Democrats Promote the Ferguson Lie

Robert Hampton, American Renaissance, August 15, 2019

Democrat presidential candidates are spreading fake news on the fifth-year anniversary of Michael Brown’s death.

In 2014, Officer Darren Wilson shot and killed Brown after Brown punched him, tried to wrestle away his gun, and charged at him. Just before that, Brown had committed strong-arm robbery at a convenience store. Blacks rioted. However, both the county prosecutor and Barack Obama’s Department of Justice ruled that Officer Wilson acted in justified self-defense. Several Democrat presidential candidates don’t seem to know what happened.

“5 years ago Michael Brown was murdered by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. . . . We must confront systemic racism and police violence head on,” Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren tweeted. Sen. Warren taught at Harvard Law school. She should know the difference between murder and self defense.

“Michael Brown’s murder forever changed Ferguson and America. . . . We must fight for stronger accountability and racial equity in our justice system,” California Sen. Kamala Harris tweeted. Sen. Harris is a former prosecutor.

New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand took the same line: “5 years ago, a Ferguson police officer killed Michael Brown, an unarmed teenager. . . . [W]e can’t stop fighting the injustice done to his family and so many others — and until we do better, we’re failing them.”

“Michael Brown should be alive today. Five years after his death, we must finally end police violence against people of color,” tweeted Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. The tweet included a video of a black woman tearfully claiming that her son could be murdered by police for wearing a hoodie. In the video, Sen. Sanders says he will end “institutionalized racism.”

Joe Biden got on the bandwagon. “Five years ago, Michael Brown’s life was taken in Ferguson. . . . We must ensure justice rings out for all in America — regardless of skin color.”

New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker praised the Ferguson rioters: “I am also thinking about the everyday citizens who stood against this police violence and racism and were tear gassed for their patriotic acts.” Sen. Booker seems to think looting and arson are “patriotic acts.”

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio claimed Brown was killed because he was black: “NO ONE should die due to the color of their skin.”

Surprisingly, even a few liberal journalists disputed the murder charges. Vox’s German Lopez told Sen. Warren and Sen. Harris they got it wrong. He noted that they repeated the false claims of Black Lives Matter demonstrators: “That Brown raised his hands up before Wilson shot him anyway — which gave way to the mantra of ‘hands up, don’t shoot.’” Neither campaign returned Mr. Lopez’s calls.

The Washington Post’s fact checker Glenn Kessler also criticized the senators: “Harris and Warren have ignored the findings of the Justice Department to accuse Wilson of murder even though the Justice Department found no credible evidence to support that claim.” Mr. Kessler called this “galling” and gave the duo “four Pinocchios.”

FactCheck.org declared the candidates’ murder claims “wrong.”

Don’t expect any of Democratic candidates to clarify or apologize for their statements. They want votes, and calling Darren Wilson a murderer excites blacks. Last week, Michael Brown’s father called for a new investigation into his son’s death, which shows that he doesn’t believe the DOJ report.

The Washington Post published an op-ed by Brown’s mother, Lezley McSpadden. She claimed there is “an open season on black and brown men and boys.” She demanded “radical” criminal justice reform, reduced policing, and “criminal charges for any cop who cut[s] someone down in the prime of their lives.” Did fact checker Glenn Kessler not read her article?

Maybe these Democrat candidates are just gullible. They thought Jussie Smollett was the victim of a hate crime. Whether they are ignorant or malicious, if elected, they are likely to ignore facts and make policy to appease blacks.
