Belgian Police Foil Jihadist Plot Involving Drone-Mounted Explosives

European Conservative, October 9, 2025

Belgian police have arrested three young adults in Antwerp on suspicion of planning a jihadist-inspired terrorist attack, reportedly targeting top political figures including Prime Minister Bart De Wever.

Federal prosecutor Ann Fransen said the suspects were detained as part of an investigation into “attempted terrorist murder and participation in the activities of a terrorist group.” Evidence suggests the group intended to carry out an attack using a drone capable of carrying explosives.

“Certain elements indicate that the suspects intended to carry out a jihadist-inspired terrorist attack against political figures,” Fransen told reporters, adding that investigators found plans to construct an armed drone.

Belgium’s foreign minister, Maxime Prevot, called the news “deeply shocking,” and said “It reminds us that the terrorist threat remains real and that we must remain vigilant.”

Authorities have not officially confirmed the alleged targets, but Flemish media reported that De Wever—who previously served as Antwerp’s mayor—was among them. The investigation remains ongoing.
