Jill Reilly, Daily Mail (London), January 3, 2012

Tracy Browning, of Louisville, KY, attempted to buy two iPads at Walmart with her Electronic Benefit Transfer card.

But when the transaction failed she allegedly assaulted a store clerk and ran from the Valley Station Walmart with the gadgets.

Police say Browning went to another Walmart in the area a short time later and again attempted to buy several iPads again with the card,, reported Whas11.com.

She was stopped at the scene while allegedly attempting to flee with the iPads.

Browning, according to police, has been banned from all Walmart stores due to previous  incidents with the store, reported.

She was taken to the Louisville Metro Jail and charged with robbery, shoplifting and trespassing.

People are getting away with this in other places. Don’t doubt me. She just happened to be caught.

    • The__Bobster

She got caught because she was guilty of assault and robbery.

      • ZZyklonB

She got caught because she was stupid enough to try it again. Greedy and amazingly stupid, almost sub-humanly stupid

        • Sherman_McCoy

Which must put her on the left side of the Bantu Bell Curve.

          • The Worlds Scapegoat

There is a left side? I thought that area was for the ones that were no longer breathing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Vito-Danelli/537214166 Vito Danelli

Maybe she was going to plan her menu on them.
No really, she was going to surf the internet for grocery deals. I’m
sure there’s a very legitimate reason..

    • The__Bobster

Yeah, and they get free Obongophones so they can look for jobs.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Vito-Danelli/537214166 Vito Danelli

Great observation, The_Bobster. We must think outside the box on these situations. Maybe she wanted to use the iPad to surf the web for job listings besides food shopping.

Except that tablets are great consumption devices but poor productivity devices.

  • Oil Can Harry

The typical young white members of the NPR/MSNBC audience will read this story, shake their heads and moan “Damn, Walmart is a such a heartless corporation!”

    • Ulick

You are correct — those white fools will blame Walmart. Some may even feel guilty that they have an iPad because of white privilege while this poor, innocent lady can’t afford one because she can’t find work due to institutional racism. There will then be calls for the government to subsidize iPads to the poor. Only the dark poor, though.

If anyone gave me an IPAD. I would give it back. I am completely happy with my laptop.

        • Michael_C_Scott

Laptop? Heck; I’m completely happy with my desktops, tower cases, heavy CRT monitors and all.

          • The Worlds Scapegoat

I liked the olden days when you had to write letters and send them through the mail, or go to the library to get information. There is tons of information available now on the internet, but most of it is crap and worthless.

          • Michael_C_Scott

Snailmail letters are always the most fun to get and the most enjoyable to send, along with enclosed cartoons and articles clipped from newspaper and magazines.

I’m not completely certain that information is necessarily worthless. People interested in history are often fascinated by things that have no practical applications but which provide them the sort of enjoyment others receive watching fictional dramas on television.

          • SintiriNikos

I like the old days too, and for some of the reasons you cited, but let’s be serious here. For the capable web surfer, tons of useful info, and very fast. Heck even these amren stories and articles, and the intelligent comments, make internet worth my while.

Good segue. This moderator just got through moderating for the afternoon at quarter after 5 (Eastern) after having left off this morning at about 9. (Saturday, January 5.) Whatever you all are doing, keep it up, because it was probably the most pleasurable and edifying sitting of AR comments this moderator has read in quite some time, taken as a whole. Not only did I need to delete very few, as a group, I felt like I was undergoing something of a concentrated liberal arts undergraduate college education. Everything from Thucydides to accounting to animal behavior to theology to military history and thanks to a certain someone, a whole lot of “First Nations” (Canada). It’s what Jared Taylor wants AR the web presence to be.

I had your exact attitude…I wouldn’t even look at iPads. Yep, happy with my Blackberry, laptop and desktop but I got an iPad 4 as a very unexpected Christmas gift…I now understand why people like them so much.

Correction: she can’t afford several. Our greed and heartlessness is thereby multiplied.

Who knew that “National Review Online” could be so addictive?

  • Howard W. Campbell

With the EBT cards, it has gotten harder to trade food stamp money for drugs, booze or whatever. Even so, there still has to be a workaround so we don’t deny this poor woman the iPads she is entitled to. (end sarcasm).

  • MekongDelta69

Let’s see… iPads are about $5-600 ea. (depending on the Gb).
So… About $1K-$1.2K in food stamps.

Would Walmart let me in if I put blackface on?!
    /sarc

    • Yorkshireman.

