Immigrant Groups Sue Holder over Deportations

Benjamin Goad, The Hill, August 1, 2014

A coalition of immigrant rights groups is suing the government to halt deportation proceedings for children that crossed the Southwest border after fleeing violence in their native El Salvador and Guatemala.

Half a dozen children are listed as plaintiffs in the federal lawsuit naming Attorney General Eric Holder, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, and Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell as defendants.

The lawsuit seeks to block deportation of just those children, unless the government can ensure adequate legal representation. However, the American Civil Liberties Union, American Immigration Council and other groups involved have also filed a lawsuit on behalf of thousands of children alleging the government has neglected to provide them with lawyers for their deportation hearings.

“These children face an imminent threat of being deported, potentially to their death,” said Ahilan Arulanantham, a senior staff attorney with the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project. “To force them to defend themselves against a trained prosecutor, with their lives literally on the line, violates due process and runs counter to everything our country stands for.”

“Many children are eligible to remain in the United States, but may be ordered deported simply because they do not understand our complex immigration laws and how to prove their claims,” said Beth Werlin, deputy legal director of the American Immigration Council.

What they do not realize is that even if the “deportation” proceedings occurred in their normal process, the odds that they would result in an actual deportation are pretty low.

I remember the ACLU came to national prominence as a result of defending the Nazis’ march on Skokie.

It was nothing but a publicity stunt to create a sense that these people were objective defenders of civil rights. Heck, they even rushed out a made-for-TV movie showing how objectively noble the ACLU was.

    Pure propaganda.

    • WR_the_realist

Yup. The ACLU did that Skokie thing as a stunt so that they could forever more point to it as “proof” that they are nonpartisan and apolitical, just objective defenders of the Bill of Rights. The hell they are. They’re to the left of Karl Marx.

So, is no one going to go after the Affirmative Action career of Ahilan Arulanantham?

What you don’t think he got to Yale and Oxford on his own merits? LMAO!

Who is the ACLU kidding? Holder isn’t deporting anyone.

Still, nice fertile conditions for another shakedown.

WHERE are the lawsuits to PROTECT OUR rights to be protected from diseased, unwashed and dangerous illegals that shouldn’t be here in the first place?

This vermin has more rights than citizens……time to practice Civil Disobedience or….get used to the fact that illegals WILL have the edge and advantages over YOU and YOUR FAMILY.

  • WR_the_realist

How many of those kinds are actually fleeing violence? One in a thousand, maybe? The reality is that they were put on the train for the free bennies they get once they’re here.

  • WR_the_realist

Illegal immigrants either walk across the border for free or at worst pay a few thousand bucks to a coyote. Then, according to the ACLU and all other liberals, we must pay lawyers and judges $50,000 for the hearings to deport each one. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see who’s going to win this asymmetrical warfare.

Our government is broke as they will continue to abuse the tax monies.

Where is it on our constitution that you have to have legal representation when you come here illegally, you should be subject to a quick and humane expulsion from this country.

  • none of your business

Ahilan Arulanantham, an old American family no doubt. The leader of the Nazi party of the Skokie march turned out to be a Jew. Obviously a plant by ADL AJC etc to increase donations from gullible Jews who will believe anything as long as the opposition is labeled nazi, fundamentalist christian, inquisition, holocaust, or White.

No lawyer yet counselled them to lie or manipulate the system using certain code words for refugee status. Most illegals who came to join relatives or for higher wages do not meet the refugee status requirements.
