that’s what this door opens.

Additionally, is the marriage partner, who plays the unemployed feminine role, going to be entitled to “it’s” partners social security benefits if they divorce or one dies? This will be another undue burden on our already bankrupt S.S. benefits.

The gays have been accepted long ago. This isn’t about acceptance this is about throwing your weight around and getting in the face of mainstream Americans. They have taken a page from the “angry Black” playbook and made it their own.

  • B

Your disingenuous argument is much better suited towards people like Bill Keller who want to control others by fighting to deny gay marriage, stem cell research,
abortion, doctor assisted suicide and so forth. The Christian fundies are insecure control freaks and if you weren’t blinded by your own prejudice you would understand that.

  • Dan Reardon

Now that’s a cause I would gladly donate to.

  • B

So discriminating against gays will prevent the downfall of Western civilization? Schmens swallowed the god husters fear mongering and bigotry hook line and sinker! The fact is that religion and the intolerance it breeds is responsible for far more misery in the world than anything else. The only perversion here is your lack of understanding.

  • B

You post is laughable. If your argument was that you were against abortions being performed in churches I would agree with you 100
percent. You are also free to spread your dogma outside of public property. There should no more be a Christmas tree on public lands then there should be a sign claiming god is just a silly superstition. You can not accept or even comprehend the valid reasons for a separation of church and state so no point wasting any more time with you.

  • B

I agree all hate crime laws are absurd.

  • B

Fr. John+, have you told all of your heterosexual friends not to engage in sodomy or oral sex? Maybe you should just hate everybody because you never know what your straight friends might be doing in their bedrooms! Maybe you need to find out why you are so insecure and concerned at all about what other consenting adults do in their sex lives.

[Thanks, AR. Guess what I ran into on the amazing web. This.]

           Hatred Behind the DC Shooting

         If something is
unnatural or anti-American or anti-Christian, the Southern Poverty Law
Center is drawn to it like flies to something smelly. Which is why the
SPLC hates the Family Research Council which is pro-traditional family,
    pro-America, and pro-Christ.
         After the shooting at FRC
headquarters, which could have been a massacre, FRC president Tony
Perkins stated that the SPLC has “been reckless in labeling
organizations hate groups because they disagree with them on public
    policy.”
The SPLC calls the FRC a “hate” group because it follows Christ who said to His followers “Love your enemies” (Matt. 5:44).

By way of contrast, heavily Jewish SPLC follows the ages-old Talmud
which HATES science, females, children (homosexual sex with children is
okay!), all Gentiles, Jesus (who was born a “bastard” – Jewish
Encyclopedia), and all Christians! For sources Google or Yahoo “The
Earliest Hate Criminals,” “The Talmud and double standards” (July 3,
    2012), and “Talmud” (Wikipedia).
         Be sure to Google “Zionist
Watch” (5/26/2007) which called SPLC founder Morris Dees “a Jewish
    radical leftist pervert…sexual deviant…flagrant adulterer…[and]
alleged child molester,” also Google “The Anti-Chick-fil-A Jihad” and
    “Mikey Weinstein, Jesus-Basher.”
As you can tell, the SPLC (which is chummy with fellow schmucks including the ADL and ACLU) is a “love” group!

BTW, the one five-letter name starting with “J” that SPLC etc. hate
(no, not James or Julia) warned in Matt. 24:9 that in the end times “ye
shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.” (I wonder how soon
the SPLC will work for the banning of the Bible, the one book that
America’s greatest leaders highly exalted – Google “Dangerous Radicals
    of the Religious Right.”)
While the SPLC and think-alikes are
busy back-stabbing evangelicals (viewed as Israel’s best friends), the
same schmucks are creating a huge backlash that will bring about the
predicted end-time slaughter of two-thirds of Jewry and Jerusalem’s
devastation (Zech. 13 & 14). By doing all it can to help fulfill the
Bible’s predictions, the pervs at the you-know-what are actually making
    the Bible even more believable!
