Officials Get an Earful from Those Opposed To Changing City’s Name

John Gutierrez-Mier, Star-Telegram (Fort Worth), Oct. 23

WHITE SETTLEMENT — More than 100 people packed a senior citizens center Saturday afternoon, overwhelmingly telling the mayor and two City Council members that the proposal to change the city’s name is doomed.

“What have we done here that’s so shameful that we have to change our name?” asked Carla Teter during a public-comment portion.

The name is derived from the town’s history, Ouzts said. When it was established, in the 1800s, the settlement was surrounded by several American Indian tribes.
