In July, former South African President Jacob Zuma began a 15-month prison sentence for contempt of court. His supporters protested, and soon began rioting, looting, and causing immense destruction. The chaos is largely ended, but the costs included 337 deaths, 3,407 arrests, and billions of rands of damage. Here are images of the chaos.
Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni said that “Over 100 malls were burnt or had significant fire damage.”