Why three? Perhaps she didn’t know to charge the battery when the first one stops working.

      • [Guest]

In which case the batteries would be deemed racisssssss.

  • So CAL Snowman

Wow, how much “money” did this specimen have on her EBT? Those ipads are around $500 a pop!

  • Tim_in_Indiana

Note also that she was not buying these iPads to improve her “mind.” Since she was attempting to buy them in quantity, she was obviously planning to try to sell them on the black market, probably to buy drugs.

    • MekongDelta69

      What “mind“?!

    • http://twitter.com/LavMenace Crystal Lee Evans

Last night on tv, there was a guy that sold fake IPADS that were just a mirror. One customer followed the salesman to a gas station and ended up shooting the guy.

      • Michael_C_Scott

Good. I guess he learned something about selling fake IPads.

    • http://www.facebook.com/kareem.ofwheat.5 Kareem OfWheat

“black ” market, get it???? that’s funny, but raccccccccciiiiiisttt!!!! LOL

  • Joe

She wouldn’t have a problem in NYC. There, Dominican bodega owners will gladly accept EBT funds and give you cash back (50 cents on the dollar). Ah, the wonders of our welfail state and immigration policies.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Vito-Danelli/537214166 Vito Danelli

Now, Joe, haven’t you received the memo that Immigrants come here to start businesses? Those Dominican bodega owners are Job Creators(r) as per Frank Luntz. And don’t the Dominican Job Creators send money to their homeland, thus stimulating economic activities? It’s Win-Win for them, no? It’s just Lose-Lose for us.

She was banned from all Walmart stores. That’s like capital punishment for a bantu. I’m surprised she hasn’t called the $PLC and have them sue for cruel and unusual…

She should merit extra jail time (on top of the probably 2 days she’ll get – if that) because SHE KNOWS the card is for food. You’d think (White thinking, of course) she would be grateful we are feeding her – ultimately, when the money runs out and cards are empty precisely because of this behavior she’ll be wailing. Sadly for her, it’s hard to maintain a riot when you’re starving and people start defending themselves. Her and her kind are soon to face a very rude surprise.

    • whiteyyyyy

Her type will always survive, they’res always some white fool around to feed these things.

      • http://www.facebook.com/kareem.ofwheat.5 Kareem OfWheat

Just maybe , if we are fortunate, they (darkies) will ” bite the hand that feeds them” thereby eliminating a lot of braindead white do-gooders.

    • Michael_C_Scott

I think she’ll be getting more than just a slap on a wrist. Consider that she had earlier been banned for life from Wal Mart stores for causing trouble there. Also consider that after committing a strong-armed robbery at the first store, she went to a second store and tried the same thing. Her judge isn’t going to be amused, especially if she has other priors the article didn’t mention.

  • Michael_C_Scott

Stealing from Wal Mart; how classy! Almost as classy as being banned from Wal Mart. I gots to be habben dem iPads! Next in the news, Browning will attempt to use her EBT card to pay a bail bondsman.

  • IstvanIN

EBT cards are used for both SNAP (Food Stamp) benefits, which can only be used for food purchases and welfare (cash) assistance. You have to tell the machine which type of benefit you want to use. She probably got confused and picked SNAP in error, poor thing.

  • A Multiracial Ph.D Student

I work full time while going to school. No way I can buy an Ipad. Insane

    • Michael_C_Scott

Look on the bright side. Theft over $500 is a felony in must US jurisdictions and notamisdemeanor. Where Browning is going, she not only won’t be able to afford an IPad, but they won’t be offered at the commissary. I did the impoverished grad student bit as well. It’s not that bad; stick out out and it’ll have been worth it.

I don’t even want an IPad, but I’m currently lusting after one of those little benchtop Asian mill/lathe combination tools. Harbor Freight has them for $299.

Wait until 40+ million EBT cards all flash ERROR and try to imagine the violence.

Don’t laugh. Soon iPads will be an entitlement just like cell phones, cable TV and Internet service.

In England, iPads ARE an entitlement (also from the Daily Mail):

    • Screamin_Ruffed_Grouse

Bon, that day is even closer than you think. My sons’ high school issues Macbooks to all students and nearly all work must be done on them, and turned in electronically. Aside from being a colossal waste of money, the educational purpose they serve for most kids is nihl. I’m not eager to see the day when this is widespread.

