Swiss Olympic Expels Player for Racist Tweet

Swiss Info, July 30, 2012

Swiss footballer Michel Morganella has been expelled from the London Olympics for posting a racist message on social networking website Twitter.

Swiss Olympic team chief Gian Gilli said Morganella was being stripped of his Olympic accreditation ahead of Switzerland’s final group match against Mexico on Wednesday.

He “discriminated against, insulted and violated the dignity of the South Korea football team as well as the South Korean people”, Gill said through a translator at a news conference on Monday.

Morganella, a defender for Italian club Palermo, posted an offensive and threatening message aimed at South Korean people after Switzerland lost 2-1 to South Korea on Sunday.

Swiss daily Le Matin published images of a tweet from his account, which has since been deleted.

“I’m going to beat up every Korean—they can all go burn. Bunch of mongoloids [trisos—a pejorative French term for people with Down’s syndrome].”

Apology

The 23-year-old player later released a contrite statement through Swiss Olympic.

“I apologise sincerely to the people of South Korea, to the players, but equally to the Swiss delegation and Swiss football in general. It’s clear that I’m accepting the consequences.”

“After the disappointing result and the reaction from Korea that followed, I made a huge error,” Morganella added.

Gilli said the player had been “provoked” by comments sent to his Twitter account after the match.

Still, the Swiss team leader acknowledged that Morganella had to be sent home under the terms of the International Olympic Committee’s code of conduct, which requires athletes to show mutual respect.

“In this case, we felt we have no alternative,” Gilli said.

Social media guidelines

Morganella is the second Olympic athlete to be kicked off a team for offensive Twitter comments.

Greece dropped triple jumper Voula Papachristou last week after she posted a comment mocking African immigrants.

The IOC has encouraged the 10,800 athletes at the London Games to communicate with fans through social media, but it issued guidelines on the standards of behaviour it expected.

Switzerland has yet to win a medal at the 2012 Olympic Games.

  • Let this be a lesson to ya, lad.  Never use your real name on social networking.

    • The__Bobster

I never do. To do so is very foolish in today’s environment.

      • Rocky Bass,

I think we all should, that’s how change can happen.

    • In for a penny, in for a pound. The DHS can kick in my door any day. All they will find is an under-employed, disgruntled man in his late 20’s with a bunch of legal guns.

IIRC anonymity is impossible on Facebook or Twitter, which is once reason I avoid them like the plague. (Another reason is total lack of interest.)

That would seem to create a huge potential market for some racially aware entrepreneur. Create a social network where privacy and anonymity are guaranteed and like-minded whites would sign on in droves.

      • Anonymity is possible on Twitter.  For those of you who use it, try to see if you can glean my real name or any apparent name for me on my Twitter account, http://twitter.com/countenanceblog

It is practically impossible on Facebook, unless you totally operate under a pen name.

We don’t feel sorry for her.  Any Whitey girl, especially a good looking one, who forgets that blacks are protected sacred idols should suffer for her “racist” sins.

  • Emotion-driven, jingoistic ejaculations are something that’s natural and human when you stoke up sporting rivalries between nations.  But, as usual, in this upside down universe that we’re living in: a) what is natural in this world is the only thing that is unpardonable, b)meanwhile, unnatural conduct is normalized and even put on a pedestal.

    Once again…

    TRUTH = ‘racial insensitivity”

    • Sloppo

Normally I would agree with that sort of statement, but the swiss soccer player’s statements about Koreans appear to be factually incorrect.  The Greek girl’s offensive statement was accurate though.  Neither of them should be expelled in my opinion, because saying stupid or silly things does not give an athlete an unfair competitive advantage.  The expulsions are starting to make the Olympic games into a politically correct contest a bit like the Miss PC America competition.

Greek girl = dark hybrid white = sin = impure

        • Sloppo

          You = silly

Let me guess – you’re a Greek man? … do you like movies about gladiators?

        • mikejones91

She has blonde hair. She is tan because Greece gets a lot of sun. Burn your bible. Shes white enough for me.

  • mikejones91

Can someone please tell me what she said?

  • IstvanIN

But a Colombian Mestiza can slug an American soccer player and that is OK!  Then a black Cuban bit a Greek in some sort of martial arts contest, but that is OK, too.  But the American and Greek girls were white so, no harm, no foul.

  • frank pucillo

I wonder if in in four years and they threw an olympics and nobody came. So many of the gtradiutions of the Olympics have been changed that to me it just another sporting event not worth bothering with.

  • Church_of_Jed

All non whites are protected sacred idols. White are only allowed to talk about them when we are praising them and committing to “doing more” to advance them into transformational Diversity leadership positions above us.   Whites must be ruled by Diversity, that’s all there is to it.

  • The__Bobster

As long as only a handful of us do this and then grovel, the oppression will continue.

Millions of us need to make racist posts and then tell TPTB to shove it. They’re only winning right now because they can pick us off one by one.

    • Rocky Bass,

I am self employed and damned if I can think of one customer that does not think EXACTLY the same as me or most here.

Put down the masks guys. Confront CONFRONT CoNfRoNt!!!!

    • Diamond_Lil

I’m with you Bobster.  I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been called a racist.   It only gives me more incentive.

“I’m going to beat up every Korean – they can all go burn. Bunch of
mongoloids [trisos – a pejorative French term for people with Down’s
    syndrome].”

So?  Do you really think he could or would beat up every South Korean? Bravado that in a pre-Twitter age would have gone unnoticed in the locker room among his fellow players.

  • Racism has its downsides, but so does nationalism.  Not long ago, all nationalism was an expression of racism since virtually all nations were homogeneous.   Bug nationalism and racism should be treated similarly since they can both lead to war, cruelty and genocide.  Yet this evenhanded view is not acceptable in the new, politically-correct, multi-racial USofA.

Actually, hyper-nationalism should be treated exactly like hyper-racial-pride; and hatred directed at one country from another should be seen in the same light as hatred directed from one race towards another.   What’s caused it?  Who’s to blame?  What should be done about it?

Instead, Americans are inculcated to be hyper-nationalistic but trained to be averse to racial pride unless they belong to a protected minority group.  Then ethnic pride is perfectly OK.  But racial pride in America remains taboo for white people.

Oddly, there are many civilized countries (Finland, Japan, China) which remain quite homogeneous and are very civilized.  And they’re certainly not interested in importing any Aficans so they can become more ‘diverse’.   In fact, I’m sure the people in these countries would never dream of anything so silly.   They know a bad idea when they see it.

Here in racially-sensitive America, we’re constantly at war (organized killing) but very worried about speech crimes.   More absurdity.

We Americans are being taught to live a lie.

  • The asians may be our saviors. In particular The chinese don’t care for the “Blank slate” hogwash, so popular in the west. BGI, Beijing genomics institute is now identifying the genes for intelligence.

  • Before a swiss player posted a comment to twitter, his facebook went up in flames by numerous Korean users because they got angry with yellow card was given a Korean player due to a Swiss player’s play in match of Swiss vs Korea.By the way Korean often say “we never forget this bitterness forever” They have national characteristics never do it when get angry for better or worse.I suppose a swiss player was so nervous suffering from Korean’s attack, thus I suppose it is not a problem about racism but one trouble between a swiss player and Korean people.Sure I think what he mentioned can not be forgiven.Furthermore Japanese forget quickly racism but to mind, but Chinese and Korean ignore it from the beginning that they believe their nation is as NO1 all over the world like American.
