Black Lawmakers Call Gun Rights Sign Racist

Black lawmakers are demanding a police investigation of a banner held at Tuesday’s run rights rally in the state Capitol.
The banner called for Rep. Angel Cruz, a lawmaker of Puerto Rican descent, to be “hung from the tree of liberty.” Cruz has proposed a bill that would require a $10-a-gun yearly tax and force gun owners to submit a recent photograph and be fingerprinted.

“We applaud you for expressing the way you felt, but terroristic threats on a legislator who is trying to do a job and make a difference on the quality of life will be unacceptable,” Cruz said.
The head to the Legislative Black Caucus said that the sign was a threat to a colleague’s life and also an act of racism.