      • Bon, From the Land of Babble

This is a part of the new Common Core Curriculum that is being rolled out — national standards that are being implemented — with an iron fist — nation-wide. From what little I’ve seen and heard it is going to be a nightmare.

ALL state/national student testing and most in-class lessons are to be done on tablet computers (with my salary and evaluation tied to this by state law) — each student is to be issued an iPad — which is the specific brand that the superintendent of my district is pushing for. I think part of it is to save money on text books — are the educational overlords stupid? YES. I suspect they’ll hold teachers like me personally responsible for the iPads. We teachers, the ones on the front lines, know what a disaster this will be — iPads used as frisbees, stomped on, sold on the streets, traded for drugs or weapons. IOW, they’ll be used for currency. Kid — make that LOTS of kids –will come to school and say his iPad was stolen. What are we teachers supposed to do with THAT?

There are other nefarious reasons I believe this program is being rolled out but I’ll leave it there for now until I have a bit more information.

When these programs blow up, as they inevitably do, teachers are to blame — never the morons who design these program, the government that implements it, the administrators that enforce it, the students who are set up for failure. It’ll go the way of NCLB at tremendous cost of billions of dollars. This is a particularly expensive program, I think.

Tell the young in your family NOT to go into the teaching profession. It has become increasingly thankless.

        Bon

She should be banned from all the stores.

My wife is a retired social worker who spent many years working mostly with blacks in southern rural counties. She said that she never entered a home that lacked a big screen TV, video games, iPads or iPhones and other gadgets. Plus many of the women sported what she called greasy pineapple style hairdos and elaborate manicures. HOWEVER, the children frequently lacked winter coats, good shoes, school supplies and proper food. They were always trying to scam the system by claiming other people’s children for their “earned” income credits and other freebies. Plus their EBT cards were always accepted by the local Arab owned “convenience” stores for cigarettes, beer, and other prohibited items.

Early in her social work career my wife was an “idealistic progressive.” But witnessing the truth on a day to day basis changed her forever.

    • Michael_C_Scott

I used to see many of the same things in black living rooms back when I was delivering pizza: giant TVs, giant stereos, console video games… and never any books or other reading material.

    • http://www.facebook.com/kareem.ofwheat.5 Kareem OfWheat

Thank god, we need all the converts we can get. Hope she now has the mindset to ” let em all starve’.

  • John J Johnson

Typical behavior for this sort. Lazy, stupid, and a sense of entitlement sort of fits a profile doesn’t it? I guess she’s just trying to perpetuate her own negative stereotype.

isn’t this equivalent to a 5-year old trying to buy stuff with Monopoly money? Remember the guy who tried to pass off $1-million at Walmart: http://www.wptv.com/dpp/news/crime/Copy_of_police-say-shopper-michael-fuller–tried-to-use-a-one-million-dollar-bill-at-a-walmart

It was hard to find a picture of this guy and he had a nuetral sounding name. There was a woman who tried this in ’04 and her picture was right below the headline, (yup, she was white). Meida bias? You decide.

She was arrested for STEALING the i-pads. They refused to let her purchase SEVERAL I-pads with the cards, she became enraged and abusive then stormed out of the Walmart with the i-pads and without paying for them. She then went to ANOTHER Walmart and tried the same thing but was arrested.

I’m on food stamps due to circumstances which I won’t discuss here (and hopefully things turn around for me soon so I can get off it…but at least I’d PAID into the system)…but I have no need for an iAnything. I go to the public library for Internet access so I don’t have any unnecessary expenses and *gasp!* to check out books, and to check out Bob the Builder videos for my young son, who loves to BUILD things. (We don’t have cable either.)

I’m white, so I only have an ancient minivan to drive, no bling on it, alas….

    • Michael_C_Scott

I applied for food stamps and temporarily SSI disability after my stroke, and was told “no” because I own my own house. I said that I thought these programs were partly to prevent folks from losing their homes. I also said that I would never work again to support these programs or their crap-hat administrative salaries for the rest of my life. The Mexican c-word exclaimed “don’t you turn your back on me” when I walked out of her office. I kept walking and enjoyed my silence as Sayaka and I walked to the Saturn.

Poor white people steal as well. however, the ratio of black to white theft is much higher on the black side. Sorry, but that is a fact, and it’s not being prejudiced. It’s called caught on camera and documented. That’s why some minorities have a higher percentage of their race in jail. If you don’t like it, don’t blame society. Stop being a thief, and making your particular group look bad.
