Maryland Transit Administration officials are offering discount cards for area businesses to students who pledge good behavior on city buses, an incentive that transit administrators hope will help curb disrespectful and violent behavior.
The discount card will offer 10 percent to 20 percent off purchases at 12 city establishments, including Dunkin’ Donuts, Cold Stone Creamery, Shoe City, Downtown Locker Room and other places.
MTA administrators registered students for the first time yesterday at the Johns Hopkins Metro Station, where about 100 took the pledge, according to spokeswoman Jawauna Greene.
This summer, MTA drivers will attend various festivals to register students, including the African American Heritage Festival, Artscape and the state fair, as well as Baltimore public schools events.
Transit officials began working on the initiative shortly after a woman was attacked on a city bus in December. A Baltimore juvenile court judge found five Robert Poole Middle School students responsible in the December attack on bus passenger Sarah Kreager and her boyfriend.

They couldn’t promise to hire more black MTA bus drivers because they’re already all black. I’m sure there are other area’s around Baltimore are crying out for justice, however.

And years of payouts, welfare, AA and such to blacks have produced better behavior or even the attempt at such? Whites should boycott the Baltimore MTA.

What if those students who do pledge good behavior and get a pass then misbehave on public transit? Will their pass be revoked?

Back In The Day Dept.
I remember as a child being given the same thing, but by the merchants themselves. They were a reward for knowing that little boys hate to shop with their mothers just about most of all. And it was a bribe between the merchants and the boys whose cooperation was necessary to making a big Fall or Spring sale. They could be redeemed for model airplane kits or saved towards a bike or such. I remember they were called “Boy`s Bucks.” The difference was that they were NOT given to ensure good behavior. That was a given. They were merely an acknowledgement and thank you from the store to kids for losing out on a Saturday to make Mom happy and the merchants more money.

Many years ago, the columnist Jimmy Breslin wrote that Blacks, unlike the Irish or Italians, did not stay bought once they had accepted a bribe. Any dealmaking with Blacks is high-risk. In this case, there is no penalty at all for reneging, so there will be zero benefit to the MTA and its White patrons.
