The Texas mother of a 12-year-old boy who was arrested after almost killing a 59-year-old woman after stabbing her, has apologized to the victim and her family claiming ‘he struggles from mental problems’.

The shocking attack occurred outside of her Houston home on Saturday afternoon and saw the woman stabbed several times in the abdomen.

‘I’m sorry to the family. I’m very sorry that my son’s committed the incident. And I’m praying for your health, for your wellness,’ the boy’s mother said to Click2Houston.

‘He have some mental issues. My son, he struggles from his mental problems,’ she continued, seemingly downplaying his violent outburst. ‘But he’s just a boy. They all are – and we all learn from our mistakes.’

The boy remains in police custody, while his younger seven-year-old brother who was beside him at the time remains free, as he was not deemed to be culpable.

‘I am very remorseful because I wouldn’t want that to happen to nobody. We just gotta keep our prayers up for both my family and their family,’ the mother said on Monday.

According to investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the woman who was stabbed suffers from a mental illness and got into a verbal argument with the two boys around 2pm on Saturday.

The children initially rode off on their bikes, then surveillance camera footage from a neighbors house captured them returning about 12 minutes later.

Video showed the shorter boy wearing blue gloves and a white shirt while the older, taller boy in a red hoodie with black gloves could be seen walking up the woman’s driveway.

The boy in a red hoodie is then seen pulling an object out of his pants and running inside the garage.

The boy is doing okay according to his mother, despite being in custody.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has not yet released a motive in the stabbing.

Seconds later the boys rushed out of the garage, jumped on their bikes and peddled away from the scene.

‘Never did any of us think that it was going to be kids from the neighborhood that came in and attacked her,’ a neighbor who asked not to be identified told KTRK.

‘If they have the ability to go and do that to an older woman who clearly has mental issues after our neighbor down the road tells them, ‘Hey, leave her alone.’ It’s a concern.’

The woman’s brother arrived at her house shortly after the stabbing and was able to call for help.

‘Her brother came and checked by just to check on her; he checks on her daily. At that point, he just came at the right time, opened the door, and saw she was stabbed,’ said Sergio Torres, an investigator with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

She was transported to the hospital via Life Flight and underwent surgery.

Senior Deputy Thomas M. Gilliland told DailyMail.com on Monday that the victim is recovering in a local hospital.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the 12-year-old was charged with aggravated assault on Sunday and is being held by the Harris County Juvenile Department.

The local ABC News affiliate reports how juvenile crime is up in the Houston area.

Juvenile offender homicide rate has increased by 76 percent since 2021 in Harris County and felony assaults have doubled when comparing January 2023 to January 2024.

Three children dubbed the ‘little rascals’ by the FBI were arrested for robbing a Wells Fargo bank in Houston – which is in Harris County

The trio, ages 11, 12 and 16, held up the bank at 10261 North Freeway around 3pm on March 14.

Police said they passed a threatening note to a teller and got away on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The group was believed to have been armed, but they did not present a weapon, reported KTRK.
